  • "Very good service. But a dirty, old lipstick stain on my water glass was not a great beginning, it actually turned us off. After it was swiftly replaced I enjoyed the icy lemonade, dozen assortment of oysters. But my partners fish stew left him still wanting more of a meal. Be aware the portions are Small. Great table bread. Nice outside seating."

  • "We ordered the Terrine of Beet appetizer and the Copia Garden Green salad. Both were just average with bland, unmemorable flavors. I ordered the salmon which came beautifully presented on top of tasty potatoes. The server asked if I wanted it medium rare with the middle slightly raw which is how I like it. It came back about 80% raw and I had to return it. My wife had the Petrale Sole which was excellent. The service was outstanding throughout the meal and the ambiance is above average."

  • "Three dining for lunch all loved their meals. The fried green tomatoes appetizer was terrific. The lobster bisque perfect. The tuna tartare fresh as can be. And the fish and chips were light and very tasty. The presentation of the fried tomatoes and tuna tartar was really beautiful. The butterscotch pudding and apple crisp deserts were outstanding... The new Chef has elevated the cuisine in our humble opinion, although when we had dined just several times before we enjoyed our experience then as well. This recent visit was a nice bump up on the delicious scale!!"

  • "Duck fat braised Halibut on Creamed Spinach, The Terrine of Roasted Beets Salad, the Bread, the Seasonal Sorbet, the Cheese selection was the Good...The Whole Leaf Romaine Caesar Salad was the Bad... Brined Slow Roasted Chicken Breast was Bad and Ugly. The Halibut had to be eaten with the spinach (was not creamed) for the dish to work which was okay, the Beet Salad was the best dinner dish. The Chicken lacked seasoning, had rubbery, pale skin, and they forgot the Caramelized Maitake Mushrooms,but the Artichokes were tasty. This was my second visit, the first time was good, which is why I came back and brought a friend. Might have been a bad day so I will give it one more try. Alex the Bartender was very good and engaging."

  • "Friends came up to Napa to join us and we chose Fish Story because of the glowing recent reviews. We were not disappointed. There was a line outside waiting for a table but our reservation was honored and we were ushered to a window table with a view of the river. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the food, different oysters, etc. Food was outstanding: chilled green garlic soup; salmon five ways; ahi tuna tartar; oysters on the half shell; salmon roulade; shellfish stew; halibut; apple cranberry crisp with soft serve vanilla bean ice cream. Every dish was memorable. We will return soon."

  • "Spent a week in Napa tasting some amazing wines and experiencing Napa. We decided to eat at Fish Story for our final night in town. We had heard some great things about Fish Story from other places. We really enjoyed the fresh Oyster options and liked having more than one variety to taste. The main courses looked and tasted wonderful. We would go back on our next trip out to Napa."

  • "We (party of five) ordered several different dishes and desserts so we were able to taste each other's food. We were not impressed with the food at all. The dishes were just not tasty. They just don't understand food. Most were salty and fatty, desserts had too much sugar in them. Portions were small. On top of that, Fish Story is expensive (especially for the food you get). Pay close attention to your bill please. They overcharged us. And believe it or not, they insisted that we pay at least 20% tip. We will not go to this restaurant again."

  • "Three of the four of us ordered fish entrees, and two of them were extremely undercooked--the salmon and the halibut. About a third of the halibut was not even edible. A chicken entree was also ordered, and it was overcooked and dry. On the plus side, the petrale sole dish was cooked perfectly and tasted very good. Another plus is that bottles of wine were being offered for half price, so we enjoyed a very nice bottle of Copain Pinot Noir. Dessert was delicious--especially the butterscotch pudding!"

  • "We have been eating here almost since it opened, and it just keeps getting better and better. This goes for both food and service. There were so many excellent choices on the menu that is was hard to choose something. We enjoyed Salmon, Ahi Tuna Tartare, Beet Salad, Green Salad, Shrimp appetizer, and the Sturgeon. I was curious to see if with the new manager that the service would improve, and it most definitely has - it used to be slightly above average, and now it is very good. We will be back!"

  • "The happy hour menu looked very tempting, a consideration for another time. The main dining room is in casual-elegant tones and well distributed, with soft jazzy music in the background. There are tables outside as well, but the weather was not right for that. We thought the menu a little limited in choices, but very interesting and with unique flavor combinations. We thoroughly enjoyed our selections, which were, quickly mentioned: the sturgeon, the halibut, the scallop seviche (needed a little citrus) and the rock shrimp tempura. Dessert: flourless chocolate cake (warm and very good), and donut holes, though these were nothing special. Service was attentive, knowledgeable and svelte. Will definitely be going back to Fish Story."

  • "I chose this restaurant because of the positive reviews and it certainly lived up to our expectations. We were in the area for an event and wanted to find a place for a nice meal. From the time we entered the restaurant, everyone was friendly and very helpful. I chose their handmade pasta (fettucini that night) and my partner had salmon. Both dishes were beautifully presented and delicious as well. We truly enjoyed the entire dining experience and will return the next time we are in the area."

  • "Return visit after 2 mediocre meals several years back. Nice interior. Service amiable but slow. Great wine special featuring 50% off list price. Food mixed: Dungeness crab dull-tasting. Beet aspic salad way too cold. Gem sale was good/crisp. Excellent bread. Menu: Fish dishes were all too rich or too complicated for my taste---that's why I ordered cracked Dungeness crab. Conclusion: This is not a seafood grill kind of restaurant where you get excellent, fresh fish prepared simply. But it is pleasant inside and less expensive than many neighboring restaurants. We might go back and try one more time."

  • "Dropped by quite by chance and was greeted by a friendly and helpful Paul, the GM. music was being played in the lounge, beautiful location overlooking the river. I was further enticed to stay by the half priced wine promotion for month of March. Wine selection was a bit on the sparse side but able to meet most tastes. We started with shrimp cocktail which were less than grandios. The beer salad was excellent although my wife thought not. We both had halibut, mine poached and hers pan seared. Both were good. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience with pleasant personnel and decent food. Worth going at least once."

  • "I like seafood, but this was food on a whole new level. Everything about the meal was superb! The only thing that was disappointing was the lack of calamari. When I went onto the website for fish story and looked up the menu, it had calamari on the list but when we arrived we were informed it was no longer on the menu. We did however have a delightful shrimp tempura that made up for the lack of calamari."

  • "This past Saturday my wife and I dined at Fish Story and had an excellent meal. I had the Halibut and she had the Sole and we were both happy with our dishes. We both had the Beet salad and thought it was very good. The weather was beautiful and eating outside overlooking the Napa river elevated the overall experience. Our servers were professional and we never felt rushed. We will go back again."

Disappointed in the wine list for a Napa restaurant as there were very little choice of wines by the glass. Had the Halibut fish dish and quite frankly it was very bland.   • "I had not been to Fish Story since the new chef took over. The food is still delicious. My dining companion who is vegetarian was very pleased with her dishes. I splurged on the lobster pot de feu and was glad I did. And definitely say yes to the bread and butter! The restaurant group is very simpatico with the community, offering teacher discounts in May, a great happy hour, and this month, half-price bottles of wine. I like sitting out back overlooking the river and passers-by. Avoid the narrow room with the stone wall and glass windows if noise bothers you."

  • "We've been going a couple of times a year since opening and it was the first time seating outside facing river. It was very comfortable. We dined early but the tables around us were full by 6:30 and the space became even better. The service was outstanding...attentive and friendly. Both back waiter and busser were great as well. March is 1/2-off wine month and we heard all around that the guests were there because of the wine deal. First time in house for new chef and there was a distinct change for the better. Pot au feu was perfect and the fresh, 1st of the season halibut on spinach was a winner. We'll be back before too long."

  • "It was my first visit to this restaurant. I went there for lunch with my family. Had a good selection of California wines & cocktails. The crab cake appertizer was phenomenal ! The fish story has a great selection of fresh fish items. One member of our family has a milk allergy, the chef went above & beyond preparing the menu selections totally milk free. Everyone in our party really enjoy their lunch entree. The environment was relax and friendly. I have already recommended this restaurant to family members who live in the area. Would definately return when visiting this area."

  • "My husband and I had dinner with friends at Fish Story. We had been there for lunch a few weeks ago and had the file of sole- it was wonderful so we had it again and it was wonderful as well. I can't say the same thing for the fried calamari. We saw a woman having it at the bar and it looked wonderful. Our order arrived overcooked and it looked like we got the bottom of the fryer with a lot of overcooked fried batter. I didn't eat any of it and would have sent it back if it had been up to me. Someone should have stopped that dish from being served it was so obviously overcooked. We have just started coming back to this restaurant since they have a new chef. Overall we like Fish Story."

  • "After a great review, we decided to try again after 2 years. Started out great and went down hill. Chef tasting menu should rock. This one sunk to the bottom of the river. Sorry, no wow here. Maybe we were hoping for more this night. Food quality was good, but just missed the beat on flavor across the board. Too many great places to go in the Napa Valley."

  • "This was our second visit to the Fish Story. The first was on Valentines Day. Each time we had ordered the Chef's menu selection and each time we were not disappointed. (In our opinion its the best way to go as you get to try a plethora of different foods from appetizers, to cheeses, to main dishes, to desserts. The variety of food, the presentation, the friendly service, romantic ambiance, all were fantastic. The general manager, Paul, came over to speak with us, then the location manager followed up with us afterwards. Its obvious this restaurant strives for each visitors dining experience to be a pleasurable one."
