Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent service. Awesome outdoor patio dining. Afternoon tea items were so so."

  • "We chose the Fish House to celebrate our 42nd Anniversary. We were there once before and again it did not disappoint. We were greeted with a lovely note congratulating us on our Anniversary. The food was amazing. We started with the crab cakes, I wouldn't recommend them, but they weren't too bad. My husband had the smoked black cod and I, the salmon with prawns and scallops. Both meals were cooked to perfection. The lemon meringue dessert was delicious. A lovely presentation with Happy Anniversary written in the serving dish. What a nice touch. Our waiter was amazing. A beautiful setting and we absolutely loved the soft jazz playing in the background. We will definitely be back."

  • "Dinner started out inside a noisey room complete with screaming children. Not much ambiance here but we were relocated to an outside table where matters improved. Table service was OK and we were compensated each time there was a stumble. The delay in dinner service resulted in a small taste of ceviche and a larger than normal portion of fish. A forgotten second glass of wine, upon reminding the server, was made up for with a large glass (we only ordered and paid for a small one). The Caeser salad was delicious but a bit small. Both dinner mains were well presented and enjoyed. Good job the weather allowed us to sit outside and it turned out to be a very good dining experience."

  • "We have dined here several times and never been disappointed. Food, service, and ambience are always a 5 star. Their chef is marvelous and they always have a special treat to celebrate your special moments. Service is top notch and dining in Stanley Park as a background makes it a #10 experience."

  • "I have been to the fish house MANY times and when Karen Barnaby left I really missed her menus. Four of went on Sat night and had an excellent meal - the crab cakes and oyster appetizers were very good - we had a variety of seafood dishes and everyone was very pleased with their meals. Our server, Chris, was a really nice guy and helpful and knowledgeable with both wine and food choices and not at all intrusive. I asked for a specific table when reserving through Open Table and we got it!!!! I would recommend the Fish House - we live in Kits and took the Granville Island ferry from the Maritime Museum and walked along the seawall - it was a really memorable evening!"

  • "We dined at the Fish House for my husband's birthday. When we arrived, each place setting had a card with a greeting recognizing his special day. The service was excellent and the food delicious. We always eat here when visiting Vancouver. Can't wait to be back!!"

  • "I bring my wife to the fish house every year specifically on our anniversary, amongst other various yearly times. The food is always outstanding, the staff is vibrant, fun, outgoing and friendly, and the atmosphere just right. Excellent chefs, menus and service..."

  • "We had an appy hour meal which was excellent. The waiter recommended the poutine. We wouldn't have ordered it otherwise. Glad we did because it was excellent. The Kalamari were divine. The only thing we didn't enjoy we're the oysters. The coating was touch as leather! Not the freshest oysters either. Need to change that coating recipe."

  • "Our drinks and meal were nice but not spectacular. My prawns were overcooked. Her steak was overcooked."

  • "I have been a constant diner at The Fish House Restaurant for many years. The ambience, a park setting, is one of the best in town. This passed Friday, my friends and I booked a luncheon reservation to celebrate a friend's birthday. Our servers were helpful and congenial. We wanted an outside table, but the only one available did not have an umbrella.... the accommodating server brought one. The menu, is disappointing as it no longer contains some of the choices as when Karen Barnaby was manager/chef. I ordered a dual fish plate consisting of smoked cod and trout, it tasted good and was well prepared. I would have liked a little more salad and more fennel in the salad. The dessert, a chocolate concoction was tasty."

  • "As we were celebrating our 47th anniversary, we wanted a special seafood restaurant in the West End. This is the place!. From the time we walked in the door until we left we felt special , and no, they didn't know it was a special occasion. The service was outstanding from our server Jane, and the food was delicious. We had the Cajun oysters, the Cannery Cod and the Trio of fish. All were excellent We ended the meal with the Earl Grey creme brûlée. If you want a delicious and special meal, definitely dine at the Fish House."

  • "I ordered the Nisoise salad (sp?) and it was very paltry. It was tasty, but not enough to satisfy. It could have included more vegs, which are cheap for the restaurant, which makes me wonder why there were no greens besides the beans..... I added a skewer of scallops which was very tasty, but again, paltry for the money."

  • "I love the food, the location and experience. The wife and I have been there many of times, and we love going back for a romantic diner for two. We both love sea food and they have best we eaten. I would recommend them to any who want a romantic diner or wants to impress a date."

  • "A great place for tourists and locals alike. Wonderful setting at the edge of Stanley Park, by the tennis courts and the egales and herons nesting places . Setting: tables are set sufficiently apart for privacy, enough formality to take the whole family for a special occasion. Great for for all meals. Afternoon tea should be considered. Food: something for everyone without being a boring menu. Lives up to its Fish House name. Service is friendly."

  • "Spent the evening at the Fish House with an out-of-town customer to celebrate his retirement. Split a crab cake appetizer -- ample portion, tasty, bit heavy for my liking, but server didn't know what was in it and had to ask about the scallion drizzle. Dinner server Jake was knowledgeable and friendly. Kitchen accommodated a request to split two full plates 1/2-1/2. Halibut and salmon were both perfectly prepared according to our guest. My sable fish was excellent. My blueberry-and-thyme sorbet was interesting and flavourful. Nice spot for a pleasant quiet evening."

  • "Beautiful setting noted, quiet and warm. Wine list was excellent but expensive (not too) and the fish choice was small but selective, not overwhelming. The Sable fish was not how I remembered it from previous years with the quality slipping somewhat but certainly good. I was seated next to a potted palm which was intent on poking me in the head, but was quietly moved away. The oyster selection was short as most of the little beasties had been served to a previous large party, leaving the restaurant short of the tasty small ones and the remaining ones were a little "off". Generally, on this occasion, I would say it was just "good"."

  • "The appetizers were the only highlight. The calamari and oysters were delicious. Other than that, all of our entrees (artic char, halibut, seafood risotto and short ribs) were mediocre. Even our son, who is a clam chowder lover, was unimpressed. We had a better meal the night prior at a chain restaurant for half the price. Would not go back."

  • "We shared the surf and turf and it was just amazing. Perfect amount of steak, crab, scallops, etc....we almost licked our plates...it was that delicious."

  • "It was my first time there with my family. The food and service were good. For sure will go again."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "The only real draw for the Fish House is it's location in Stanley Park. The interior still has good bones but overall it is run down and without much character remaining - it is better seen at night. The food served at our last brunch visit looked and tasted as though it had been sitting under heat lamps. The lack of basic garnish left the bland food completely beige. Our server was charming and kind and made a big difference to an otherwise disappointing experience. I really want to continue to visit and enjoy the Fish House but it will be a long time before I give it another try."

  • "We have gone to the fish house many times before; however, not since having our son. I had no idea how family friendly it was and how sweet the staff was with him. They have high chairs, crayons, a kids menu and kid friendly drink options. We really enjoyed spending father's day brunch here and will go back again with the family soon!"

  • "Aside from the ambience, the food and the service was disappointing. We ordered the seafood hash. Sounded great on the menu. 2 of the mussels were bad. There were 5 tiny frozen shrimps; even 2 prawns would had sufficed and elevated the dish. The "salmon" were salmon bits, which again is not what you would expect from a fine dining dish. No bowl was offered for the empty mussel and clam shells. Overall, we would not recommend if you want to impress your guests."

  • "We had been looking forward to dining again at the Fish House since our last visit to Vancouver 5 years ago. Our first choice for our first night in the city. We had to ask for water and the main course (speciality of the house) was very slow to arrive. Part of it had gone cold. With the help of the waiter we overcame that problem and took his recommendation for the best dessert. The poor man had to return as the messenger of bad news yet again - the dessert was no longer available. It is a great place and the waiter who served us handled the problems with efficiency and charm - but we did not expect to have to return a dish to have it reheated and re-plated. No compensation offered - not even a free glass of wine for the inconvenience."

  • "Having booked the table from the UK way back in April, we were surprised to have been shoved on probably the worst table in the restaurant and clients, who were walk-ins were seated at much better locations. The Calamari starter was, frankly, overcooked rubbish. We followed that with one "simply grilled" and one "butter poached" halibut. The fish was pretty average in terms of cooking skills and taste. I don't know where the wild mushrooms were in the Polenta, but it was pretty dry and tasteless. Staff were reasonably attentive and courteous, although the front desk girl said "like your dress" to just about every customer when we were there, not exactly sincere!"

  • "The seafood platter for two was amazing. Our waiter was very attentive, and the dessert strawberry crunch ice cream was devious. Loved the cocktail list too. I chose a refreshing Fresca Pineapple concoction. Perfect setting and beautiful view of the park."

  • "We have a family dinner on the occassion of graduation of one of our sons from UBC. We have chosen the restaurant based on Tripadviser's restaurant ranking list. The coner seats were very nice and the sea food platter, clam chowder and a desert were excellent. The staff who attended our table was excellent too. He recommended a nice affordable wine."
