The staff is very pleasant, the restaurant overlooks Monterey Bay, and finding something delicious on the menu takes no effort at all. There is also a kids menu for those picky eaters out there. We were met with a friendly smile and shown to our table over the water, with views up and down the bay.
The Rubitini cocktail, vodka and pink grapefruit juice, was lovely, and we ordered the Californian Pinot Grigio to follow.
The specials on the menu were explained and my wife chose Mahi, and I went for the Crab, Prawns and Scallops Rissotto.
The portions were good but not over large, and the flavours were fantastic.
So, if you want a great over the sea dining experience, watching the odd seal and sea otter, this is the place.
5 star from start to finish.
And of course we went back a few nights later and got the best table to watch the sealife, and the sunset.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThin Prime Rib CutsMy wife and I had the locals special Prime Rib dinner. Yes, it was good, BUT the cut was incredibly thin -- about 1/4". Now, the last time we had this same dinner the cut was about twice as thick. Fortunately, you can find some really good dining rooms worth their prices. The Fish Hopper is definitely one of the best. Anything you order will be delicately spiced, with very balanced flavors, and the rest of the menu alone will entice you back for multiple visits. We've been there three times now, and the mouthwatering swordfish, grilled salmon or simple fish and chips are all enough to make you drool.
Quiet enough for a romantic dinner (and we've seen a few obvious first-date couples). Great wine list and mixed drinks too. We were seated right away in a comfortable both overlooking a beautiful view of the ocean. The staff was wonderful, we had the best waitress. She was on point and very tentative for all of our needs. We all had a variety of food from a gourmet salad, to prime rib and prawns to salmon and coconut shrimp. We all shared and it was all to die for. Te dessert tray was decadent and the adult drinks were just a perfect ending to a perfect experience. Service was fantastic, food was awesome, and you can not beat the view of Monterey Bay. My wife is gluten and dairy free, which makes it challenging to find gourmet level food. They were extremely accommodating and really made our anniversary dinner memorable. We frequent Monterey throughout the year and now we have our new favorite restaurant too. The food is superb, but I would expect nothing less from the Shake family restaurants. My lobster pasta was perfectly cooked al dente with an amazing sauce. We were pleasantly surprised!! The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and amazing view! We were lucky to see a pod of dolphins escorting the whale watching boat out to sea. Our waitress told us that last week a group of Orca (Killer) whales were in the bay. Amazing view. The food was excellent! Started with calamari and the grilled artichoke appetizer. Calamari was tender & artichoke was a bit underdone, but tasted wonderful, and it was free - courtesy of coupon from the hotel we stayed at. I had the swordfish and my husband the tomahawk. He said it was the best steak he's ever had, cooked and seasoned perfectly. They surprised me by bringing a cinnamon brownie topped with ice cream with a lit candle for dessert, and my waiter sang happy birthday to me.
