Food and service wasn't the greatest. Slow night. Their award winning chowder was just average. The fish dishes ordered were very good, but stay away from the beef. Have been to their Monterrey location where the food was a lot better but still suffered from poor service.

We selected the Fish Hopper for our 40th wedding anniversary and were not disappointed! Our waitress, Andrea, made some great recommendations. The entrees were some of the best we have ever had. The manager, Joel Genavia, dropped by several times and made us feel very welcome. The desserts were outstanding! We are happy to highly recommend this restaurant.

We had reservations and were seated right away. The staff was friendly, drinks and appetizers arrived quickly, and dinner followed in short order. My steak had a wonderful flavor and I could cut it with a butter knife, but it was slightly over cooked, and no veggies were included. I would definitely go back.

Three of us dined at the Fish Hopper for dinner. The location was perfect for us and we all enjoyed our meals. Delicious food! Our service was not that great. The server forgot that I ordered the garlic mashed potatoes as my entree came with the rice. When asked about it, he immediately realized the mistake and brought out the potatoes immediately. We had asked for separate checks (which the server said was not a problem), however the bill came combined and we had to ask our server to split it accordingly. He also spoke to us many times in a foreign language. I believe it was Japanese. It was a strange and awkward experience as we weren't sure what he was saying or why he was doing it. It seemed out of place.

We loved our lunch here. We had a table by the window- what a view!! I had the ahi tuna salad- wonderful with the Asian dressing. My husband had the Cobb salad and loved it too. We will be back. Our server was a delight!

This restaurant is in the hart of town . The view is amazing. The service is excellent . Everyone is friendly and smiling.I prefer lunch to dinner. The portions are big and I always take 1/2 home. What I enjoy is that the managers come around to every table and ask how you are. The risotto was the best I have had in years. The seafood is the way to go.

I had the Monchongo with asparagus and mashed sweet potatoes; great presentation; fish cooked perfectly; mashed potatoes were not ordinary but almost taro-like and asparagus still had their crunch and steamed just right. All service personnel were attentive.

The ambiance is quite nice here with open air, but covered dining one can watch the waves crash on the beach. The food was tasty, well presented, and not overcooked (important when it comes to seafood). However, everything from drinks, appetizers, pork, seafood and desserts seemed about 30% more expensive than it ought to have been. A beach tax I guess.

Enjoyed a great meal while in Kona. Sat down immediately at table in front facing the water. My wife and I both had seafood which was well prepared and fresh. Waitress had other tables but was attentive. Management stopped by twice actually discussing the menu which I found very helpful. Would definitely go back if in the area

This is my second to the restaurant. the first for diner this time for lunch. Lunch was much better . The gumbo was quite good maybe the best I have had.The shrimp bruchetta was also good. The meat needs spice and the rice tasted like a salt ball. The view can not be beat . It is a open air restaurant so it is a bit hot. The service is fast and friendly.

We were looking for a seafood restaurant in Kona and decide to search Yelp. The food was reviewed a good and that it had a great view. The reviews weren't wrong. I had a seafood pasta that was excellent and my husband had the Ono fish and chips that were also delicious. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for good seafood in Kona.

The view is great, overlooking the water and sunset and the waiter was very nice. The food was really disappointing. The sand dabs were mushy and soggy (the waiter highly recommended them), and it was difficult to tell what the veggies were other than the garlic potatoes. I ordered the big Bloody Mary with soggy tasteless shrimp--I didn't even eat them all and I love shrimp. We would not go there again.

Great ambience even tho you are sitting next to the road. The harbor and ocean views are super nice. Felt like we were VERY rushed. Know we were among the last diners arriving at 8pm but would have liked to relax and be more leisurely. Felt like they wanted us to hurry so the staff could go home even tho the sign said they were open til 11pm. We were in/out in 45 minutes. Food was very large portions with lots of vegetables. Made reservations by OpenTable and all went VERY well. Sometimes the requests either aren't communicated or not read by the restaurant. This time all was perfect. Took 4 Mom's to lunch and were offered the Mothers Day specials. VERY EXPENSIVE and the gals chose to order from menu. It was 2PM and having started the specials at 11AM, the "special cocktail" was not available due to "ran out of pink lemonade"!!! All 4 having ordered it were disappointed and so early in the day. The lunch menu is mostly sandwiches which didn't suit so we were left with some limited lunch entree selections. Regardless, the gathering and reason for the lunch was good, the food was good and the service, as always was very good.

We stopped here for lunch on our last day on the island before heading to the airport. It's across the street from the ocean, and has a fairly nice view (if you don't count the cars driving by). Don't bother ordering a fruity cocktail - they screwed up three different ones. We sampled all kinds of things on the menu - the seafood is a must! Coconut shrimp is FABULOUS!

We love The Fish Hopper on Monterey, CA, so we were happy to eat at the one here in Kona. I got salad and clam chowder. Their clam chowder is my favorite, and it did not disappoint.
