Diner Reviews
  • "Being surrounded by many Charleston culinary staples, I was unexpectedly pleased. Food was fantastic, and the craft cocktails were well made. Ultimately not the classic Charleston experience, if you're looking for that from out of town. That said, definitely one of the better meals I've had in downtown Charleston. "

  • "Disappointed. Just average taste. No average price. "

  • " The first course appetizer was excellent. Fried calamari. The fried bread that came out was heavy and unappetizing, the sauce served with it was cloyingly sweet. What happened to the great bread basket you used to serve? The scallops were burned on one side and completely undercooked on the other. The weird pancake discs that the scallops were perched upon were burned on the outside and had raw batter in the middle. The balsamic sauce was too sweet! Some people, myself included, would rather grin and bare it rather than make a scene about a bad entree. It was not worth ruining my visit over a ruined plate of food. I won't be back. "

  • "Though stuffed from a food tour that afternoon, we enjoyed the wonderfully-executed, not overly complex dishes at Fish. Our fish and scallops were cooked perfectly and the accompaniments were fun and flavorful enough to elevate the dishes but not overpower the seafood stars of the dishes. Desserts were serious desserts, not your unimaginative, throw-away creme brulee, cheesecake, and flourless chocolate torte. The choose-four dim sum dessert was fun and all very well-executed. If you like excellently-prepared seafood with some Asian flair and great desserts you'll like Fish."

  • "A/C not working, so room was uncomfortably hot & stuffy. Issue was eventually resolved. Waitress pounced on us immediately, then pretty much disappeared! Lost our drink order & had to re-take it. Must have been 20 minutes before we got a drink, let alone bread, or our menu questions answered. So not a good start. Cuisine is a great concept, fusing Asian & French with mostly seafood & some vegan. Interesting combinations & choices & flavors, but SMALL portions. The Dim Sum concept for appetizers & desserts is interesting, but the tastes are microscopic. Would be better if they were 2-bites, because sharing appetizers & desserts is usually lots of fun. This place has lots of potential, but not there yet."

  • "Went to Fish with a group after the CRBR. My friends & I like to eat and the small/medium plates appealed to us as we like to share & try each others' food. Fish fit the bill! We were happy to arrive and find a small outdoor patio and were seated there on request. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Service was very good- our server was very knowledgable and attentive, despite having a large party inside. We really, really enjoyed our drinks! The house-made ginger beer was a fantastic addition to the Dark & Stormy, and every other drink was executed well. Great experience at a good price point."

  • "Choose 4 dim sum for both appetizers and desserts allowed us to taste everything we wanted to. The chocolate pate is not to be missed. Specials were very tasty too."

  • "Fish is a treat to the eyes, ears, and mouth. Visually the restaurant is loud, modern, and fresh. However, as you move throughout the various rooms and bar you notice it is surprisingly quiet and easy to have a conversation. The bar offers a myriad of fine scotches and spirits, beers, and a superb wine list. The menu offers the namesake in many different preparations and portion sizes. All of these elements lead to being able to have a different experience multiple times over within the confines of Fish. The service is top notch to go along with the rest of the experience. There are few places that achieve success without sacrificing some aspect of the overall dining experience... which makes Fish as fresh a concept as the namesake served."

  • "not what I expected veggies were dry, fish was good, appetizer was just ok. cosmo was on the tart side"

  • "Had an excellent dinner - lots of fish and seafood from which to choose. The surprise was the excellent short ribs, Texas-style, for non-fish eaters. More like a good beef filet!"

  • "Had not eaten here for several years. It has changed but really just upgraded. Food very good, especially the calamari. Seared scallops were excellent. Enjoy."

  • "The menu is great, food when it arrived fantastically flavorful, but we waited 45 minutes for appetizers and had to ask for bread---and apps were salads and soup! Fortunately, food was so good and company stimulating so we all agreed to give FISH a second chance."

  • "We loved all the sharable items on the menu and we tried the frommage and charcuterie, the mussels, the clams, and for dessert, dim sum (pot de crème, lemon mascarpone mousse, candy bar, chocolate cabernet pate). All delicious and served by a charming young woman who looked up questions we had and returned with answers."

  • "Restaurant was an wonderful escape from a frenetic Saturday night on King Street. Service was extremely attentive without being overbearing and stifling. My wife and I had an appetizer and entree each. All four dishes were highlighted by the quality and freshness of the seafood. My triggerfish on this seasonal menu was exceptional. And, for a busy Saturday night, we were never rushed. And save room for dessert...especially the dessert dim sum. You get to choose four out of eight miniature desserts!"

  • "Had a date night with the wife on upper King-a really happening area. Made the reservation only about 45 min before the time while bar-hopping. Arrived and they were ready and immediately seated us. Wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was great (had the flounder). A little loud and we were near the kitchen entrance, that's the only reason for 4/5 stars. But, hey, we made a late reservation and probably got the luck of the draw on the table. Nice and I would recommend it. Also reasonably priced."

  • "Great food, eclectic and fun twist on food. Totally enjoyed the dim sum....which is a great chance to try bite size pieces of a variety of interesting, delicious dishes. Service was great. Vibrant atmosphere. Fun drink mixes. Skip Magnolias and try some local fair that is fun and delicious."

  • "We came to Fish last night (3/18/14) as a table of three. First impression was an amazing aroma as we entered, and we were promptly seated. The restaurant has a French/Asian fusion theme and it is evident and executed very nicely. Our starters and entrées were beautifully executed and delicious. We were very impressed and pleased with choosing this restaurant. More so, we really appreciated the attention to sustainable seafood. Service was top notch, and the pricing is very reasonable! A hit on all levels! Lastly, we got the dim sum desert, which I think is brilliant. This way you can choose 4 different tastes, which was easily split among three diners. We loved it, and will continue to love coming here regularly."

  • "Our dinner reservation was at 5:30, we happened to arrive 15 min early. we sat at the bar and the gracious Bartender made us feel welcome right away. He informed us our table was being prepared and we would soon be seated. we enjoyed a few drinks while the bartender told us of special events happening in Charleston on St Patrick's Day. He was a superb bartender! All the wait staff was impeccable! When the food arrived it was like a picture on a plate. The Salmon was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. Everything was so tasteful! Highly recommend for a romantic dinner."

  • "Loved the physical space itself. Interesting decor, fflooe, walls and ceilings. The food, described in detail by the waiter was prepared and presented in a visually pleasing manner. The chili calamari was out of this world as were the bacon fries with scrichachi ketchup. Loved the food and will go definitely go back. P.s. The Winter Bliss drink, clementine vodka, hibiscuses flower syrup, eldeflower syrup, sparkling Spanish cava! Was to die for!"

  • "Menu has many choices: dim sum, medium plates and large plates. Excellent fish, but with many very good non-fish options."

  • "The whole experience was outstanding. We had the 'naked fish' which was so flavorful and expertly prepared. The sides were creative and yummy. The location and setting are wonderful...right in the heart of the busy food scene, in an old building restored but with a modern vibe. Definitely would recommend to anyone!"

  • "We were seated at a table right under the speakers upstairs. It was too loud and when we asked the server if it could be turned down she said they had been having issues with the speakers all week and they would be fixed soon. They could not be turned down b/c a master control controlled all the speakers in the restaurant. She was able to move us to a different section and the noise level was better. My issue was not with the server-she did everything she could to make it better and did make it better in the end. My issue was with management that knew this was an issue and had not yet done anything about it. We were not the first to complain. To unhook a speaker wire is an easy fix."

  • "Final night of our Charleston trip was capped of with some of the most creative and best tasting food ever! The service was impeccable. Their twist on She Crab soup was amazing utilizing curry! The Dim Sum concept for apps and dessert was awesome… Everything from the decor all the way down to the classic soul soundtrack shows the attention to detail these folks have! If this establishment was near my home I would be there daily! I can't wait for my next trip out there! If you have not gone to this restaurant yet you really are missing out!"

  • "Fish on King Street promises and delivers French-Asian fusion inspired meals. The food was excellent, and waitress Sarah was not only incredibly attentive, but also very knowledgeable about the menu and preparation of items. Clearly the staff is well trained. the mussels were prepared in a broth clearly finished with a touch of real butter and served with a Pain Francais that enabled the sopping up of liquids. The main course was "naked fish", which features the catch of the day (tilefish that day) seared with only salt and pepper to highlight the natural flavor of the fish, served with side dishes of an oyster mushroom tartelet and a canellini-based casserole, all as reasonable portions. Great find - I'll be back next time I'm in town"

  • "We took out of town friends and they loved Fish. They were intrigued by the dim sum appetizer and dessert choices - we had to try one of each! We all chose different seafood entree's and argued about whose was best! And although the noise level was a bit loud on this visit, it did not dim our overall enjoyment."

  • "Enjoyed our small plates. The oyster were great! Had the burger - done very well. The fish special was Swordfish which was prepared perfectly. Will go back again."

  • "Excellent cocktails. The Dim Sum for starters was fun interesting and delicious. Our entree's were fresh and the side dishes exceptionally interesting. By interesting I mean creative, tasty and good companions with our Golden Tile fish entrees. 1/2 price bottle of wine was a nice perk for monday night."

  • "Enjoyed our dinner but not memorable enough to plan a repeat visit. The restaurant is noisy and lacks any distinctive charm. I'm sure we'll go back but we still have too many restaurants to visit the first time. I should note that the staff was very friendly and attentive"

  • "We made reservations for Hank's for Sunday night dinner but decided to check out Fish instead. Best decision ever! We enjoyed a four course meal that every foodie in our group swooned over! With a personal visit to our table by Chef Craig we couldn't have had a better experience! This restaurant will be recommended to everyone we know visiting Charleston and we can't wait to go back!"

  • "The food was to die for. I recommend doing the dim sum as an appetizer to be able to try many different things, my favorite was the goat cheese panini with honey. The naked tilefish was so delicious, fresh and flavorful despite being "naked." I got it with the coconut rice and it went very well. We also did the dessert dim sum, again, to be able to try many different things. ALL the food was perfection. We will be going back again!"

  • "After a delicious cocktail (winter bliss) that we vowed to serve at our next party, we had a fantastic meal highlighted by the dim sum appetizers. The snapper special was wonderful. The service was amazingly fast as well. That would recommend it in my eyes for business gatherings."

  • "I took my best friend out for Valentine's day to Fish on 2/15/14, I know, after the actual day but everything else was booked a week out from the actual day. I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I enjoyed the food, the atmosphere was very nice and it seems to be family friendly as I saw some people come with their children (older (12-17)... The food was delicious!!! We enjoyed cocktails until the dining section opened due to arriving a little earlier than our reservation time. Everyone was super friendly. I will definitely patron this place again, very soon! Keep up the great work!"
