Diner Reviews
  • "I really enjoyed this place! The food and service were impecable. The fish dish I had was one of the best redfish dishes ever! This is a must try!"

  • "We have now dined at Fish, Hanks, Hymans and Peninsula Grill and Fish was not comparable to Peninsula Grill or Hanks but MUCH better than Hymans. Had the Halibut special and it was rather bland"

  • "Consistent & dependable w correct elements of 'new' each visit. Offerings are innovative and of high quality from small plates through desserts. The French - Asian fusion works and is well executed. Price point coapts w the environment. Go ... You will not be disappointed."

  • "My daughter and I were treated to a fabulous and inventive meal at Fish. The dim sum allowed us to sample several interesting flavors - goat cheese panini, duck confit, escargot rangoon and croque madame... YUMMY! I had the special - wreck fish - due to recommendation by the waitress. Did not disappoint! My daughter had the scallops which were accompanied with grilled watermelon. Delicious! We both loved the inventive ingredients. Will definitely have my husband join me next time - Sunday, Monday and Wednesday are 1/2 price wine nights!!!"

  • "Start with a special cocktail -- this bartender knows what (s)he's doing. Apps and entrees are very good, particularly the farm-fresh herbal salad. Desserts are great, especially the stunning doughnuts. Very good quality for the price, too. We'll be back next time we're in Charleston for sure!"

  • "We dined on the 4th, with friends from out of town, the food is exquisite. Seafood options with accoutrements are delectable! I would absolutely recommend! I can't wait to go back for dim sum happy hour!"

  • "The food was really good. We all had fish - the grouper, wreck fish special and mahi mahi dishes were superb. The farm salad with goat cheese spring roll very nice. There were many things on the menu that I wanted to try. They have a dim sum app list and small plates so you could make it that kind of meal as well. We didnt have dessert bc we were so full. The service was perfect. The only thing I can complain about would be the noise level - it was pretty loud."

  • "Up to par with what I'm used to in DC and NYC. If you are visiting Charleston and want fresh Fish come here top to bottom excellent."

  • "Celebrating birthday, waited started us with complimentary champagne, very nice. Then things went down hill from there. Food came before having a chance to order a glass of wine, then brought wrong wine. It appeared he knew the people at the table next to us and gave them more attention.. The food was great, the service was poor. Had much better service at the other restaurants we visited that weekend."

  • "We took a chance and had dinner at Fish for our last night in Charleston and were we sure happy we did! The menu isn't huge but is so varied that we had a hard time deciding, so our waitress made some great suggestions. We didn't like the first wine we ordered (by the bottle) and they graciously recommended another and brought it with no grumbling (and it was fab). The decor and atmosphere were top notch. The service was impeccable and the entire staff seemed dedicated to making sure we had a great time. Fish is a very special place that I would highly recommend for someone looking for a fancy night out in Charleston."

  • "Everything was great! The prices are very reasonable for such a nice restaurant. The service was great but if you just want a glass of wine instead of the bottle you must specify. Will definitely be going back!"

  • "Fish was an unexpected find...our dinners (scallops, fish of the day and the short ribs and various salads) were delicious and the waitress was friendly and informative."

  • "We didn't enjoy it as much as we would have liked. I think we were just unlucky though and fell victims of a distracted chef who let our fish cook too long. Everything was good except for the fish. Unfortunate."

  • "I had heard about this restaurant when I was on a plane to DC. The person sitting next to me had been at the Charleston Wine & Food Festival and told me this was the best restaurant they went to. Finally I was able to dine there this week and it did not disappoint. One of the best! I had the tuna tartare and then the flounder. My friend had the special with Triggerfish. Both entrees were excellent. Pricing was reasonable and we were there during half price bottle of wine night. All and all a wonderful dining experience...can't wait to return."

  • "We needed a relatively quiet spot for a get acquainted dinner with my boss and this turned into a great find. It was quiet without being uninteresting, nice menu, excellent service, reasonable wine list and reasonably priced. I'm of the age I like to hear the conversation around the table and this was not a problem at Fish. We'll be back. even though there was plenty of tables filled around us."

  • "Wife and I selected Fish for a pre-concert dinner. Last here several years ago, but last time wasn't overly impressed, hence the lengthy interval between visits. This, though, was an all-around pleasure. A couple of quiet and lazy glasses of wine at the bar, followed by a nice table in a beautiful room, then an absolutely superb dinner. My highlight was the crab curry soup, wife's was the bouillabaisse. Fish is back high on our list for future evenings in downtown Charleston."

  • "Wonderful!! Made reservation for 6 online for my son's 27th birthday. We ordered drinks, appetizers, soup, entrees and every dessert on the menu and the price was good considering how much we ordered. Only one thing was bad. One of the appetizers was burnt but the server was quick to comp it with a dessert when we didn't care for a new appetizer. Everything else was absolutely fantastic. I will definitely be back."

  • "Our fish was horrible, not what we were expecting! The service was average. What happened/ It is in a convenient location on king St., but we all received poor fish!"

  • "The food was hot and/or fresh. Our server was professional and knew the menu well. The food items were unique in selection and taste."

  • "I have eaten at Fish several times and always have a perfect experience. I always recommend it to visitors to Charleston as a reasonably-priced, seasonally fresh seafood restaurant that never disappoints and Saturday's meal was no exception. Everything was wonderful and I will continue to recommend."

  • "Was in town for the week visiting my parents who retired to C-town. Wanted a nice and quiet dinner with my wife, away from our 3yo jihadist princess. With free grandparent babysitting, we crowdsourced recommendations and Fish fit the bill. Why certainly not a "formal fine dining" kind of thing, it is very classy and comfortable. Wonderful departure from the current trends in white linen dining, the french/asian fusion fit the bill perfectly. The dim sum app was great for sharing, and the seafood was a hit all around. The swordfish was a beautiful piece of fish, and my wife will order cioppino/bouillabaisse if it on the menu. A great preparation. Friendly professional service and a good bar as well, this was an excellent choice."

  • "With so many "southern cuisine" places in Charleston, it's nice to find something like Fish offers -- Asian fusion, French and seafood. The dim sum appetizer was really tasty, the wine list French and California, service competent but not high end. Overall the food was very good. My fish was a tad overdone, as were the accompanying vegetables, but it was very good. I'd recommend this for anyone wanting a break from the ubiquitous fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits."

  • "As we were back in Charleston again, we decided to return to Fish where we had dined previously. We were definitely not disappointed by our second visit. Food was solid. Service was top notch even with larger tables near us being cared for by our server. The only negative was the relative lack of seafood dishes for the member of our party who is not a seafood enthusiast. We will definitely done here again."

  • "Fish is a place of contrasts. The bar/lounge area is definitely more bar than lounge but the bartender knew how to make a proper drink. I think his name was Chris? For an appetizer we had the dim sum. Hard to pick just 4 but all were outstanding. I ordered the fish of the day naked and it was superb. The freshness of the fish came through. My husband ordered the grouper and the sauce base had way too much vinegar. We did not stay for dessert or after dinner drink because of the noise level. The room is beautiful and elegant and then LOUD rock and roll music."

  • "Enjoyed a divine dinner after a show at Pure Theatre. The evening was perfect. Food was wonderful. The curry crab soup is to die for!!! Service was exceptional!"

  • "My wife and I choose Fish to be part of our first time taking part in the Spoleto Arts Festival in Charleston. A friend had previously dined at this restaurant, and recommended it to us. Both of us had a wonderful experience, our service was very good. Sarah helped us make some choices with our dinner selections, and she was right on with the menu. We have already recommended Fish to our friends in Mt. Pleasant, and my wife has definitely put Fish on our list of restaurants to return to. We enjoyed ourselves immensely, the portions of food was just right for us, and the desert was to die for. We are going back soon!"

  • "We had a lovely Friday night meal at Fish. Service was attentive yet unobtrusive. Our waitress was knowledgeable about food and wine/drink pairings. The tile fish special was superb while hubby enjoyed the Kale tofu hangar steak with jasmice rice. Hard to find such good true vegetarian options in a seafood town. We were quite pleased and will definitely return on our next trip to Charleston."

  • "In an area with many good restaurants, Fish competes in the food and beverage areas (Monday wine specials) with inconsistent service and almost no ambiance and moderate noise levels. For an after business dinner or a meeting it would be perfect, for a romantic evening or an evening with long absent friends as this was for us, not such a good choice. As I mentioned the food was better than good with all four of us having different tastes and ordering very different Mel's had not one complaint. Would I return yes, but with so many good restaurants in Charleston it would not be on the top of my list."
    Dined on 5/5/2014
  • "Our experience at Fish was somewhat disappointing. I expected a lot of seafood dishes given the name, but there weren't too many. I ordered the 5 tapas dish, which included a tuna roll and a duck roll. I was expecting something like an asian spring roll, but instead it turned out to be miniature sandwiches, and all 5 tapas came together on a tiny tray, about 2 bites each. We sat outside, which was quite nice, and the service was very good."

  • "Have been to Fish before, for lunch, and enjoyed it, particularly sitting in the small outdoor patio. Dinner was disappointing. The tile fish special was so heavily salted, it was inedible for someone who uses little salt. My guest's scallops were tasteless. We left half of our dinners. On the positive side, our waitress was very attentive. Without asking, Fish gave us a free dessert and took half off the dinner bill. "

  • "The food at Fish was creatively put together but didn't try to push the limits. Presentations were artistic and everything tasted so good you wanted it to last forever. Dessert charcuterie plate combined tastes and textures. Our favorite Charleston dining experience- put it at the top of your list"

  • "my husband and i always eat our way through charleston on the weekends we visit. we tried all new places last weekend and fish was new for us in the past 7-8 years....best meal of the weekend! we also had a great meal when the restaurant opened years ago but i forgot all about it. our service was awesome and super attentive without being annoying. LOVE."

  • "Fish was a delight, from the steam bun bread and sweet chili and soy dipping sauce brought to the table to dim sum dessert, it was a delectable journey. The service was good, and the ambiance was outstanding. It would be a great place for a group or also an intimate evening. I would highly recommend it!"

  • "Outstanding food and service. It was pretty loud, but the food and service made up for that."

  • "The noise level was a killer! There was a birthday party of 20, another table of 10, and two tables of 6 in their main dining area which is not very large. The din was over the top. Too bad because I've had many positive experiences at Fish in the past. While I'm picking points, I should also add that the crepe that accompanied my fish entree was so overbaked that it was a complete failure. I'm happy for Fish that their revenues for that evening were optimized, but unfortunately it was noisiest dining experience I think I've ever had. It bodes I'll if this becomes a trend. "

  • "this was our first restaurant on our charleston trip.. what a great start.. the "dim-sun" appetizers and dessert were extraordinarily creative and delicious.. the curry crab soup was a welcome difference from the cream from starchy "she crab" soups so popular.. and finally the entrees were of generous portions and very well prepared.. would highly recommend "

  • "The food was just as amazing as it was the first time. Although, the bread for the lobster roll kind of drowned out the flavor of the lobster. My husband made a good point. If you want a lobster roll, just order 4 lobster roll dim sum.... those were amazing. About the dim sum...I don't think it gets any better than the pork belly.... amazing. the duck confit was a close runner up. For dessert we had the dim sum dessert which we both agreed was incredible.... creme brulee cheesecake, strawberry shortcake parfait, coconut pana cotta and a mint chocolate fudgecicle. The thing I like most about Fish is I feel like I've experienced so many flavors after its all said and done and that's what I'm really looking for in a restaurant."
