We went with a group of five and while the seating was a little tight we enjoyed the coziness of our table. While the restaurant was a little noisy and hard to hear at times the service and food were great.

The decor could use some sound buffers, since once it fills up, it can be bit hard to hear your table companions. It's a lovely, intimate restaurant and hearing matters, so noise could be controlled with some decorating changes. The food is good, except the fish was a bit dry, overcooked. Service is very good. It's convenient to nearby theater and food is good so we eat here regularly.

Wait for food was unexceptably long (1 1/2 hours!). Though wine glasses brought, had to repeatedly ask to order wine, which did not come until after finished appetizers. Fish was mediocre. Table cramped. Will not return.

My friend and I recently dined here and we had a wonderful meal. We had tickets to the theater and the restaurant is just around the corner from the Curran. I am thrilled that the area is now starting to offer quality restaurants near the theaters. I had the salmon and it was perfect. A table next to us had the mussels and they also looked fantastic. I will happily go back.

We ate here pre-theater and enjoyed it very much. The diner who had the fish and chips was disappointed, but the rest of us -- roasted sea bass, poached salmon, fried chicken -- thought our entrees were excellent. The service was excellent, as well. The restaurant is small but the noise level wasn't too bad, and I am very sensitive to this.

We left after one drink because the service was nonexistent. There was one waiter covering the whole room, and all the other staff (whatever their job descriptions are) were not able to give menus or take orders. It took forever to get the wine list. Once gotten, it was difficult to order a drink. We decided to cut our losses and not stay for dinner for fear it would be an agonizing experience.

Fish and Farm has excellent food and ambience. Great if you feel a little splurgy but don't want to break the bank. I had the burger (delicious, can't go wrong) and my girlfriend had the pork chop. Both were flavorful and presented well, and we enjoyed sharing an appetizer salad too, which the chef split into separate plates. The only issue with the place is that they are grossly understaffed (1 waiter, 1 busboy, and 1 maitre' d hotel on a weekend night) which is not enough for the size of the restaurant and the demand. Therefore, service is extremely slow, so don't come here in a rush because dinner takes at least an hour and half, closer to two.

My dining companion and I had Risotto - excellent - and artichoke salad. Artichokes were overcooked - or did not taste like artichokes; the salad was fresh with right amount dressing. Small menu, but sufficient for diverse palates. Wine list was the drawback. Not only was it minuscule, but few wines could be had by glass. While the full bottles may be more profitable, restaurant may want to re-think this since many diners would be pre-event diners. The prices were on the high side though; if we are in the neighborhood again, we would probably re-visit. One comment re service: it took forever to get the first glass of wine, even though we asked for it right away; we had to ask for the refill 3x! definitely not service-friendly!

This is good for a nice meal before going to theater. We were out in plenty of time. The food was on the old-fashioned side, but quite good. The grilled artichoke salad was a highlight. P.S. I think pre-theatre should be a category under No. 2.

The location was handy for The Geary Theater. Food and service were okay but not good enough for us to go out of our way to return. It WAS quiet enough that we could hear each-other, which we appreciated. I loved my cheesecake & fruit in a pt-sized mason jar. Kudos to the waitress who had her hands full.

Fish & Farm, Thanks for the quick service. My wife and I arrive about 30 min early, our reservation was not until 8:15pm, and Fish & Farm seated us right away. My wife had the Cod fish plate, and I had the New York strip, and both were cooked to perfection. The restaurant was very cozy, and the music was great. We weren't seated for an hour after our reservation. One reason that they gave for the late seating was that we hadn't made the reservation until that day.... which shouldn't have any effect on the validity of the reservation. They also said that they were going to give us our first round of drinks on the house, but then they appeared on our bill.

This was our third visit to this restaurant and as it SHOULD be better, I keep hoping they'll get it right. No more. We arrived about 10 minutes early for our reservation and although there were 4 tables set for four, we were escorted to the bar where we waited patiently for 4-5 minutes. When we were then seated, the host put us at the last table in the full row so that we had noisy neighbors left and right. The three 4-tops opposite remained empty all night. It then took about 10 minutes before anyone even brought a wine list - we literally had to beg for it. The waiter took the drinks order and wanted the food order at the same time. Very uncomfortable and although the wine showed up in reasonable time, my draft beer took 20 minutes! Done

Fish and Farm offered our group of 6 a very nice location, convenient to Moscone Center Convention goers as well as visitors to Union Square. Our group arrived a bit early, but were seated immediately. Lighting was good and the acoustics allowed our group to maintain a nice business conversation. A little hard to find, but worth the effort. Pricing seemed reasonable for San Francisco.

Nice place, located in the Mark Twain Hotel. And this is it actually, a nice hotel restaurant - nothing less and nothing more. We've been there at 6 pm and the restaurant was completely empty. During our dinner were never more than 3 tables occupied. The food was nothing to write home about: the crusty artichoke on salad was really good, the goat cheese galette was simply goat cheese, the galette (french pancake) was missing. The salmon was, well, salmon - nice and well done but we had it hundredth of times. The pork chop was less tasty than expected and also too thick cut. Our white wine was really good but much to warm. All together (remember the name!) we would have expected more than a faceless hotel diner.

Limited food items on the menu. Extremely limited wine menu. Disappointed when I brought a friend here who was allergic to shellfish and all of their appetizers consisted of shellfish. The place was also minimally staffed: Our waiter was also the hotel bartender and he was extremely busy, which left little things to be unattended to (like refilling the water).Overall, I was a nice quaint place to eat, but the prices don't equate to the quality of food you would expect.

This was great. We booked it because of the 1000 point deal on Opentable, and because it was really close to the hotel we were staying at, and because we love the idea of farm-to-table restaurants. We were hoping it would be good, but it was great. It exceeded expectations! The service was fantastic and friendly, and the food was so good- especially the sauces. It was reasonably priced and in a great location, but I imagine it's a bit overlooked because it's tucked inside the Mark Twain hotel. I'd definitely recommend this place, especially if you're staying across the street at the Hilton and looking for something close by!

This one is tough to review. Service was great, granted there were only two other tables filled on Labor Day at 730pm. We both loved our food so there is no problem there. What's keeping this place from standing out. Two things I see. Location and alcohol list. Never in my life have I seen cluster of menus for alcohol pieced together like a 5th grade book report. For all the books you get, their list is nothing really exciting. No real craft beer and uninspired cocktails. The ambiance was wonderful and it's location was right near our hotel. A restaurant can't survive on just hotel patrons though and it's location is amiss for this type of restaurant.

1st visit. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty except for a large group which was done eating. We ordered our food, drinks, and appetizers all at once. Our waitor was very dry and uninterested in our table, never checked on us to see how we were doing, or even asked if we were from out of town. The waiter which is also the bartender somehow mixed up me and my friend's drinks; she ordered chardonnay and I ordered a reisling. The crabcakes were horrible and tiny, tasted like the frozen ones from your grocer. The bread was also disgusting, cold and wet. Our entrées took extremely long, a table which arrived 20 minutes after us received their food 1st and they had steaks. We had mediocre fish and hamburgers. The list goes on and on...

I'm a regular at this place and I honestly can't say enough good things. The staff is INCREDIBLE to me. Michael the manager always makes me feel very welcome, as does the rest of the staff. They're extremely kind and knowledgeable about the food and where it comes from (something that is very important to me). The chef is an amazing man, also. I'd recommend the pork chop, the steak, the goat cheese galette, the risotto, and the mussels (I'm partial to the Bretonne preparation). I know that's a lot of items to recommend, but seriously - none of those would disappoint. Even finicky eaters would love it. The wine list is fabulous, too. There aren't many things I would steer potential customers away from. The place is the best. My favorite.

I was looking forward to Fish and Farm, but the experience was less than great. The hostess/waitress was rude and seemed to genuinely hate her job. For a San Francisco restaurant, the bread was terrible - did they get it at Safeway? We ordered two appetizers - the crab cakes and the crispy artichoke salad. They didn't give us plates, so we had to use our tiny bread plates. The crab cakes were good, but the arugula and asparagus salad that came with it was not dressed, making it dry and bitter. The crispy asparagus was good, but the dressing seemed to be olive oil and Kraft Parmesan cheese. I could have made it at home. We had the salmon and the burger - burger was alright, as was the salmon, but wasn't memorable. Overall, not worth it.

Salmon was cooked perfectly but the sauce tasted a bit like flour still, needed to cook for another minute or two. The fried chicken is another customer favorite, but didn't stand out compared to other fried chicken. The "hot sauce butter" was just that - tasted like Frank's in melted butter. The hand crafted cocktails were outstanding. I loved the Tea Chicago Style! Overall, it was good - not bad, but not great.
