  • "above average food, prk chop was very good-- a bit expensive but great service- smallish restaurant space--intimate but a little dull"

  • "I hoped I would find a more imaginative menu. The food was fine, nothing exciting. But, their coffee was wonderful."

  • "made a reservation here for 4 adults and 3 young children. My friends arrived first & were very intimidated, expecting that our 3 young children or our casual attire were going to get us turned away. The staff actually gave us our own, sealed-off room. It was perfect. The kids could runa round and be loud, we could relax and enjoy each other and our food. we were so stoked and appreciative."

  • "We were staying at the Hilton across and wanted something less traveled. It's menu is small but he choices were spot on. The food was good and prices reasonable."

  • "This place has potential and I guess once it was good, but the food was really quite bad. I don't want to be mean as the staff were lovely. Maybe it was a bad night...."
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "Excellent food and service. The food is well-conceived, with the true flavors of the fish or meat not overwhelmed with a muddle of flavors, as is the case with some restaurants nowadays. Subtle sauces enhance the flavors of very fresh fish and meat. Service is attentive without being overwhelming - kind of like the food."

  • "Extremely fresh, well-prepared local ingredients. Intimate setting. Never had a bad meal here."

  • "It's unfortunate that more people don't give this restaurant a try. The food was good and the wait staff was eager. The starters were AMAZING! The main courses were good, but not as good as the starters. The grillled calamari salad is a must have!"
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "Really a disgraceful restaurant. poor food, empty place, strange service. The wait staff tried but really did not know how to serve..We were very disappointed and will not return."

  • "We needed a place to meet family members from the East Bay and the peninsula. I gambled on Open Table and we were delighted. The cornbread which accompanied the delicious fried chicken was so e of the best ever."

  • "Great food and our servers were nice. slightly pricey drinks but overall great experience."

  • "The service was very, very slow - almost got up and walked - felt the description thru Open Table was totally exaggerated - food was over priced - even for San Francisco"

  • "Very good pre-theater dinner , convenient to ACT. My companion had moules marinieres & frites, with count 'em, 48 moules in the portion! I had roasted cod, perfectly cooked, with a great sauce and lovely veggies. Not inexpensive, but worth the money. I will go back again. Good service, pleasing decor, tucked into the Mark Twain hotel, nice ambience, quiet enough for conversation, put this into a good find category. "

  • "When we arrived, the place was empty. That should have been our first clue to leave, but we thought we'd give it a try anyway. We started with two drinks, which took about 10 minutes to get, in an empty restaurant. Appetizer where good, but the main course still needed a chefs flare. I had the New York Strip, which had a lot of grissle and was covered in a sauce that overwhelmed the flavor of the beef. A $27 dish and I left half. I don't recommend this place. "

  • "very solid food, from a small menu (which i like). service was friendly and fast. we were there for a business meeting, others seemed to be tourists from the hotel upstairs. good for either group, but not a hip or romantic spot"

  • "My husband and I dined here for date night. I am on a no-grain and no-sugar diet, and I was able to find a few dishes off the menu that suit my needs. The raw oysters were fresh, but the calamari salad hit us at the right spot. My pan-roasted rock cod was cooked perfectly. My husband enjoyed his cioppino and Scotch. The place is small, the tables are placed close together. It would've been nice if I didn't have to eavesdrop on neighboring patrons. The servers were a little rough on the edges on their waiting skills, but were very polite. "

  • "The wait staff was indifferent. We asked for a booth (most of them were empty), and were told it would be a 30 minute wait for those. It was a date. We were then seated between other tables, face-to-face, interview style with no privacy. After we had finished the meal, we both noticed the booths had never been occupied that evening. That, and never a smile from any of the staff. We won't be going back."

  • "Though the food was great as usual, and I've always thought Fish & Farm was one of the best deals in the area near the theaters/Union Square, it wasn't the best experience on this occasion. I brought out of town friends with two kids and, though it was very early, and still half empty, I got the feeling those kids were not welcome. One of them is a picky eater and the server just shut down any discussion of whether they might be able to do something he would like. For a restaurant of this caliber to refuse to consider meeting any off-menu requests seems unreasonable. I am pretty forgiving of servers, since I was a terrible one myself, but this particular server made me embarrassed to have brought my friends there. "

  • "We all ordered a different dish. Everyone was happy with their dinner. The scallops were cooked to perfection, appetizer mussels were tasty and fresh. We had the apple tart and molten chocolate cake. Tart was very good, the cake was a miss. Would go again. Neighborhood is sketchy. "

  • "Fish and Farm is a small room with 11 tables. It's part of the Mark Twain hotel. One waitress was responsible for the entire room except for one table which was served by several people. The "special table". The rest of the room was left alone except when necessary to plop down your food. We felt sorry for the overwhelmed waitress who seemed to be doing her best to take care of the rest of the room. The food was average. We though the fish either frozen or a lower grade or both. We won't return. This was my worst review yet for opentable."

  • "If you like a relaxed meal, this might be the place for you. Food was good, but menu was somewhat limited (only artichoke or calamari salad, no more basic salad) and service seemed inattentive for a not very crowded night"
    Dined on 5/3/2014
  • "I was dining alone and was asked to sit in the bar when there were many empty tables in the dining room. The dining room would have been much more comfortable."

  • "very nice guy who served us, but he appeared to be the only one!!! We waited quite a long time to be served/order taken/wine brought to table, but the food here is good and (for some) may be worth the wait."

  • "Kind of hidden away in the hotel, it was defintely worth finding. The best seafood I have had in years! The waitstaff were phenomenal!"

  • "Table was not ready when we arrived so had drink at bar accessed through drab hotel lobby. Ambience at bar was not good, though had a very good cocktail. Service through meal was patchy. Food was good! Flavoursome and well presented! We were staying locally to this restaurant and it provided us with a pleasant dinner!"

  • "Three of us went to Fish & Farm after a matinee. We had 5:30 reservations and were the first to arrive. The waite staff was excellent and very attentive. We all had the mussels which were excellent. The chocolate moten cake could have been a little more molten :)"

  • "The food was very good and they were very accommodating to our paleo needs. However we felt like we were rushed through the whole meal. They were constantly coming to refill our water to the point that one of our party even said it was stressful. The second each person finished, his plate was cleared away leaving the last few people eating feeling awkward. They even gave us the desert menus while people were still eating their entree. We would have enjoyed the experience a lot more had we not felt like we were being pushed out the whole time. "

  • "This is a very small restaurant with a every intimate yet not overly romantic decor. The menu is limited but the selections are quite varied. The fish was cooked perfectly and was the featured protein. Both the salmon and the yellowtail were delicious and accompanied by delicious vegetables including fennel (salmon) and artichokes (yellowtail). Their wine list was a bit disappointing as it was limited to ~10 selections, 2 of which were not available."

  • "Bad bar experience as it is set in a path of travel for the staff and the bartender didn't know what he was doing. A negron I dies not contain a cherry nor sugar floating at the bottom of the glass. The manager of the restaurant was speaking bluntly and in a demeaning manner to his very young back off house staff who we never should have seen anyway. Just a weird experience altogether."
    Dined on 4/11/2014
  • "Food was good. Service was almost too attentive. Although it was not busy at all that night, we felt like they were rushing us a bit."

  • "Went there for the final night of our wedding/birthday weekend thinking it would be a great place for locally sourced fresh ingredients near Union Square. The kitchen/staff screwed up our order twice, missing something that was ordered and then bringing a duplicate entrée like 10 minutes after we had finished eating - not realizing if we had even eaten yet. Oh, and my vegan dinner of quinoa and bell peppers that was $25 was so small that I had to eat again when I got home. Also pretty unusual to not even be presented with a dessert menu when we told the staff it was one of our guest’s birthdays. Fail all around."

  • "Eliseo Soto is creating delicious food at Fish and Farm. We started with an outstanding artichoke salad. I could drive to the City right now to have that again! The scallops, served with mango cucumber colis, were perfectly cooked; loved every bite. Our excellent server was well informed and kept us on schedule for our 7:00 pm show."

  • "The waiter was wonderful without going over the top. When my friend ordered a glass of wine that they ran out of he brought back two pours of different wines for her to taste to see if she would be ok with something else. The yellowtail was really good. My friend ordered the pork chop and that was phenomenal! I took a taste and it tasted like a steak. Exactly how it should be and very rarely is. It is also nice that all food is naturally farmed and or organic. My friends and I would definitely come back."

  • "My parents were in town visiting from the east coast. We were looking for a restaurant with a good variety of fish and local options. Fish and Farm was the place! The three of us each chose a different type of seafood and none were disappointed. We were willing to try new wines that our waiter suggested with his wealth of knowledge. Will definitely head back there again soon!"

  • "Absolutely fabulous food. Had a rock cod with lentils that was my best piece of rock cod ever."

  • "To be a foodie is to order what is interesting, not common. You wil find that here with Chef Eliseo Soto who is truly gifted. All dishes were well executed, and flavorful. The meat and seafood is sustainably farmed. The plates came filled, and delightfully presented. For starters we shared the plump seared scallops. We fell back into the padded booth not believing what our taste buds were telling us. Then on to the delicious warm goat cheese galette. For the main course we ate the roasted Loch Duart salmon and Yellowtail. All tingling with flavor. I must say, their southern fried Petaluma chicken can stand up to any soul food I’ve tasted before. The homemade desserts were packed with flavor. This is American food with a culinary twist."

  • "Found an open reservation for near our hotel without much lead time. Reviews on Trip Advisor led us here. They focus on local and sustainable food sources. The food was very good. The fried chicken was fabulous, moist and very tasty. We recommend."
