First and SixthBest kept secretWe are from Charlotte so we are not familiar with Roanoke restaurants downtown. Someone we knew recommended First and Sixth. We were a group of 6. We started with wonderful scallop appetizers. I had a delicious wedge salad. We had a variety of dishes and we all gave the food two thumbs up. Delicate fish flavors, wonderful duck confit and my son said his $12 burger was perfection.... accompanied by horseradish fries. Our waiter was attentive and very friendly.
We also had the best risotto that I have ever had and we had just gotten back from Italy. It was creamy... just a slice of heaven. I had asked other people in town if they had been and they had not heard of it. Go and enjoy!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMI had heard many great thingsI had heard many great things about 1st and 6th and was excited to try for myself. The staff was knowledgable and the food was outstanding. I had the mahi mahi and the flavors were outstanding. I will be back and I look forward to trying brunch.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good!My husband and I had dinner at First and Sixth and had a pleasant experience. We have dined here once before and already knew the food was good. We started with the mussels as an appetizer, as well as the "Lollychops" that came with the most delicious grits I've ever had. The mussels were supposed to be P.E.I. mussels, but our waitress said they were out and had to "borrow" some from a nearby restaurant. When we asked if they were P.E.I. mussels, she said they were, but I seriously doubt they were to be honest. My husband got the burger as an entree and it was very good and perfectly cooked to his instructions. I had the steak frites. I was a bit disappointed, as the steak came already chopped up and was dry. Overall, good food.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb DinnerWe travel to Roanoke from Boston once or twice a year and enjoy sampling the restaurants. This was our first visit to FIrst and Sixth and we were delighted. Our dinner began with our waiter, Kevin, giving delightful and helpful recommendations from the menu. The Coffee & Brown Sugar Rubbed Scallops, Leeks, Bacon, Saffron Beurre Blanc were delicious. The Grilled Virginia Rockfish Over Lemon Mascarpone & Asparagus Risotto was superb. The low country shrimp and grits with Tasso gravy put us on a mission to try and duplicate the dish at home.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMOur group of ten enjoyed thisOur group of ten enjoyed this restaurant, the menu has a variety of options to fit various tastes, appetites and price ranges. The coffee crusted scallops were perfectly cooked and seasoned, crab dip was tasty as was the duck bruschetta. I ordered the Inner Harbor crab cakes and they had lots of lump crab with little filler. Many in our group chose the NY strip and enjoyed their steaks. Overall a great dining experience in downtown Roanoke.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's day 2013The food and service were great on a busy Mother's day. The Buffet had plenty of choices for Brunch and the food was fresh, hot and did not run out.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first experience...After a long week, we found a babysitter and tried out First & Sixth. We got there around 9pm. As soon as we walked in they knew it was us and we're seated immediately. Great setting, very modern and a great, mid-sized bar. Corinne was our server and did an excellent job. It was the best service I have had in a really, really ling time. The food was great too, we just did a couple of appetizers. You should definitely give this place a try, beer you will end up coming back!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall, I was very impressedOverall, I was very impressed with First and Sixth and look forward to going back soon. This was our first visit and the Rockfish in particular was great. Our only complaint was the portion size of the Dr. Pepper pork tenderloin...we were told 9 oz, but it couldn't have been more than 4 oz...not at all sufficient or comparable to the other entree sizes (and one person got a filet at our table!). It's genuinely a small blemish on an otherwise great night. Parking on the street is not as ample as the ad suggests, but there are pay lots around the Patrick Henry. Definitely will return and hope others begin to find this gem in downtown Roanoke!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been to the restaurantWe have been to the restaurant several times and the food and service has always been excellent. It is our favorite place to go in Roanoke and we plan to return again and again.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome spot for a birthdayAwesome spot for a birthday dinner! Nice job!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMTry the OystersWe were the only diners in the restaurant (7:15 reservation), so were a bit concerned at first. No worry! This is an excellent restaurant and I would return in a heartbeat. Try, in particular, the oysters bienville; they are special!4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Easter brunch! The staffGreat Easter brunch! The staff was very attentive, the food was delicious. One of the best brunches I've had.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious Easter brunch...myDelicious Easter brunch...my favorites, sausage gravy with homemade muffins, the best shrimp and grits and chocolate cake! There was the option to order an omelet and make your own bloodie marys :) the setting is a historic hotel...restaurant named after the hotel and the first and sixth governor of Virginia...Patrick Henry! Service was very good; looking forward to our return!!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMOur new favoriteMy husband and I have been to First and Sixth twice now and both visits were wonderful. The ambience is graceful, the food is outstanding, and the music is wonderful. Their shrimp & grits rivals any in Charleston, SC which is the home of shrimp & grits. This is our new favorite restaurant.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMA fine restaurant, good honestA fine restaurant, good honest bar and attentive service. Made a good impression on my guests from out of the USA.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
