A word from Firestone's
Firestone's Culinary Tavern, opened in 1999, is located in downtown Frederick's picturesque Historic District. It is housed in a 1921 building that was initially the home of Shipley's Department Store. The restaurant combines outstanding cuisine with the casual atmosphere of a neighborhood tavern. The Washington Post says, "the atmosphere is prime...the food is, too!". Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I was fortunate enough to have a table by the window. I love people watching and observing the dynamic change as late the early evening street croud turned from family strolls to heavy party goers. The food was awesome and the wine list was just right. If you do have an opportunity to reserve a table, make sure it's a window seat! I love this place!"

  • "For dinning an upstairs table is what one wants. A table by the window overlooking Market Street will make the experience a rememberable one. The menu, while limited, is a delight and the food is well prepared."

  • "Firestone has a casual vibrant atmosphere with some old world charm. Great location on Market Street in downtown Frederick. We sat upstairs in the front window, so it was fun to look down on the street and watch people walk by below. Our waitress, Karen, took great care of us and gave us excellent suggestions for food choices. My husband's pastrami sandwich was to die for and I don't usually care for red meat! The pastrami is house made and served on toasted house made sourdough bread. We will return just for that!"

  • "Overall the restaurant was good, but need another visit to really decide on the overall quality. Probably try the bar area next time."

  • "Overall enjoyed the atmosphere and food. The noise level was a little high at times but acceptable. The wait staff was efficient and polite and the steaks we ordered were fantastic. Was a little pricey but what isn't nowadays."

  • "My wife and I have been to Firestone's three times now and we are blown away each and every time. The service there is on spot! they have up to three people helping with each table. We both got the Hanger steak......hands down, best steak dinner I have ever had!! I can't stress enough how good this meal is. Hanger steak aka butcher's cut is, dare I say, better than filet mignon! 100% juicy, tender, melt in your mouth goodness. Cooked perfectly and the leak sauce is an awesome addition and the pickled roots offer a pleasant taste difference! Go to Firestone's!!!!!"

  • "We enjoy Firestone's every chance we get to have a night out. It is our first choice in the area for an evening of great food and great wine. The service is always friendly, punctual and adds to the overall dining experience."

  • "Service was spot on and the food was delicious. Everything tasted fantastic. The meat plate appetizer had amazing pate. An entree with the pork shank was so tender, it literally pretty much fell off the bone. The gnocchi was delicious as well and very flavorful. Well worth a trip back to Frederick."

  • "We have eaten here numerous times and have never been disappointed. Service is always top notch. On our most recent visit, there was six of us and the restaurant was packed; even so our waiter was very attentive and friendly, we never felt rushed. Highly suggest trying their deviled eggs, totally awesome! My duck was cooked perfectly and oh-so tasty. The granola apple-cobbler was a perfect finish to a wonderful evening. Thanks Firestone for making our evening a rememberable event."

  • "We went to celebrate my wife's birthday and it was definitely a memorable experience. We didn't realize it was restaurant week when we made the reservations. As it turns out there was a special menu for the occasion which made it even more special for my wife. The Hangar steak was spot on incredible! All the way through to the Crème Brûlée. Very special indeed"

  • "The food at Firestone is inspired, utilizes good ingredients, and is very tasty. The servers are very professional and are well choreographed in their approach, almost like the whole dinner is scripted. However, the kitchen is so slow, that dinner becomes an almost painful experience. During a three course dinner there was a 20 to 30 minute wait between each course. When the food arrives it deserves to be savored, but the wait had been so long that this was challenging. Add to this the noise from the bar below and the result is that you can find better value for your dining dollar and time in Frederick."

  • "Food was glorious. Very impressed that they offered an amuse bouche and palette cleansing sorbet! Dietary restrictions were catered for and the waiter very aware of them, making substitutions before we had to ask. I at my first steak in 24 years...I'm so glad it was at Firestones. Highly recommend."

  • "We drove up from the Gaithersburg area on a Sunday afternoon and enjoyed a great meal on the 2nd floor "deck" overlooking the jazz ensemble playing in the front window. Excellent drinks and delicious food with a very attentive wait staff; we'll be back!"

  • "I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner during restaurant week. The menu was diverse, which we loved! I had goat cheese gnocci with veggies and he had the roasted duck breast. Whiskey ice cream over apple cobbler for dessert! The restaurant is beautifully done with soft lighting, dark wood. The service was unobtrusive, knowledgeable. The only fault I could find was the noise level. The bar is downstairs and was quite active. The noise bounces off the metal ceiling and amplifies. It was very difficult to converse during a two hour dinner. When flirtations need to be shouted...kind of ruins the romance."

  • "This is my favorite restaurant in Frederick, so far! The food is always prepared deliciously and with a lot of flair! Each visit there are menu changes that keep it new. If you can, get a table by the window, the view is awesome!"

  • "We were completely surprised by how outstanding the food, service, and atmosphere was. We had a table overlooking Market Street which added an extra touch to the evening. Additionally several tastings were sent from the chef and each one was better than the last! We highly recommend this place and we intend to go back repeatedly!"

  • "This place is an awesome place for dinner with friends. Food never disappoints (always solid) and the Wine list is awesome. Never had a bad meal here and the bar downstairs is so much fun. Great night"

  • "Met an old friend here for lunch. The waitress seemed to know that we wanted to relax and talk and eat. So, service was great, but not pushy to eat and move on. Thoroughly enjoyed our food and our drinks. Loved the touch of the anchovy on my small side Caesar salad. Too many restaurants are omitting them these days."

  • "Took my lovely date here for a Friday night dinner. I made reservations for 6:30 p.m., we arrived early, and they gladly seated us right away. The place was packed, especially the bar area as it was during happy hour. It was quite noisy due to all the people, and my date and I often had trouble hearing one another from just across the table. However, the service was prompt, non-intrusive and the waiter made a great recommendation on a sweet wine for my date. The food was also very good (I ordered a steak done medium and it was perfect). Aside from the volume level, I would say it is a great energetic place to hang out for a drink and a good dinner (not so much a quiet romantic date)."

  • "This Resturant was unbelievable! It has the old historic features on the inside! The staff is phenomenal! They have an extensive wine list that you can buy glasses or bottles. The duck was cooked to perfection; best duck I have ever tasted! Not too expensive. Definitely a nice getaway for a romantic evening!"

  • "Firestone's is one of our favorite restaurants and it never disappoints. The food arrives hot, not lukewarm and is delicious. Our server was attentive, but not overly. I wish I could remember her name, but she was amazing! Firestone: my husbands states... "NEVER remove the Pastrami Sandwich from the menu!" It is the BEST sandwich, and I agree completely!! DELICIOUS!!"

  • "We decided to celebrate our Valentine's Day on Saturday the 15th so we didn't have to feel rushed after working Friday. We were seated on time for our 6:30 reservation and quickly introduced to the waiter. The menu had a variety of appetizers, salads and entrees that sounded delicious and made deciding on one item difficult. We shared two appetizers and our entrees were perfectly prepared and delicious. I ordered the scallops and couldn't stop talking about how sweet and perfectly prepared they were. We finished the meal off with an espresso cheesecake and banana nut bread pudding with cinnamon ice cream, again, excellent. The waiter and staff were very friendly and attentive. We are looking forward to visiting Firestone's again."

  • "Amazing food at Firestones. Great service . The only thing I had a problem with was the vent pumping cold air towards our table. Asked to have vent closed and was told it already was."

  • "My wife and I went for our second time this Valentine's day and it was amazing! Get the Hanger steak!!!! Also there French Onion soup was one of the best I've had...it has a sweeter taste than the usual french onion soup you'll find other places. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Oyster Shooter drink...it was small but full of flavor. Go here!!"

  • "Firestone's has a historic feel, with its large and rustic first floor bar area, original wood floors, and open second floor area looking over the bar and offering several tables that also have a view out the window of historic Frederick. The menu offers a nice variety of elegantly prepared food choices. The beer and wine list is extensive. The service was very good, although our waiter was a little unusual in some of his manorisms, however for a very busy evening, the courses were delivered at good intervals. Firestone's is definitely on my top 5 list of restaurant choices in Frederick."

  • "Excellent restaurant, with terrific food and service. Wait time between courses longer than expected. Noise level a little high, mostly coming from the bar. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Frederick."

  • "My husband and I were told by our waiter that the corn beef sandwich is good at Firestone. He was right! Well worth trying. We were there for a late lunch and it was quiet. We had a second floor window table that we were told we were assigned for making our reservation with Open Table. Thank you Open Table!"

  • "I have been to this restaurant 4 times, and each time the service, food and ambience has been the same, perfect! It is reassuring to know you can expect the same level of service and quality of food when you dine at Firestone's."

  • "It was a dreary mid-week evening, with more bad weather forecast. The reception was warm, our waitress smiled at my request to "keep the storm away for a couple of hours" (and succeeded). and was very understanding about our desire to conclude business reasonably rapidly. Our meals (hanger steak and "pork and beans") were good if not memorable and the wine was fine. It's a good spot."

  • "We went during first Saturday which is a crowded night, but we were seated on time. Our waitress Heather was awesome and great! The food menu was ok though. We are foodies, but were disappointed by the choices. Needs more variety for people--seafood, chicken, meat, etc."

  • "We waited to long to seek reservations for VOLT and were delighted to get into Firestone's. We found good parking on the street, had great upstairs table with view of action on Market street. Service was wonderful as were recommendations on food and local beer. everything was A-1."

  • "Was First Saturday in Frederick so things were very busy -- had a nice view of Market Street so great opportunity to people watch. Michael provided great service and the food was just outstanding. You really need to try the Pork and Beans before the leave the menu."

  • "Had lunch on both 1 & 2 Feb 14. Server was right on top of everything. Food was super delicious and really enjoyed the jazz being played on 2 Feb. The wine list was very good and prices within reason. Simply enjoyed. One in our party could not manage the stairs, so the staff set up tables to accommodate us downstairs. That's service!!"

  • "When I want a "pick-me-up", this place is at the top of my list! What better way to enjoy fine food then with a glass of wine and listen to good jazz!!! If I were a local, I'd be there every Sunday for brunch! Doesn't get much better!!"
