A word from Firestone's
Firestone's Culinary Tavern, opened in 1999, is located in downtown Frederick's picturesque Historic District. It is housed in a 1921 building that was initially the home of Shipley's Department Store. The restaurant combines outstanding cuisine with the casual atmosphere of a neighborhood tavern. The Washington Post says, "the atmosphere is prime...the food is, too!".

5 of us had a reservation during the weekday and had a nice window table upstairs. Food was fine, not over the top great. Menu was limited and "casual food" was not on the menu. However we inquired about that and there were a few choices that we could have upstairs, that was served in the bar area.

Brought my 88 year old grandmother for brunch and they were so accomodating about getting us a table on the first level because she can't climb the stairs to the second level where they have the dining tables. I love the brunch here. It is consistently really good. Love the quiche. The portions are huge and the prices reasonable.

  • The worst dining experience EVER!

Worse dining experience I've ever had! The kitchen lost our order and then did not know how to deal with us and the fact that everyone around us who was seated after us was receiving their meals before us! I asked for our check, because I was tired of waiting over and hour and a half for our meals. Then they have the audacity to "cancel" our reservation after we left! Don't go here, don't waste your time. There are plenty of better restaurants in Frederick!

Although not a kid friendly menu, the waitress made every effort to help my daughter pick something she would enjoy. They were very patient. Our yearly father daughter dinner was nice, and I enjoyed my food selection. I plan on returning with my wife. Save room for dessert.

Really great wine and beer selection. Friendly, attentive and professional service. Cozy and unique dining area. Really loved the complimentary mushroom soup and sorbet. Touches like that would bring me back. Am inspired to try to the bar menu sometime for a more casual experience.

  • I usually go out for brunch

I usually go out for brunch in DC, but I was meeting up with some people from out of town, and meeting in Frederick was right in the middle. We went to Firestone's for Sunday brunch and it was a very pleasant atmosphere. Waiters/ waitresses were very professional. Firestone's is two-floors, but still feels very cozy. The menu had some some unique and more up-scale brunch dishes than you would find at other restaurants, which I enjoyed. We had such a pleasant time that before we knew it, two hours had gone by! Overall, we had a great experience and would recommend to others.

  • We made a wrong choice for
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 11/7/2009
We made a wrong choice for an anniversary dinner, as the ambient noise, which included screaming babies, was intolerable. After being seated next to a table with a baby in a high chair who was pounding the table with two spoons, we asked for a different table. While there were several available tables, it seemed to take forever for the waiter to get permission from the manager to switch tables. Service was quite good after the switch, but the overall scene seemed hurried, hectic and noisy. Salads were fresh and delicious. Entrees were mediocre. Wine list quite good. If you're looking for an energetic bar scene and don't mind shouting at your partner to be heard, this is an OK place for a casual dinner.

  • The window table upstairs
    OpenTable Diner Since 2005VIP

The window table upstairs was very nice. Industrial decor, it became noisy, when all tables were filled. Rabbit Terrine was with flakes like tuna, not like pate. The phesant and rainbow trout were both excellent, but both too "oily and heavy" for my taste. Outside of the phesant was almost deep-fried, and the curry cream sauce of the trout was too heavy. The complimentary soup and the pineapple sorbet between the courses were very nice touch. I highly recommend this new restaurant.

we have been to firestones for eveything from just a couple of drinks at the bar to dinner and to their Sunday brunch. We have always had great food and great service, everyone is vey friendly. we were at brunch a few weeks ago and our waiter was not very attentive, we thought that was unusual for this place. My daughters came in from NY this past weekend and we took them to Sunday brunch - it was awesome, they absolutely loved it and as expected the food and service were excellent. We highly recommend this place, not really setup for young children because of the bar scene but an excellent and romantic date night location. Definately one of our favorite places to go. If you want a window balcony seat - make a reservation it's worth it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary dinner and first time visit to Firestones. The staff seated us at a window table on the mezzanine overlooking Market St. The chef provided a gratis cauliflower bisque and a gratis homemade pineapple sorbet as two extra courses to our 4-course meal. Appetizers, salad, entree and coffee all top notch. Nice wine list and nice Cab Sauv rec from our server, Kristin. The bread pudding, and the dessert menu overall, seemed to lack the creativity and tasty flare we experienced with everything else we consumed; however, given our overwhelming satisfaction with the rest of the experience, we consider this a footnote, and something Firestone's can easily improve. Also, great value: $100 + we added $20 tip.
