A word from Firestone's
Firestone's Culinary Tavern, opened in 1999, is located in downtown Frederick's picturesque Historic District. It is housed in a 1921 building that was initially the home of Shipley's Department Store. The restaurant combines outstanding cuisine with the casual atmosphere of a neighborhood tavern. The Washington Post says, "the atmosphere is prime...the food is, too!".

  • The setting for this restaurant
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

The setting for this restaurant is in an old restored building in downtown Frederick. The seating is all (or mostly) upstairs overlooking the lively downstairs bar scene or the main street. Because of this setting, with the upstairs open to the first floor, it is loud but not so that you had to shout to anyone at your table. Some restaurants are so quiet you might as well include the entire restaurant in your table conversation! Our server was good, although a little too quick to leave whenever he came around, like he needed to be somewhere else. The food was very great and well priced. We liked how the chef gave out little samples of soup & sorbet!

Took some out of town guests to Firestone and they loved it. We'd been a few times already, and it seems like every time we go it gets better. The menu rotates which keeps it interesting and us coming back. There is also a good wine and beer list with many very decent wines available by the glass.

The Open Table Reservation was great, I was a little skeptical at 1st, but our table was ready when we came through the door and the requested location. Firestone's has been one of our favorites. 1st time there on a Friday night, the bar was very energetic, but we were upstairs, so it didn't really bother us. The food and our server were excellent!

Our dining experience was just perfect! We were celebrating my daughter 19th birthday. I had ordered flowers from a florist just down the street and was promised that they would be on the table when we arrived. The table was beautifully set on the second floor over looking the bar on one side and historic Market Street out the window next to our table. The waitstaff and food was amazing as we enjoyed every course. We never felt rushed as we savered every bite and every moment of our special evening. Thank you!!!

My husband was meeting a high school friend for dinner. He is very picky about the food quality, he wants a high quality "meat and potatoes" meal... not to "fancy" and he doesn't mind paying for it. I made this reservation on a friends recommendation and was very pleased. We all thought the food was excellent, even our teenagers. The chef even made a couple dishes special for me because I don't eat onions. The price was very reasonable for a lovely dinner. The service was wonderful and I would recommend Firestone's.

I loved it I truly truly truly believe that service makes a restaurant not JUST the food and our server, she was AMAZING! All the employees that take plates and bring food were so helpful and we never waited for anything. I always ask for recommendations on what to order because they always know best, all four of us ordered what she suggested and she was right on! I will for sure be back and so will the company we brought with us.

I took my girlfriend here on a romantic date, it was really lovely. The upper area was very elegant, and had cozy little tables for two by the window. It was beautiful on the inside and the outside. The food was amazing, and the service was just as good. Very few minutes people would stop in to see if anything was needed. May have been a bit pricey but overall it was worth it.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2004
    Dined on 12/6/2009
Our experience at Firestone's was pleasant. They did accommodate our request for a window table; otherwise, the space is rather dark and somewhat dingy looking. The highlight was the oyster selection---truly outstanding and sea fresh. The wine-by-the-glass was very good. The brunch menu main entrees, on the other hand, were limited to egg-based dishes. The jazz band--downstairs--was a great touch.

Worse dining experience I've ever had! The kitchen lost our order and then did not know how to deal with us and the fact that everyone around us who was seated after us was receiving their meals before us! I asked for our check, because I was tired of waiting over and hour and a half for our meals. Then they have the audacity to "cancel" our reservation after we left! Don't go here, don't waste your time. There are plenty of better restaurants in Frederick!

I usually go out for brunch in DC, but I was meeting up with some people from out of town, and meeting in Frederick was right in the middle. We went to Firestone's for Sunday brunch and it was a very pleasant atmosphere. Waiters/ waitresses were very professional. Firestone's is two-floors, but still feels very cozy. The menu had some some unique and more up-scale brunch dishes than you would find at other restaurants, which I enjoyed. We had such a pleasant time that before we knew it, two hours had gone by! Overall, we had a great experience and would recommend to others.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 11/7/2009
We made a wrong choice for an anniversary dinner, as the ambient noise, which included screaming babies, was intolerable. After being seated next to a table with a baby in a high chair who was pounding the table with two spoons, we asked for a different table. While there were several available tables, it seemed to take forever for the waiter to get permission from the manager to switch tables. Service was quite good after the switch, but the overall scene seemed hurried, hectic and noisy. Salads were fresh and delicious. Entrees were mediocre. Wine list quite good. If you're looking for an energetic bar scene and don't mind shouting at your partner to be heard, this is an OK place for a casual dinner.

The window table upstairs was very nice. Industrial decor, it became noisy, when all tables were filled. Rabbit Terrine was with flakes like tuna, not like pate. The phesant and rainbow trout were both excellent, but both too "oily and heavy" for my taste. Outside of the phesant was almost deep-fried, and the curry cream sauce of the trout was too heavy. The complimentary soup and the pineapple sorbet between the courses were very nice touch. I highly recommend this new restaurant.

We have always had great food and great service, everyone is vey friendly. we were at brunch a few weeks ago and our waiter was not very attentive, we thought that was unusual for this place. My daughters came in from NY this past weekend and we took them to Sunday brunch - it was awesome, they absolutely loved it and as expected the food and service were excellent. We highly recommend this place, not really setup for young children because of the bar scene but an excellent and romantic date night location. Definately one of our favorite places to go. We thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary dinner and first time visit to Firestones. The staff seated us at a window table on the mezzanine overlooking Market St. The chef provided a gratis cauliflower bisque and a gratis homemade pineapple sorbet as two extra courses to our 4-course meal. Appetizers, salad, entree and coffee all top notch. Nice wine list and nice Cab Sauv rec from our server, Kristin. The bread pudding, and the dessert menu overall, seemed to lack the creativity and tasty flare we experienced with everything else we consumed; however, given our overwhelming satisfaction with the rest of the experience, we consider this a footnote, and something Firestone's can easily improve. Also, great value: $100 + we added $20 tip.
