Firehouse Restaurant is a central and southern Italian inspired restaurant located in the historic Dekum Firehouse in NE Portland. We offer seasonable fare using sustainable fish, meats, and produce whenever possible. We use a wood-fired oven, rotisserie and grill that emphasize technique, seasonality, and a simple straightforward approach to food. • "We dine at The Firehouse as often as we can but often are foiled because it's so popular and we don't usually plan in advance. We also usually eat late and every time we've wanted the chicken it's been sold out! :( Well on Friday night we planned ahead, made a reservation, and were able to have the rotisserie chicken...YUMMM! We'll be ordering that again soon. Thanks Firehouse."

  • "High notes: beet appetizer was delicious, the pizza crust was thin and tasty like real Italian pizza, carrot cake dessert with cream cheese ice cream was awesome and memorable, ambience was enjoyable due to the history of the building and preservation, loved the smoky smell due to wood-fired oven, service was great and we appreciated having our table wiped down after every course. We rarely see that in even the more expensive restaurants. A few lower notes: pizza crust got soggy and I ended up folding it in order to eat it, pizza sauce lacked flavor, chicken was a bit salty, wine list rather limited. All in all this is a place worth visiting. I would probably not order the pizza next time and instead try the pasta. Dessert would be a must!"

  • "Was there for a first date. A bit noisy & crowded. Very interesting old brick firehouse, nice courtyard entrance. Place has character, wood fired oven smell permeates the place. The three course offering was great, hanger steak was just outstanding. Our waiter went beyond the call, recommending great food & wine, and then hung out while we were the last customers to leave without rushing us. Then kitchen staff chatted us up on the way out near 11:00pm. Very good food, nice & friendly folks, I'll be back for sure."

  • "AWESOME> perfectly braised broccoli - even the stems were tender. Wonderful pork shoulder and ribs with papardelle pasta - flavorful, not heavy deliciousness. Then chocolate pots de creme - oh lord - smooth chocolate, a wonderful layer of salted caramel, hazelnuts and Chantilly cream. Portions just right - left so happy and satisfied, but not stuffed to the gills. Made a get together with a dear friend even better."

  • "Four adults & a 13 month old. First visit. Every course served was excellent. The wood burnng pizza oven produces truely outstanding, authentic Northern Italian pizza... The wood fired baked mussels are the best we've ever eaten! Service was very good. Great vibe. Great value. We will definitly be returning."

  • "My husband and I heard about this restaurant from friends and decided to go for dinner a few nights ago. I was able to easily make same-day reservations on Open Table for the time we wanted to go-6pm. The food choices were excellent and the portions were more that generous. We both loved the romaine salad with anchovy vinaigrette and would return just to have the salad. They make their own bread, crispy and fresh. The chocolate pots de creme we shared for dessert was yummy and we could have easily shared it with two other people. I took the rest of the meatballs I ordered home for a second meal. There is a happy hour and we would gladly return just for the food and ambiance. Go during the week, and enjoy."

  • "Group of 7 business associates had a great meal. A little variety in that we had several different entrees. Pizza, meatballs, pappardelle and hanger steak all received great comments. Service was just right. Our server was availae when needed but not hovering. We tried all four dessert options and again, all were a hit. We all will be back."

  • "We've been to Firehouse several times, but it had kind of fallen off of our radar. We had friends in town for the last Sunday of the Portland Dining Month and decided to give it another go. We had incredible service and the food was amazing. We did have to wait for a table, but as soon as we were seated, we were given excellent attention. We were dining with kids, which can be problematic, but the staff was warm and friendly, offered suggestions, and paid attention to how young children altered their plans. The salads were amazing, the pasta perfectly al dente, and the cocktail were spot on."

  • "My wife and I had a great experience here during Portland Dining Month. There was no way we each needed an entree, appetizer, and desert so they let us do one dining month special and another salad to complete our meal, which they didn't technically have to do. All of the food was delicious, including the pizza, and especially the fennel bruschetta. It was also very accommodating to myself as a vegetarian."

  • "You know the kitchen staff is confident when there isn't any salt and pepper on the table. And they should be! Get full on the Happy Hour menu with $3 small plates like perfectly fried cauliflower or $10 pizzas with a chewy thin crust. Wash it down with $5 house wine. Or better yet, get the three course menu for either $25 or $29. We will be back!"

  • "We hadn't been to the Firehouse before ....and are somewhat skeptical of 'themed' restaurants around things like a firehouse ....but there we were. Actually, the initial small plates of vegetables blew our collective socks off - cauliflower and another of broccoli were each very well spiced and very interesting. (A second order for broccoli was sent for ...and devoured!) Main courses included meat balls, muscles (shared by two of our party), and hangar steak for the four of us. Wow - we were pleased. The meat balls included a generous serving of six 'balls' which were well spiced. The hangar steak was perfectly prepared and had tasty shaved finger potatoes. The muscles were a hit. All in all - we were impressed."

  • "I treated my dear friend (2nd Mom) to a birthday dinner. It was one of the best dinner ever! We were greeted at the door by a gracious young man (who also was the last to bid us good night!). We had an unrushed fabulous night. We were seated in the back quarter, where we were able to enjoy the delightful music for the first hour of our dinner before the tables filled. After that, it was difficult to hear over the joyous conversation of the five additional parties that came for dinner. We enjoyed the food & the service (including those who kept our water glasses full and delivered our three course meal). I will return with friends...a true gem in North Portland!!"

  • "Great variety of dishes - all made beautifully. We had a white pizza and a true cod as our mains - both very tasty. The salads were great. Really enjoyed the pot de creme with salted caramel - nice mix of just a little salt with darker chocolate."

  • "Amazing food, great space. Pretty good service, just really, really quiet. We were there at 5:30 on a Wednesday; maybe the place just hadn't heated up yet. The food was amazing, though, so nothing else mattered!"

  • "It was OK. Nothing special given the exceptional dining scene of PDX. Our pizza was soggy, the mains were fine...nothing bad, nothing wow. The best dishes were their small plates and the desserts. The dessert was the one thing that would bring me back. It is a good place to take unadventurous diners."

  • "The food was fantastic -- everyday 3-course options for $29 are worth taking advantage of -- and we both really liked our cocktails. I never thought I'd rave about cauliflower or roast chicken, but both were wonderful, as was my husband's hangar steak and cod + potato fritters. I was most impressed by the service. Our servers were absolutely perfect. Our water glasses were kept full, our food was served quickly, their knowledge of wine was fantastic without being pretentious, and somehow all of that happened without our conversations ever being interrupted. Only complaint: the couple beside us talking SO loudly were hard to ignore. Two-top tables are very close together."

  • "Entrees included the pizza and chicken. Food good. Our server was on and off attentive. Quick to get another drink order, but slow on getting our orders, bringing the check, picking up the check, etc.. Also, we sat near the door which was open. At the beginning, I asked that if the door was to remain open (at night it was really cooling down), that we be moved to a different table. The server said she would ask the hostess to close the door which was closed shortly. However, not long after, it was re-opened. I know I tend to be colder than others, which is why I mentioned we could move our table (there were 2 other tables that could have fit two people open). Feel like she should have known the door would be re-opened, or moved us."

  • "It was our first time to Firehouse, the service and ambience was great but the food was too salty. We ordered the rotisserie chicken and wood-grilled hanger steak but they were both too salty. Even the mashed potatoes was too salty. Disappointed."

  • "The food and service here is wonderful. They make you feel welcome and taken care of from start to finish. The only available reservation was for 8:45pm, which was late for us. I called ahead to see if we could get in earlier or at least come in to have a drink while we waited. They told us there was a couch area where we could wait and have a drink. We showed up, the hostess took our drink order and by the time our drinks were ready she was able to seat us due to a cancellation. The service overall was very high-end and professional and the food was amazing. Our favorite were the fried pork pate stuffed olives."

  • "We were at Firehouse Restaurant in October of 2013. It was highly recommended to us by the AirBNB woman we were staying with, but we left feeling like it was probably just her best recommendation among other mediocre restaurants. The atmosphere is really adorable. However, as a place known for their pizza, it was pretty disappointing- mostly in that the crust was exremely soggy and the topping all slipped right off. No way your pizza's going to be good with soggy crust. I will say that my side of veggies in tomato sauce was really delicious, but that's the only dish we enjoyed that evening."

  • "We went on a Monday during March's Dining Month. I ended up just getting a salad and pizza (vs the 3 courses). Salad was very Caesar-like and really hit the spot. I could've eaten three more! I got the sausage pizza and loved it. Ate the whole thing. Thus is a really great place!"

  • "My husband and I had a pleasant dinner out in this neighborhood restaurant. We had heard good things and looked forward to the experience. Seating was prompt, service was right on and the mussels and flat iron steaks we had for entrees, very good."

  • "Picked this place for PDX Dining month - super fantastic menu. Wine selection is good, wait staff can pair very well with your dinner. Definitely going back for dinner!"

  • "I really enjoy this restaurant. The atmosphere is lovely - casual, dark and cozy. The open kitchen with the wood burning oven is great. The starters, salads and entrees are wonderful. I have only one issue, their pizza has all the components of a great wood-fired pizza, smoky flavor, quality toppings and cheese, flavorful sauce, and crust that has great texture on the outside edge. BUT, they go a little overboard with the amount of sauce or maybe sauce and cheese. The result is that both pizzas we had at our table were so soggy in the middle that were had to eat them with forks, there was no way to pick up a slice. I like my pizza crisp on the bottom all the way through. I would have given the food 4 or 5 stars except for that issue."

  • "I don't eat there often, but every meal I've had at the Firehouse has been tasty and well-prepared and the prices are reasonable. The restaurant has great ambience and the servers are very friendly, although service can be a little slow at times. There's plenty of outdoor seating, and a great patio, too, weather-permitting."

  • "Knew about this place a while ago, then saw it on portland dining month so wanted to try it. Turns out they've been offering a similar discounted dining experience for a while, and do it year 'round! Very cool! Amazing food, very knowledgeable waitress in regards to the wine and food selections. Reservation was honored on time and service was fairly quick. We were there through closing time and service definitely slowed down at that point, but it was nice and casual and we really appreciated not feeling like we were rushed out the door. A really great dining experience, and we'll definitely be back!!!"

  • "Just returned from Italy and the food experience mirrored restaurants there. We had arancini, beet salad, two different garden salads that were each unique and delicious. For entrees, we had skirt steak that had a wonderful marinade which gave it a wonderful flavor and also bouillabaisse which was quite good. Next time we will definitely having a pizza/pasta combo. The wine list had many Italian wine choices at reasonable prices."

  • "Our overall experience, as well as the food... very disappointing. We arrived to find the available menu quite different from the menu online, and they were out of the fish and the chicken. We were told this by our server without apology. I decided to forgo the Dining Month 3-course meal and order a salad and pizza. The salad was nothing special, a basic caesar without the benefit of any croutons. The pizza arrived lukewarm, and the top watery. I much prefer Ken's. My friend had an unremarkable pasta dish. I have dined here several times over the years; this place was unique in the neighborhood the first few years it was open. With so many tempting choices available in NE Portland, I wish I had spent my time and money elsewhere."

  • "We enjoyed a 3 course meal that included an appetizer, salad & entree for $29 during Portland dining month. The Bruschetta with pickled fennel was very good but the cod fritters didn't have much flavor. The steak frites was outstanding & the pasta with pork sugo was very good. The salad was over dressed. We added dessert & the pot de creme was wonderful but I didn't like the ice cream cake. The service was excellent but the drinks were weak."

  • "Been hearing good things about this place and finally made it a point to try it out with my fiance. Made a reservation through Open Table, were seated the minute we walked in. Brought our own wine, $15 corkage not bad. Fried cauliflower was awesome, as were the bruschetta and braised kale. Had the margarita pizza, wood fired and excellent. Also had the rotisserie chicken which was delicious, crispy skin, juicy meat, bone in (which I like) so you could eat like a barbarian. Had the ice cream cake dessert which was amazing. Overall great food, prompt service, and great value (I think the most expensive entre was around $18). Dining room a bit cramped, which is forgivable, and the atmosphere is definitely loud and lively."

  • "Plan ahead and make a reservation to eat at Firehouse....it's not a place you can pop into and expect to get a seat. I'm so glad we recently remembered to make a reservation! Had a wonderful meal! The pizza Bianca is to die for. I had an Italian Greyhound to drink and the fresh squeezed grapefruit juice made bright and delicious! We really enjoyed our meal and will make another reservation soon!"
