FireflyDon't need to think any furtherFun, delicious, tasty little ... Firefly! Food is interesting without pretension but remembers very well that the point of the exercise is always scrumptiousness and everything we had was awesome. One of those places that you will return to just to try the remaining dishes based on the strength of the ones you ordered. And good value, not overpriced. Good wine and service too. Just do it.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love the amibance and atmosphereWe love the amibance and atmosphere - so charming!
I must say we enjoyed our starters more than our entrees, but interesting menu.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSimple food, amazingly executedDishes like fried chicken and braised lamb don't sound exciting, but at Firefly everything was nothing short of outstanding. You will find yourself wanting to come back every week just to see what they've done next.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AM15th Anniversary OutingWe celebrated our 15th anniversary at Firefly. The food was delectable. I had the special warm squid salad, braised lamb, and lime cheesecake, and a glass of Prosecco. My husband had the arugula salad, roasted chicken, and a Prosecco and a rye ale. The service was outstanding. They saw that I was 8 months pregnant and gave us a table with pillows. They waited to clear plates until we were finished between every course. And, they comped our Prosecco for our anniversary. Great experience. We've already recommended on Facebook, and to multiple foodie friends.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Place For A DateFirefly is conveniently located in Noe Valley. You could take MUNI if you wanted to, either the 48 which drops you right there or the J Church which stops about 8 blocks away on 24th. There is also plenty of parking on the side streets which is a big plus.
The menu is incredibly diverse with a little something for everyone. Whether they're vegetarian or a foodie Firefly will satisfy. The offerings are up to date and incredibly creative. I had rock cod and mussels, it was absolutely perfect. The portion sizes aren't huge but they will fill you up just right. The bread came with some spread of the day, I can't even remember the name. I know this, it wasn't butter! It is small but has a nice romantic feel to it. I definitely will return.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGastro delight in casual settingWe were told to go on a Tuesday because that was when you could get the best fried chicken in the world - this was no word of a lie!
Desserts were to die for - my son said the rice pudding was the best he had ever tasted. Staff were helpful, friendly and knowledgeable - even the chef came out to say hello and gave us a free tasting of soup when he discovered we were on holiday from England. We enjoyed the experience so much we have booked again for our final night in San Francisco. Just wish we had a Firefly in England!5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently a top valueThe food is fresh, inventive, and healthy. It never disappoints. My only complaint is that it's hard to get into and you always need a reservation on any nigh of the week. Nice wine list too. The menu changes with the seasons, but a perennial favorite is the pot stickers. All the desserts are good because they are not too sweet.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMYet another excellent experienceWe have been coming to Firefly regularly for almost 8 years and we have had a great experience every single time. From the wait staff to the food, the wine, and the dessert, everything was fantastic. Thank you.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMStill hanging in there. My wife and I spent another pleasant evening at Firefly. The food was excellent as always. They have some new servers. Ours did well serving (they halp each other), but made a mistake on the check, but that is for us to verify always anyway.
We just feel good after having dinner there, and recommend it to all of our friends. It is also where we go when we want to impress someone.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSome of the best food of my life! The avocado with sprouted quinoa was a peak culinary experience for me. I am not a quinoa fan, and if I had realized it had quinoa in it, I would not have ordered it. Put this was different. It was nutty and crunchy and until I looked again at the menu I was clueless about what I was eating. The avocado was perfect too. For my entree, I had the special--skirt steak, with a balsamic sauce. It sat on a smash of potatoes and perhaps something else. It was outstanding. I couldn't finish it and had it for lunch the next day. Just as good the second time around.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this neighborhood gemWe check the menu every time we walk by to see what they are cooking. Select for a special occasion. Weekday fixed price menu is good value ($35) for three courses. We are vegetarians but tend to bring our non-vegetarians here. Menu is limited but interesting, always changing and always fresh. Very nice staff and service.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful fresh foodWe are from out of town and found the place via open table. We were so pleased with everything from the service to the delicious food.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA serendipitous discoveryGreat food and very personable people at this place! I'm very glad to have found this gem in Noe Valley and will be heading back there for special events...5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways great!Firefly is consistently excellent, with well-executed and imaginative food and attentive, professional service.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOur favorite spot!We come to the Firefly every time we are in San Francisco. It is absolutely our favorite dining spot. The food is very fresh and carefully prepared. We highly recommend it.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing pork shoulderWent on a sunday night, was still lively. The food was amazing, staff friendly and cool atmosphere. The menu constantly changes and there is a $38 fixed price 3 course menu, which allowed you to choose from their latest selection of dishes. The pork shoulder was the highlight of the night. Literally melted in the mouth. Good selection of wine and ales to go with the meal too. Would highly recommend to my friends.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal and warm, efficientlyGreat meal and warm, efficiently attentive service. We have heard friends rave about this restaurant in our neighborhood but hadn't been there in years--our loss. We tried several different menu items, from the rock cod with mussels to steak, the dumplings to the avocado salad, and everything was tasty, fresh and satisfying. Our whole group enjoyed it and we'll be back for sure.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFirefly has never failed toFirefly has never failed to produce an excellent dining out experience. We arrived early (first couple there), and ordered an apperitif while we perused the menu. We took longer than we would normally partly because there we couldn't choose from the selection of first course and entrees. We eventually settled on the braised pork shoulder and skirt steak, as well as a couple of salads and a bottle of cab franc from napa. Excellent meal. We never felt rushed, even though we were there for almost 2 hours. We also had dessert and coffee.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDelish and delightfuleverything about Firefly was awesome. The food was SO GOOD (I had the fish), the service was lovely and efficient, the wine was perfect, dessert yum. And reasonable! I love it.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMA great treat in Noe Valley, SFFirefly is a very special restaurant. Great ambiance, great service, and sumptuous, mouth-watering food. There is no weak link here. They have a great wine list, with pairing recommendations. Seasonally changing menus, and deserts from heaven. Really inventive appetizers too, including shrimp and scallop pot stickers that will make you want to savor every bite. They do seafood and meats well, but they also cater to the vegetarian crowd. Tuesdays they have their famous fried chicken, succulent and spicy, with mashed taters, carrots and one of the best buttermilk biscuits I have ever had, served with butter & honey. All the ingredients are thought out well to partner with other tastes on the plate. One of my favorite SF restaurants. Period.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMImpresses my cousinTook my cousin and her husband from Austin Texas on Monday night. They raved about the food. The service was excellent as always. I just feel good when I go to Firefly.
And they paid for the meal.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeAs usual everything was awesome! Our waitress was fantastic and turned us on to a wine we had not before!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMSF hidden gem: Great staff,SF hidden gem:
Great staff, friendly, knowledgable, non-pretentious, and excellent food.
Great wines, delicious deserts, and chill atmosphere has this place tied for
first in place with Chez Pannise.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThank you to Firefly for lettingThank you to Firefly for letting our group stay way past closing. We were celebrating a dear friend's passing and Firefly was her favorite restaurant, notably one of the reasons -besides the amazing food--was because of their warm hospitality.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFour of us were at FireflyFour of us were at Firefly on Sunday evening. We enjoyed the fixed price menu, unusual because it's possible to pick any appetizer, entree, and dessert. No restrictions--a very nice touch. The food was fine, every course. Service cordial and professional. It is a "neighborhood place," with diners from all over the area. They treat small children with respect and are respected in return. Our only regret: the always succulent fried chicken was unavailable, now a Tuesday evening specialty. We'll be back for that.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMNeighborhood healthy comfort foodI have eaten at Firefly twice and both times been very pleased. The food is good and the service is attentive and friendly. The ambiance is cozy and the food is comforting and flavorful.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a fantastic diningIt was a fantastic dining expeience. We were celebrating a memorable wedding anniversary and found the perfect spot. Everyone from the host to the serving staff made us feel like royalty. We are accustomed to fine dining and this was as good as it gets!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good experience. A coupleVery good experience. A couple of minor complaints. My friend and I ordered a green salad to share. However, they brought us the salad on one, instead of two plates. Also, we had to refill our own wine glasses, something we shouldn't have to do, particularly with a $60 bottle of wine.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat! My party loved everything about Firefly. From the warm bread with garbanzo bean spread they bring to start to the dessert. We had the vanilla bean salad to start; very interesting flavors. For entrees we had the skirt steak, the flank steak special, and the oyster mushroom panisse. Everyone was very happy with their dishes. My mushroom panisse was a really great vegetarian option; something a little different with plenty of flavor. We had a hard time settling on just one dessert, but we were so full we went for just the fromage blanc mousse with strawberry buttermilk ice cream. Again, we were not disappointed. This was a great combination of flavors. We loved Firefly.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love the fried chickenWe love the fried chicken featured on Tuesday nights!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThree of us each had differentThree of us each had different meals. Would go back next time in the Bay Area in a heartbeat.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFirefly has been a superbFirefly has been a superb restaurant for many years. So glad to see that the level of service and exquisite food is still part of Firefly's charm and appeal. The chef is quite skilled at putting together a fantastic and unique menu selection, (the menu changes weekly) and the meals themselves, wonderful!! I highly recommend this restaurant! BTW, whatever your preference (omnivore, vegetarian) there are enough menu options so all will be happy they chose Firefly.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMJust the best - so thankfulJust the best - so thankful great little gems like this stand the test of time! The server was courteous and helpful explaining the menu items. The wine list is limited but had some great selections. The food was excellent and the chocolate dessert was rich and delicious. The prices are reasonable, about $350 for six for dinner and wine.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMI have never been disappointedI have never been disappointed with Firefly and tonight was no exception. The food was very good, portions generous without being too much and the service was excellent. Except for a pair of "free-range" children running around, who were well behaved, all in all, but were a bit of a distraction, it was an excellent experience.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was very good; serviceFood was very good; service was good and waitress was knowledgeable. We were there for the Passover menu and the waitress was great at explaining items that some in my party weren't familiar with.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always have a great timeWe always have a great time here. With two young children we don't get out much but when we do we love firefly. Delectable food and a lovely wine list.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMNot just for Passover! Our traditional Passover place. The lamb with fava beans and their greens was absolutely magnificent.
We came a bit before 6 p.m. and the place was quite quiet but by the time we left at 7:30 or so it was becoming noisier.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMComfortable intimate atmosphere. UComfortable intimate atmosphere.
Unique, Kosher-for-Passover, well prepared, local-vegetable-centric menu.
Friendly, profesional service.
Pricey. Appetizers were small but entrees were more generous.
Overall, one of SF's better neighborhood eateries.
Recommended.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMStill getting top marks, every timeI think these guys produce the best "special weeknight dinner" in town. They're food is not overly prepared or precious but the flavors are always intense and the presentation enticing. They use a lot of vegetables in their cooking -- like the lollipop kale I had on this visit -- and let those flavors command the plate rather than a complete obsession with the proteins. Service-wise, I really love these guys. Friendly, knowledgeable and totally committed to your dining experience. Also, I think they come in high on the scale of value (price to cost). Sumptious well-portioned food a reasonable tariff.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went to Firefly based onWe went to Firefly based on the reviews on OpenTable and we concur with all of the positive reviews. The food and service were outstanding. The prix fixe dinner is a great bargain!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFirefly is consistently fantastic!!Firefly is consistently fantastic!! You can drive right past it without knowing it was there. The food was very good. I had the Pork Shoulder and my wife had the prawns. For appetizers we shared the pot stickers which were amazing.
The vibe is comfortable but the tables are a bit too close to each other - that would be my only complaint.
Overall, we liked it and will be back.1/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous dining experience.Fabulous dining experience.
