Diner Reviews
  • "My experiences at Firefly have always been like being welcomed by an old friend. The interior is comfortable and a bit rustic, similar to being invited to dinner at a friend's neighborhood home. Luckily, they had their famous fried chicken on the menu that evening, and it was a good as I remember from previous occasions (and only by ordering the fried chicken will you get one of their scrumptious biscuits, complete with its own little saucer of butter and honey). I'll be back again."

  • "The host is incredibly rude. I called before to inform them that I would be late and asked if I could move to a later reservation. They were unable to move us so I informed them that I would be a little late. I arrived 20 minutes after my reservation and they gave our table away. It was not crowded at all. I asked the host if the table was given away to someone with a later reservation in the hopes that a table would open up shortly. The host told me that he "gave the table to someone that wanted to eat," reminding me that I arrived 20 minutes late. Rude. We waited for another 20 minutes and we were seated. The whole thing was unnecessary. We got appetizers and they were salty, unimpressive, and overpriced. We decided to leave."

  • "Firefly is an elegant, out of the way neighborhood restaurant that shines well above its location! It is a gem and the wait staff as well as the kitchen were helpful about my dietary requirements, giving me several options [I am a vegan who can't eat tomatoes]. We have gone there several times. Last year in November and then Friday-simply the best and one of my favorites. it is a rare gem that can accommodate a vegan and a carnivore with variety for both!"

  • "I got there 30 minutes early, they seated me early so I had a great glass of wine and the delicious pot stickers to start. Then I jumped into a great glass of sauvignon blanc and had the halibut. Everything was yummy! The staff was sweet, knowledgeable and very patient (I can be a pill sometimes). Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Firefly has been around for a really long time, and it's always innovative, fresh, scrumptious, and with a charming cozy vibe."

  • "Always a great meal with friendly staff. The manager/host is not always smiling and seems angry/ too busy, but after you're seated you never have to deal with him. Always worth the wait."

  • "Fire Fly is very good, service, food and ambiance was very good, pricing is a bit off and only reason for 4 and not 5 star,"

  • "Fried chicken to die for? It was really good certainly in the top three in my experience in the USA. But the kale salad was the best I haver ever had....a neighborhood gem indeed"

  • "The servers are all terrific and seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs. The appetizers are all interesting-to-adventurous, the menu changes often but maintains a couple of old standbys. Do NOT miss the fried chicken. We recently had our 29th anniversary at Firefly, which I had mentioned in the reservation process, so they covered our drinks! It was very nice to be treated so politely by management and staff. We will return over and over again. MW"

  • "I've been in the neighborhood a while and have visited Firefly a few times over the years. I was a little disappointed this time. The wine we had was wonderful and the asparagus and farro salad was delicious. The beet salad was boring and my spearfish entree was poorly executed (overcooked) and bland. My companions both had the fried chicken, which they seemed to enjoy. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but given the brevity of the menu, I expect everything to be a good choice. Given all that, I would still recommend Firefly, but maybe take more time to get the waiter's opinions of the options before ordering."

  • "We love Firefly. They always have something for the vegans, so it's a good place to go when you have vegan diners eating with non vegans. I had a fabulous crispy quinoa cake with perfectly cooked vegetables. The salad was also delicious - perfectly dressed. I love Firefly."

  • "Two of use in a group of 6 are gluten intolerant, and we all had lovely dinners. I had the swampy kale gumbo (which wasn't what I would call gumbo, but delicious none-the-less). My friend had the fried chicken with GF cornbread. The waiter was knowledgable and helpful about navigating the menu, and the food wasn't a compromise (Unlike the all-too common "oh, you can have the salad. And the...salad.") I, for one, am now a Firefly Fan (though next time I may succumb to the temptation to go dressed as Kaylee :)."

  • "My husband and I bring visiting friends and family here whenever possible. Great, inviting ambiance and consistently fabulous food and service is what brings us back time and time again. It is comfortably classy yet maintains a down-to-earth feel. Always happy to patronize this restaurant."

  • "We ordered the Ono fish, mahi mahi and pork. The last two were very tasty and used some creative combinations. Unfortunately, the Hawaiian Ono couldn't keep up and was a bit too salty. The waitress was very solicitous and apologetic and she comp'd us a dessert. Overall, we enjoyed the experience!"

  • "To me this restaurant is overrated. My fish was overcooked and my friends pork shoulder was almost cold.....The combination of ingredients was interesting & ambitious although the outcome less than stellar. Overpriced for decent food......they seem to have lost their way."

  • "Food is consistent, service is good, the orders from the kitchen a little much, they asked the servers to advice us that there are no substitutions, however they did accommodate one change for my 8 year old, after all she ordered a regular dinner. It is a little pricey and the place starts to look a little off-date, but we still like it and had a great time, they don't rush you to get out and you can have a nice pace meal and enjoy the company and a great meal."

  • "Excellent food and service. All three of us ordered two appetizers as small plates and shared tastes. Wonderful desserts. All in all a very pleasant and enjoyable dinner. Firefly is still a great restaurant after all these years. Never disappointed and pleased by new items and preparations."

  • "I had made our reservation almost 2 weeks ago. However, we were offered one end of a communal table or 2 single tables attached together. The fact this, you dont feel special in a communal table or made-of-table, not when you reserved beforehand. I liked my beef but neither my husband nor his father liked their chicken: the inside was not cooked enough for their opinion. My mother in law, who also ordered stew; liked it but thought it was too small. Indeed, it looked 1/3 of the chicken. I was fine since i love your spread and bread; but the guys also thought it was way too little of a portion. But, many thanks for the birthday jest in the end: even i had forgotten that i had made a note for it: but the staff remembered :) Thank you so much!"

  • "excellent on all counts, as usual. I've yet to have a bad experience at Firefly."

  • "Our trio knew we could order boldly -- the food is always thought through with knowledge, imagination and skill. Dishes are balanced and fully realized. Ingredients are fresh and high-quality, their use inspirational and varied. As usual, we ordered prix fixe and shared, however crass that may be. Everything was excellent and rewarding (yummy brussels sprouts). The desserts were delicious but we are not fans of this presentation -- the smears, dabs and spread-out ingredients. Pretty but hard to appreciate all the tastes and textures. The service was, as always, very professional and thoughtful without being intrusive -- so important. The reservations system works reliably well. Thank you!"

  • "After the great experience first time around we took some friends to Firefly. They had changed the menu (they make changes every week per our server) and the selections were still very interesting. Food was outstanding - flavorful and very well prepared. Excellent restaurant! We will be back!"

Everyone enjoyed their meals and the restaurant very much. The staff was nice, helpful, and very attentive. I will keep firefly on the top of my list for group dinners."

  • "Ticked away way up on 24thst, firefly has bee a neighborhood spot for over 20 years. The menus, which now has many vegetarian options, with lots of Mediterranean twists, is dynamite. The wine list is varied and reasonably priced. All around good fun."

  • "My girlfriend and I always remark how we do not go to Firefly enough. They always have later times available on OpenTable. The service is top notch and the food is always delicious and inventive. Next time we won't let so much time pass between visits! Highly recommended."

  • "We arrived 15-20 minutes ahead of our reservation time & were told that our table for 4 would be ready shortly. 45 minutes later we were seated after having watched later arrivals being seated first. No explanation or apology was given for the wait."

  • "The menu was very creative and tempting. The bread was served with a pea spread that was excellent. The onion and green garlic soup with chile oil had the perfect amount of smoky and hot. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and the chicken was very flavorful. We will need to go back to try the other items!"

  • "The good: We had a great evening at Fireside. The place is really sweet with tasteful decoration. The service was superb and right for the venue, knowledgeable, genuine, and very friendly. The food was good and the menu thankfully short yet comprehensive and suitably delectable. The ambience was nice and cosy. The food was pretty good, but could use a refresher on attention to detail. Need to fix: My partner had such a good evening that she waited for the uber home to tell me the tuna entrée was so perfectly cooked but was actually very dry like it'd been resting for ages or in the freezer too long. The espresso machine was broken. "Grrrr" Pro tip: Go early! Quote of the night "mmmmm Potstickers""

  • "We ordered the pork shoulder, sea bass, and steak dinners. The hummus with paprika and sea salt was bland but the bread was great. The ceviche was good, the chestnut and parsnip soup needed more parsnip and seasoning, and the potato/pea crepe was bland. The meat in all cases was cooked perfectly, however the pork and steak were bland with only a hint of pepper. My pork was accompanied by white beans and veggies. The veggies were pickled, actually nearly all of the veggies were pickled (maybe the pickle juice spread to the other veggies) which was fine for one of our group who likes pickled things. It was not pleasant for the rest of us. My friend loved the sea bass. Desert all around was good."

  • "This place is sometimes very good but sometimes falls short of its pretensions. Recently my wife ordered a mushroom ragu which she greatly enjoyed. I ordered Mary's roast chicken which was OK but part of my reason for ordering it was the promised flatbread accompaniment. As served the "flatbread" was a few strips of pita with some grill marks. I won't be returning any time soon."
