The food was amazing, staff friendly and cool atmosphere. The menu constantly changes and there is a $38 fixed price 3 course menu, which allowed you to choose from their latest selection of dishes. The pork shoulder was the highlight of the night. Literally melted in the mouth. Good selection of wine and ales to go with the meal too. They have a great wine list, with pairing recommendations. Seasonally changing menus, and deserts from heaven. Really inventive appetizers too, including shrimp and scallop pot stickers that will make you want to savor every bite. They do seafood and meats well, but they also cater to the vegetarian crowd. Tuesdays they have their famous fried chicken, succulent and spicy, with mashed taters, carrots and one of the best buttermilk biscuits I have ever had, served with butter & honey. All the ingredients are thought out well to partner with other tastes on the plate. One of my favorite SF restaurants. We enjoyed the fixed price menu, unusual because it's possible to pick any appetizer, entree, and dessert. No restrictions--a very nice touch. The food was fine, every course. Service cordial and professional. It is a "neighborhood place," with diners from all over the area. They treat small children with respect and are respected in return. Our only regret: the always succulent fried chicken was unavailable, now a Tuesday evening specialty. From the warm bread with garbanzo bean spread they bring to start to the dessert. We had the vanilla bean salad to start; very interesting flavors. For entrees we had the skirt steak, the flank steak special, and the oyster mushroom panisse. Everyone was very happy with their dishes. My mushroom panisse was a really great vegetarian option; something a little different with plenty of flavor. We had a hard time settling on just one dessert, but we were so full we went for just the fromage blanc mousse with strawberry buttermilk ice cream. Again, we were not disappointed. This was a great combination of flavors. So glad to see that the level of service and exquisite food is still part of Firefly's charm and appeal. They're food is not overly prepared or precious but the flavors are always intense and the presentation enticing. They use a lot of vegetables in their cooking -- like the lollipop kale I had on this visit -- and let those flavors command the plate rather than a complete obsession with the proteins. Service-wise, I really love these guys. Friendly, knowledgeable and totally committed to your dining experience. Also, I think they come in high on the scale of value (price to cost).
