Had a late lunch and the restaurant was fairly empty. Ordered appetizers. Fifteen minutes later ordered salads and entree. Appetizers and salads arrived at same time. Saw that entrees sat waiting to be delivered for ten minutes. Waiters no where to be found. Came back after the meal was complete to see if everything was satisfactory. Too little to late.

My second visit here and we love it! The burgers are delicious: perfectly cooked, juicy, and I LOVE the pretzel bun! Pizza wasn't very good, unfortunately, but the garlic fries were delicious. They also had a great selection of local, craft beers. Love that! Service was very friendly and efficient. One request: please have yellow mustard available. Was very puzzled to find out the restaurant had no yellow mustard, only dijon, especially when more than one burger is on the menu. Why no yellow mustard?? Other wise, look forward to another visit in the future.

We had only been to Firefly one previous time which was for lunch. We decided to drive down from Champaign for my wife's birthday. We did a tasting menu with no input from us whatsoever. I was very happy with the food, the service, the wine and the price. All in all, this was a very good dining experience. If I didn't live so far away, I would come back frequently. Even so, we will be back.

While the food was good and certainly the menu presented many interesting options, the noise level of the main restaurant was uncomfortable. We've dined at Firefly several times, and in fact it has been a destination restaurant for us. That said, we're no longer in a hurry to go back. While many of the menu items are considered premium, so are the prices.

Anytime I drive through Illinois, I make it a point to stop here! They never EVER disappoint. From the service, to the food to the drinks to the ambiance.... It is like coming home every time. The pizza is out of this world good. We had an assortment of appetizers also and could honestly not pick a favorite. Crab purses, dim sum which to choose? Thank you!

I asked for a substitute for my accompaniment with my entrée & was told no. My husband's steak though flavorful was tough. We were prepared for the prices but were not prepared for the less than excellent food and service. It was our 30th anniversary and we would have liked a little more intimate setting not elbow to elbow with strangers. When I made the reservations I said it was our anniversary and we told the waiter when he seated us. One thing that was excellent (and the reason the waiter received a sizeable tip) was his attentiveness to my husband's nut allergies. THAT was awesome, but no we won't be back for diner and we won't recommend. Sorry.

Very disappointed this time. The service was great but the food was way overpriced for the boring quality and taste. Ordered the scallops and received 4 medium scallops that were bland and boring for over $30. Wanted to order the ribeye but it was $65!!! This is more than St. Elmo's in Indy. Will not be back anytime soon.

We were in town for just one night ... after reading the reviews decided we had to try Firefly! It was dark and raining hard, so we can't speak for the views and outside dining ... but the food and service were perfect. A great wine list, reasonably priced. My wife had the salad and I tried the fried green tomatoes and corn, which was excellent. We both decided on the halibut entree, a great choice. Perfectly prepared, not undercooked or too dry, and served with exquisite ravioli ... a meal that would compare favorably to one at some of the finer big city restaurants. We even shared a dessert, the brownie with accompaniments added table side. A huge thanks for a great meal!

This is our third time at the Fireside Grill. We initially found it by accident on our way back to Ohio from a trip out west. They have a great selection of wines, buy locally raised chicken and beef and have their own gardens for fresh produce. The food is creatively prepared and wonderful. The wait staff is attentive, but not overly so. They have a closed in porch that sits over a lake. This is a beautiful place to enjoy a meal and watch the weather or the night sky. The inside of the restaurant is candle lit and intimate.

The view of the pond and fish make for a good scenic water view especially in central Illinois farmland. The vegetable gardens are beautiful and knowing how fresh your vegetables are is fabulous. The service is impeccable and the food is among the highest quality 5-star restaurants I have ever been and I enjoy fine dining. We live near Chicago where fine dining is critical and the choices are many. Cooked to order, even deserts like the Molten Lava cake with homemade blackberry ice cream make every bite a pleasant surprise. My only regret is that I only make it to Effingham about three times a year. I never miss dining at Firefly when in Effingham.

This place is very nice, especially because it's right off the road in Effingham. The food is good, but over the past year, they have taken business cost-saving measures a little too far. Not only have their prices risen to, or higher than a comparable restaurant in St. Louis or Chicago, but they stopped having good bread, which is always a hallmark to me of a fine restaurant. They used to serve warm popovers, which were great. They turned to loaves of bread, served on a cutting board for the customer to cut themselves. The bread was good, but alas, only a dull knife was laid with the bread! Now the bread is lackluster. We often travel between St. Louis and Chicago, but we're no longer compelled to go past Effingham to visit Firefly.

Finding a restaurant of this caliber at an interchange of two major highways is very unusual. Surrounded by chain restaurants and hotels, Firefly stands out as a gem for foodies on the road. We enjoyed the shortribs and the fried chicken with sweet corn vichysoisse. The wedge salad with the in-house made blue cheese was wonderful and easily shared. The wine list is exceptional albeit a bit pricey. Before ordering a glass for each, compare the price to the bottle as it was just a few dollars more. Firefly has its own garden and uses mostly locally grown and raised ingredients in its menu. We would go back in a heartbeat.

We started out with the Fried green tomatoes and the tomato and fresh mozzarella salad both were outstanding. Our next courses were the Braised Short Ribs and Pan seared Flank Steak which looked more like a Filet Mignon and ate like it as well. Again tops . We finished with the Tiramasu and believe it or not a chopped salad. Over the top again. Prices reflected the quality of the food. This was just a huge treat. The menu was exciting and hard to make a choice and would dare to say that every entrée would be as well as the next.

My husband and I traveled 3 hours from our Chicagoland home for the specific purpose of dining at the Firefly Grill. I had read about it some time back and put it on my bucket list. It is rare that the experience exceeds the anticipation but Firefly Grill did not disappoint. The menu reflects a great deal of their farm to table philosophy. We brought guests to join us for this delightful 'field trip' and they were as pleased as we were. We'll remember this visit for a very long time and will recommend the Firefly Grill with four enthusiastic thumbs up!
