Firefly - DCNot a place for quiet conversationGreat food. Attentive service. Charming, hip ambiance. Firefly needs to do something about the noise level. Either that, or customers shouldn't go if they are expecting to have a quiet conversation. I had to strain to hear my dining companions all night.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice dining experienceA goat and grits special melted in my mouth.
Thoughtful (though quirky) kids menu, including having the kids decorate their own cookies.
A nice quiet ambience.
Definitely would recommend for a nice family meal vacationing n DC.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMClassy Urban Fun and FoodMothers' Day brunch reception, service and food all terrific.
Appreciate the full staffing (reception, wait-staff, etc) that makes for quick seating and timely delivery of food.
Food always unique in some way and super tasty.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, prices, and company!I came with a brunch group on Saturday around 12:30 and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. This is my 4th time in as many months having brunch there, and I've never been disappointed. From the moment I walked in the door the hostesses were very welcoming and upbeat, checking me in for my reservation even though my whole party wasn't there. After half of us arrived we were seated and the server immediately came by with coffee and told us about Firefly's weekend special of $2 mimosas.
The food was excellent, I got the sausage gravy and biscuits with thyme and bacon on the side. French toast is great too and 3 people ordered (and loved!) the "Snake Eyes" meal with the eggs on the toast!
Thanks to everyone at Firefly for a great brunch!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dining experience! We had great time at Firefly, great food and great service, the wait staff was extremely efficient and they were there with what you needed without asking, this place has very intimate and cozy ambiance.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDid not check out the wineDid not check out the wine list and it was raining when we were there so won't comment on those. The food was wonderful the serve could not have better.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience again!Loved all the food we got, the pimento cheese balls were killer to start, kale salad had great dressing, and the special was a souveed pork chop that was just amazing. Service was top notch, thanks to Kathy!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGem!Excellent ambiance beautiful restaurant. Very noisy but I think that was because there were just a few loud tables giving the rest a bad rap. The gnocchi is excellent! Beautiful decor! Service is superior5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious comfort foodFirefly has delicious, comfort food to feed the soul! The atmosphere is very lively and a great place for small groups to dine, at a table or the bar area. The decor is delightful and cozy, with a giant tree in the middle of the restaurant with "roots" and "branches" that extend throughout the restaurant. I'd recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious meal, that is well portioned and served quickly.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMSo SoVery trendy bar scene and great sounding menu. Decor is a super cool tree/ wood theme, bar is trendy and busy but the food was very expensive and not good at all. I ordered some deep fried cheese balls that when presented were plated to look amazing, but I sent them back because they were frozen inside. I also got a lettuce wedge which didn't taste fresh.. The lettuce tasted bitter like it was about to spoil and finally my husband got risotto ... He said it was good but wasn't the best he's ever had and for $27 it should have been amazing... After all $27 for some rice is expensive. Bottom line... Go for the bar scene, don't go for the food.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMBook it!This was the second time I went for dinner and it proved that the first time was not a fluke. This place has outstanding food. My wiffe had the pot roast which she said was fabulous and that's high praise considering she set her grandmother's recipie as the ba--which is a high one. Fun atmosphere and great farm to table menu. Don't overlook the deviled eggs as an appetizer--they were a great start to a fun dinner.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat brunch and awesome specialsGreat brunch and awesome specials on mimosas! Will definitely come back!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMProfessional ServiceService was excellent and very professional. The food was exciting, creative, and had great flavor profiles. Will certainly return.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMRight around the corner fromRight around the corner from where I live and I really appreciate a restaurant opening at 9:00AM opposed to 11:00AM! Breakfast was fantastic and the ambience is delightful.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFirefly provides a fantasticFirefly provides a fantastic restaurant experience every time I'm there. The food is delicious; they're always updating their menu to highlight new seasonal dishes, the cocktail menu is innovative, and the service is always top notch. Overall we had an amazing dinner and we were impressed, as always, with the Firefly experience.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWould definitely return whenWould definitely return when back in DC. A wonderful experience.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMVenue is small; no parking;Venue is small; no parking; no valet. It's good for neighborhood or if you are already there doing some activity. The service was excellent, and that went a long way, as the menu is not extensive. It's an upscale cafe.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAtmosphere is great, serviceAtmosphere is great, service is wonderful, food is not really for those that enjoy typical "American" fare. Most menu options are eccentric/trendy dishes. The hamburger was delicious but the french fries were saturated in garlic and only tasted of garlic. If you are with a group that enjoys trying new things or the latest trend in food, then a great place for any meal! If you enjoy typical American cuisine, then there isn't much to choose from. Servers are great though and likely could accommodate if you are specific in your request.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFirefly - bright spot in DC!Though we've dined at Firefly before, this was our first time back in a couple of years. Construction in the neighborhood makes parking tough - not the fault of the restaurant - just leave yourself extra time.
Upon arrival, the bartenders were attentive and courteous. The gentleman behind the bar mixed the best Manhattan I've ever enjoyed. We did not have the chance to finish our drinks before our table was ready (a good thing - short wait). The waiter seemed knowledgeable, if not somewhat rehearsed. The restaurant is cozy to begin with, so adding the already crowded conditions made it seem a little tight. The service was good to very good. Food was beautifully prepared.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMdelicous would recommend!we had a large party of 6 and dinner was very nice as well as the staff. Everyone enjoyed their meal! Breakfast good too. very good organic eggs.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThey accommodated us nicelyThey accommodated us nicely when we showed up as 9 instead of 6. Two LOVED the pork cheek stroganoff, and 2 very much liked the pot roast. One overdone burger was the only clinker. Noise is a problem in the restaurant, but it shouldn't prevent you from going. Highly recommend.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMService is outstanding. FoodService is outstanding. Food was excellent. Prices moderately high.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGood ambiance. While it is definitely a business lunch crowd, the menu choices were great for everyone and the daughter got just enough special treatment.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFirefly was a perfect brunchFirefly was a perfect brunch spot for our group of 3. The food was great, and the decor is warm and unique. It was definitely close quarters, so those who feel claustrophobic easily should avoid dining here. Otherwise, a cozy, trendy place with unique touches and great brunch food.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMVery enjoyable family brunch! We really enjoyed our visit to Firefly. There seemed to be some confusion re: our reservation (we booked via Open Table) but that didn't stop us from being seated and served promptly. The food was wonderful and our boys enjoyed it as well. We had a lovely Easter Brunch.
If I had one suggestion, it would be to have had things taken from the table as we finished. By the end of the meal we had 4 glasses of water, 2 empty glasses from juice, 2 empty cups from coffee, 2 empty glasses from mimosas, 4 bread plates, 4 plates from our meals, 2 dishes from side orders as well as the salt/pepper & sugar dish all on the table...3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFriendly, Fun, Delicious!Vibrant, fun place with a friendly staff, great drinks and a wonderful menu. A bit on the noisy side, but that is part of the fun. Would highly recommend.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went here on a recent tripWe went here on a recent trip to DC with our 3 and 6 year old on advice from a friend. We had a double stroller that we collapsed, which the hostess gladly took into the back for us. We are big into breakfast, so we went for this brunch, which was excellent. I got the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, which were by far the best pancakes I've ever eaten. If you're a fan of lemon bars then you'll like the pancakes. My wife got the french toast, which was also amazing. A warm bread basket was brought to the table and we took advantage of $2 mimosas. The kids menu was extensive enough where both kids found something to eat. The kids also enjoyed rocking on the swing hanging from the ceiling right in front of a faux tree they have at the entrance.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AM1st Time there for Brunch.1st Time there for Brunch. First they were very flexible to move our reservation up. our server was good but we had a hard time hearing him and dessert was very slow to come out. The soups we weren't thrilled with, but the entrees were outstanding. We had the risotto which was just delicious and presented nicely. They split our entrees for easy sharing which was very thoughtful. The pork cheek stroganoff was excellent, too. So tasty and just enjoyable to the last bite. Their bread is delicious. When dessert got there, it was very yummy...the carmelized banana split. The cranberry ice cream was especially good. The atmosphere was awesome. Kiddo loved her food.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was delicious. Great food,It was delicious. The setting was great and the waiters were extremely courteous. The food was fantastic with interesting ingredient combinations and a complex flavor palate. And finally, the price was very reasonable considering the quality of food, service, and setting.
Starter: Bacon-wrapped cheese-stuffed figs
Dinners: Veggie risotto and pork tenderloin
Dessert: Banana split
All of the above items were fantastic.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMActually ate there twice....onceActually ate there twice....once for dinner which was very nice! The service was great and it had a good varied menu and wine list. The devils on horseback (dates with blue cheese wrapped in bacon) was scrumptious!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu offers a broad selectionThe menu offers a broad selection and can accommodate a vegetarian diet.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMNoise level eats away at diningA friend and I went and I had noted that previous reviews commented on how noisy the place was. That was an understatement. The noise level had a very negative effect on the entire experience. In addition, my friend and I were seated in a back room -- where all the families were put. That meant kids were constantly running around. (But the overall noise level came from the grown-ups!) I'm not sure what can be done about the noise level; it's a product of the restaurants success. Perhaps it should remove about 10 percent of its tables. The decor and style was wonderful.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic meal. DeliciousFantastic meal. Delicious meal- my favorite part was the dessert and mini cocktail pairings. Yum,3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFernando knows customer serviceExcellent customer service and lovely menu for those in the foodie world.

The pork cheek stroganoff was superb, and the crispy oysters are not to be missed.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAble to make a last minuteAble to make a last minute brunch reservation through Open Table which let us bypass a line. Had the burger and fruit bowl. Nothing fancy, but good solid presentations.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I had very differentMy wife and I had very different takes on our food. We ordered the stuffed dates (amazing!) and she had the scallops for her main and the hazelnut ice-cream sandwich for dessert. I had the corned pork tenderloin and the persimmon cheesecake. My food would have been 3 stars; there was nothing wrong with it, but nothing great either. My wife's food was great though and she would have given the place 5 stars.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMI have always wanted to goI have always wanted to go to Firefly, so I was not disappointed when I finally made it there to eat! Must try items: pot roast, truffle fries, matzoh ball soup, vespa trot cocktail, mexican firing squad cocktail. Service was attentive and the place was a lot of fun (perhaps a bit cheesy with the tree in the middle, but it works in the space- trust me!). Cons: tables a bit tight together and it can be a bit loud. Overall, I will be back!3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner was fantastic! ourDinner was fantastic! our server overheard that it was my friend's birthday and surprised us at the end of the meal with a piece of red velvet cake that had a candle in it!
