Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent Food! Each dish was a treat to enjoy. Our server however could not seem to get into the flow of the dinner at all. We waited 20 minutes for a glass of water. Another 10 minutes to be informed they could not make the drink we ordered! Really? Vodka Tonic and they were out of limes!!! we were there at 6 PM! We switched to a bottle of white wine. It was very good! But the server poured a small glass and took our bottle away and didn't bring it back for another 15 minutes! When I asked about the appetizer the look on her face was a neon sign that said "OMG I forgot the Appetizer! Other staff there were clearly on their game and with the program. The new staff needs some training before they are unleashed on paying customer!"

  • "Our server was well informed of the menu and specials of the night. Taken upon one of his recommendations, the dish (roasted chicken) could only be described as bliss. Would eat there again!"

  • "Neat ambience, and extra details like decorate-your-own cookie made this a hit with our 6 and 9 yr old. We enjoyed the good food and wine, and the kids were content decorating for awhile. The only negative is that it is quite noisy although we were sitting at a great table by the window so we were spared the brunt of that. We'd be happy to return!"

  • "I found the food good, but a little over-priced for some of the less exotic dishes and the restaurant was so noisy it was hard to carry on much of a conversation."

  • "We had been meaning to check out brunch here for a while so we made reservations. The restaurant was full when we arrived but staff was really attentive while we waited. Wait or no wait, this place was great, and the service was excellent."

  • "but noise level made it impossible to hear the person with whom I was dining; unlikely I will come back."

  • "I had matzoh ball soup followed by charcuterie. The matzoh ball soup looked and felt enough like what my mother made to give me pleasures of nostalgia. Unfortunately, the soup was 100% taste-free. When I ordered the charcuterie, I asked the waiter if it would be accompanied by a nice French bread. He said: yes. This answer was either misinformed or lying. The bread that accompanied the charcuterie was a bowl of inedible, hard-as-rock, toasted French bread. When I asked for untoasted bread, they brought me a bowl of day-old supermarket-style imitation French bread. At least, I could chew it, so I could use it if for eating the charcuterie--which was quite good. My wife was satisfied with her dishes."

  • "Was there for lunch at what appeared to be a fairly slow time. We ordered the "lightning lunch" but were there for an hour and a half. Luckily, we weren't in a hurry, but would have been in trouble had we been. We had trouble even getting our waiter to appear so that we could ask for the check. All said though, great food and I'd go back anytime, just know the "lightning lunch" doesn't get you in and out."

  • "We have dined here many times. It is a very tasty and innovative menu, always great combos. The Parmesan fries are so good, must try them. Timing was off on deluvery of our wine order, we were almost done with dinner. Waitress was not attentive, food is brought by the kitchens wait staff. Everyone is very friendly and they try hard to accommodate. Must have reservations, as it is a bit tight, sit toward the front near the big window so as not to be claustrophobic. A great place where outside dining will start soon."

  • "My husband and I were visiting the area for our 1st anniversary, and we decided to have dinner at Firefly with our cousin & his fiancee, who were recently engaged. We were received very well for our dinner reservation and seated promptly. Our waitress was very friendly and hospitable, and she surprised each of us with some champagne to celebrate our anniversary and recent engagement. The food was delicious! The only dish we didn't care for was the chocolate mousse brulee - we weren't prepared for how stiff it was and almost broke the plate when digging into the chocolate with our spoon. The night was still a memorable one, and we'd enjoy dining again when we are back in D.C."

  • "We had out of town friends staying by Dupont Circle so we picked Firefly based on reviews and we were very glad that we did! Our server was excellent, knew all of the details of the ingredients and flavors of the dishes, and also had an excellent knowledge of the wine list. He did a superb job with wine and food recommendations and did not lead us astray - one of the best waiters that we have had. The appetizers, entrees and desserts were excellent, well-presented and flavorful, particularly the fried oysters, the gnocchi entree, the pot roast entree and the chicken entree. Our friends, who have dined all around the world, were very impressed. We would definitely return!"

  • "When we arrived a few minutes late for dinner reservations on a Saturday, the restaurant was packed and the bar scene was energetic. Our friends had arrived on time and and were almost seated when we called to let the restaurant know we were running a bit late. At that point the available table was given to another party. We waited about 40 minutes for a free table. The maitre d was gracious and apologetic, sending us complimentary champagne while he tried to extricate a party which he said had been there for 3 hours. Finally seated we were quite happy to receive a couple of complimentary appetizers. The roasted chicken and the steak with bordelaise sauce were superb! Firefly is a neighborhood gem!"

  • "The menu looked promising but sauces were flat and salads were boring."

  • "Extremely noisy! They were packed which is why our server probably was not as attentive as he/she could have been. The food we ordered, though, was excellent."

  • "We were visiting and decided to give this spot a try for brunch (dinner looks good too) Nice gluten free options and tasty coffee. The place was very busy. Shirmp and grits were tasty and my kids loved the waffles and ricotta pancakes. Portions are perfect; not too big and not too small. Service is spotty. I would give this a try on another visit for dinner due to their gluten free options and tasty looking small plates."

Food was very delightful we share the shrimp and grits and the charcuterie board to our taste was very good and then we share the Market Fish and the chicken flavorful and fantastic our finale was the lemon chiffon cake for dessert and this one was unique. We were well taken care off from all the staff and once again thank you Lisa for make our dinner memorable. Definitely I will be back"

  • "What can I say but wonderful. This was a great way to end my evening from a hard day’s work. We celebrated a birthday and they certainly made it special. I would like to send a shout out to Mr. Connon. Because of him and his professional detail in serving us with grace along with making us feel special as if we were royalty you cannot ask for more. I would go again in a heartbeat"

  • "Really enjoyed the meal. Energetic but not too noisy, somewhat close quarters, but convivial. Wine list extensive, with even the less expensive by the glass choices being very palatable. Great combinations of flavors, nice takes on traditional dishes The peanut butter and chocolate mousse was out of this world Would definitely return"

  • "Overall Firefly was good if you're looking for a busy, "fun" brunch where everyone's hitting the mimosas. I was looking for a quiet place for a brunch date, so it wasn't right for me. My date was running late, and while I was waiting as the table I was completely ignored. It took literally 15 minutes for someone to even come and bring me water. The server didn't ask if I wanted coffee or juice until my date showed up. The food as pretty good and came out quickly, and the price is a pretty standard DC brunch."

  • "food, drink and service with my husband. Firefly was perfect in every way. The drinks to start were delicious, creative and interesting, from there we were not rushed to order, our salad to share was split on two plates and the main course was not only beautiful but delicious. I had the fish with quinoa and it was fantastic. Our server was amazing, gave us two complimentary champagne since we were celebrating a birthday. Service the best!"

  • "Our visit to Firefly was exceptional from start to finish. Staff was very friendly and knowledgable, and even gave us some great drink recommendations to accompany our entrees. The food tasted excellent, and my steak was extremely tender and cooked to perfection. The other members of our party had nothing but praise on the quality of the food, and the presentation as well. A delicious dessert special capped off the meal for us, and as we left, we were highly (and still are) anticipating our next trip to Firefly!"

  • "Interesting decor, good service , teens to 70's enjoyed food. Went for brunch, if heading to D.C. Recommend reservations. This was the third recommended place but turned out very good. Two diners would recommend the kale egg dish with a robust tomato sauce. Hollandaise good but as usual in restaurants a little skimpy on sauce and could have used a touch of cayenne. Eggs were all cooked to perfection. Definitely recommend. Comfortable and able to carry on a conversation. Only 4stars re Hollandaise but that is a complaint in have with most places. Still enjoyed."

  • "Group of 6 for brunch and could not get a reservation before 1. Everything from food to staff was really good, except the noise level was so high. There is no baffling or decor to absorb any of the noise. We had a very hard time hearing each other. We won't be back for brunch but would consider a different day/time to compare."
    Dined on 3/23/2014
  • "The food was decent, but not exceptional. My shrimp and grits were over-salted. My real complaint is that the place is quite noisy-- even though we were seated near the window in one of the "quietest" locations. Also thought the dishes were overpriced, and servings on the skimpy side. I won't be returning."

  • "Had lunch with excellent burgers and kale salad, plus cheese sampler and mac and cheese….all very tasty and satisfying. Non- alcoholic Cosmo was delicious! Service friendly and on task. The Chef hand-delivered his fabulous sweet potato/apple beignets with pot de chocolate….to die for!!! Definitely will be back!"
