  • "This was my first time at this restaurant. The food and service was excellent. However, I will not return. First a disclaimer, I was born one street over. My only complaint, and it's more a matter of principle trather than a financial issue: The neighborhood is undesirable and there's no close on street parking. I think charging for parking and having mandatory valet on top of it is poor form. This should be a free self park lot. I drive a high end sports car and I don't like turning over my keys to anyone. This practice will prevent me from returning."

  • "We had a fabulous meal at Firebox...our first time going there but will not be the last. Food was delicious, unusual combinations of ingredients, very nice presentation. The place is not cheap, but the food is a cut above. Wine list was OK for a restaurant of that caliber, but not great. They did a very nice job with a duck dish, and with a striped bass special. Their deserts were quite something: the ice cream sandwich and the lemon cream pie were both truly unique, said by one who does not normally do deserts. The building is really unusual...a very large dining room in the back, but smaller areas between that room and the bar area in front. It held a lot of people and seemed energetic without being noisy or cramming in tables."

  • "Firebox is in an old mill with 3 distinctive rooms. The tall foundry at the front has high timber framed ceilings and houses the bar which has an amble counter and generous seating of high tables and large booths. The middle room is long and narrow with booths on the outer wall and tables for two along a beautiful orange wall that shields that space from services. The back room has the robust timber framing, columns and beams, of the old mill and serves as the large dinning room. So you can take your pick of the room that suits your mood for the moment. The food is varied and excellent. The service is attentive and friendly without being intrusive."

The restaurant was a little loud, echo-e... louder music may have helped overpower the conversations of nearby tables. The parking was a bust.... had to wait 15+ minutes to get my car from valet; I would prefer local restaurant parking. A smidge pricey, but will frequent again."

  • "We chose Firebox on recommendations from Trip Advisor members. We were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful everything tasted. The chef obviously knows his stuff! We had fresh oysters, mussels, bone marrow appetizers which were excellent. Our party chose the chicken, pasta and pork dishes. These too were full of flavor, excellently presented. The only criticism might be that the portions were SO good they were not large enough. We did not have time for dessert sadly, which is my fav, but next time hopefully. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Would recommend to anyone. Wish it were closer to where we live."

  • "Dined at Firebox for the first time for a pre-theater dinner, and it was a wonderful experience. The restaurant is located a couple of blocks from the state capitol. The menu is just the right size -- a great selection of interesting dishes, not too overwhelming. Food was uniformly excellent -- fresh ingredients, expertly prepared. The bacon used as an accent in the soup and the salad was as good as any we had ever tasted. The fish was perfectly cooked. A very good and reasonably priced wine list. Service was excellent -- our waiter was efficient, friendly, and knowledgeable. And the ambience is comfortable, relaxed, and spacious. I'd recommend Firebox without hesitation and look forward to returning next time I'm in Hartford."

  • "I took my wife to firebox for lunch last Friday and we had a wonderful time. The food was absolutely fantastic, the service was great and the ambience was perfect for the two of us. The restaurant was largely empty when we first arrived - as it was just after they opened - but began to fill up by the time we were ready to leave. One of the things that my wife had noted was that there was a good amount of space between tables, which was nice. We will most definitely return sometime for dinner."

  • "Service was okay, dinner plates came late and both of our steaks where over cooked. Our server seemed preoccupied or unable to handle all her tables, we noticed the dinners where delivered by someone else. Very disappointed in the mussel appetizer, they where full of sand and one of them was OBVIOUSLY dead before cooked. when I went to eat it I noticed it was a tiny shriveled nothing in the shell and the flavored transfered into the dish, not very appealing"
