Our first time here & it was great. We read reviews & disagreed with several after we went there. Loved the borsch & the cabbage rolls were awesome. The cherry blintzes were also out of this world delicious. Also had the Lamb in Clay Pot and Beef in Clay Pot. Both were excellent. Our waitress, Ola, was very sweet & gave great service. A complimentary slice of cake with oranges was a treat for my friend's birthday. We cannot wait to return.

We were there with a group of 10 people. The service was very good and attentive. We loved tasting all the different Russian food. The chefs kept bringing out little plates of a different piroski each time. That way the food stayed fresh and we were able to sample many items. I just wish they put out their little potato dumplings that they serve at dinner.

We checked in and tried sitting in bar area for happy hour....but waiter insisted on adding table cloth and place settings. We ended up eating there instead of moving to dining room, which wasn't our 1st choice. From there it took 15 minutes to order drinks and finally receive them. Waiter did not know anything about drink orders, didn't know what over ice meant. Female bar tender had to read how to make a drink. It was all very challenging, but when the food finally came, it was exceptional. Will go back and try again.

After meticulously taking our five orders for dinner, the waiter forgot to process my wife's. They served four of us, and then he returned about 10 minutes later to ask the obligatory "how is everything?" I said, "We haven't started yet because we are waiting for my wife to be served". After a long blank look, they huddled over the cash-register and then they waited 10 minutes before coming back to the table to tell us that they forgot her order and were preparing it. Later the owner/manager came by and asked how was everything. I said other than forgetting my wife's order, the food was very good. She tried to alibi, saying it was a problem with the oven - but they didn't need the oven to bring her bowl of Borscht.

Firebird's food is terrific...outstanding! The problem we encountered was service-related. Whoever is managing the place booked a huge party (looked like 40+) without making sure there were adequate servers to handle the extra work without ignoring the other diners. As a result, the service grew slower and slower throughout the course of dinner. Finally, after waiting 30 minutes for our desserts, we cancelled the order, paid the bill, and left. I would try Firebird again, but only after making darn sure they didn't have any large parties booked for the time I planned to be there.

Got my reservation via Open Table and arrived about 2 minutes early. The waiter / host looked frazzled and was walking around very quickly and sweating. He walked up to us and and didn't say anything, I mentioned that we had a 7:00pm reservation. He looked exasperated shrugged his shoulders and looked around the room and said, "What can I do?" That's not really the response I was looking for. I've been to the Firebird many times before, they're very friendly and the food is fantastic. However, on this day they were clearly overwhelmed. We did get seated and it was 15 minutes before we got a glass of water. We looked around the room and everyone seemed upset. We decided to leave in and try again another day.

Came for a valentine's dinner with my wife. We knew we were in trouble after having been seated for a half hour before we saw the menu. We stuck it our and were happy with the food. Turns out the restaurant's computer went down and the service was doomed to having to ask each table if what was in hand was what was ordered. Though we left before it got very crowded we knew it was going to be a long night for staff. They were pleasant but everything arrived late and cold. BUUUUUT the food was very good and we intend to come back with other family members who are sure to enjoy the fare. So hopefully they get the computer fixed because it would be a shame to see this place go under to to these fixable problems.

We had been to Firebird for their buffet lunch, but wanted to try it for dinner. The only reason we couldn't give it a five is because one: they could not make our drink of choice as the bar was out of sweet vermouth and bitters, and two: although the stroganoff was quite delicious (noodles appeared to be freshly made), the beef should have been of prime quality, perhaps a filet. Very tasty and tender, but the texture was wrong for that dish. One of us ordered chicken Kiev with escargot for a starter, and was thrilled with his choice. House wine was good and fairly priced, as was the vodka shot. Great bread as well. Service was excellent, and we shall be back.

Noise from the MC and the music from birthday party going on was incredibly loud and annoying. Even kids in the dining room were covering their ears. The host said this was a one time event that they hosted for another restaurant as a favor, that it wasn't always like this. The service was different. Everytime they brought us standard items they brought half the items the first trip then made another trip to bring the other half. The food was pretty good. We only ate appetizers and shared them and for the most part they were good. Nothing outstanding at this restaurant that would encourage me to go back, though if you like Russian food or just want to try something different, I certainly encourage you to try Firebird.

We've come before because of their unique and savory dishes that are beautifully plated. We experienced several service issues. Special instructions on the Open Table reservation were unknown by the Host. We requested a table over a booth. The server reach over another guest's plate to serve food and utensil. My soup starter was served 5 minutes before the other guests salads. One of the guests order an appetizer as a main course with specific instructions to serve it as such but was served it at the same time as my soup and before her requested salad starter. The server took it back to the kitchen but she didn't seem to understand why. We thought that perhaps she didn't understand English very well. The Host was apologetic.

I checked out the restaurant on Yelp before arriving. I was greeted. The walls were outdated with a wall displaying a kitchen window and a fireplace looks done by a child. I ordered the escargot and it with cheese, but it was delicious, I decided on the kompot and It reminded me of a fruity beer. I liked it. I then ordered Escallope Pork Chops with Mushroom Sauce. It looked appetizing. The pork chop was tough, mushroom sauce was salty and unseasoned polenta. It was not worth $16. I saw the dessert of "ballarina" on their menu. The waitress was excited that I asked about it only to tell me that it was not available. I did see that they have a buffet. I may come back to try that, but not any time soon. This is for the old folks of Russia.

This was my 2nd trip to the Firebird. The 1st a few years ago. Remembered great food, average service, great drinks. SO disappointed this time. Food still mostly good. Cabbage rolls & cherry blinis exceptional. Service was BAD. 2 cabbage roll orders ordered, 1 arrived. We had to ask for plates. We were told to use our bread plates. Entrees arrived 1 at a time & long intervals between. Unusual dishes with unusual names. We had to know who got what (we got it wrong). Check came & no dessert offered. Saturday night. No bar service. I won't be back unless I hear service has improved a lot. Love the cabbage rolls and cherry blini. Based on the meal I ordered, I wouldn't get another entree. Maybe I should try the buffet.

A group of eight had dinner here. All of us agreed that the food was very good and that we would consider returning. The weakness at the Ffirebird was the slowness of service and delivery of food. There was one server for this family owned eatery. The food arrived slowly. One person did not receive her dinner until almirt everyone else had finished. Perhaps on another day there would bre an additional server or more cooking staff. The young lady who was serving was very nice and I can't fault her for the slow service.

Apparently, the restaurant was unprepared for the onslaught of diners following the article in the Sac Bee. Our waiter had difficulty understanding English and mixed up a few orders. Everything took a long time to prepare, and one meal was overlooked. The beet soup was the best I've had. The recommended dessert was also very enjoyable. I'll wait awhile before I return to try them again for dinner.

I have been driving past this little gem for a couple of years and never took notice of it, maybe because it's directly across from a large strip mall that includes SaveMart/Big 5. I LOVE Eastern European food, so when I saw a Groupon for a Russian restaurant in Carmichael I bought 1 instantly. When I went there with my wife I kicked myself for missing it. Their food is $$ priced and well worth it. Vegetables are crisp and fresh, plate looked like a work of art (wish I could include a picture, because I definitely took some)and the food was AWESOME. $58 for both of us, but well worth it. Oh did I mention they have buffets and on Saturday the buffet include hosted wine :)

Did not stay for dinner, very disappointed on just the looks of the restaurant. Was hoping for a romantic place for dinner. I really really wanted to try the food, but my wife was really turned-off, looked more like a karoke bar, two people working all the tables. No table settings (nothing), took five minutes before we rec'd a menu and another five minutes for water. That was enough for us to decide to leave. Chef Ramsey needs to visit this place just to bring some life to it.

I love this place! The owner suggested- Borsch(vegetable soup): with some spices, very lovely enjoyable, especially at a cold evening. Cabbage roll - rice and ground beef, good but a little too plain for me, need something to spice it up. Chicken Kebab - with wedge fried, and cucumber salad. Chicken is very well spiced...the whole dish is very well balance for my taste. gf and I shared all these dishes and we were very satisfied. We were happy found a new place to go and I think I will try the dumplings next time. Large portions so plan to share the dishes or have lunch/dinner the next day. Both food and service are excellent! And the price is not bad either. If you like volka, try Putinka limited edition!

Set in a neighborhood strip mall, Firebird serves authentic Russian food. The borscht was excellent as were the entrees -- a chicken stuffed ravioli and chicken. The food quality and presentation, service and ambiance make this a winner. An ambitious menu offers a wide variety of unique foods. We had borscht and solynak (smoked meats) full of vegetables; both excellent. The blini's (spinach and cream, meat and cheese) and Vareniki dumplings (potato and mushroom) were superb. The "clay pot" stews were wonderful. The spring salad with feta was crisp and fresh. The beef Stroganov was excellent although the noodles were 30 seconds too soft. Mike (knowledgeable, properly attentive) suggested sour Cherry blini for desert which was a brilliant recommendation. Four of us took two hours to enjoy dinner with every second rewarding. Our adventure with Russian food was relaxed, delicious and exciting dinner.
