Diner Reviews
  • "We sat at the high top chefs table and had a great view of the entire restaurant including the chefs. It was special watching our food be prepared, cooked, plated and delivered to our table pipping hot. "

  • "Trendy restsurant that continues to deliver innovation in dinning with excellent local produce and meat. Menu is seasonal, professional staff and the owner Doug sets the tone for customer satisfaction. Have never had a bad meal!!"

  • "We had another great meal at fire. The food is innovative and fresh. Great service. Doug Katz is a very talented chef and we are fortunate to have him in Cleveland."

  • "Had an early Saturday dinner at Fire. Service was attentive, noise level became rather high, food was interesting and well considered. They might want to add a dish or two with a chicken foundation and possibly an additional vegan entree. Certainly an east side favorite but, as it's in Shaker Square, not easy to get to from anywhere other than the Heights. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area."

  • "We are regulars at FIRE. We don't stray often. It is almost always our first choice with friends or by ourselves. The food is terrific, the wait staff really attentive and knowledgable, and the host/Chef, Doug Katz is a dream. No, I am not his mother!! Love this place and so glad to have it at Shaker Square."

  • "Meals were excellent - mussels appetizer , cod and scallops main entrees - all delicious. Popovers were light and flaky. We were late and seated in the back room which while quieter than the main dining room lacks the ambiance. Still a delightful evening wih friends."

  • "The best dinner we have had in years. Everything was absolutely outstanding. Would highly recommend, this is now our favorite restaurant. Make sure you get Fire Split for dessert."

  • "We had a great experience at this restaurant the food was delicious, the service a little slow and disappointing for a place such as this one, but overall a good experience! It was nice that the chef came to see how was everything going."

  • "I requested a romantic table and got it, at a window table while a snowstorm swirled madly outside. The wall heaters were perfect in keeping us warm. Our waiter, Christian, was knowledgeable and accommodating. The food was just right, cocktails tasty, ambience lively but not noisy. And I was gifted with a tiny birthday cake and candle! A perfect evening!"

  • "Great food! Fire has everything from duck confit and grits to lemon soufflé pancakes with blueberry compote. Love the atmosphere for brunch-very classy but easy-going so you can enjoy a long relaxing breakfast without the feeling of being rushed. We came here for my mom's birthday and everyone had wonderful food and a fantastic experience. I have been to Fire for dinner as well and really enjoyed the food and service. It does seem to get more romantic/upscale at night, but still the ambience is relaxing, not stiff."

  • "Overall, my experience at Fire was great. The ambiance was very nice, and the food was excellent. We got duck and a ribeye, and both were fantastic. You are going to pay for quality, so it is more of a special occasion meal, but the price wasn't exorbitant for what you got. The service was also excellent. I can't really say anything bad about the visit."

  • "It is a wonderful restaurant! The food is outstanding as is the staff. We appreciated the complimentary valet parking as it was snowing as we arrived and during our stay."

  • "Fire is just a wonderful and relaxing place that is just "formal" enough and "informal." The food is predictably excellent! The ambiance is warm and the wait staff charming. We love this place!"

  • "Loved the brunch with family ages 5-70. Chef Doug even gave the kids a tour of the kitchen and fresh chocolate chip cookies. We will definitely return the next time we are in Cleveland."

  • "Enjoyed the fried chicken livers, warmed sweet potato salad and the lamb shank. Skilled wait staff and impeccable service. Nice ambience."

  • "The food at Fire continues its high quality. The food is some of the best in Cleveland without being too fussy or overwrought. Nice mix of fish, meat, and vegetarian. We love the ambience too!"

  • "We had a group of five on a Friday evening, and all of our meals were wonderful. From the sea scallops, to the pork chop (with fried egg) to the whole fish, it was a delicious meal. The owner, Doug Katz, usually makes a point to stop by the tables and ask how everyone is doing - that night was no exception. This is an energetic place on a Friday night - lots of fun in a nice atmosphere. It was obviously cold the night we were there, but the outdoor dining is nice on Shaker Square. There is also a small bar inside. I think you can make this place work for any occasion!"

  • "I have been here many time and have never been disappointed -- and have never had anyone I was dining with been unhappy either. If you've not been there -- go. You will not be sorry!"

  • "Fire has always been one of our favorites places to go. Doug Katz is always friendly and says hello to everyone in the restaurant, you just do not get that from other places. Plus the food is superb and the staff is always friendly. We wish it was closer to our home!"

  • "We went to Fire as a group of four friends. We had been there before and this visit did not disappoint. The food was excellent. I had the fish special it was fabulous. Service is very good as well. Can't go wrong with Fire."

  • "We had great meal, the service and the ambiance always great Dr. Wright"

  • "If you love duck confit like I do, go to Fire. If you don't eat a lot, make sure to ask for the 1/2 portion, otherwise, they automatically serve you two LARGE duck legs. They were very kind in swapping out the spaetzle for brussels sprouts, which were delicious. The service was superb, and Doug Katz, chef/owner, stopped by our table twice. My friend's daughter had the lamb, which was very nice. I recommend that, too. I'm not a fan of lamb, but I enjoyed this because it had a subtle lamb taste. My friend had the steak, which I didn't taste. I highly recommend the caramel ice cream."

  • "The food is consistently great and the staff is attentive, fun and engaging. This is one of if not the best restaurant in Cleveland. We dine out quite a bit and this is by far our favorite."

  • "My husband and I went here for my birthday this past weekend, it was our first time at Fire. I loved the seasonality of the menu and service was spot-on. The only small disappointment was my husband's cocktail. He ordered the Fig Time, the lemon juice was just overpowering. It tasted basically like lemonade (maybe that is the point, but it wasn't what we were expecting). Everything else came out as expected. I recommend the duck confit and the white bean and tomato soup, if they have it!"

  • "We were seated on time for our reservation which was nice. Our waiter Kelly was helpful with suggestion about food and wine but forgot to bring our drink that I could see sitting on the bar then he forgot to bring our wine we ordered with dinner again we could see it sitting at the bar. The food was great and overall we did have a good time despite our scattered waiter."

  • "It's a bit expensive! The four of us had brunch and no cocktails ... $95 including tip! Food was good, however, I ordered the Vegan Entree which was described as root vegetables, black beans, Quinoa and a few other ingredients. There was no mention of cilantro, but of course it was loaded with cilantro. Why does every chef feel that if a recipe has black beans, they have to reach for the cilantro. I despise cilantro and returned it for the eggs benedict. The best and most creative item we had was the wonderful tea! They serve tea leaves in french press style."

  • "I am vegan and ordered the vegan dish, and it was so small, and I stayed so hungry after I finished it! I had to order another appetizer after that and I was still hungry!!!you pay an arm and a leg at this restaurant and u get a sample main course instead of real normal size dish!!!I am very very disappointed!!!"

  • "Fire is a sure bet for a terrific dining experience. Food and service quality are rock solid. Mussels are my favorite appitizer. Mushroom salad is a must and the duck confit is a classic. I recommend it to all coming to Cleveland for a visit."

  • "I like breakfast food and I enjoy going out for brunch. What I enjoy most is consistency. And “Fire” is guilty of that: food is always delicious – breakfast sandwich, pizza, croque madame and stuffed French toast just to name a few of the favorites. I really appreciated that the chef was walking around saying "hi" to guests. Makes you feel "at home". I guess theres a reason why you always need reservations."

  • "Fire is far and away my favorite restaurant in Cleveland. The menu, which changes regularly, is always interesting, and the food is excellent. It's a friendly place to spend time, and you can count on an excellent meal. Individuals with food sensitivities can eat there with confidence."

  • "One of the best meals I've ever had. Order the cod. The chicken livers are outstanding. Doug, the owner, mingles with the customers which adds a very welcoming vibe to the experience."

  • "Acoustics are good despite crowd and hard surfaces. Would prefer addition of lighter fare/portions offering. Long wait for food despite being early evening and one entrée came out cold. Waiter was knowledgeable and eager to please---kitchen issue? Chef came out and could not have been nicer to us and surrounding tables---very hands on with great style. Food was excellent but pricey. Desert menu was uninspiring."

  • "We went to Fire for Valentine's Day. The food was excellent and the valet parking was perfect for a cold winter day."

  • "We had a group of four and all of our meals were delicious. The salads were particularly good - kale and sweet potato option was delicious. We loved the variety on the menu. Service was great and fun atmosphere."

  • "I will return to Fire because the food is excellent! Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the restaurant on this visit. Several waitresses, including ours gathered to chat for an extended period of time instead of checking on their tables. We finished our appetizer before our waitress returned to take our dinner order. Please don't let poor service tarnish the reputation of this special place."
