Diner Reviews
  • "Great little restaurant tucked away from the 'bustle' of Fishermans Wharf. All the dishes we tried for lunch were delicious, well cooked, well presented. This is not michelin star stuff just really well done neighbor hood food in a good location and decent price. Would definitely go back. I only had a glass of wine so can't comment on the wine list."

  • "This restaurant was visited by a show on travel channel. I thought I would give it a try since the show was visiting great Italian restaurant in big cities in the US. I was not impressed at all. I had their "famous" pumpkin ravioli. It was very plain in taste and just good. My husband had the veal piccata in lemon caper sauce. Did not taste good at all. I make a better one. The dish had no lemon, butter, caper flavor at all. The service was poor as well. The waitress took forever and she recommended my husbands dish stating it was really good. Will not go back."

  • "The service was friendly, however we were disappointed in the seafood pasta, as it looked very different from what we actually saw on TV. We ordered the Tutto Mare, expecting morplacee seafood on top of the pasta, but there was only one prawn, one scallop, dried up mussels, and mostly had calamari on top (overcooked). We feell that maybe tourists get a different plate without much on top? We have had better food at home in Walnut Creek, Ca. I won't return ."

  • "The large tour bus at the front door & the low quality of food tells the story. This was our first ....& last....visit to this restaurant."

  • "The service was mixed... I ordered a medium rare NY Strip... It was first very over cooked and a dreadfully thin slice of meat. The peppercorn sauce is awesome as usual. I commented on the steaks tempature and I was mid bite of a potato and the entire plate was taken. The others in my party went ahead and ate their meals (all delicious) and I sat and waited ~ 10 min and wolfed down my food as they stared.... Awkward. The staff did pour 2 glasses of wine and didn't comp the steak."

  • "The best pasta I have found in North America. One of the oldest restaurants in the city and with the best staff. Miss the old location, but the Mason St. spot is still terrific and you can't beat the food."

  • "Quality service and food once again. "Lalo" the Maitre'd greeted us immediately and let us choose a great booth sytle table which we preferred. He introduced our waitress "Chelsea" immediately and service was great. For wine, we chose the 2009 Antinori Tignanelo. However, they were out of the 2009, but did have the 2010 which was quite excellent. The ambiance was fantastic and we met another couple in the next booth who also seemed to be enjoying their experience. We spent 2 1/2 hours there and enjoyed every minute. Chelsea, who is a music major, did entertain at the request of this couple and sang an operatic solo. Such a heavenly voice that topped off a wonderful evening."

  • "We love going back to this restaurant every year we are in San Francisco. Good food at pretty good prices for the City. Make sure you view all the pictures and memorabilla on the walls. This is supposed to be the oldest, continuing operating Italian restaurant in the US."

  • "Food was pretty good, service was great. No kids menu so that wasn't great. Ambience felt a little stuffy/old."

  • "I would absolutely recommend this place to those who are looking to enjoy fine Italian food, in an intimate, warm and friendly atmosphere. Very romantic too for those who want to please their loved one. We were lucky to dine here last Wednesday, and we were pleasantly surprised and entertained by a life music quintet that played big bad tunes. What a wonderful treat!!! I brought my 17 year old daughter to Fior D"Italia and she was delighted! For sure, my daughter and her 17 year old friend who was with us, are hungry for more of your food and the wonderful atmosphere Fiora D'Italia provides to those of us who appreciate good Italian food and wonderful service."

  • "Our family was out of town for Christmas and looked for an open Italian Restaurant. There were few choices, and this one had been recommended. When we arrived for our reservation the hostess was completely flustered and confused. We had to wait awhile before we could be seated, even though there were plenty of open tables. The size of the appetizers were individual portion sizes, but the waiter misled us and told us they were enough for a table of four. That started the meal off badly. The waiter disappeared and we did not see him until he served our entrees, which were fair to good, but nothing worthy of the holiday. Service was poor. Overall, we were served the bare minimum of food and not of the quality or service we expected."

Absolutely lovely/ delicious and accommodating on all fronts- we have been going to Fior for many years and they still retain that old school feeling with a twist... We left very happy with yet another memory to add to the family album... Many thx for the love..."

  • "The food was average at best. I was underwhelmed with the quality of food. I had ordered the linguini with bolognese and a side order of meatballs, as well as caesar salad. The salad was tasty. The linguini were home made and the pasta was made well. The sauce lacked flavour and I had to request extra sauce. I had ordered bolognese sauce, and they gave me regular sauce...after requesting the bolognese sauce, the waiter did bring some to my table. I was very unimpressed. As for the meatballs, they were huge, and made with spinach, which they made them with way too much spinach. The service was rushed and unattentive, as there was a very large group that they were attending to....however, they were friendly and were working very hard."

  • "This place was fantastic. Everything about it was great. When we first arrived we were sat in a secluded area which made our date night super romantic. The whole resturants gives off a romantic ambiance. Our food was amazing! I had the lasanga and my boyfriend had the pesto chicken. Both meal were delicious. The lasagna was definitely one of the best I have had!! It was creamy and filled with lots of cheese. We also had dessert which was also fantastic. Lastly, our water was the best. He was very attentive and made sure we were fine throughout the evening. Definitely one of the best spots to eat Italian food I'm San Francisco. I would highly recommend it."

  • "Very good food, service, although some prices in the stratosphere on the wine list. Excellent espresso -- but oddly no lemon or raw sugar came with the service. Some confusion with the valet service which needs to be clearly identified...even though I put the ticket in with the credit cards, it wasn't added to the bill. Typically the valet operator will tell you how much parking will be when you hand over the keys--but no. So while the $10 valet fee wasn't out of line, we thought it was paid for with the bill. A bit of a sour ending to a pleasant meal."

  • "Moderate noise rating is due to the jazz combo on the Wednesday evening we dined there. But that's not a criticism; the music was great and an unexpected pleasure. The food was great, too. We will definitely return for the music and the food!"

  • "A bit off the beaten NB track, which was a relief, as was the valet parking. Great ambiance and service. Pumpkin ravioli was outstanding--fresh homemade pasta all around. Nice bar, too. Wine list could use some tweaking."

  • "Everything About this establishment was excellent. My wife had an old time favorite , Pumpkin Ravioli , which was cooked aldente and I had the Quail with Sage & Sausage Stuffing place on a bed of rich and creamy Polenta. Also, the wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. These dish's were wonderful, we cleaned our plates. The parking was a little iffy but that's San Francisco. Est. 1886, you bet!!!"

  • "We used to dine at Fior D'Italia when we lived in the Bay Area many years ago. We were thrilled to see it still there on our short holiday to the Bay Area this past weekend. A quick search on Open Table and we got a Saturday night reservation at the last minute. Should have known . . . the service was slow, food unexceptional and price well above what the venue deserved. We nearly had to beg for valet service and almost felt like we were an imposition to the staff. Steer clear wary diners . . . there is so much more to be found in SF!"

  • "When we last dined at this location, it was the Hotel San Remo. The Fior D' Italia relocated to the San Remo following the fire that damaged their previous location in the same neighborhood. We arrived early for our reservations and were promptly seated in a booth. We ordered and out salad was served shortly after we ordered and our wine was poured. The wine list was extensive and featured both domestic and imported wines. The menu items we ordered, were expertly prepared and the service was excellent. We dined early, 6:00 pm. and the restaurant was not busy. We will be back some time soon."
