  • "This restaurant was fabulous! We decided to make reservations for lunch on a Friday and ended up having the place to ourselves. The maître d' was very welcoming and gave good recommendations for our drink order. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable and also gave us good recommendations for our meal. I had gnocchi and a house salad and my wife had spaghetti a la bolognese, both were very tasty. My wife had the panna cotta with a dessert wine and I had tiramisu and a cappuccino for dessert. Both were delicious- the texture of the panna cotta was perfect (not always an easy thing to find). Our lunch did take over 1.5 hours so if you are looking for a speedy meal this isn't the place for you- it is definitely a dining experience."

  • "Drawn to this restaurant because it is the "oldest Italian restaurant in America" and received fairly good ratings, it did not disappoint in the "old world charm" department. Because the three in my party (including one young teenager) were not drinking or ordering lots of food, our waiter seemed to disappear at some point in the evening. The pasta was very good. They had live entertainment, which was enjoyable--maybe just a little on the loud side."

  • "After giving high praise for this place to my visiting out of town friends we were all so disappointed in the service and food quality this time around. I think a major service / kitchen meltdown must have happened. After my halibut came out 10 minutes after everyone else's pasta, it was completely raw inside, like white sushi. Sent it back and they cut it in half, sautéed it in the pan, the first piece was so thick there was no way it could have cooked properly. I asked a waiter for assistance (older grumpy guy) who pretty much barked at our table, "who's your waiter!?" As he kept on walking by seemingly annoyed that he had to help another waiter's table. The drinks came out wrong (bar's fault) and my single glass of wine took 20 minutes."

  • "Wonderful experience!!! Started at happy hour and was impressed with the generosity of the pour on our beverage of choice and mind you it's half off. Appetizer was good almost did not want to go to our dinner reservation, there was plenty to eat. Dinner was marvelous!!! Owner was gracious enough to share a glass of wine with us. Entertainment was fabulous soft 40-50's music, great to listen to while having your dinner. I thought I was in Italy for a second. I want to bring everyone back for them to experience a lovely evening at Fior D' Italia."

  • "I saw this restaurant on TV. The Chef seemed charming so I thought we would give it a try during our upcoming trip. Our server seemed annoyed. We were seated in the front window and the manager did come up to the table to ask if everything was alright. The chef was absorbed by the couple sitting next to us, but never spoke with us. We ordered a bottle of wine and had not even finished a glass before our meal was served. The food was ok. We were rushed though our meal as if there was a huge crowd coming. In fact the place was not even busy. I thought this meal was going to be special but it was just a big disappointment. There are MANY far better choices in San Francisco."

  • "We went to have pasta dinner before the SF Marathon. The Gnochi were fair but cold in the center (as recently defrosted), and the tomato sauce was extremely acid. The penne with tomato slices was boiled pasta with chopped tomatoes inflator except for to much garlic."

The service was the best I have encountered in SF, food fantastic starting with appetizers then main course...linguine vongole, Pasta with peas, canneloni, and more. Everyone (5) enjoyed their meal. Brought our own wine and our waiter opened without an issue. Staff brought terramisu with candle and sang an in tune Happy Birthday. Overall a great night of food, conversation and fun."

I love the old photographs of the restaurant history. The Caesar Salad was the best I've had in many years. The homemade pasta was tender and tasty. My husband's lasagna was the absolute winner of the evening!"

  • "We had dinner here with our teenagers and parents before going to the symphony on a Saturday night in the summer -- lots of different generations but they all found something to eat that they enjoyed. The waiter was friendly, and the food was very good, especially the homemade pastas. Valet parking was convenient, too. Try this restaurant if you're looking for a good meal without a lot of drama and noise."

The clams were so small as to be almost absent in my dish and the linguini wasn't flavored. Service was inadequate. I doubt that I'll go back. Maybe Saturday night at 6 is a mistake."

  • "Upon the recommendation of my grandparents, my husband and I had dinner here during our first visit to SFO. Given that my grandparents had held onto the business card from their visit 15+ years ago, I had high hopes. And they were met. The food was excellent, particularly the chicken tortellini my husband had. We also really liked the still steaming bread that was served while we waited for the entree. What I was particularly impressed with was how the host treated us. We wandered in off the street, not dressed fancy in the least, and the host was extra engaged with us, when I expected the opposite. He stopped by multiple times, and was very friendly and engaging."

The food is excellent, with tender fillets and homemade award-winning pastas; the wine list is superb, with a good representation of both Italian and Californian wines; and the service is first-rate. I am a concierge, and I now regularly recommend Fior D'Italia to my guests. It is a reliably pleasant experience and a delicious treat if you like top-tier Italian cuisine in an atmosphere where you can actually enjoy yourself and have a conversation. Adore this restaurant."

  • "I chose Fior d'Italia because it is the oldest Italian restaurant in America. Two friends and I were seated right away in a booth but we immediately asked to move to a table across the room because the noise from the bar was too loud to hear each other speak. We were given menus right away but then waited and waited for a server to appear to even take a drink order. Since it was a slow Sunday evening and the restaurant was not busy it was hard to understand. The food was reasonably tasty, but not exceptional in any way. Overall it was not the experience I was hoping for and probably would not go back."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary by returning to our honeymoon hotel .......the Washington Square Inn and dining at the same restaurant.....Fior D'Italia. Of course, the restaurant has since relocated but it continues to have the same delicious food. We loved the jazz band during and after our Wednesday dinner. At first, we were a little concerned to read some of the comments in TripAdvisor and Yelp about Fior D'Italia, but my wife and I, plus our friends, loved the service and the food. However, we missed the old place on Washington Square. Thanks for a great evening."

Fior is known for its fresh pasta and it did not dissapoint. My wife requested a sage butter sauce for her pasta vs. the cream sauce listed on the menu. They were eager to please. The restaurant has been in SF for more than 100 years. Would have enjoyed reading or listening to a history of the restaurant."

  • "I was meeting a friend that I had not seen in forty years, our server picked up the vibe, and did everything she could to give us the time to re-acquaint. I've been going to Fior D'Italia since the sixties and I have never been disappointed... I couldn't have picked a better choice for this occasion. The veal chop and the rabbit dishes are very good, and a reminder that I should frequent Fior more often."

  • "Fior D'Italia is a little tired, but, still a shiny gem in a sea of haute cuisine when you want a traditional Italian meal in a historic San Francisco spot in the little San Remo Hotel, near Fisherman's wharf. My Mother really enjoyed the history and the doting wait staff presenting calorie loaded cheesy Italian pastas and side dishes. A fun treat from more elaborate or complex San Francisco dining, with lots of multi-generational families sharing a Friday night family dinner."

Had the opportunity to re-experience the remarkable friendly and personable accommodation as well as the delightful food when there on 5/21/14 when I was able to take my East Coast brother and his family there. From the moment that Lalo greeted us, seated us and checked with us throughout the meal, I have an unreserved and unqualified recommendation for this special place: it is the pinnacle of a real and accessible restaurant that makes one feel special, like being at Chez Panisse, Farrollon, or Foreign Cinema in San Francisco. On the practical side: food quality as expected; costs are unexpectedly low! "

  • "The menu listed online in a total fabrication and has no resemblance to the actual menu at the restaurant. The actual selection at the restaurant was very limited and the prices were at least $10 higher for every entrée. The food was okay, but definitely not worth the higher price. I feel absolutely deceived, as the menu should be updated to reality. I will not be back."
