In San Francisco celebrating our retirement. Had a wonderful dinner with friends. Fior d"Italia was everything I had hoped it would be. Good drinks, good food and lovely restaurant. Our server Chris was very personable and was right on the ball. Would recommend this restaurant to any one who wants a wonderful Italian dinner. Great menu

Fior D'Italia is an old favorite relocated a decade or so ago to its present digs just up the Street from a Trader Joe's. It's one of those great Italian neighborhood places with crunchy lovely bread, staff who include long-timers, and house wine you can actually drink. The veal chop at $36 is what I order almost every time. Each time the staff tell me it's the best thing on the menu. The quantity of the food (large) for once matches the quality. I went on a Sunday recently and to my surprise there was a jazz band there. The average age of the group appeared to match that of the audience (past 70) but the music was an unexpected if loud treat. Great food and service; well worth a visit.

We took our son and girlfriend to an early dinner here. Sat outside as it was a beautiful day. Inside was Mal Sharpe and band playing mellow jazz in the dining area. We got to talk with jazz in the background. Quite lovely. Our server, Gilberto, was superb, bringing sourdough bread and butter, along with olive oil and Balsamic vinegar to the table to start; he was pleasant and engaging. Only downside was the table was too small for the salads, the bread plates and the drinks, but by then it was too late to add an additional table, which I'm sure they would have done if we asked. In summary, great outdoor dining on the streets of San Francisco enjoyed by all with exceptional service and ambiance. It's now on our list of "Go-To" restaurants.

Had been there third time in lots of years and quality was always outstanding. These people kept over all the years traditional Italian cooking on a high level. Even it was fully booked and obviously very busy the waiters kept their patience and paid full attention and did stay friendly. Always worth to come again.

From the minute you walk into the restaurant you feel like you are in Italy. The service and food are fantastic. Years ago it had a fire in its original location and has been in this specific location for a few years now. I like it because it is off the tourist path and in a neighborhood. A must do if you crave Italian food in SF.

This is one of the noisiest restaurants I've ever been in. We were seated in a small back room, which seemed quiet for about 10 minutes, when they seated a party of 12 screamers. From there on we 4 could hardly speak. Too bad, as it seemed like good food.

If you've never had the dessert, Zambgione, you must try it and if you love this dish you'll find it done perfectly light as a feather and smooth - ahhhh the Marsla wine used in and served with it is perfection, I wonder where they get such a good Marsala! Veal Saltimboca was complex in flavor and even better then I remembered the dish as I hadn't had it in a long while. The pan juices were divine with the tender veal and a perfect balance with Pino Grigio light crisp Italian vintage wine. I love this place! Next time - pasts as I saw it served in a molded round and it looked delicious.

I am on a heart-healthy lifestyle and had trouble finding anything on the menu that didn't have butter or cream in the preparation. I finally settled on the mussels with red sauce thinking this would be a marinara made with olive oil but it turned out to be a heavy sauce, perhaps a vodka sauce with cream. There was a jazz combo playing New Orleans' style music and it was very loud, even though we sat as far away as possible. We saw our waiter infrequently and it took a long time to receive our food. My friend enjoyed the cabbage soup. I should have ordered that and had them leave off the cheese.

We have been going to Fior d'Italia for over 40 years. Unfortunately, this time, neither dish was up to par. The lasagna was so overcooked, there was no texture to the dish - it had turned to mush. The saltimbocca was cut thick and tough and was overpowered by sage. The sage was so storng, you could not distinquish the other ingredients in the dish. Hopefully, it was a bad night and they will return to the Fior d'Italia we both love.

The food her is delicious. We both had Minestrone soup which was very good and surprisingly very large. We have eaten at this restaurant several times before and always had great service. This time it was a little off. We had to ask for parmesan cheese for the soup and a couple of other things. Hopefully it will be better the next time.

Our first time at this restaurant but we were thrilled with our luck! We started out in the bar area for Happy Hour and didn't want to leave to go into the dining room...so they created a wonderful table for the four of us right there in the bar. The staff were engaging, funny, informative, and very attentive. The food was excellent...had calamari, pumpkin ravioli, tiramisu, and several specials that night. We ended up spending 3 hours there because we were enjoying ourselves so much. It's the oldest Italian Restaurant (continuously serving) in the country and it does not disappoint.

Visiting from NY/NJ so am familiar with good Italian food. This restaurant was featured on the Food Network so thought we would give it a try. We had the calamari for an appetizer and it was outstanding. I ordered the Risotto Milanese which was delicious. I honestly can't remember what the rest of my group ate, but everyone was satisfied. The restaurant was quiet and not crowded but that could be because we ate early, 6pm. The service was very good and food arrived quickly.

This was our second time at Fior D'Italia. The Pasta e fagioli now has a white base. It has less flavor, is not visually appealing, and cold in temperature. Overall we were very disappointed with the soup. The Lasagna Bolognese was also a let down. We will be hesitant to come back a third time purely based on the cuisine.

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner. We had a table in the corner so it didn't seem like there were as many people there as there actually were. The ambiance was romantic (they put a very sweet red rose and candle on each table) with the exception of a couple times that a guy yelled at a sports game that was on (I guess they have a TV on in the bar?). I got the potato gnocchi, he got the seafood pasta special, and we shared calamari, and a bottle of champagne. All was good, although the calamari was really salty. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that the bill was less than $100, as the dining experience and quality of food was worth way more than that - and we got a bottle of champagne! I highly recommend this place!

I ordered eggplant parmigiano and it was light on the eggplant, and the eggplant was old and seedy, and really heavy on the cheese. I make this dish at home and prefer it my way: more fresh eggplant and light on the cheese. My husband ordered lasagna and it was just OK.

We were in San Francisco and had no idea where we would be for dinner. Within 30 minutes we had read reviews and made reservations at this outstanding restaurant. Hospitality and food was amazing. By the time we left our early dinner the place was bustling with locals as well as people of many languages. I can't wait to return. We lingered over homemade pasta to an amazing dessert over our 3 hour meal, a night to remember.

This restaurant was fabulous! We decided to make reservations for lunch on a Friday and ended up having the place to ourselves. The maître d' was very welcoming and gave good recommendations for our drink order. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable and also gave us good recommendations for our meal. I had gnocchi and a house salad and my wife had spaghetti a la bolognese, both were very tasty. My wife had the panna cotta with a dessert wine and I had tiramisu and a cappuccino for dessert. Both were delicious- the texture of the panna cotta was perfect (not always an easy thing to find). Our lunch did take over 1.5 hours so if you are looking for a speedy meal this isn't the place for you- it is definitely a dining experience.

Drawn to this restaurant because it is the "oldest Italian restaurant in America" and received fairly good ratings, it did not disappoint in the "old world charm" department. Because the three in my party (including one young teenager) were not drinking or ordering lots of food, our waiter seemed to disappear at some point in the evening. The pasta was very good. They had live entertainment, which was enjoyable--maybe just a little on the loud side.

After giving high praise for this place to my visiting out of town friends we were all so disappointed in the service and food quality this time around. I think a major service / kitchen meltdown must have happened. After my halibut came out 10 minutes after everyone else's pasta, it was completely raw inside, like white sushi. Sent it back and they cut it in half, sautéed it in the pan, the first piece was so thick there was no way it could have cooked properly. I asked a waiter for assistance (older grumpy guy) who pretty much barked at our table, "who's your waiter!?" As he kept on walking by seemingly annoyed that he had to help another waiter's table. The drinks came out wrong (bar's fault) and my single glass of wine took 20 minutes.

Entertainment was fabulous soft 40-50's music, great to listen to while having your dinner. I thought I was in Italy for a second. I saw this restaurant on TV. The Chef seemed charming so I thought we would give it a try during our upcoming trip. Our server seemed annoyed. We were seated in the front window and the manager did come up to the table to ask if everything was alright. The chef was absorbed by the couple sitting next to us, but never spoke with us. We ordered a bottle of wine and had not even finished a glass before our meal was served. The food was ok. We were rushed though our meal as if there was a huge crowd coming. In fact the place was not even busy. I thought this meal was going to be special but it was just a big disappointment. There are MANY far better choices in San Francisco.
