Diner Reviews
  • "We did the six course tasting menu. My wife did the wine pairing I ordered two cocktails. The portions are generous considering it's a tasting menu. I did think the service could use some improvement. Our waiter was rude, plain and simple. Perhaps he was having a bad day not sure. I'll go back, if I get him again I'll ask for someone else. I'd let you know his name but he never told us not did he explain the menu. When we asked him questions he seemed annoyed. At one point he simply walked away when my wife was asking questions about the menu. It was our first time so we had questions."

  • "I booked a table at Fiola purely based on its previous reviews - which were all spot on! I attended with four girlfriends and we all had an amazing time. Staff were attentive, knowledgeable and courteous. The food was delicious (mushroom pappardelle) and cocktails very 'drinkable' (the Fiola). I consider the price we paid for the bar and meal to be good - approx $100 per head. I would definitely recommend and would love to return."

  • "Seriously some of the best food I've had in DC. The ambiance was beautiful and the service was great. I had the truffle gnocchi and thought I had probably died and gone to heaven. Don't fill up too much though! The Bomboloni (donuts) are not to be missed!"

  • "What a wonderful dining experience! Staff exceptionally informative and attentive. We were trying to decide which pasta dish to split, when our server noted we could split pasta dishes. We had the lobster ravioli and gnocchi dishes - both absolutely wonderful. Yes, the prices are on the high side - but the outstanding quality of the food and service are well worth the cost."

  • "Quiet, as it was mostly empty, at lunch. A limited menu. The lobster salad would have been top notch if the lobster had been cooked through, rather than undercooked. Waiter was quite nice."

  • "Fiola is one of the top 5 restaurants. That said, 2 of the 5 are in the Fiola family. The other, is Fiola Mare. Fiola is probably the best place in DC for a nice, relaxing, lunch. Do not miss Fiola."

  • "Fiola is a go-to place for me when looking for an excellent meal. Their fish is always cooked perfectly and the tuna tartar app is not to be missed."

  • "Our young waiter originally from Kiev provided superb service with lots of charm. The white gazpacho was so scrumptious seconds would have been irresistible. The Caesar salad with lobster proved a really tasty choice for a hot day. A request for a quiet table was honored. Can't wait to return."

  • "Everything we put in our mouth from the burrata, tomato, and field greens on pesto to the homemade parpadelle with bolognese and smoked potato gnocchi with truffles and chanterelles were incredibly delicious. Best restaurant meal I've had this year! And that is saying something as I dine out a few times a week."

  • "We dined here for my birthday. It's the little things they did to make the day so very special. I was going back and forth whether to have the lobster ravioli or a fish. i went with the black cod, but they brought a sample of the lobster ravioli in advance of my entree. It was delicious! Complimentary dessert and a lovely card made me feel special on my special day. Thank you!"

  • "The service was exceptional, our waiter had an amazing taste for food and wine. The pre-dinner drinks were delightful (I had La Malafemmena- mango and prosecco, delicious!). The appetizers were all amazing: burrata and ahi tuna. The dessert was also amazing! The middle courses were great, but nothing too special. The wine list was amazing and beyond extensive. However, I noticed that the prices jumped from around $80/$90 straight to $200/250. I would never say a bottle of wine is cheap at $150, but after living in Italy, the wine isn't that amazing for the price."

  • "Outstanding food and wine, and excellent service. However, that the restaurant is justifiably popular, and even with a reservation, you may have to wait for your table. At least it's worth the wait."

  • "The food was very good, the service not so much. We received our appetizers before our drinks. Would have loved some bread to sop up the delicious broth in my seafood stew but our waiter had completely disappeared. These aren't exactly terrible crimes, but you expect a little more attention to detail when you're paying $350 for dinner for two."

  • "The tasting menu with the accompanying wine choices was absolutely superb, the equal of anything we've had in Florence or Venice."

  • "We'd heard that Fiola was good, but it is truly one of the best restaurant experiences in the city. The food is fresh and hand crafted, packing layers of flavor and outright deliciousness. There's something for every palette on this menu. Talk about a truly tasty treat!"

  • "Food was very good and definitely met reputation. But poor service wrecked the evening. Came early to sit in bar and waited 15 min before we were asked what we wanted at the bar. Seemed understaffed and servers/ bar had a "put upon" attitude. Seated at time of reservation but no follow up for another 15 min to 20 min. Waiter forgot one appetizer and rather than apologizing, made it sound like if was our fault. Waited for dessert/ coffee order forever. The food was great, but I won't go back to suffer through the service."

  • "I would recommend Fiola because the staff was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and wines; the customer service was first-class from the moment we walked into the door. We celebrated my wife's 50th birthday and our dinner and overall experience was exceptional."

  • "It was my first visit to Fiola--the staff were friendly and attentive. I ordered the Colors of the Garden salad which was delicious! The tortellini, not so much. It was not bad, but the pasta was not to my liking, nor was it notably tasty. The dessert however was fantastic. I ordered a trio of sorbets: chocolate, raspberry, and basil."

  • "This was our first trip to Fiola and we couldn't have been more pleased. From the bartender, Amy to our server, John, the entire experience was wonderful. And, the food was creative, beautiful, and more than delicious. Casa Luca for lunch and Fiola for dinner is my idea of a perfect day."

  • "We celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary at Fiola Saturday night. It was a delightful evening with excellent service and outstanding food! I have been a fan of Fabio since his days at Maestro - can't wait to experience Fiola Mare in the near future! Thank you to the restaurant for a memorable evening!"

  • "Easily one of the best meals I have had in DC. Food simple yet perfectly prepared. The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive. Fist corse: Do as the italians do, and order a half portion of pasta to start. Even the half portion of the lobster ravioli has what appeared to be an entire lobster...phenomenal. The smoked potato gnocchi were delicate (not the typical Americanized dough balls) with just a hint of smokiness, and accompanied with pig cheek and and trumpet mushrooms. Highly recommended. Entree: I had the stone bass, wife at the tenderloin. We would without hesitation order these again. I can not stress how great this meal was for us. Don't be turned off by the price, one of the few in DC actually worth it."

  • "Dined here for lunch. I had the gnocchi special and my husband had the signature lobster ravioli. Both were delicious! Manager/Somilier gave us each a sample glass of Viognier to bring out the favors of our dishes. Wonderful lunch and we want to come back for dinner. As a side mention, I've come here a few times for happy hour. Great specials on drinks and food. Get a glass of the sparkling Alice (rose)."

  • "My wife and I wanted to have a nice, elegant lunch for our wedding anniversary. The staff was notified and very responsive and friendly. We were greeted w complimentary flutes of sparkling wine. They gave us a very nice table and the staff was friendly and solicitous. The food was excellent."

  • "The food was very good, not outstanding. I think they are trying to fashion themselves as trying to compete with the top restaurants like Komi or Minibar, but they have some work to do to reach that level. Impressive Italian wine list. The food on the tasting menu, except for one dish, didn't strike me as particularly Italian or Mediterranean."

  • "This was the first time I dined at Fiola - I guess I had high expectations since it got a good Zagat rating. And I definitely think the food has potential to be great - except almost everything is over-oiled. I had a mixed greens salad that was glistening with oil - I could not taste the veggies. It really beats the purpose of a healthy course (even though it is good olive oil, it is still greasy). Basically everything we had was too fatty and/or sitting in a pool of oil. I think really delicious tastes were hidden there - except the overdose of oil spoiled it for us. The best dish I had was the one where oil seems to have been used with some restraint - grilled stone bass."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the six course tasting menu with John as our server. The food and service were impeccable. If Fiola has more than one John, ask for the gentlemen that resembles Dustin Hoffman. He knew the menu well, took the time to explain every detail, and had a wonderfully friendly demeanor. He is what everyone loves in a professional server. Brilliant evening. Best service we have ever received. The food rocked. Cheers to Fiola."

  • "I can say without doubt that the food I ate at Fiola was the worst I have eaten my whole life. The server was trying his best to explain the menu but he didn't seem to know much either..The fact that their menu changes everyday (this is what the server told us) isn't highlighted on the website..The only good thing about the evening was not being charged for the horrible entree I refused to eat!"
