  • "disappointed. had heard so much about it. found the atmosphere somewhat sterile and the menu very limited."

  • "This was our first time here, great ambience and very friendly staff. Service was impeccable and the food was delicious (although a tad heavy). Except for getting caught in a thunderstorm walking over - a fantastic evening!"

  • "This restaurant was excellent food stunning and our waiter Edwin was exceptional"

  • "Food was very good and definitely met reputation. But poor service wrecked the evening. Came early to sit in bar and waited 15 min before we were asked what we wanted at the bar. Seemed understaffed and servers/ bar had a "put upon" attitude. Seated at time of reservation but no follow up for another 15 min to 20 min. Waiter forgot one appetizer and rather than apologizing, made it sound like if was our fault. Waited for dessert/ coffee order forever. The food was great, but I won't go back to suffer through the service."

  • "It was my first visit to Fiola--the staff were friendly and attentive. I ordered the Colors of the Garden salad which was delicious! The tortellini, not so much. It was not bad, but the pasta was not to my liking, nor was it notably tasty. The dessert however was fantastic. I ordered a trio of sorbets: chocolate, raspberry, and basil."

  • "I would recommend Fiola because the staff was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and wines; the customer service was first-class from the moment we walked into the door. We celebrated my wife's 50th birthday and our dinner and overall experience was exceptional."

  • "This was our first trip to Fiola and we couldn't have been more pleased. From the bartender, Amy to our server, John, the entire experience was wonderful. And, the food was creative, beautiful, and more than delicious. Casa Luca for lunch and Fiola for dinner is my idea of a perfect day."

  • "Was taken here for a birthday. Menu is fantastic. Everything is great and you can share plates. Just depends on which great dish you are in the mood for. Lobster ravioli is top notch"

  • "Overrated and overpriced pretty much says it all. Tables are too close to each other as well."

  • "We celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary at Fiola Saturday night. It was a delightful evening with excellent service and outstanding food! I have been a fan of Fabio since his days at Maestro - can't wait to experience Fiola Mare in the near future! Thank you to the restaurant for a memorable evening!"

  • "No need to rush, the food, atmosphere and drinks lists will entertain you all evening long, and the service is incomparable to any other restaurant in DC. This was a very enjoyable first time experience at Fiola."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "Easily one of the best meals I have had in DC. Food simple yet perfectly prepared. The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive. Fist corse: Do as the italians do, and order a half portion of pasta to start. Even the half portion of the lobster ravioli has what appeared to be an entire lobster...phenomenal. The smoked potato gnocchi were delicate (not the typical Americanized dough balls) with just a hint of smokiness, and accompanied with pig cheek and and trumpet mushrooms. Highly recommended. Entree: I had the stone bass, wife at the tenderloin. We would without hesitation order these again. I can not stress how great this meal was for us. Don't be turned off by the price, one of the few in DC actually worth it."

  • "a true italian restaurant in dc. the food is outstanding and beautifully presented."

  • "Dined here for lunch. I had the gnocchi special and my husband had the signature lobster ravioli. Both were delicious! Manager/Somilier gave us each a sample glass of Viognier to bring out the favors of our dishes. Wonderful lunch and we want to come back for dinner. As a side mention, I've come here a few times for happy hour. Great specials on drinks and food. Get a glass of the sparkling Alice (rose)."

  • "My wife and I wanted to have a nice, elegant lunch for our wedding anniversary. The staff was notified and very responsive and friendly. We were greeted w complimentary flutes of sparkling wine. They gave us a very nice table and the staff was friendly and solicitous. The food was excellent."

  • "Fiola is a truly wonderful restaurant. The food is exquisitely prepared and each dish was unusual and wonderful. The service is first rate and everyone, including the busboys and reception staff, are well trained and friendly. Kudos go to Farhart Haq, the general manager, who came to our table several times to be sure everything was satisfactory. When we told him we were great fans of Chef Trabocchi's former restaurant in Virginia (Maestro) and were celebrating our 49th anniversary that night, he graciously took us back to the kitchen after dinner to meet the chef and staff. Although not inexpensive, given the quality of the food and service, we did not think that the cost of dinner was out of line (as we do at some restaurants)."

  • "The food was very good, not outstanding. I think they are trying to fashion themselves as trying to compete with the top restaurants like Komi or Minibar, but they have some work to do to reach that level. Impressive Italian wine list. The food on the tasting menu, except for one dish, didn't strike me as particularly Italian or Mediterranean."

  • "This was the first time I dined at Fiola - I guess I had high expectations since it got a good Zagat rating. And I definitely think the food has potential to be great - except almost everything is over-oiled. I had a mixed greens salad that was glistening with oil - I could not taste the veggies. It really beats the purpose of a healthy course (even though it is good olive oil, it is still greasy). Basically everything we had was too fatty and/or sitting in a pool of oil. I think really delicious tastes were hidden there - except the overdose of oil spoiled it for us. The best dish I had was the one where oil seems to have been used with some restraint - grilled stone bass."

  • "If you cannot find Fiola, keep in mind the entrance is on Indiana Avenue, not where the address says it should be."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the six course tasting menu with John as our server. The food and service were impeccable. If Fiola has more than one John, ask for the gentlemen that resembles Dustin Hoffman. He knew the menu well, took the time to explain every detail, and had a wonderfully friendly demeanor. He is what everyone loves in a professional server. Brilliant evening. Best service we have ever received. The food rocked. Cheers to Fiola."

  • "I can say without doubt that the food I ate at Fiola was the worst I have eaten my whole life. The server was trying his best to explain the menu but he didn't seem to know much either..The fact that their menu changes everyday (this is what the server told us) isn't highlighted on the website..The only good thing about the evening was not being charged for the horrible entree I refused to eat!"

  • "My son and I went here for lunch to celebrate my birthday. The entire staff went out of their way for us. We ordered a lot of starters each one was better than the next. Can not go wrong with anything you chose"

  • "We were a party of 7, taking a colleague for a retirement lunch. Fiola satisfied all palettes -- those the prefer simple pleasures to those who prefer a more experimental menu. Our server was kind and gracious -- there when he needed to be and not when he didn't. He went out of his way to make our friend feel special on her big day in a way that didn't feel audacious. I think Fiola got 7 new customers that day -- well done!"

  • "Excellent food. The veal chop with prosciutto was perfectly cooked and in a fascinating sauce. The lobster ravioli was rich and satisfying and the drinks were tasty and different. Couple all this with excellent service (thanks Jessica!) and all was well with the minor exception of a sauce on the asparagus which didn't quite taste right. But that was taken care of nicely. All in all, a wonderful pre-theater (or indeed any other time) choice for fine food in a nice setting."

  • "This was our first visit to the restaurant, occasioned by the celebration of our wedding anniversary. Everything - the food and the service - was outstanding. The bufalo mozzarella from Puglia was delicious, and the salad greens were fresh and plentiful. The papardelle was quite good, but the cavatelli with white truffles was truly extraordinary. We ended with the boboloni dessert, which didn't disappoint. John our waiter, described each dish as he served them, as he did with the wine. We were fortunate to sit next to 2 Italian chefs from another high end DC Italian restaurant, also enjoying an excellent meal, who provided us with eating and drinking recommendations for an upcoming trip to Italy."

  • "My fiancee and I were celebrating a special night. The waiter picked up on this immediately and went out of his way to make the meal amazing. He comped us soups, an extra glass of champagne, and a fantastic mouse dessert. Our meals were incredible, too--I had the rockfish, and she had the gnocchi. Just a fantastic night. We will definitely go back for other special occasions."

  • "I've been there 3-4 times for lunch and each time I try to figure out why I don't go there more often. The food is simply delicious. I don't know what they do but the pasta is fabulous and I love getting a salad too."

  • "Haven't been to Fiola in several months. It was great to dine there again and see their food offerings had not slipped."

  • "Nearly the whole experience was amazing - except for the noise level from the bar, which affected the ability to hear your companions around our table in the main dining room."

  • "I took my colleague and our driver to dinner as she was leaving on a trip to Europe. I had the sockeye salmon and a side of snap peas and asparagus. The salmon was terrific, moist, flavorful and beautifully presented. The asparagus and snap peas were excellent, prepared in a creamy caper sauce. My colleague ordered the lobster ravioli. She said the sauce was too salty so she lifted the lobster and ravioli onto a side plate and was able to finish it now."

  • "We went to Fiola for a business dinner and were really wowed by the wonderful food. The service was attentive without being intrusive. We started with cocktails, shared appetizers, including tuna tartare and a side dish of asparagus and cauliflower. For an entree, I had the branzino which was simply grilled and absolutely delicious. We also had the chard and baby artichokes which were simmering in a light tomato broth. My colleague had the monkfish which he said was excellent. We shared a chocolate dessert, and we also were served a complimentary piece of strawberry cake with chocolate frosting and a pistachio crust. It was a delightful meal. I look forward to the next opportunity to dine at Fiola."

  • "Fiola shone very brightly when I dined there - on ambrosial dorade with a prosecco zabligone and caviar. I am rushing right back this week. It was superb and my out of town business guest said she hadn't eaten so well for a very very long time!"

  • "The food was very well prepared from the salad, the oysters, the main course, and to the desserts. The waiter, his name is Pi or Pai, sorry for the spelling, was great. He was easy going yet attentive, and he made sure we had a great dining experience. Other than the three people seated in a half moon shaped booth facing us, who had to? or was staring at us the whole time they were there, the evening was fabulous."

  • "We went to Fiola with some friends for dinner. The service was somewhat absent minded as there were long periods prior to ordering and in between courses when our server just disappeared. The food was good but very, perhaps even unnecessarily, rich. In terms of appetizers the salad was oddly salty, and the burrata wasn't quite as fresh and creamy as it was billed. The pappardelle ragu came with an unexpected brown sauce that was a bit odd. The spaghetti frutti di mare was a disappointment; the spaghetti was undercooked and the sauce nonexistent. The wine list was impressive, covering each region of Italy, but entirely overpriced with the average bottle going for $100-$150."
