Diner Reviews
  • " Many friends gave good reports on food, ambiance etc but with strong warnings regarding the prices. I went knowing I had to be alert to the nuances of the prices. In fact, this was true. Some items i.e.are charged by the pound and some by the piece. If I had not been cautioned I might not have realized this detail and ended up being surprised by my bill thus disappointed in the experience. As it was our party chose with care and with an eye to the price of each item. Everything we tried was excellent and the bill was in keeping with the quality. The waiter made a very nice gesture. I requested a cocktail with 1/2 liquor the non-drinker present teased about bringing him the balance. waiter brought @ at no charge.. a virgin drink"

  • "Rare water view restaurant that is upscale and elegant offering unique and painstakingly prepared offerings. Foodies will enjoy this gem! No detail in presentation is overlooked and every bite is to be savored. Little touches like the sweet treats offered at the end of dinner were perfection! Ours were the best almond nibble I've ever had and small macaroons that melt in your mouth. Take the corporate card! The prices are also over the top, but the food, ambiance and service did not disappoint."

  • "The presentation and quality of food was amazing! We sat outside on the patio and the service was attentive and personalized. We took our son for his birthday and they made sure he felt special. Would definitely return again."

  • "We had dinner this past weekend at Fiola Mare. The restaurant was stylish and in an amazing location. Our server, Nesko, was incredible! He knew everything on the menu, including how each dish was made, suggested excellent pre-dinner drinks, and offered knowledge of wine pairings with each of our dishes. All of our entrees were phenomenal, after which we were greeted by unbelievable desserts. Overall, our entire experience was great!"

  • "The restaurant came HIGHLY recommended and we were not disappointed. The waiter, Michael, was very personable and attentive. We were there for Sunday brunch celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary. We were greeted with complimentary drinks (those Bellini's were a delicious discovery!) and dined on seafood. My husband enjoyed the raw oysters and lobster-stuffed crab cake and I (who enjoys taking risks with dishes I've never heard of) chose the skate wing. Our waiter made it sound too good to pass up and he was absolutely correct! I was very pleasantly surprised and practically licked the plate! We definitely plan to return--next time for dinner."

  • "My one complaint is that the food was rushed. I was not finished eating my appetizer and my meal arrived. I hate to be rushed through a meal especially at those prices."

  • "We had a wonderful birthday celebration dinner. Food was fabulous and the service wonderful. Only a minor disappointment that we didn't get a table with a water view. All and all, it was a great evening."

  • "From Valet to cuisine to the service, it was indeed, a special evening. I am only sorry I do not have the name of our waiter. Whomever, he was splendid in every respect and expertly complemented the overall experience. Upon arrival at the valet station we were met by 2 fellows, one of which anticipated my jacket in the back seat and graciously held the coat for me to adorn. We were met with a warm greeting inside by a truely sparkling young woman who took us to our table. We were promptly introduced to our waiter who throughout the evening was exceptionally friendly, professional, knowledgable and confident. A party of 4 we were unanimously appreciative of each and every offering, both presentations and cuisine."

  • "Lobster so tough and rubbery I could barely cut it with a knife. 'Lump crab' flakes so tiny they must be eaten with a spoon. The heirloom tomatoes were delicious. But if this salad was a 'special' I have no desire ever to go back and sample any of the 'ordinary' items on the menu -"

  • "I have heard all of thr buzz about this restaurant and I must say my exspectations were exceeded! This is the best restaurant in the area!!"

  • "After spending a delightful evening at the sibling restaurant, Fiola, we had high hopes for Fiola Mare. While food was ok, but in small portions, be prepared for the sticker shock of the menu prices: $18 for a green salad and $40 for lobster ravioli. With fish sold by the pound, be prepared to spend $50-$60 for a plate. Service was spotty: long intervals between server sightings. The wine list is extensive, with bottles running from the high $30s to several thousand $$. All in all, can't say that the meal was a good value."

  • "Beautiful restaurant, great service - although a little inattentive towards the end but the food is the true star. From start to finish, everything was wonderful. I will return soon."

  • "My party of four had an outstanding dinner at Fiola Mare. The food and service were excellent and we had a table overlooking the kitchen which provided added thrills. Georgetown finally has a true dining destination."

  • "Exceptional experience at dinner personal greeting by host and waiter for Birthday. Service and timing perfect on food and wine. If you want a special and highly polished experience with incredible quality on pasta and seafood make a reservation here. I will return often!"

  • "We have fond memories of chef Fabio Trabocchi's cooking at Maestro. We were somewhat disappointed when we went to Fiola shortly after it opened. But now with Fiola Mare, Fabio seems to have hit his stride again. While the menu's offerings were somewhat limited, the food we ordered was delicious: the Colors of the Garden salad wasn't as superb as I expected it to be, but very good. The burrata was wonderful, though not as fresh as it was at Maestro. My bucatini pasta dish with prawns was fabulous--the sauce had a slightly sweet, almost creamy taste. The lobster ravioli my husband ordered was divine--with over a pound of fresh lobster in it. Save room for the desserts--they were terrific! Our server and sommelier gave us great recommendations"

  • "A friend and I had the 3-course prix fixe lunch menu. Each course was excellent - a watermelon gazpacho with incredibly fresh lump crabmeat, arctic char with clams on a farro risotto, and a fresh pineapple sorbet with macerated strawberries. Not only was the food delicious, the service was top-notch and the setting lovely. I will go back as soon as I can and am happy to recommend it to friends."

  • "We arrived at 7:55 for an 8:00 reservation. We were seated at 8:20. Per other reviews here, not an uncommon occurrence. We spent the interim at the bar where a masterful bartender made exceptional cocktails for $15.00 each. Our table was just outside the main dining room which seemed to be so loud that being there would have ruined the evening. Our table was somewhat quieter. Our softshell crab appetizer was a single crab loaded with so much garnish that the crab taste was all but lost. We shared a large bronzino, which was perfectly prepared and deboned tableside. It was our anniversary and the staff acknowledged that with a complimentary cocktail when we got seated and desert. We had a lovely and very expensive evening."

  • "I wanted to dine outside even though the staff was reluctant. They were right as it rained like crazy but my friends from California loved the rain and we stayed outside nonetheless. The food was absolutely fantastic. I had the arctic char and the chocolate dessert. Divine."

  • "There isn't any, of course: it's the fish they are making the splash here. It must be the cost associated with sourcing the little darlings combined with Georgetown rents that make the prices positively jaw dropping. I'm never opposed to throwing lots o cash at the promise of a grand time over really good food. But there is no grand time here. The waiter read the entire menu to us like a school boy who had just learned the pledge of allegiance. Conversations were continually interrupted with unnecessary questions and the staff has apparently not yet learned that ladies should be served first. All this with views of the lazy polluted Potomac. The whole experience is akin to buying a first class ticket and ending up in coach."

  • "I had a 9;15 reservation for dinner, when I got there the table was not ready so we were seated at the bar. The bartender was great, very friendly, gave great recommendations and remembered my name. table was ready at 9:50. I'm not complaining I had the whole branzino that was outstanding, however they only had the choice of 2 sides a potato or artichokes, we ordered both. Potatoes were bad and they had no alternative starch. Server was very nice he knew we didn't like potatoes so he brought us bread and complimentary salads. I wish they had more choices of sides especially since the potato (which everyone eats potato) was smoky flavored and I wasn't feeling it .I would go back, the place has a great ambience and is very carb conscious:))"

  • "Be prepared for a long wait to get a table, even with a reservation. The food is excellent once it gets to the table but everything before and after is overrated. This restaurant is more a place to see and to be seen than to enjoy a pleasant and relaxing meal."

  • "Enjoyed a fabulous evening with friends celebrating my 50th; food was delicious (we had the frutti di mare, gazpacho with lobster, ravioli with lobster, gnocchi with Adriatic brodetto, rockfish with tarragon and a variety of desserts..all well-prepared and flavorful). The service was attentive, great view of the Potomac and sunset, lively atmosphere but quiet enough to have a good conversation. The bar area was light and lovely, which was appreciated because we waited 45 minutes to be seated (the only drawback) with an 8 pm reservation. I believe this was due to VP Biden and wife Jill dining that evening as well. After they left, several parties were seated."

  • "Finally, a great restaurant in Washington Harbor. Beautiful setting, spotless service, excellent menu selections, food quality, range of choice and wine list."

  • "This was my first time at this hot spot on the Georgetown waterfront. Nice views of the Potomac River. Food was very good--I had gazpacho and bronzino, and my guest had the mozzarella salad and halibut. All was excellent. Service was attentive, but not overly so. Pretty good wine list. It's expensive, but this is Washington, DC at a trendy place. I would dine there again."

  • "Every morsel of food we tried was meticulously prepared. We were especially impressed with the simply grilled Branzino that was de-boned tableside. However, it comes with a hefty price tag - $70 for a lovely piece of fish. Shirley Temple's for our child clocked in at $5 each. Oysters are $3 each, higher than the DC norm. It is a lovely experience, with well orchestrated table service, valet (tho costs another $15), and views of the river. I would go back for a special occasion, or for just some oysters and wine at the bar. Despite the luxe prices & atmosphere, was quite surprised at the number of people walking in wearing t-shirts, shorts & flip-flops. Either you have an old-fashioned attitude (like me), or you can pretend it's LA."

  • "I appreciated the excellent food and wonderful service. The menu had unique items on it that you normally won't find at the other restaurants in DC. The staff gave me their full attention. This is a very classy establishment and a good contrast to the other restaurants along with Georgetown waterfront. The menu was a bit pricey but by all means WORTH IT! It felt good to finally go to a restaurant in DC where the food is worth the cost of the meal."

  • "We love Fiola and we now love Fiola Mare even more. A most memorable meal and it's location can't be beat. The Arctic char was superb-- but one can't make a wrong choice. Save room for dessert!"

  • "As would be expected from a noted chef, the food was wonderful. The three of us enjoyed every dish, and the presentation was lovely. The waiter was smart and personable without being too friendly or aloof. It is a beautiful space with good views of the River. While it is expensive, you will leave believing that it was money well spent."

  • "We had a very nice evening, but there were 2 minor glitches. We were seated at a table without a view, so we asked if there was another table. The hostess cheerfully left to see. She returned to take us to a table that was so bad (even with a view) that I couldn't believe the table existed. It was tucked between the water station and a door. The only way it could have been worse would be if the bathroom was near! Fiola Mare, give up that table!!! You've got plent of space! We were able to move back, thankfully, although the hostess was much less pleasant this time. Then we had to ask for bread 2x. Our server was charming, and the food was good but not the best meal I've ever had, even though the server's suggestions. I like Fiola better."

  • "My friend and I enjoyed a sumptuous repast at Fiola Mare on Wednesday, July 2nd. It was the first visit for both of us. We chowed down on the fresh oysters, had caprese and gnocchi, sampled the Dover sole and another fish followed by dessert and port. We agreed that it was a fine way to celebrate my friend's birthday and my version of the Queen's birthday (since mine is in February). We shall return! The only problem was finding the front entrance which is on the extreme west side of Washington Harbor. Better signage would be appreciated."

  • "It's true that great food and a beautiful ambiance will draw you in to a restaurant, but the service will have you coming back. Brigitte has been a star server on my recent visits and her recommendations are always spot on. I feel well cared for at Fiola Mare, and when I bring my husband and friends here, I feel proud that my guests have had an extraordinary dining experience. Bellisimo!"

  • "Like others have said, food is good, atmosphere chic, prices exorbitant. Outdoor patio and main room are inviting, the side inner rooms, not so much. Place sort of has that Cafe Milano Eurotrash feel, not necessarily in a bad way. Our waiter was charming and competent, albeit a bit too rushed to maintain the level of service one might expect. Seafood was really excellent - Chesapeake Bay eel an unusual appetizer, and large piece of whole calamari was tender and nicely cooked. Garden salad extremely fresh and deliciously dressed. We had a great time, but hard to justify a $350 bill for 2 very often."
