Diner Reviews
  • "A large group of us decided to meet last min on a Friday night. Finz was able to accommodate at reservation for 8 that I booked day of. Once we got there we needed to add to our group and they were able to without a problem add chairs to our table. The waitress was great because our group ordered a mix of appetizers entrees and drinks and then split the bills at the end of the night without a problem."

  • "I am allergic to shellfish but still dine here and bring friends and colleagues. The food is outstanding. A must have is the Baked Goat cheese appetizer. I typically order a filet or steak and would love it if they had more selections for a non-fish eater but my fellow diners absolutely love the seafood here. Don't miss the chocolate chip cookie pie if you have room, portions are a plenty and they do a great job with the simplest sides like mashed potatoes... the way they should be."

  • "Arriving on time for our reservation, we were told they were running about 10 minutes late - no problem - waited in the bar area. The 10 minutes really turned into 30 before we were seated at our table. We believe this was because the weather was good and so many people decided to come out on a Saturday Night. The service was attentive, food was good and we enjoyed a delightful dinner with friends."

  • "Our waitress was outstanding. We told her we wanted to sit and talk for a while and she discretely came by every 5 min. or so until we motioned to her that we were ready to order. I had the seafood stew which was very good and very filling. Full of fish, mussels and scallops. My friends had the grilled scallops which she said were excellent. The view was out to a harbor area, but at least we could see water. I suspect in the summer months this place would be very crowded, but on a cold April night it was calm and nice."

  • "I originally made the reservations on line and arrived five minutes early. We were seated immediately. The waitstaff was excellent. They did not hover but were always there to answer questions and provide advice. The food was great. The aappetizers were wonderful. I dislike calamari but it was great. The oysters were excellent. The seafood stew was out of this world. I would go again."

  • "Food was tasty (even from the Gluten-Free menu) but for the price there could have been more. Fish Stew (priced at $23) contained a decent amount of fish, but mostly a tuna-like fish. There was just one shrip, one scallop and lots of onions. The Sirloin Steak (priced at $24) was definitely a gem as it was cooked to perfection and came with potato and grilled asparagus. Overall a decent, but expensive night out."

  • "If you're looking for a good place to eat anywhere around the greater Boston area or Northshore, Finz is a must. The bar is always crowded as well as the dining room. Best food around. They always have interesting fish dishes that nobody else has."

  • "Came to Salem for a suprise party on a Saturday nite and was recommended to Finz for Friday nite dinner..thank you to whomever recommended it!! It was delightful, and delicious !!"

  • "It had been a year or so since I've been to FinZ. It seemed like the menu has change for the worst in my opinion. It went from food that was carefully crafted to now serving food that's quick and easy to get out to the customers. I ordered Paella -- It was not Paella like they served in the past but rather whatever left over apps they had served with some bland saffron rice and a hint of sauce."

  • "We were visiting the Peabody Essex Museum and wanted a restaurant nearby. The reviews for this restaurant were very positive so we tried it and were not disappointed. Food was very good and staff was friendly and courteous. We will certainly eat here again when we are in Salem."

  • "Every single dish somehow better than the last, absolutely amazing seafood and steak so good that all other steakhouses are just ruined for life for me. Amazing. Would eat here every day if I could."

  • "First time at Finz and my wife and I were very happy with the choice. Canadian Salmon and Scallops were great, and the choc. chip cookie pie was fantastic."

  • "I would skip the meal and order just cocktails next visit. They seem to have gone downhill a bit - maybe because of Turner Fisheries new presence in Salem. I will give it another try in the Summer because the deck is spectacular. Service was amazing, as always."

  • "Restaurant is decorated beautifully and the food was top notch. I recommend getting a seat by the windows."

  • "Friendly greeting. There were a fair amount of tables open when we arrived. The table we got was very close to the kitchen. Not my favorite spot. Too busy and noisy. I didn't speak up to ask for another table because I didn't want to make a scene on a special night. My strong suggestion to the hosts is to ask if this table would be ok, when there are so many other choices. Food was great and service was just right."

  • "Great spot for a Valentine's Day. I'm not a seafood fan but they had a great steak option & dessert was very food. I would not recommend if you are worrying about nutrition & counting calories but great place for a cheat meal."

  • "4 of us went for dinner and the place was not busy except for the 2 buses which came in. The food was fabulous as usual...we got the goat cheese appetizer and then had the fish tacos and we're quite full. Quality seafood does not disappoint as our friends had the seafood special which they loved"

  • "We always choose Finz when we are with friends and want a northshore experience where the food is terrific, location can be romantic or just fun with friends. Of course Pickering wharf area in Salem is so much fun and a bit funky. Just a nice spot when you want to kick up your night out experience."

  • "My daughter and son-in-law Ajay were back in Boston for the holidays and we took the family out for lunch for Ajay's birthday. Ten adults and a ten month old in a good restaurant doesn't always work out well but it did at Finz. The food was GREAT (again) and the service was very good. It was a good family/birthday outing with all impressed with our meals."

  • "I went with my girlfriend for a christmas present dinner and we had an amazing time. The food was perfect. Our server was incredible. And for the amount of food we ordered the bill wasn't actually so bad. We recommed this restaurant much more than the seafood resstarunts in Boston."

  • "Maybe our expectations were too high as I've wanted to visit Fin's for a long time, over two years. It routenly comes up on Open T as one of the top ten for atmosphere and Seafood. Thus Expectations were high, but in the end everything was just ok. Too many other places around to try until having to go back. Quincy, MA"

  • "Tomatoes on a Caesar salad? Hardly a problem, but it makes one wonder about the kitchen. After a long wait, an otherwise good paella comes out with battered calamari in it. Wrong, just wrong. The swordfish was overcooked. Service was attentive and the room is very nice. The price point is decent. Just a pep talk in the kitchen could fix this."

  • "Everyone can find something to suit their appetite at Finz.. Fresh seafood and great starters. The fried oysters and the brussels were excellent. and plentiful. Going back soon."

  • "Finz has a great, lively atmosphere on the water and can cook fish almost perfectly every time. Good cocktails, incredible appetizers (the tuna over soba noodles and warm goat cheese dish in particular). They're lacking, though, on the additions to the dishes. The potatoes were overcooked, the vegetables steamed and boring. Service was so-so, the waitress didn't bring us water for about an hour. I would still go back though"

  • "Ate their Restaurant Week and the limited menu. There were 4 of us. This restaurant is nice, but loud, I will say that we all enjoyed our appetizers. Mine was oysters on the half shell so hardly a lot of prep but everyone else enjoyed theirs. Entree. Wife had flounder, one short rib, two shrimps. Everybody but myself enjoyed their entrees. I had the shrimp and raviolis. Raviolis overcooked, generally tasteless. Two shrimp with paprika, red tomato sauce, bland. Did not taste bad but ehhh. A co-diner liked hers, although she also said ravioli's were overdone. Desert limited to key lime pie and pumpkin cheesecake, Pie was good cheesecake was terrible. Service friendly but waitress had to be reminded twice not enough missing silverware."

  • "Having driven 1-1/2 hours to experience a new taste-treat, I wasn't disappointed at all in the food, location, or service. My food was above average and nicely prepared with good quality fish, however, my husband felt his Lobster Mac and Cheese was overwhelmingly "cheesy". Our waitress was fantastic and seemed to always appear when we needed her with a smiling face and a quick response. Unfortunately for us, we could hardly hear ourselves think as there was a huge party of approximately 20 just tables away. They were getting increasingly loud, walking around, and those at other tables appeared to be irritated, as well. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone looking for a quiet, romantic meal!"

  • "The food at Finz is certainly worth the trip. Getting seated with a reservation is certainly not a problem. Not too sure about walk ins. The service was ok. Wasn't nearly as attentive as I would have liked. The tiny table we were sat at caused a spillage of a $10 glass of wine because there was no room to put anything anywhere. No one offered to refill the wine, so I paid $10 for about 3 sips. The food was excellent. This was the second time I went to Finz, and I think the first time a year ago was better. I was there celebrating my 1st wedding anniversary and asked for a table that was kind of quiet and rather than getting anything even remotely quiet we were sat next to a loud baby shower at what felt like the smallest table in existence."
