Diner Reviews
  • "Fino's has a good brunch! I loved the Shrimp and grits, the Frittata was a bit plain, the salmon and scrambled eggs were said to be good. The salmon is mixed into the eggs not separate as thought. If you are very hungry, order a side with your salmon and eggs or your frittata. We had Manchego biscuits and they were great."

  • "There were 7 of us at the table, 4 of us gluten-free diners. It was a rare treat to be able to order food for 7 and have everything on the table be gluten free. We could all share everything. Thank you, FINO. It's worth a trip to Austin to dine there."

  • "Nothing better than OK. Nice patio dining for appropriate weather and good cocktails. Food is pretty ordinary."

  • "I've been before for the lunch menu and didn't love it, but their brunch was amazing! You can make reservations, which is a plus. My only disappointment was not being able to sit out on their gorgeous patio because it was cold outside."

  • "When I was looking for a place to celebrate my birthday with a group of friends, I thought it would be the perfect choice. . Unfortunately, although the food was very good, the service was nothing to talk about. We went on a Monday night so it is not like they were 'in the weeds". From the bartender who served us a drink at the bar (we were the only ones there) to the waitress that took our order at the table, we were never engaged, no better ever wished me a Happy Birthday, basically for lack of better words, they were "just there". Although the food was great, most likely, I will not be returning as there are too many other options in Austin where you are greeted with a friendly face."

  • "We usually go to FINO for special occasions and always enjoy the great food and ambiance. This visit was great as usual. New menu items are a joy to experiment with and never disappoint. We have now decided this isn't just for special occasions - very reasonably priced and excellent all around"

  • "Our 15-year-old granddaughter chose Fino's for our brunch on Sunday. She made the reservation for her, her sister and us on OpenTAble. She particularly likes your steak and eggs dish. I suggested other places to go after church on Sunday, but she chose Fino's."

  • "Food was creative at the expense of being tasty. Service was slow."

  • "When downtown is insane (ACL, SXSW, F1) I always take guests here. It's delicious, fun, easy to get to and easy to park."

  • "Their brunch is one of the best in town. It's a great location - easy to get to, easy to park, great decor - and the staff and the food are always outstanding."

  • "I went to this restaurant in a group of 6. Out of the 12 dishes we received, we disliked approximately 7. Also, our server bordered on contempt in his dealings with us. We were very polite to him, and were all baffled by his demeanor. Of all the positive food experiences in Austin, this was our only negative."

  • "Room a bit hard and noisy. Food well prepared. Tapas and Mediterranean focus"

  • "Ate here with my brother and the atmosphere was perfect. We had a few cocktails and ate the seafood dish. Absolutely wonderful and would recommend the restaurant to others."

  • "Luckily, FINO has an outdoor dining area where it was much quieter than inside where it was very noisy. It was a bit cool at first. The heaters in the ceiling helped when the wind died down. The wine was a bit expensive and the dinner was somewhat high in price, but generally, very good. We thought the falafels were very light and outstanding. I like horseradish on mine and the waiter had some ground some up fresh. I was astounded to actually have 2 waiters who kept coming back periodically. The service was excellent."

  • "Absolutely delicious tapas and small plates full of yummy flavors and farm to table tasty explosions in your mouth. When you're outside or inside you're surrounded by a beautiful environment, kind staff and a tranquil experience awaiting any special occasion. This was my first date with an amazing lady and I couldn't have picked a better place. :-)"

  • "A hostess called 2 days ahead of my Valentine's Day reservation and told me the restaurant required a credit card deposit of $50.00 and 24-hours cancellation notice. I thought this was rather rude and unnecessary. $50.00 is about twice as much as I would pay for a missed doctor appointment, and don't restaurants frequently get late requests for dinner reservations? I could understand requiring a 2 hour notice and a small deposit, but not this policy. In any case, nothing came up and we made it to dinner. The meal was very delicious and perfectly served. I especially liked the red pepper appetizer (muhumarra?), the chicken paella, and the galatibeureko dessert. 5 stars if the $50.00 reservation risk doesn't bother you."

  • "We found the food over all to be very good. Service staff knew thier stuff and were prompt. Portions small. My salmon entre was about a 1 1/2 inch cube. Outside area with heaters a big plus."

  • "Poorly trained host and servers ruin an otherwise positive dining experience. Need to increase the staffing budget to attract some actual talent."

  • "The wait staff was attentive with a positive attitude and the outdoor seating area was nicely organized with enough space between tables to give you privacy. It was a beautiful afternoon and the balcony a perfect place to be. The food, however, was fine. Nothing particularly great, all dishes a bit on the salty side. We were underwhelmed and we won't be going back."

  • "This place is a must for those looking for a gem. Food is fantastic, the Savory waffle was outstanding, as was the other treasures we enjoyed. The Eggs benedict, Prawns& Grits, and Scrambled eggs & salmon were all exceptional, and the pepper sauce just gave it that extra kick I love. Loved all we ordered and will return. Outside dining on a warm day was beautiful, as is dining inside. Service was great, attentive, but not standing over. seating is very comfortable, and nice."

  • "The staff and food were excellent. I look forward to eating there and trying more of there unusual and delicious sounding selections. The blistered peppers were not too spicy, but a light appetizer with just the right amount of zing."

  • "We came for the seafood Paella (spectacular), but the wine, mussels and pork appetizers were fantastic."
    Dined on 2/1/2014
  • "The appetizers we ordered were tasty, but nothing special. Everything was SUPER small portions. I expect a foodie-magnet, uber-hip, hoity toity place like this will have undersized, overpriced appetizers, but these were a little too undersized and a little too overpriced. If they'd each been two bites of amazingness, I would have been okay with it. I will say that the drinks were DELISH. Good place to go if you are not that hungry and are just into fancy drinks! (I am, fortunately, very into fancy drinks...but unfortunately was too hungry at our visit to let the drinks be the deciding factor.) VERY, VERY, VERY noisy."

  • "We have enjoyed Fino on several occasions but our last visit was maybe the best yet. The setting was comfortable and quiet and our server was attentive and friendly and gave us a perfect wine following my not so perfect description of what we like! The variety of flavors we chose with the small plates were heavenly. Really enjoyed the seasonal dish with squash in a pasta and rich cream sauce, which was satisfying yet still not too heavy. The falafel and sea salt pork skewers my husband ordered were excellent and all were served hot. We especially enjoyed the special which was the spicy potatoes which are often served in Spain. Delicious!"

  • "The current menu (Nov 2013) is not up to Fino's usual standards. Too much cream -- I think they decided it was winter and it was time to go with an overly heavy menu. Still some great flavors -- it's just more hit or miss than usual. I'll wait a few months and give them another chance with the next version of the menu... they have been excellent in the recent past. (And the "tapas" / appetizer menu, which does not change much, is always great.)"

  • "As we arrived at Fino, we were surprised to find the atmosphere so inviting. Soft music was playing in the background and the tables set outside including a very nice lounging area complete with couches to melt into. The appetizers were notably delicious and the main entry was heavenly. My date commented on how sweet and peaceful yet alive Fino's was. We enjoyed the experience so much we posted it all over our social sites. Thank you Fino for a very nice and warm reception."

  • "My wife and I love to eat at Fino because the food is consistently good and it is quiet. We usually have the paella which is delicious but the other night we tried the fall tasting menu with wine pairings. Everything was great from beginning to end. It was a cool Austin evening so we ate outdoors on the elevated patio. Wonderful!"

  • "The food was fresh, natural, clean and so delicious. We loved everything we ordered. And, we ordered a lot! Don't let the odd location deter you. The restaurant has done an excellent job with decor. We ate outside and it was a beautiful setting."

  • "Went on a Saturday night with good friends. The four of us shared their multi-course special dinner without the wine pairings as we started with a carafe of Sangira - rosé. The service was impeccable and the manager stopped by the table as well as assisting in the serving of several courses. The fish was slightly better than the chicken which I thought was a little dry and tough. The portions on the plates were superb. We truly enjoyed the evening."

  • "We had a wonderful time at Fino, a restaurant I usually go to for lunch. Our group of six--some old friends, some new--enjoyed cocktails, delicious wine, tapas, and small plates, and then dessert. The full meal stretched over hours, as it would in Europe. The waitress was excellent and Emmett Fox, the owner, was a kind host. I recommend Fino for everything."

  • "She was an excellent somelier who recommended outstanding wine, to go with our dishes. We followed her advise on food and wine and had the best experience ever. We left happy, and experienced food in a wonderful way. She is tall, fair and very kind, and very very smart. Congrats on great staff!"

  • "We came here for brunch last Sunday and were extremely disappointed. The service was downright terrible, and they weren't even busy! We had a reservation for 1pm, and no one came to talk to us for 10 minutes after we sat down. We had to track down someone to go find our server, and we didn't even get an apology. When our food came, no one checked to see how it was. For brunch this was rather pricey ($60 before tip for 2 people), and I expect more when I spend that kind of money."

  • "I had not been to Fino in over a year. The cocktail menu is great, and there were many new small plate and appetizer items that were perfect choices for a hot summer evening. Everyone was very happy with their selections. I am looking forward to cooler weather so that I can enjoy being outdoors on the beautiful patio."
