Diner Reviews
  • "Enjoyed the view and the salads. The French onion soup and the Drunken mushrooms were so salty, we could only eat a small portion. The filet mignon was flavorless. Good garlic mashed potatoes and broccolini."

  • "finn & porter is located right on the Clark Fork with stunning views of the river and the University. The food ranges from good to excellent and we especially enjoyed the antipasti platter which was made fresh to our specifications…excellent! My son enjoyed his pizza fresh from the oven and the steaks were quite good too. Breakfast was fresh, fast and filling- a nice way to start the day. The service is excellent from the hosts to the servers and we always enjoy dining here."

  • "We enjoyed the seafood, the view of the Clark River and Nick was very nice to kids in our group."

  • "Our reservation was at 4pm, this is "in-between" lunch and dinner service, so the staff seemed distracted, and not really interested in waiting on us. We had a calamari appetizer which was good, and my dining partner had the Halibut entree which she loved. I had completely unremarkable (previously frozen?) seared tuna on a bed Uncle Ben's white rice with some raw red onion slices... didn't make sense to me at all. Nothing about the experience justified the pricey menu. I won't be returning."

  • "My companion I was treating to lunch recommended the beet salad. Our service was excellent and our table was near the Clark Fork water view as I had requested, which made it a memorable experience for us. I was somewhat disappointed by the gumbo - it was not what I expected from reading the menu - I did not see any shrimp in it. However, on the whole, I would defintely recommend finn & porter as the place to go to for lunch. "

  • "The restaurant overlooks the river and provides a wonderful view of the mountains surrounding the city and endless entertainment watching the ducks and other birds, fishermen, and boaters. The food is excellent and the wine selection is extensive."

  • "Wonderful. Eat on deck in the sun in the sun right next to the river!"

  • "I had a little higher expectations for the food than what it turned out to be. Service was great, beautiful spot, parking was easy to find but food was lukewarm. (and barely that, my meal was almost cold)."

  • "You can't have everything! Good food, service, ambience and noise was low. My senior group settled for appetizers! I am a member of the Lions club-we meet once each Monday for lunch at your facility. Just pricey Thanks"

  • "Thank you so much for the enjoyable meal and service at Finn & Porter. We came to celebrate my daughter's 33rd. birthday with a group of her friends and really appreciated the beautiful surroundings on the Clark Fork, the attentive waitress and the delicious food. We will definitely be back."

  • "I was nicely surprised by the way the steak was cooked and presented on plate. I ordered it rare to medium, as I normally like it. It was spot on, one of the best meats served in restaurants that I can recall. My wife had the rainbow trout. She was delighted with it as well. As an appetizer, we had crab and artichoke dip. It was very tasty, although a bit too greasy due to the cheese gratin on top. For dessert, they were out of their popular creme brulee. We had to go for the cheesecake, which was pricey at $9.50 for the small portion we got. Enjoyable view overlooking the river. However, there was too much noise on Friday night. For a quieter and romantic evening, I'd suspect a school night would work better. Overall good experience."

  • "We booked a reservation for a special dinner with our son on our last night in Missoula and I am typically leery about eating in hotel restaurants but Finn and Porter exceeded our expectations. We chose it for its location on the river and we asked for a river view by the window as we were unsure about the weather that evening so we chose to dine inside. Table with amazing views and quiet! Calamari was excellent. Alder wood plank salmon Delicious. Son reported MY Strip was perfectly cooked ate four rare and husband had the tuna and reported it was excellent! Don't miss the may tag blue cheese mashed potatoes! We were too full to order dessert but they sounded good! Beer and wine selection was good I would return!"

  • "I had a wonderful dining experience the evening of August 16th. The food was excellent, so was the service. I was a little disappointed that the main entree did not include a salad. The creme' brulee dessert was outstanding. The staff goes above and beyond in the service area."

  • "We met family who were visiting Missoula. Manager was both genial and helpful in arranging a table for six with a great view of the river. Our waiter was both polite and patient in taking our orders and bringing food and drinks for 4 adults and two teenagers who were more involved in their conversations than looking at their menus and ordering. Happy hour food of pizzas and oysters was excellent and a good bargain. The waiter even took a photograph for our group."

  • "Chose the location in order to have a quiet conversation. Each time the server came by she interrupted us in mid sentence with her business instead of waiting for us to acknowledge what should have been her quiet presence. We are capable of making our needs known."

  • "The Finn & Porter has a beautiful setting with gorgeous views. Our table was next to a window with a panoramic view of river and sunset. The restaurant is plush and the waiter was attentive. We enjoyed a basil gimlet martini which was quite good. The food, however, was lacking. The razor clams were incredibly tough, but came with a wonderful sauce and multi-colored pepper vinagrette (my overall fav). The calimari was rediculous. It came in a large bowl, so appeared to be ok upon arrival. However, there was little calimari cut into what I would describe as rubber bands and the rest of the bowl was filled with what seemed to be breading from the bottom of the pan. I would recommend F&P for ambiance, but not the food."

  • "After waiting for coffee for 20 minutes, being ignored when we tried to get the server's attention, we left. Have no idea how the food tastes."

  • "The porch is the place to be! The food is very good and service is slow but engaging. Everyone is very nice."

  • "Right on the Clark Fork. Lovely view. Food not as good as previous time. Special elk medalions, not worth ordering - tough, too thin to cook rare as requested."

  • "Waitress could have been more prompt and a little more attentive.Food flavor was not up to what a 4 star restaurant should be."
    Dined on 5/19/2013
  • "Food was okay. Disappointed they did not have the seafood selections posted on the web-site or some of the draft beers. Best for window seating by the river. Nice walk from the hotel along the river trail."

  • "The service was fantastic. Our server was very patient with us while we made our drink and food selections. It was very quiet in the restaurant, but we were there early in the evening. The food was prepared quickly and brought to the table within an appropriate amount of time. The dishes were aesthetically pleasing to the eye as well as the palate."

  • "The food was decent, but not on par for the expense."

  • "Outstanding! Finn and Porter did an outstadning job for our group. Service (by Jessie Gates Brock) was impecable. There were 8 in our group, everyone ordered something diffrent, and everyone raved about the food quality. This is fast becoming one of our favorite places to go."

  • "I have been eating here for years. It never disappoints. A bit loud and a bit slow, but it was the night before the Cat Grizzly game so it is what I expected. They may have sensed we were not in a hurry. They were right."

  • "Great experience though the high prices will keep me away except for VERY special occasions."
    Dined on 10/8/2012
  • "The food was good, but not worth the price. I will pay for a great meal and great service but the food was good and service below average. We waited 45 minutes to get our meal. We were one of the only groups there for our reservation and service was excellent at that time. When things started to get busy the waitress seemed to forget about us. We were waiting for drinks contstantly and she had to make a few trips to get the right check for us. I will not go back. We should have went out to LoLo for steaks or just gone to Jakers. Finn and Porter doesn't live up to the hype!"

  • "Food and service was very good, prices were way too high. Plus you are asked if you want anchovies with a cesear salad and charged for them with no prior advisement. When your already getting beyond top dollar pricing this seems over the top in getting every nickel out of the customer."
    Dined on 9/16/2012
  • "Very expensive for what it was worth. Drink and food orders were messed up. Steaks, requested at medium, came out well-done. Would not recommend."
    Dined on 9/5/2012
  • "On the river - it is a nice view. Food was typical steak house but very good. Can't go wrong if you want a great steak or a great piece of fish."

  • "A favorite place of ours, especially for visitors to this part of Montana. Never disappoints."
    Dined on 8/22/2012
  • "This is a happening place but also great for romantic celebrations and groups. Service was truly outstanding with food and drink suggestions right on the money. Their specialty manhattan was wonderful w/maple sugar - really! Enjoyed their french onion soup too. Steaks and seafood are their top choices; however, the pork chop my companion had was excellent."

  • "My husband had the sirloin tip and thought it was good. He also had the lobster bisque and found it lacked lobster flavor. I had scallops with pasta and found both to be overcooked. The calamari we both shared was greasy and mostly breaded with very little calamari. The chocolate martini and the bread were both excellent!"
    Dined on 3/29/2012
  • "Nothing like the pictures on the website. The scalopes were rubberery and the the steak was somewhat tuff."
