  • "There are so many delightful choices on the menu, it is hard to decide: Linguini Cardinale, Vitello alla Marsala, Cannelloni Frutti de Mare, Costoletta di Vitello. Our party of four made these choices! Appetizers were funghi di spinaci and calamari alla Sicily. Gino was our server, patient and helpful on the menu, even took our picture--always had enough time for us without hovering. Vernaccia di San Gimignano was a good wine choice too."

  • "The food, service, and atmosphere are consistently good. Portions are large, but tasty. Waiter very friendly and the wait-team kept water glasses full. Felt a little less rushed than last time, but main course did seem to come out just a few minutes after ordering. We all had leftovers that tasted great the next day."

  • "Had read good reviews as to its Italian authenticity and popularity. Most peripheral services - wait staff, ambiance, convenience of location, etc were reasonable. The food however was quite another thing; it was simply awful. Our party of four ordered 3 dishes between us - the servings are rather large. The rigatoni with sausage - apparently made in house and a dish that had U2's Bono wanting more - was inedible; sharp underseasoned tomato sauce, tasteless sausage meat, and “al-dente” pasta that was just undercooked. The same tasteless drivel was apparent with the meatballs. My daughter described the lasagna as tasting as she imagined cat food would. In summary this was simply awful food! Not worth the higher than average prices."

  • "I was super disappointed in my visit..... I guess this place has seen it's hey day and has now gone downhill. I had the Eggplant Parmesan, which was salty and tasted like it was out of a grocery freezer section. The salad bar is basic, good enough. The Tiramisu was the best thing about the entire lunch. Excellent service."

  • "Our family, having heard about the 4th of July decorations, decided to make Filomena part of our celebration of the holiday this year--a great decision! The restaurant was, as promised, decorated fabulously, with Uncle Sam everywhere and a flashing version of Old Glory up on the wall. And the food was abundant and delicious! Our calamari appetizer was lightly breaded and perfectly fried, our entrees--swordfish and chicken--were delicious and beautifully presented (if we hadn't been heading to the fireworks afterwards, we probably would have, or should have, taken some home). With a great location for walking down to the waterfront, Filomena on the 4th likely will become our newest holiday tradition!"

  • "This was my 3rd time there eating at the restaurant. This last time was Very disappointing. I asked five different waiters to bring me chili peppers flakes. EVERY waiter said “ okay I will be right back" they never came back! Finally the 5th waiter brought what I asked for and my food was cold. It’s too bad, because they had so Many waiters running all around."

  • "I've been to Filomena's many times and it has never disappointed. The food first and foremost is always filling and oh so gooood. I've tried several different dishes in my visits and I've enjoyed them all. The menu seems to have something for everyone, from Pastas to Veal to seafood dishes. The food always tastes fresh and flavorful with plenty to fill you up. I had the seafood cannelloni during my last visit and it was great, the sauce was out of this world. I also had the fried mozzarella, which tasted so fresh; unlike any other fried mozzarella I've ever had. This time I had the tres leches cake, it was awesome. Service is always top notch, everyone is friendly & attentive. The ambiance is on the loud side so don't expect a quiet meal"

  • "Ordered item waiter recommended. It was horrible. Lobster was extremely overcooked. Tasted like rubber. Ate the noodles only - left all the lobster untouched on the plate. When I mentioned to the waiter that the plate he recommended was inedible his reply was "ok". Didn't offer to bring anything else or anything. Waited 15 minutes for a cup of coffee with dessert. Very loud - hard to talk at the table."

  • "A memorable experience begins just off the curb & at the front door where you'll see Nona's, greeting you with a kind smile, rolling out fresh pasta! The hostesses at the foot of the entrance are happy to see you & will show you to your table. A ood lovers paradise awaits with a couple of my favorites: a fantastic appetizer of mussels fra diavolo and then my hands down, favorite meatballs over freshly made raviolis or a deliciously grilled swordfish over amazing pappardelle. There are no wrong choices here! If you're not full as yet, the tiramasu should not be missed. Filomena, makes a perfect Italian cappuccino. I LOVE this restaurant & never miss it when I'm in DC!"

  • "My girlfriend and I came here on a Tuesday night, for our anniversary. We split the ricotta stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer and a bottle of the house Pinot noir. Server was awesome. So far so good. She had the rock fish--absolutely beautiful and delicious. I had the Tortellini Alla Michel or something. We agreed that this was undoubtedly the best Italian food we'd ever eaten in America. So stuffed we couldn't even eat dessert"

  • "Had fond memories of Filomena. Used to go there often when it first opened in the early '80's. But times have changed, and Filomena hasn't, and not for the good. The place could definitely use some freshening up, and so could the menu. all of the classics are there, but they are tired. As are the servers. In short, if you're looking for a filling meal of traditional but uninspired italian classics, and willing to pay dearly for it, and aren't willing to take a cab to Carmines in Penn Quarter (assuming you are set on traditional Italian classics), I suppose your could do worse."

  • "A large, noisy, bustling restaurant that tries to be an old style Italian family restaurant, but quite frankly, misses the mark. The portions are very large...if you like large portions of sauce covered entrees, too much to eat salads...split them if you do order one...and over the top, there is no way I can eat this desserts, this is your place...but, the food...and sauce...are ordinary at best. The service is ok, but the servers on this night had to hustle to keep up with the crowd...oh, and forget about conversation...way too noisy..."

  • "There's a lot going on at Filomena's - from the lady making gnocci in the window to the dessert display to the heavy use of plants and decor. It can be a bit distracting but the food is solid. I got "Bono's favorite" rigatoni - a little undercooked but delicious nonetheless. Portions are huge!"

  • "A greeting would be nice to begin with. After giving the front desk my name, with a reservation, I was ignored until the staff noticed me greating my dinning partner. I arrived early and watched somewhat patiently as other guests were seated immediately. It was not until my guest arrived that it became apparent that they do not seat patrons until all guests have arrived. It would have been nice to know that instead of being ignored. My very first visit. The food.. althought it looked wonderful.. it was overrated - Brunch. I love pasta but hated theirs; love fresh salmon but hated theirs; the desserts were dry and flat.. The sherry was nice. NEVER AGAIN! Not sure how they lasted in the neighborhood all these years."

  • "I have heard good things about filomena's...however, my brunch experience was not pleasant. The buffet is very small with one line...which includes the pasta and omelet station. The stations make the lines longer than necessary and you have people bumping you to access the buffet items while you are waiting for your omelet or pasta. The food is not worth the wait..it is the worst brunch I have ever had. I could have just went somewhere else for salmon and an omelet since that was the only good items available. Thank goodness I had a groupon."

  • "Went to brunch on a groupon which covered the brunch plus mimosas for 2. We brought our daughter and paid for her meal on top of it. The children's brunch was reasonably priced in comparison to the adult price. There weren't too many breakfast options, and brunch does not start until 11:30. Unfortunately when you make your reservation on this website that is not noted. You could tell all the food was homemade, and it was very rich and delicious. Would probably come here again but only for a special occasion."

  • "Fresh made gnocchi (you see two women making them in a window entrance to the restaurant). We had great service, our waiter Tony was the Man! Food was great, portions are big, and it's a vibrant, fun place to go and eat. And don't forget to have dessert! Their cheesecakes are delectable. A must go to if in Washington!"

  • "Have lived in the DC area over 40 years and never even heard of this restaurant until my daughter bought a condo across the street. Saw the name, looked it up, saw the good reviews and made the reservation (so we could use my daughter's parking space). Great place - extensive menu, large portions, and a pleasant surprise at the end - complementary Sambuca and Amaretto. Food was very good. Had a good time."

  • "My wife and I thought we were going to have a relatively quiet, romantic experience to celebrate our 2nd anniversary; instead, we got a slightly classier version of Buca Di Beppo. The food was good, but heavy and a tad over-priced. However, it was the noise level, tight seating and very loud decor that made the evening less than memorable. Clearly, a LOT of people don't mind, perhaps even enjoy the atmosphere... it just wasn't for us. Like my wife said, Filomena's is an experience we only needed to have once."

  • "Hadn't been here in 25 years. The quality of food was pretty good- the most tender calamari we've ever had. The mussels were pretty good as well although the sauce was a little bland. The portions are generous so don't over-order. We only are half our apps and entrees and were stuffed Food aside, they need to take out about 5 of the smaller tables to make it more comfortable. It's just to crowded! Diners are on top of each other and the waitstaff is challenged to maneuver without bumping into the tables. The decor is garish and dated and the lighting is terrible. Go after 8 to miss the crowds. The complimentary decanters of sambuca and port are a nice touch at the end of the meal."

The waitstaff is always willing to take a few minutes to help you decide between dishes. They are knowledgable about pairing different courses or wines with your food choice. They have fresh pasta and sauces you don't find elsewhere."

  • "Five of us really enjoyed our early dinner experience here this past Sunday. Our waiter provided attentive and excellent service, the food was delightful, and the ambience was pleasant and interesting. We went before a performance at the Kennedy Center. It was about a mile walk. The children with us (11, 13, and 16) enjoyed the pasta selections and most of all the DESSERTS! I can't wait to come back to Filomena's! There is something for everyone."

  • "We had a reservation and were seated immediately upon arriving. The staff was all on top of things. Water was refilled and plates removed promptly. The food was excellent and the dessert was amazing. The meatballs were delicious and the tomato sauce was very good. We were going to split a dessert but decided to each get our own. The servings are generous and we had leftovers of food and dessert so we got to enjoy the meal at home as well!"

The fact they still offer sambuca after dinner is refreshing-they didn't cut down on service offerings. Reasonably priced for a special ocassion or just a dinner out with the family-we loved it."
