  • "Colleagues have recommended this restaurant several times when I have made trips to DC. This was my first opportunity to go. I felt just a little underdressed but as I looked around the room I felt better. Staff members are all in ties as well as many guest but it is a tourist town so you had some in jeans. It isn't cheap food and one you taste it you can see why......AMAZING. Can't do this kind of meal everyday but you have to treat yourself every once in awhile. Purpose to take home a doggie bag :-)"

  • "I have previously fined at Filomena (with a large group) several years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed THAT experience, so I brought my wife and daughter there to show them. We were placed at a very small table (for 2) so out experience wasn't what I had hoped. Food and service was nice - but not what I would call the best. We were also given a nice after dinner drink - and that was appreciated. I'd go back - but I will likely look for other places first."

  • "I wanted to take my wife here since I saw it featured on TV. It's hard to get good Italian food in Northern VA; since she loves pasta I thought this place would be perfect. The food didn't disappoint, we are both from Northern NJ and it was as good as the restaurants in NJ/NY. The meatballs were really good and her raviolis were fresh, creamy and rich (not too rich). The price is a little higher than what we would normally spend, but I think it was reasonable for the neighborhood; the portions though were really high making the night a decent deal. I would recommend thinking about getting a main dish and maybe a side or two and eating family style (for a party of 2). The decor was a little outdated (30 years outdated), but I enjoyed it."

  • "This was my second time here, and I loved it as much as the first time. The wait staff are first-class, and the food is fantastic. I'm not a drinker, but my dinner companions all were very pleased with the options. Another plus is that the servings are so big that you end up taking leftovers home, which means you get at least two meals out of it. And their desserts are to die for. Also, as part of their Italian hospitality, after dinner they provide you with liqueur glasses and two decanters with Sambuca and Amaretto, complimentary. Again, I'm not a drinker so I can't say from my own experience, but my dinner companions tried and love both. Two thumbs up. Definitely hope to return and try more items on the menu."

  • "Visiting DC for a conference and Concierge recommended Filomena. The food was solid-daughter had shrimp dish-said too much soupy sauce but flavor was good. Prosciutto appetizer was very good. Server was terrific. The AWESOME part of the experience was the CANNOLI! Glazed pastry shell with the smoothest ricotta filling I have ever had. Not too sweet. A bit salty with bits of pistachio. OMG! Excellent coffee-sometimes a rare find even at the best places. Would go back for dessert any time."

  • "I am a very blue collar person, and live in memphis where theres not real Italian food. Filomena was the real deal. You immediately walk in to watch them home make the delicious pasta and see an extravagant dessert case. The ambiance was wonderful, the food amazing, but a bit pricey. You get what you pay for though. I h ighly recommend it if you can afford it. Two huge thumbs up."

  • "We love Filomena and we have been dining here for 29 years and it never disappoints us. Try the calamari as an appetizer if this is your first visit. We also recommend the stuffed mushrooms as well. Check the daily specials. Frequently they are spectacular. Tonight we tried some of our favorite entrees. The ravioli Matrimonia is delicious and one of our favorites. The gnocchi are also a great recommendation. We love the desserts here. When in season try the strawberry shortcake! The eclairs are also delicious and huge. The staff at Filomena are so great and they make you feel so welcome."

  • "The pictures in the men's room make a wonderful statement to describe the restaurant. They are pin-up calendar pictures from 67 years ago, from the days the women were still wearing clothes. The staff, food and ambiance are similar. Food is notable mostly for gigantic portions and classic recipes. Sauces are all very similar, and based on tomato sauce, oil, herbs and not much more. Meatballs and sausage similarly classic. Really quite good, but will be a disappointment to anybody expecting innovative or leading edge experience. Desserts looked wonderful, but we were way too fully having finished most, but not all of what we were served. The place is loud."

  • "This is one of the old stand-by restaurants in DC (Georgetown), but my wife and I, for all our years in the DC area, had never visited. We arrived early for our reservations and had to wait just a little while, but were still seated before our actual reservation time. Service was terrific throughout the meal (we got great recommendations from our waiter on several items). The portions (at dinner) were huge! My wife had ravioli with meatballs and I had the Festivale in Venezia: a Black Fettuccine in Brandy Tomato Sauce with Fresh Shrimp, Sea Scallops, and Lobster Meat. The flavors of both dishes were amazing - we had the strawberry-topped cheesecake also. It is a little loud inside, and I would recommend reservations for dinner."

  • "Filomena's is largely hype. The decor is antiquated and rather tacky. The service was slow - it took us 45 minutes to get an appetizer and bread. They didn't serve the bread when we came in. Moreover, the ambiance is terrible. It was incredibly dark. We could barely see the menu or each other. The worst part is that it is so loud. We were just four people, but we had to shout at each other across the table. Although it seems like a fancy restaurant, people come in wearing casual clothes that do not match the decor or the price range for the food. The food itself is really nothing special. The only thing good was the tomato sauce. Otherwise, it is quite unremarkable considering the price. Also, the portions are far too big."

  • "The food is very tasty though I'm not entirely sure it is worth the price. I find the kitschy ambiance pretty adorable and fitting with the old school Italian charm. I'd been before and the service was fantastic but this past time the waiter was very inattentive to the point that it took 25 minutes for us to place a drink order. They were busy but I got the impression he just thought we weren't worth his time. Oh well."

  • "The food, service, and atmosphere are consistently good. Portions are large, but tasty. Waiter very friendly and the wait-team kept water glasses full. Felt a little less rushed than last time, but main course did seem to come out just a few minutes after ordering. We all had leftovers that tasted great the next day."

  • "I've been to Filomena's many times and it has never disappointed. The food first and foremost is always filling and oh so gooood. I've tried several different dishes in my visits and I've enjoyed them all. The menu seems to have something for everyone, from Pastas to Veal to seafood dishes. The food always tastes fresh and flavorful with plenty to fill you up. I had the seafood cannelloni during my last visit and it was great, the sauce was out of this world. I also had the fried mozzarella, which tasted so fresh; unlike any other fried mozzarella I've ever had. This time I had the tres leches cake, it was awesome. Service is always top notch, everyone is friendly & attentive. The ambiance is on the loud side so don't expect a quiet meal"

  • "This was my 3rd time there eating at the restaurant. This last time was Very disappointing. I asked five different waiters to bring me chili peppers flakes. EVERY waiter said “ okay I will be right back" they never came back! Finally the 5th waiter brought what I asked for and my food was cold. It’s too bad, because they had so Many waiters running all around."

  • "There are so many delightful choices on the menu, it is hard to decide: Linguini Cardinale, Vitello alla Marsala, Cannelloni Frutti de Mare, Costoletta di Vitello. Our party of four made these choices! Appetizers were funghi di spinaci and calamari alla Sicily. Gino was our server, patient and helpful on the menu, even took our picture--always had enough time for us without hovering. Vernaccia di San Gimignano was a good wine choice too."

  • "Had read good reviews as to its Italian authenticity and popularity. Most peripheral services - wait staff, ambiance, convenience of location, etc were reasonable. The food however was quite another thing; it was simply awful. Our party of four ordered 3 dishes between us - the servings are rather large. The rigatoni with sausage - apparently made in house and a dish that had U2's Bono wanting more - was inedible; sharp underseasoned tomato sauce, tasteless sausage meat, and “al-dente” pasta that was just undercooked. The same tasteless drivel was apparent with the meatballs. My daughter described the lasagna as tasting as she imagined cat food would. In summary this was simply awful food! Not worth the higher than average prices."

  • "Our family, having heard about the 4th of July decorations, decided to make Filomena part of our celebration of the holiday this year--a great decision! The restaurant was, as promised, decorated fabulously, with Uncle Sam everywhere and a flashing version of Old Glory up on the wall. And the food was abundant and delicious! Our calamari appetizer was lightly breaded and perfectly fried, our entrees--swordfish and chicken--were delicious and beautifully presented (if we hadn't been heading to the fireworks afterwards, we probably would have, or should have, taken some home). With a great location for walking down to the waterfront, Filomena on the 4th likely will become our newest holiday tradition!"

  • "A memorable experience begins just off the curb & at the front door where you'll see Nona's, greeting you with a kind smile, rolling out fresh pasta! The hostesses at the foot of the entrance are happy to see you & will show you to your table. A ood lovers paradise awaits with a couple of my favorites: a fantastic appetizer of mussels fra diavolo and then my hands down, favorite meatballs over freshly made raviolis or a deliciously grilled swordfish over amazing pappardelle. There are no wrong choices here! If you're not full as yet, the tiramasu should not be missed. Filomena, makes a perfect Italian cappuccino. I LOVE this restaurant & never miss it when I'm in DC!"

  • "Ordered item waiter recommended. It was horrible. Lobster was extremely overcooked. Tasted like rubber. Ate the noodles only - left all the lobster untouched on the plate. When I mentioned to the waiter that the plate he recommended was inedible his reply was "ok". Didn't offer to bring anything else or anything. Waited 15 minutes for a cup of coffee with dessert. Very loud - hard to talk at the table."

  • "I was super disappointed in my visit..... I guess this place has seen it's hey day and has now gone downhill. I had the Eggplant Parmesan, which was salty and tasted like it was out of a grocery freezer section. The salad bar is basic, good enough. The Tiramisu was the best thing about the entire lunch. Excellent service."
