The food was delightful, the table romantic, the ambiance just so! The wait-staff was incredible I felt like I was in Italy! The food was to die for so delicious.   • "I love this restaurant. My advice - order from the menu and do not eat the buffet. The food was VERY salty and tasted overdone; meatballs were okay, but full of sodium and the chicken was dry-dry-dry. There was no real variety and it was mediocre and disappointing, considering it's a DC mainstay. I had a Groupon for Sunday Brunch and realized it was only for Sunday - I will use the value another time, but only to order directly from the menu!"

  • "Pretty good food, very nicely presented. Salads were especially good. Complimentary sambucca at end of meal was great. But they try to cram in too many diners so you're constantly bumped by everyone passing by. The current Easter decor is a site to behold – you've never seen so many bunnies – but some of it's creepy (bunnies with human baby faces, for instance)."

  • "everything we've tried here has been good, some of it excellent. traditional italian like ravioli and meatballs were superb, shellfish was fabulous, lasagna was a little too ordinary -- good but not outstanding. the complimentary sambuca and amaretto are a treat! don't ever go here without a reservation; the problem is, even with your reservation be prepared to wait … and wait … to be seated. it is very popular and clearly they overbook consistently because waiting is not the exception it is the norm."

We were a party of 3 squeezed into a spot in the restaurant where the very busy wait staff continually brushed by the back of the outside chair to service other patrons, not a very good practice if patrons are there for a nice relaxing dinner experience."

  • "We took advantage of a Groupon offer to try Filomena's Brunch last Sunday. We already know the Filomena's is one of our favorite dinner venues and were confident the Brunch food would favorably compare. We were not disappointed. It is a buffet, so if you are put off by that, skip it. I'm not a big fan of buffets, but this one rocks. The salad starter is fresh, offering toppings such as Italian seasoned garbanzos, a fresh vegetable medley, beets and grilled vegetables that were terrific. Leave room for the minestrone soup which was the tastiest I've ever had. Desserts were on a separate table and I passed on the temptation. It was a very enjoyable deal and traditionally decorated for Easter."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants in DC and the best Italian food by far. My parents were in town this weekend and we came for dinner on Sunday. We are at a lot if restaurants and when I asked my dad his favorite was Filomena! He is 1/2 Italian and grew up in an Italian home so he knows good food!! I personally have been searching for great Italian and when a friend brought me here a month ago I knew I had to come back! You can't go wrong with anything you order. It's ALL good!"

Absolutely packed both times we were there(last visit was a weeknight this time was Friday night) yet somehow they move people through and it all works. We had an army of waitstaff assisting us captained by the most excellent Gino! Fabulous calamari & antipasto for starters along with a Caesar Salad served table-side. Stiff drinks with a nice wine list rounded out our first half. Main dishes are huge and absolutely spot on. Tremendous flavor & food quality. I had the Veal Ravioli in a brown butter sage sauce and finished every bite. My wife had Lobster Cardinale and it was perfect. My son's Penne & Sausage dish was his favorite pasta dish. World class desserts and we just love this place."

We took some home and it was even good the next day. most pasta doesn't taste good reheated but this one was."

  • "Grandparents came to visit with my mom and I took them to dinner here on a Thursday night. The place was incredibly crowded and very loud, but we had a great time. Everyone loved their food, though the portions were massive and nobody finished their meal. The spinach ravioli was absolutely divine! The best part was the dessert drinks they brought out after we ate. Nice touch and very tasty."

  • "Three of us came for dinner. The place was absolutely packed at 6:45. This was a good sign. The waiter was a little curt and not the friendliest, but efficient nonetheless. The food was absolutely amazing. I had the frutti di mare, it was full of seafood. A little heavy on sauce. Kind of like the sauce was a little heavy for this dish. My guests had the meatballs and ravioli. Fantastic. A bottle if wine for about $40.00 in Georgetown? Even better! We will go again and again. Great food and atmosphere."

  • "I have eaten here many times, however always get the same dish. This visit however I went "outside the box" and ordered a different pasta. The taste was just "OK" and slightly overcooked. Its usually quite excellent so maybe they had an off day. Still would go there if you haven't been."

  • "Been here a couple of times so I took a couple of coworkers on business knowing they'd like it. The food didn't disappoint - for an appetizer I tried the calamari alla sicily, pure heaven. It was like a puttanesca soup filled with grilled calamari, they could have brought me a larger bowl and I could have eaten that as my main meal. Speaking of main meals, I tried the osso buco because, when osso buco is on the menu at any restaurant, you just have to get it on principle. Very tender and the risotto bed was very creamy. Skipped dessert because we were shot but of course saved space for complimentary Sambuca which I still have never seen at any Italian restaurant, even in NY or NJ. Do yourself a favor when in Georgetown and just go here."

  • "The food here is fantastic and authentic. When you enter the restaurant you can see grandmas rolling out fresh pasta for the day. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and quick. I never had to ask for a refill or to have dishes removed from the table. This place is definitely a gem. I've been about 20 times and I've never had a bad experience. The decor is a bit overwhelming during any holiday but it's kinda funny. RESERVATIONS ARE A MUST!!"

  • "The brunch was probably the worst brunch my wife and I have had in a long time. Walking in and seeing all the beautiful decorations was the highlight of the meal. Out of all the food items, only the rice, potatoes au gratin and bread we would consider good. Everything else was below par, for instance the roast beef was very tough and could hardly be sliced, even the man carving had a hard time with his big knife! Being an italian restaraunt we expected the pasta sauce to be very good, however it tasted like it came out of a can. We would never recommend this place to anyone."

  • "Sunday brunch is always fun, especially when there are many dishes to choose from. There were some food options for everybody, including desserts! The only sad thing is their interior decorations. They were celebrating "Easter"last weekend, so there were stuffed animals and colorful eggs were everywhere, top to bottom of the whole room. When I visited here last time, there were so many Uncle Sam hanging from the ceiling. I always wonder how it looks like without any holiday decorations here. I bet it's very beautiful. The music was very nice, and the service was SUPER. :)"

  • "My husband and I went to Filomenas but was surprisingly disappointed. The restaurant was very small and very tightly packed with tables and guests. To walk thru the restaurant from your table to the buffet area took some strategy. The tables are so tight that you are constantly bumping into guest chairs, knocking guest coats off chairs and constantly saying "excuse me, pardon me." Its so dark in the place that you can barely see the food. To navigate around the dessert table was stressful. To pass by a guest you were either belly to belly or back to back. This made the dining experience very frustrating. The food was okay, however, I do not think I would return because of the reasons I just mentioned."

  • "I've been wanting to go to Filomena's since it opened, yes, thirty long years ago! Shame on me for waiting so long. We took advantage of the Groupon Brunch offer. The Easter decorations were inspired, creating a glorious ambience for multi-generational family get togethers where youngsters up to six or seven would be absolutely entranced, adults, too! The food was overall good. Very nice custom pasta station. There were enough vegetarian offerings to create a satisfying meal. Good roasted vegetables and a divine custard base in the bread pudding. Very polite and efficient wait staff. We will come back to try the regular menu to sample the homemade pastas and/or gnocchi."
