Diner Reviews
  • "Service was outstanding! Friendly without being too personal. Great special occasion place. Worth a trip back to DC to enjoy Filomena's again!"

  • "Disappointed. Food was good. Large room with every table filled. For the cost, ambiance should have been better. Since wewere visiting DC thought we would go to what we thought were some of the finest restaurants. Not with this one. Glad we went but if we came back to DC probably wouldn't return."

  • "Great service, friendly staff. It is the restaurant my friend & I always go to when she is in town. It became our go-to spot after one dinner there. Now, instead of trying a different each time, we meet at Filomena's! But yo have to make a reservation, no matter what day of the week, or plan to eat very early. Worth the wait!"

  • "We had lunch at Filomena's on the recommendation of a friend and were not disappointed! The menu is extensive but not overwhelming, the food prepared with care, the wait staff friendly and competent and never hovered (one of my pet peeves), but the decor was unexpected and fabulous! We were there the week before Easter and the restaurant was extravagant. Clearly, the 'regular' look is unique and comfortable, but this holiday layer was festive and just plain fun. Reading afterwards about the history of the restaurant, I discovered that decorating for various holidays is a trademark. I would happily recommend dining at Filomena's on any occasion, holiday or not. "

  • "Great italian food and experience- from the Italian woman making pasta in the window to the after dinner amaretto apertif. The atmosphere is a bit overwhelming - when there in mid April, I have never seen so many Easter bunnies & egg decorations! The kids loved it and everything we ate was superb. "

  • "We were told of Philominas from our son's principal. He was right on target. Great food, enough for the guy that wants a big meal and the ambiance was that of my nonnas basement dining table. The Osso Buco with risotto was one of the best I've had. My son had the lasagna and devoured it. My daughter loves the linguini with clam sauce & my wife enjoyed her stuffed chicken. When we return to Washington, D.C. we will return to Philominas. "

  • "The food is more Italian American than authentic Italian. Everything is drenched in heavy cream sauces. Desert was very good though. Overall I would say it was over priced for what we got and won't be going back. "

  • "We went to Filomena on a friends recommendation and I am so glad we did. We had to wait a half hour even with a reservation, however it was worth the wait!! The atmosphere was great. I loved looking around the restaurant at all the decorations. The food was absolutely delicious. Great meal. I will definitely go back next time I'm in town!!! "

  • "It's very simple. This place is a sure shot every time! The service is outstanding, the food is amazing and the ambiance is lively and energetic. My wife and I absolutely LOVE this place!!!! Don't miss out!!!!!"

  • "Had a Mon 7:30 rez, got there early and had a drink at the bar. We were seated at 7:30. Server was awesome and on top of everything, he gladly acc any & all requests we had, never made us feel rushed. There is no kid menu. Portions are huge! Everyone was very happy with what they ordered. Atmosphere--it's very loud Noise wise and décor. Lots of energy here! But everyone was having fun and servers and managers were busting tail to make sure everyone was happy. It was Easter week and there were bunnies & eggs every where you looked. Cool for the kids, but really over the top, which I think is their thing during holidays, it just added to the exuberance of the whole experience. Our favorite restaurant that we had on our trip to DC. "

  • "The food and service was superb. The only thing I didn't appreciate was they pour half a glass of wine for $9.95. People are not stupid."

  • "Very good iltalian fare, but also extremely over priced. I'm sure the prices are indicative of its' Georgetown location, but $30 for a pasta entree? - really?"

  • "Pretty crowded. The flow of the buffet was awkward.....everyone crowded around the pasta station and you couldn't move forward. Food and service were excellent!"

  • "Excellent Italian food one of the best I have eaten at in my life. Will go back again"
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Brunch food selection and variety was small and mediocre. The restaurant was packed, which resulted in long lines at the buffet."
    Dined on 4/13/2014
  • "The food was great, service was very attentive even though it was incredibly busy (Cherry Blossom weekend!), and as always, it is a perfect restaurant for folks who are visiting to get a real taste of DC!"

  • "Filomena delivered everything I expected and more. From the pasta mam'a's to the fabulous Easter decor I felt like I was in wonderland! The food was delightful, the table romantic, the ambiance just so! The wait-staff was incredible I felt like I was in Italy! The food was to die for so delicious. Yet another surprise, after dinner wine on the house to help the food settle! Surprised and wonderful experience from the time my hand touched he door until we left!"

  • "I celebrated my 30th birthday with my very best friend here and enjoyed delicious Italian gourmet meal and wine. Maybe i'll come back every year!"
    Dined on 4/11/2014
  • "I love this restaurant. My advice - order from the menu and do not eat the buffet. The food was VERY salty and tasted overdone; meatballs were okay, but full of sodium and the chicken was dry-dry-dry. There was no real variety and it was mediocre and disappointing, considering it's a DC mainstay. I had a Groupon for Sunday Brunch and realized it was only for Sunday - I will use the value another time, but only to order directly from the menu!"

  • "Magnificent food, from cheese ravioli appetizer, to salads, to black pasta with seafood, to Raspberry Marquis for dessert. Exceptional across the board. Superb old-school service, from Maitre D to the young man that kept our water glasses full. Attentive, interested, and genuinely there to make our meal fantastic. Delightfully fun and boisterous atmosphere. Not a place for quiet romance, but loud, happy, and familial conversations all around. All-out Easter decorations were way past fun. Can't imagine what goes up for Valentines Day, Halloween, or Christmas! Made a weekend trip into DC just to use a gift certificate from the kids. Absolutely worth the effort! Thanks Kids!"

  • "Pretty good food, very nicely presented. Salads were especially good. Complimentary sambucca at end of meal was great. But they try to cram in too many diners so you're constantly bumped by everyone passing by. The current Easter decor is a site to behold – you've never seen so many bunnies – but some of it's creepy (bunnies with human baby faces, for instance)."

  • "Our appetizers were god , sautéed calamari and the stuffed mushrooms. We shared the veal saltimbocca, there was plenty of food for two. Dessert of chocolate mousse was excellent. Good dining experience in quaint Georgetown ."

  • "everything we've tried here has been good, some of it excellent. traditional italian like ravioli and meatballs were superb, shellfish was fabulous, lasagna was a little too ordinary -- good but not outstanding. the complimentary sambuca and amaretto are a treat! don't ever go here without a reservation; the problem is, even with your reservation be prepared to wait … and wait … to be seated. it is very popular and clearly they overbook consistently because waiting is not the exception it is the norm."

  • "Pretty bustling restaurant. Food was good and the service was very good. We were a party of 3 squeezed into a spot in the restaurant where the very busy wait staff continually brushed by the back of the outside chair to service other patrons, not a very good practice if patrons are there for a nice relaxing dinner experience."

  • "Buffet had lots of options but everything was just mediocre. Way too crowded for my liking. Couldn't even back out of my seat without bumping into the next table."

  • "We took advantage of a Groupon offer to try Filomena's Brunch last Sunday. We already know the Filomena's is one of our favorite dinner venues and were confident the Brunch food would favorably compare. We were not disappointed. It is a buffet, so if you are put off by that, skip it. I'm not a big fan of buffets, but this one rocks. The salad starter is fresh, offering toppings such as Italian seasoned garbanzos, a fresh vegetable medley, beets and grilled vegetables that were terrific. Leave room for the minestrone soup which was the tastiest I've ever had. Desserts were on a separate table and I passed on the temptation. It was a very enjoyable deal and traditionally decorated for Easter."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants in DC and the best Italian food by far. My parents were in town this weekend and we came for dinner on Sunday. We are at a lot if restaurants and when I asked my dad his favorite was Filomena! He is 1/2 Italian and grew up in an Italian home so he knows good food!! I personally have been searching for great Italian and when a friend brought me here a month ago I knew I had to come back! You can't go wrong with anything you order. It's ALL good!"

  • "Filomena's is one very popular restaurant. Absolutely packed both times we were there(last visit was a weeknight this time was Friday night) yet somehow they move people through and it all works. We had an army of waitstaff assisting us captained by the most excellent Gino! Fabulous calamari & antipasto for starters along with a Caesar Salad served table-side. Stiff drinks with a nice wine list rounded out our first half. Main dishes are huge and absolutely spot on. Tremendous flavor & food quality. I had the Veal Ravioli in a brown butter sage sauce and finished every bite. My wife had Lobster Cardinale and it was perfect. My son's Penne & Sausage dish was his favorite pasta dish. World class desserts and we just love this place."

  • "Me and my wife went there for her birthday. This was our 2nd time going and we are always impressed with the food. We both go pasta dishes with the lobster sauce. Yummie. Good portions also. We took some home and it was even good the next day. most pasta doesn't taste good reheated but this one was."

  • "I have been frequenting Filomena since early 90s. Best Italian food in DC. Menu is endless. Wait staff is beyond professional. I have never had a bad meal or experience at Filomena. My go-to birthday venue for 20+ years!"

  • "While traveling to DC for work a coyote times a year I get the opportunity to eat well in our nation's capitol, however there is only one restaurant that I return to EVERYTIME - Filomenas. From the wine, to the food , to the spectacular service and ambiance and their MUST HAVE desserts - this is my pick for the best of DC! I will definitely be back!"

  • "Grandparents came to visit with my mom and I took them to dinner here on a Thursday night. The place was incredibly crowded and very loud, but we had a great time. Everyone loved their food, though the portions were massive and nobody finished their meal. The spinach ravioli was absolutely divine! The best part was the dessert drinks they brought out after we ate. Nice touch and very tasty."
