Diner Reviews
  • "The food was very good - Chicken Marsala and Veal Gnocchi. Food was good and the espresso was nice. Went here for my girlfriend's birthday. It was everything I expected. Good Italian food and friendly service. Check it out. JB"

  • "Our group arrived for our reservation before a Celtics game and were seated immediately. Our table for 8 was not too far from the entrance and was an aisle away from the wall of windows overlooking Causeway and the Zakim Bridge, a lovely view. From the first minute in, our server LuLu, made us feel welcome. We received excellent service from Lulu and also other staff who helped her out. Start to finish our meal was excellent with no complaints. Outstanding fried mozzarella appetizer with melted cheese and red sauce & fried calamari that gives Giacomo's a run for its money. Everyone enjoyed their entrees as well, not one complaint. They have the lemon sorbet in a real lemon shell for dessert that my kids love. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "We went to Filippo for a birthday dinner, and it was delicious. LouLou (sp?) was so sweet and made sure we were happy with the service and the food, and never made us feel rushed. The food came out really quickly, but was so good. I'd definitely go here again!"

  • "I have been to Filippo's many times over the past 20 years and it never disappoints. The food is old world Italian with the best red sauce in the North End. I am half Italian and know an authentic spaghetti sauce and Filippo has it down! Also, the impeccable and friendly service is another reason to go as servers treat you as family. Special requests are easily accomodated and the food is high quality and freshly prepared. It may not be located on the restaurant row of Hanover or Salem streets, but it is not to be missed if lookiing for great Italian food with friendly atmosphere."

  • "We lost our original table because other people requested a specific waitress. Lost a booth and were given a tiny table in the center of the restaurant. It was an extremely noisy ambiance. We felt rushed through our entire dinner. We both got the feeling the restaurant wanted to get us out quickly so they could seat an additional party. We were served each course within minutes of the previous course arriving. They were unaccommodating when we asked to replace pasta with spinach. My husband has dietary restrictions and very rarely do we find a restaurant unable to switch out pasta for veggies. The waitress explained that the chef was too busy for special requests. For this reason alone, we will not return or recommend this restaurant."

  • "Went here after a Bruin's game with a group of 8 (adults and kids) and had a great experience here. Food was delicious, service was fantastic (LuLu was the best!). Very homey feeling, would definately recommend and go back"

  • "We ate here Friday night. We arrived early and were seated promptly. Our server was very courteous and helpful. Everything we ate, from the bread basket with dipping sauce, to the shrimp scampi to the pasta to the chocolate cake was delicious!"

  • "Disappointing second visit that didn't live up to first. Initial visit was excellent, but not so much this time. Service was average at best compared to excellent service last time. Food was just ok. Restaurant seemed overwhelmed with a few large groups."

  • "My family had the pleasure of Dining at Filippo's in the North End of Boston in March. We were quickly seated by the owner and shortly after that meet our server LuLu. With two young growing and hungry boys we all ordered appetizers, melon and prosciutto, bruschetta, caprese salad and an antipasto. LuLu recommended that we hold off ordering entrees until we had the appetizers. Good call by LuLu! LuLu recommended we order two entrees and share then if we needed more food she would take care of us. The food at Filippo's was amazing but the service from LuLu made our trip to Boston memorable. My boys are still talking about LuLu who gave us all hugs at the end of the evening. If in the North end of Boston, go to Filippo's and ask for LuLu!"

  • "The food is good and the location couldn't be more convenient if you're going to an event at the Garden. Is it fine, gourmet dining? No, but it's a solid choice."

  • "Jerry the waiter was fantastic and the food was even better. The best $500 I have spent in a long time."

  • "We recently took my son and his GF for a birthday dinner at Filippo. Total party size was five and our table was ready and waiting for us on a Saturday night. The service was understated but timely and anticipated our requests at each course of the meal - obviously a pro. The menu was adventurous; interesting combinations of classic Italian foods. My entree was Gnocchi Abruzzo which is sliced veal with gnocchis in a brown sauce - delicious! In all a very enjoyable and reasonably priced experience. We'll be back."

  • "We had so much fun at Filippo. Lulu took great care of us, Thank you. The food was great, really good. We just enjoyed the night and we are talkers and jokers and this was a great place for that. We had 10 and I would not hesitate to bring 20. We had a big table and it was comfy. Prices are reasonable."

  • "I went here for dinner on Valentines Day along with another couple and we had a great night. Food was amazing and service was good once our waiter warmed up to us. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to others!"

  • "The food was OK, but pretty sub par for a north end restaurant. Service was fast, but not very friendly. Seemed to cater more to groups and people grabbing dinner before a game at the Garden than for a date night."

  • "I made reservations for 6 for Valentines day.. The place seemed nice people were friendly but it was dead inside (thought we were lucky). The server was awkward and the bread was cold and hard and the oil was tasteless. The chicken parm was pretty good but not for the price and the gnocchi was way too seasoned and it all tasted like it was pre made and nuked in the microwave or reheated.. Was very disappointed and were in and out in 20mins"

  • "The food was quite tasty, but I felt that the food in general was greasy. We ordered a seafood dish and a chicken dish, both were greasy. The Chocolate cake was a little dry. The Limoncello cake is the best and should not be skipped."

  • "When I booked the reservation I read all the reviews and thought this should be a great place for dinner. It is a good neighborhood eatery. I was expecting more than what we really received in the way of our whole dining experience. The table was small even for just two people. the service was just okay the wait staff was not very attentive seemed more interested in getting you in and out than serving you a good meal . The food quantity was average to small compared to other north end restaurants. it all tasted fine. If you want a quick meal in and out in a rush this is the place to go. must be use to serving the sports crowd from the garden during game nights. This was valentines day and felt rushed."

  • "Located at the entry to the North End, Filippo's is also only 2 short blocks to the Garden. They take this into account when serving on a game night. Lulu was our server. What a doll! We even got kisses on our way out. Filippo came over to our table for a chat about his hometown in Italy. The food was authentic, delicious and abundant. I am planning to go back soon with some Italian friends, one of whom has family in Filippo's home town."

  • "I took my boyfriend out for a celebratory dinner and had a wonderful time. The wine list was great and the food was real authentic Italian. I have been to Fillipos before for my college graduation dinner. Each time I dine, at the restaurant, I leave very pleased. The staff are wonderful. Fillipos is perfect for a large party or a romantic evening. Highly recommend!"

  • "So it was my wife's birthday and we had planned to follow our usual tradition of celebrating with dinner at Davide. Unfortunately they went out of business two weeks before leaving us scrambling for another place to go. My wife is vegetarian and it was a brutally cold day, so proximity to the T was a must. Found Filippo and decided to give it a shot. I had never been here before and was very impressed. It's surprisingly difficult to find a North End restaurant that is affordable and has multiple vegetarian options. I had the gnocchi which were amazing -- light and delicate in a wonderful pesto sauce. My wife had the vegetariano pasta and enjoyed it as well. Not very crowded and service was excellent. We'll be back."

  • "We decided to go to a restaurant close to the TD Garden instead of walking further in the North End because it was so cold that day. The overall experience was wonderful, the hostess, bartender and of course Lulu could not have been more friendly and made us feel like we were the only customer's at Filippos. The frozen lemon sorbet packed into a lemon was a special treat. We will return."

  • "Brought my new favorite person on our second date here, and we had a lovely evening. The waitstaff were friendly and not pushy, the wine list had some much more expensive options than we chose, but the house Chianti was a humble yet delicious choice. Our entrees (both chicken) were beautifully plated and prepared, and I must say whatever red sauce they use on the pasta side (which was just the right amount) was just beautifully seasoned. Our tiramisu for desert was delicious, and used a coffee liqueur which was a perfect fit. Look for the discount certificates through the usual outlets to save a few dollars, and don't miss this neighborhood gem. Get to North Station, exit onto Causeway Street, and you'll literally bump into the place."

  • "I went for a friend's birthday. I'm not too familiar with the North End, so I only had the internet and friends to help me figure out which restaurant out of all the North End restaurants to choose from. This was a success! Reasonably priced, good service, great food. Great place for a lively meal. We arrived at 8. Had our meal (small, basic Italian menu) with some wine (decent wine list), stayed for some dessert and chit-chat, before we knew it, it was closing time! We all had a wonderful time."

  • "I was very pleasantly surprised with Filippo. It is located just a few minute walk from the Garden, so it was convenient and had very decent prices. I did not expect such amazing food! Authentic feel, attentive service. The calamari was excellent (not greasy at all!), and the Sunday capello dish was great as well."

  • "Not recommended dishes had missing ingredients with no one taking responsibility. Th staff was unprofessional and very rude. Will not return."

  • "The server seemed annoyed. We took her recommendation. It was bland. You had a choice of pasta or salad. We both took the pasta and she arrived with a small bowl of zit ti. I thought. it was for both of us but my husband said, "where is her salad?" I didn't correct him. We will never return."

  • "Chose this restaurant due to proximity of TD Garden after TSO concert and time availability listed on open table site. While the food was outstanding, the attitude of the owner and waitstaff was less than mediocre. If you don't care how you are treated as a patron, go enjoy the food. If the lack of customer service will bother you, I wouldn't bother."

  • "Food was very nice...service was very good...would have given all 5 stars except that it was a little pricey."

  • "Great Italian food as good as you would get in Italy. Good portions. Relaxed atomosphere, not for those in a rush. The best part is the service. Our server Lulu was just outstanding. Fun & funny, really keyed into her client, knew what we were looking for. A great joy and outstanding food."

  • "Nice menu with enough variety for our group. Fairly traditional items including nightly specials. Gnocchi was light and puffy which was I prefer to the denser, heavier found elsewhere. It was especially nice to be able to make a reservation for a Saturday night."

  • "The owner and waitstaff were very rude and arrogant. They acted as if they were doing us a favor by seating us. we noticed another couple get seated then shortly after get up and left. We will never go back."

  • "We had an excellent meal at Filippo when visiting Boston, but what really made our experience special was our server, LuLu. From tucking a napkin in my partner's shirt so he wouldn't splatter tomato sauce on it, to chatting witn us about Boston's history, she was such a delight to meet. We greatly appreciate her hospitality in welcoming two "boys" from Chicago."
