A word from Figo
Figo is a cozy restaurant and artisan cocktail bar in downtown Palo Alto. It is a stylish and modernist venue that features a seasonally changing menu based on farm driven ingredients.

Patrons can share an assortment of market fresh small plates(piattini), house made pastas and fresh local fish.

The Figo bar features cocktails based on fresh herbs and seasonal natural fruits as well as a selection of boutique beers and wines.

  • "Our group of six ate at Figo recently. About half of us quite liked our meals, the rest were unimpressed. The least enjoyed entree was the seafood marinara (or whatever they called it) which was called bland by two people. The potato and zucchini flan was quite tasty, but lukewarm. Penne arrabiata were good but not authentic. Iimagine the place would be quite nice during the summer because they have tables out on University Avenue. The decor is fairly minimalist though they did have the large tables in the side room set up quite elegantly. We never did see anyone eating there so perhaps that was just for show? In any case, this was our second try at Figo and, given all the better restaurants around, will likely be out last."

The servings are more than ample and fresh. Visually things could look a bit more interesting. Service staff is extremely accommodating."

  • "we had great memories of our past dinners at Figo, but when we returned this weekend, we were disappointed in the food. We didn't realize that they had changed menus significantly and the wood fired oven was gone. Our appetizers of caprese salad and eggplant tian were okay, but nothing special. And the main dish of arrabiatta pasta was tough, not just al dente. The proscecco was excellent, the new bar setup was open and beautiful and our server was attentive and knowledgable and very good."

  • "Figo is a pleasant Italian restaurant with a shorter than usual menu, but with affordable prices. The food is O.K., nothing stands out, but it is all tasty. Service was slow until the manager appeared at our table, then it speeded up. Surprisingly, all of our appetizers were cleared, then our silverware and bread, then the hostess appeared with the dessert menu, but we hadn't received our entrees yet! They soon followed with fresh silverware, but obviously there was a mixup somewhere. It's a good place for an affordable Palo Alto meal where you will be comfortably fed, but I wouldn't recommend it to my foodie or Italian-loving friends, since there are better restaurants serving the same food, and more options. Didn't try the desserts."

  • "We had a 6:15 reservation, arrived on time only to be told there would be a 20 minute wait unless we wanted to be seated outside. So we took the outside table on a cool evening. The hostess did not make an effort to accommodate us and we had to wait 30 minutes for a space heater. No offer for a drink, appetizer, or dessert for the inconvenience."

  • "My grown daughter and I went to Figo for dinner. The grilled calamari appetizer was good, but not exceptional. My daughter enjoyed her spaghetti frutti di mare which was tasty and well prepared. I had gnocchi branzino. My dish was soggy, high in butter and low in taste. But what really annoyed me is that being a busy night the waiter rushed us through dinner. I had been to Figo before and had a pizza margherita that I enjoyed, but after last night's experience I think it will be a while before I return."

  • "The appetizers (burrata and mushroom flan) were very good and the Panna Cotta al Pistacchio was excellent. Our main courses were fine (pastas). I would go again and order enough appetizers to make a meal and then have dessert. It was noisy in there so don't expect quiet dining."

  • "Some nice menu items such as the porcini flan and the penne arrabiatta. Seafood risotto was just ok. Short ribs quite delicious. Decent wine list, heavy on the Italians as one would expect. Owners are from Italy which is not often the case with Italian places around here. Gotta say they weren't a tually very friendly, however, though we spoke to them in Itaian. Server was friendly. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but would go again if in the area."

  • "The waiters were great - attentive and charming. The food was delicious. We had their prix fixe "early bird" dinner and it was a great value - the salad was yummy and the entrees all very good. The panne cot to for dessert was amazing - wonderful pistachio flavor! I definitely want to go again."

  • "By the look and feel of things when you walk into Figo, you are in for a treat. You are greeted by handsome, welcoming Italian men, seated at a table with a view of the warm decor. The waitstaff is friendly, but all the Italians that greeted you at the door are nowhere to be seen. This perfect set up is sadly brought down by the unimpressive food; one dish was downright bad (it tasted like box noodles with canned sauce and low grade meat). I really thought Figo was going to be the real deal, but their food proves otherwise. It would probably be a great place to grab a drink before dining elsewhere."

  • "Was looking for a quick bite before heading home early on a Thursday night. Decided to try Figo, the restaurant that had replaced Pasta? Pleasantly surprised to find quite a range of pasta and antipasti. Calamari, grilled (not deep fried-ugh), good Tempranillo wine, and a delicious unusual dish of linguini with a simple garlic, olive oil and shaved tuna roe sauce. Very good. Noodles were house-made and perfectly cooked. Thumbs-up on food and service. Definitely will go back again an have already told others about it."

  • "Was here with a group of 8 for a birthday dinner and everyone really enjoyed their meal with attendees from age 9 to 80. That's a hard thing to achieve. I loved the gnochi branzino. Really outstanding. That was the lightest, most pillowy gnochi I've ever had, and the branzino fish was just delicious. We started with the burata and coppa appetizer which was mouth watering. This the second time I've eaten here, (once lunch and now dinner) and I think the food is REALLY well prepared. The menu is interesting, and not stodgy, predictable Italian which is common in other PA eateries. Service also very pleasant and accommodating! My only recommendation is that they add some sound ceiling baffling - it's noisy with the high ceilings."

  • "Had been there twice. Once with my girl friends and second time with my husband and a couple friend to celebrate my husband's birthday. First experience was good but 2nd experience was so-so. Didn't see too many waiters and our waitress was always in a hurry. Would not even listen to us, turn around and leave even before we could finish our order. Food was also alright, not as good as I had remembered it the last time. We also felt that waitress was a bit unfriendly and made faces a couple of times, not sure if she was just tired or something else but I am willing to give her a benefit of doubt. Good for an outing with friends when you don't care about the food or service much."

  • "Very disappointed. The room is noisy, even when not full. The waiter seemed inexperienced. Not waiting for my drink order after taking two others, reaching across me to fill the water glass, getting the food and drink order mixed up and bringing me the wrong glass of wine. The food wasn't much better. The presentation of food on the plate was nonexistent. My boar ragu was so salty it was almost I edible. The local seasonal ingredients included hothouse tomatoes even though fresh are still available in formers markets. The pasta had been pre cooked and the warmed before serving so it still was stuck together in a clump when it arrived at the table. The burrata appetizer with fig jam was the only excellent dish."

  • "My date and I thoroughly enjoyed dining at Figo: a gem of a new restaurant nestled in downtown Palo Alto. I had the spaghetti ai frutti di mare, which actually tasted of the fruits of the ocean! My date enjoyed her dish as well. While she generally orders chardonnay, she asked the waiter for an Italian wine equivalent and was pleasantly surprised. Public parking is convenient right around the corner on Bryant between University and Lytton at the relatively new 5-story garage. Restaurants come and go so often in downtown Palo Alto that you really should try this one while you can."

  • "We started going here because of the great pizza they had - Naples style, thin crust, European. Service was also good. Went there this week and was disappointed they no longer offer pizza. Their oven broke and instead of getting it fixed or getting a new one, they moved the Pizza which is what made this place, off the menu. What is left is average - your basic Italian. Bad decision."

  • "Food is quite good....only issue was the Branzino did not include the whole fish like in La Strada...but was a fillet and was not too big. The appetizer and dessert were OK. Service was quite good.....and fast. The ambience was basic...it was not a romantic setting...so we thought the value to price was not as good as other Italian restaurants on University.....but it is likely in tier 2."

  • "Came in and noticed the restaurant seemed dark, so I asked the hostess they had any candles, and she would get me one. Ten minutes later, no candle. My martini arrived warm, with little noticeable gin. Our calamari hors d'oeuvre was fine. My octopus salad had thinly-sliced octopus lay across a round of chopped lettuce. The lettuce was so highly seasoned with oil and vinegar that I couldn't taste the octopus. My husband ordered "bland short ribs," along with polenta, which he said was plain. The candles burned out ; a 10 minute replacement wait. No other tables were given candles."

  • "I had a spinach salad and the special risotto. We had a group of 7 and when we got there at 6:45 it was empty. By the time we left at 8:30 it was packed. Food was fine, nice touch was they gave all of us Limoncello on the house. It was kind of cavernous so when it got busy it was hard to hear."

  • "We were craving Italian food and picked this place because we've never been. I had the spaghettini. We were early for the dinner crowd so we pretty much had the restaurant all to ourselves. Our server frequently checked in to make sure everything was great. Our bread came warm and slightly toasted (love!). We ordered the 12 hr braised pork belly. So delicious! The spaghettini was amazing! I found myself going back from more bread to wipe by plate completely clean!!! "Fare la scarpetta" as our server told me....meaning to mop up all your sauce with your bread. I dropped my form midway through the meal and immediately, I had the server and another helper offer me a clean fork right away. That is great service!"

  • "Having traveled to Italy recently, I can say the food at Figo is truly authentic Italian. Service was amazing (though it sometime bordered on too frequently refilling water glasses such that it often interrupted conversation flow). The Figo oven-fired pizza was fantastic. Only down side was that prices seem a little too high. The food was excellent, but I'm not sure it was worth the price. We would frequent this restaurant more often if everything were a few dollars cheaper. Then again - Palo Alto/University Ave prices are all extremely high, so maybe that's an issue with locale as opposed to Figo. All in all, I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "From service point of view, it has improved very much, compare to few months ago. The pizza is very good. The burrata salad is good. However, this time I tried the lobster salad (special of the day) and it wasn't that great. I think they should focus on basic Italian food, that they do very well."
