Fig TreeOutstanding!My dining experience was outstanding. Growing up in the restaurant business, I must say that I was impressed. From the hostess, to the wait staff, to the timing of plating, to presentation, temperature and taste of the food, and surprise birthday message on dessert plate. I will definitely be back and refer friends here. Our new favorite restaurant in Charlotte!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFive stars, even for a solo diner!Fig Tree was exquisite -- fantastic food, extremely attentive and lovely service (I sat at the bar and Erika was the BEST), great wine list, and quite comfortable. I was visiting from San Francisco on a work trip and wanted a nice dinner solo, as I'm a big foodie and was missing my local haunts; I sat at the bar and really enjoyed how lively the bar area was -- Fig Tree seems perfect for parties from solo diners to groups of colleagues.
Everything I ate was wonderful, and I'd highly recommend the foie gras, the sweet potato and bell pepper soup, and the VEAL CHOP! Even the smashed potatoes that the chop was plated on were some of my favorite potatoes. 5 stars to Fig Tree -- kudos!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AM30th anniversary dinnerHad a fanastic anniversary dinner sitting out on the front porch. When arrived the hostess greeted her with a happy birthday, when went to our seat our waiter also greeted her in the same manner by her name. She was so excited. The meal was fabulous and the wine list was excellent. The evening was top off with her favorite desert and a candle lit. The plate had happy birthday written in chocolate. The staffs were amazing. This time the food was very good but some of it was not quite at the level I've come to expect, especially the scallops. That said, Eddy Holiday was our server again and he does an incredible job at making everyone feel great. He provides top notch service and is an absolute pleasure to converse with! The Fig Tree will now be on our must eat at list. I had the Elk. It was wonderful. The dessert - Cinnamon Beignets were just awesome. I am from Louisiana and it is very hard to get a really good Beignet. The Fig Tree would have me coming back just for their desserts alone but their other menu items are just as great. We enjoyed the front porch dining as the sun was setting.
I had a wonderful, special, boar appetizer and everyone else seemed to enjoy their appetizer as well.
The main course for me was great; I had the scallops and my spouse had the lamb which was also delicious. The other couple seemed to have a little difficulty cutting the meat they got. The restaurant is a cool intimate old house and the service is perfect, as it was on our first visit. The problem this time was That the food was not up to par. One of our entrees, the striped bass was terrible. The waiter was apologetic, but made no attempt to get us something different. We had a nice time, but probably won't go back.
