Diner Reviews
  • "Good sized (but not huge) portions of very fresh fish, well seasoned, delicious. Reasonable prices for the quality of food. The kitchen has some imagination. Menu changes every day - one page, so if you want huge selection look elsewhere. A very busy restaurant and the noise level can be high. Although we didn't have any questions, our waiter proceeded to explain every single dish on the menu - really annoying. Some of the tables are fairly close together and I sat looking at the wall (there was a mirror on it, but it was not clear). Lacking ambience."

  • "Reserve, reserve, reserve. Not an easy table to get. Great fish dishes, but the flounder was the standout. Service was energetic and spot on. Arugula salad was clean and crisp..simple....we paired it with the gnocchi and they were the Gemini twins of the small plates. Snapper, triggerfish, and flounder were the 3 fish dishes shared by the 4 of us. The flounder was a great plate of taste and texture. Although a bit pricey for fish ($30/plate) as compared to smaller less touristy towns, this was about average for Charleston during our stay. Paid parking is available directly behind the eatery on the side street. Get two hours worth if you are an appetizer, entrée, dessert crew."

  • "FIG is a pretty nice restaurant. Although others recommended FIG highly, we didn't feel the same. Sorry FIG. Veggie entrees are quite lacking. Ordered 9 veggies "salad". It had no "greens" at all, no lettuce. Just thin small slices of I suppose 9 cooked veggies. Waitress asked if we were splitting it. We said yes. To our surprise, check had a $2 splitting charge, all the more outrageous because each split portion was not just small but tiny. The interior seemed to us to be dingy. There were long old looking, horizontal mirrors on the walls around the room and perhaps they were antiques but they detracted from any ambiance to us. Server attempted to be friendly but in tone of voice very much overdone, syrupy, did not feel authentic."

  • "We were very pleased with our experience at Fig. Our waitress was outstanding, and would make Mud Soup sound delicious! She was very knowledgeable, energetic, and provided timely service. The food was excellent - fresh, nicely prepared & presented. My fish could have been a bit warmer. The noise level picked up as we dined. We are older, so we are more bothered by that than the young folks. We had to yell a bit to be heard by our friends who dined with us. We would certainly recommend Fig, as it was recommended to us."

  • "My boyfriend and I celebrated an anniversary at FIG last week. The food was great! I had the fish seafood bowl which is just as good as everyone says. The wait staff was attentive but not overbearing. I would highly recommend making reservations at least a week in advance."

  • "The dinner at Fig was soooo good! The fish stew was excellent, lots of seafood in an amazing broth. I just wanted to drink what was left of the broth after eating all the seafood, but proper decorum prevailed. My husband's trigger fish was also excellent. Kevin, our waiter, was very good. He convinced us that a piece of sticky cake dessert was a must. The sorghum flavor was wonderful, not as strong as molasses, and the cake was very moist. Every staff person who passed us or waited on us was friendly, more so than any other restaurant we've been in before. If you are looking for a quiet place to dine, Fig is not the place, but if you are looking for a place that has exceptional food and a great wait staff, Fig is the place to go!"

  • "No doubt about it the most creative, healthy and local food source in Charlston. Don't let the wait list scare you. They do everything to seat and feed you. Best to plan 30 days in advance but not required. Great seafood creations."

  • "Small intimate restaurant with a lovely ambiance. There is something for everyone on the menu but particularly good for the foodies amongst us!"

  • "We had our 16 and 9 year olds with us and they are accustomed to fine dining. Our server was pleasant but not consciously attentive. Fish over cooked. Steak tough. Not what I expected for hype and price"

  • "We had some of the best food we have ever had...all of the dishes were just great..a really special restaurant."

  • "I am kind of shocked FIG is so highly reviewed. I was expecting a lot of fresh ideas and great food, but was let down. The 9 vegetable salad was the high point of the meal. The razor clams were okay, we've had better. The steak I got was good, but again nothing special, salt potatoes were a bit undercooked and the lettuce spears were wilted. the flounder was okay, the crust was a little soggy. the cheese plate was not well selected and the two of the 3 lacked flavor and were basic. the meyer lemon pudding was great as was the tea selection. Our waiter was awkward, and not in a charming way."

  • "Our second visit. This one was just as superb as the first. Definitely the best restaurant we have dined at in Charleston. An amazing experience in every respect"
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "We enjoyed our dinner even though it was late when we dined. Food was excellent. The razor clams tasted good-enough acidity, surprisingly refreshing (since it was not local). The ricotta gnocchi: heavenly! The dining room could look warmer considering how good the food is. Worth the trip to Charleston!"

  • "We had great cocktails ($10 each) and for appetizers wonderful marinated razor clams, tasty chicken liver pate, and gnocchi to die for. Our meals were Black bass, flounder, triggerfish, and suckling pig. Everything was scrumptious."
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "Our meal was absolutely amazing from the cocktails, appetizer, entree and dessert. I think it's one of the best we've ever had in Charleston. The server was excellent. He described everything with enthusiasm, and just enough detail. We will definitely go back on our next trip to the city!"

  • "Sat at the community table and made some fun connections that just added to the delightful food. Wonderful food and service. Continues to life up to excellent standards of food and service. One of our favorite restaurants."

  • "We ate at 4 really good Charleston restaurants and FIg was by far the best. The pork confit was delicious but the desserts were just divine. We had the molasses sticky cake thing and the meyer lemon pudding. Oh.my.goodness!!"

  • "A must-do whenever we are in Charleston. By far, our favourite restaurant in the city."

  • "I was visiting Charleston and some SC friends for the weekend and wanted to take my friends out for a nice dinner. I read several reviews of Charleston restaurants in advance and decided on FIG even though some of the recent reviews were a little negative. I'm glad I chose FIG! The service was very good. Our wait person was very knowledgeable about the menu and quite patient with us. The general manager stopped by our table to help us with our wine selection and suggested a wine none of us had tried before which was quite good. We all enjoyed the food and the FIG experience."

  • "Our experience was fantastic. The king mackerel Tartare was out of this world. The snapper I had was the most moist and tender snapper dish I have ever had. Thanks for a wonderful time!"

  • "This place was crazy delicious. I just ate lunch and thinking about this place makes me sad that I didn't eat here. One of the best meals I've ever had. Our waitress was knowledgeable and energetic. The food was amazing. Not much else to say. Cheers!"

  • "FIG is our go-to in Charleston...if we can get a reservation. The food is always top notch, and I leave feeling satisfied. The service is consistently attentive and goes over and beyond to offer good suggestions."
    Dined on 3/10/2014
  • "Very good, fresh, different presentations. Service very attentive and thorough when describing food options. Only negative is noise level is very loud, and overcrowding with people standing around the bar area. Did feel rushed, noting the hostess walked through the restaurant many times during meal documenting status of each table."

  • "This space is cleanly designed… Lighting romantically dim… Service impeccable…. The food….beyond perfect… Richly flavored and delicately prepared… Waiter turned us on to the most amazing dessert red wine… Just a perfect evening all around. Please find a way to set up shop in NYC!!!"

  • "FIG never fails to deliver and we are always willing to work our dinner schedule around the restaurant's availability for exactly that reason. Even on a cold and rainy night FIG is worth the trip. The clam "chowder" was a creative and satisfying rendition of a traditional favorite and the gnocchi appetizer was fluffy and light. Equally outstanding were the main courses. Dessert of chocolate cake and mint ice cream was worth every calorie!"

  • "Given all the accolades I thought this restaurant was overrated. I found the menu rather boring and the service was very erratic. There are better restaurants in Charleston."

  • "This was our second dining experience at FIG. We dined there a year ago and were excited to be back. We think FIG ranks as one of the best restaurants in Charleston. The menu offers unique combinations of flavor, is cooked to perfection and is absolutely delicious. The wait staff is attentive, gracious and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is a delightful background to the exceptional cuisine. It is understated in décor and easy on the ears."

  • "My husband and I have lived in charleston for six years now and have always heard great things about FIG. We finally made the time to go out and treat ourselves. The rumors were true... FIG is an incredible food experience. We ordered the clam "chowder" for an appetizer, flounder & pork as an entree and apple cobbler for dessert. If you are looking to have a full dining experience, FIG is the place."

  • "Fig remains one of the outstanding dining options in Charleston. Locally sourced ingredients, inventive preparation and super knowledgeable staff. Every trip to Charleston begins her."

  • "This was THE best meal I have ever been served. From the cocktail at the bar to the wine, appetizer, salad, entree and dessert with madeira, the whole experience at FIG was exceptional. Both the service and the food were worthy of all of the hype that this small restaurant has been getting. I highly recommend everyone try this gem. Enjoy!"

  • "FIG= Food is good! How about Food = Divine! From the moment we arrived (actually arrived a week earlier than our reservation as we made a mistake when booking on Open Table) until the moment we departed, our FIG experience was fantastic! Staff was extremely hospitable and accommodating. Menu may be a little intimidating but every option we selected was divine! Menu changes daily. Menus are presented on clipboard like boards. Different. Unique. They recycle menus & use as doilies for certain menu options= LOVE"

  • "We live in Chapin SC, travel fairly frequently in the US and abroad and already had one or two favorite restaurants in Charleston. We have added the Fig to that very short list. Food was excellent in every way and the server and other members of staff were helpful and informed. Low key, yet charming and in some sense even elegant. Fish and vegetables were cooked to perfection. Althougn we were able on line to make a reservation at only a late hour, the hostess was most helpful and accomodating when my wife and I stopped by the restaurant to see if it might be possible to have an earlier dinner. We have already mentioned the Fig to several friends and we shall return."
