Diner Reviews
  • "I had wanted to try FIG since it opened years ago. This was my first time there, and my husband and I both absolutely loved it! I've lived in Charleston for 12 years, and now I can see why people say FIG is one of the best in town."

  • "Absolute favorite restaurant in Charleston. Amazing food, great service. Nothing compares to FIG. Nothing."

  • "As good as it gets. Best meal I've had in several years. Put it on your list."

  • "FIG is my spouse's favorite! But this time my choice for dinner was not as appealing as the first time. Spouse's dish was fantastic. Previous trips food was tied with the other best in Charleston."

  • "Husband had the flounder, I had the fish stew-both were wonderful. The gnocchi was the best I ever tasted. Bartender makes excellent drinks. Will return. Kudos to our waiter Matthew."

  • "Everything was so fresh. The little gem salad was so good. The snapper was great too. The only disappointments were they were out of their sorghum cake which is the house specialty. (Our dinner reservation was at 7:00.) Also, a house Chardonnay should not be $15 per glass."

  • "My husband and I visited FIG on a Tuesday evening and it was fully booked. Be sure to get reservations in advance. We tried the special for the evenining, the soft-shell crab. It was sauteed rather than fried which was a refreshing take on the crustacean. Additionally, the entree was served with two crabs, rather than only one. The sticky sorghum cake was too die for. We will definitely be returning soon!"

  • "There are no words to describe the meal we were served at FIG. From the moment we entered the restaurant we felt welcomed and cared for. The service was amazing. The staff took care of every detail to make our anniversary dinner a one to remember. Started out with complimentary champagne, followed by a great wine list. The appetizer was unbelievable. The gnocchi was by far the best I ever had. The entrees (seafood stew/crusted swordfish) were awesome. Desert was delicious, just wish I could keep eating there. There was nothing wrong to point out about this meal. They are doing a great thing at FIG."

  • "Food is good- FIG is great! Great food-- not as "risky" of a menu as Husk, but definitely all done well. Large drink/wine menu. Highly recommend the sticky sorghum cake!"

  • "Don't miss this wonderful southern gem - delightful flavor sand combinations, topped with intensity and pizazz!"

  • " We have waited 3 years to eat here. The food was definitely worth the wait. Unfortunately, none of our dinners (we were 4) were hot. They were tepid. When we mentioned it to the manager as she came to ask us how everything was, we told her about it. She apologized and offered to heat them up. Frankly, we did not want to send fish dinners back to be "heated up". Not sure what the outcome would be! Also, both couples were celebrating anniversaries. This is the first restaurant I've ever been to that has not offered us a complimentary glass of wine or dessert for the dessert for the celebration. We were told if you order a dessert, they will put a candle in it! Really?"

  • "After hearing so many stellar reviews of FIG, both by locals and in publications, we finally made it to FIG. It did not disappoint. The staff -- from the hostesses who greeted us, to our awesome server, to the attentive managers -- was friendly and professional. Our special request (when reserving online) for a cozy, romantic table was accommodated. And the food -- it was nothing short of amazing. (I ordered the featured hanger steak and the featured bread pudding. Fabulous!) Highly recommend this place, and we will return to FIG."

  • "We went to FIG during our honeymoon and the staff gave us a great quiet table in the back. The food, service, and ambiance were all amazing. Perfect for a celebratory night out."

  • "We had very high expectations and found it to be a good restaurant. Check the menu which changes daily - if it doesn't sound like its awesome to you, go another day. The drinks were great. The bread phenomenal. My wife's steak was very good. My tilefish was okay. Our veggie Caesar was good. Our service was excellent."

  • "The food is so wonderful. The waiter was informative and described everything in such detail. Perfect food! We loved it so much we went to Charleston for the night just to eat at Fig and take our son. Thank you for another wonderful experience!"

  • "We were a bit disappointed with Fig, in light of all the reviews, but we would come back for another try. The tartare of tuna, gnocchi, swordfish, farrotto and sorghum cake were very good. We had to send the sautéed greens back because they were so bland (chef needs to try the greens at Hall's, which are terrific) and the schnitzel was so over breaded that my wife had to scrape most of it off in order to get to the protein. Nice service."

  • "We returned to FIG for another great dining experience. The menu was more impressive than the last visit. I'm so upset that I forgot our server's name, because he was wonderful. You could sense the passion through him that FIG's chef has for the food that leaves the kitchen. 9 veggie salad with each veg prepared to perfection separately and then tossed with a light Cesar style dressing was a dish of beauty and flavor. Local fish, tres leche cake and a cheese platter with a great bottle of wine made the evening a delight."

  • "The food was amazing. The use of farm fresh ingredients to accompany the entrees were wonderful. It was very hard to choose just one dish. They were all so good. Great casual atmosphere. It is a must to go to! LOVED IT! Glad we chose to go here on our visit to Charleston."

  • "Outstanding food! Wonderful and unique use of fresh local ingredients created fabulous flavors. The knowledgable and helpful waitstaff guided us through menu options as first time FIG diners. We will be back!"

  • "My husband and I agree that this is one of the 2 best restaurant dinner food we have ever eaten. The best service we have ever received from a restaurant also."

  • "Excellent meal. The house made cheeses (ricotta and goat) were outstanding."

  • "Food Is (Indeed) Good at FIG. The menu changes daily, a feast for locovores. Excellent preparations. Pricey, but will not disappoint!"

  • "The overall experience at this restaurant was good, but I want be going back anytime soon. The $15.00 appetizer of clams was very tasty, but very small. Definetly not enough to share. Again, the entree portions were also very good, but slim. I had Grouper and my husband had hanger steak. I am not a big eater, so this is definitely not a place for hungry people!"

  • "Had really high expectations for FIG; while most of the food was well prepared, high quality & delicious (I love that the menu is tweaked daily based on freshly available local ingredients) nothing stood out as being memorable & the ambiance & service were not on par with the food or at the level expected for a venue at this price point & so highly regarded. The restaurant did not seem to have a lot of personality & we were seated next to a rowdy six top that rendered conversation difficult. While our server was sufficiently attentive there was more of a vibe of a business transaction than friendly banter. After dining at Husk and McCrady's while in town Fig was a very distant 3rd place & not even in the same league."

  • "Could not be happier with our dining experience at FIG. With a great alcohol selection and an incredible local, sustainable food listing it was just what we were looking for! Highly recommend to anyone visiting the Charleston area. "

  • "We experienced excellent, imaginative food and excellent service from a very knowledgeable, professional waitstaff. Once the restaurant filled up, it was quite noisy, making conversation difficult."

  • "We arrived 10 minutes early and were quickly seated. This is a very interesting menu. We enjoyed the soft shelled crab and swordfish. The vegetables were so good that we ordered another plate to share. It was a very pleasant experience."

  • "Great food!! FIG prepares everything to order. I had the best soft shelled crabs I've ever eaten. I'll definitely be returning to FIG."

  • "FIG was excellent in every way. We were lucky to get Ryan as our server as he was perfect. He knew the menu exceedingly well and was charming and helpful. The food was fabulous, especially the sorghum cake dessert. I had read raves about it, and was determined to try it even though I was so full. So our table of four shared two servings and it was fabulous. Great location. Great night. Recommend FIG without reservation."

  • "This restaurant was wonderful. The tile fish was to die for. Everything in the restaurant looked delicious and the waitstaff was wonderful. Don't miss this place."

  • "My first visit to Charleston and impressed by the great restaurants. The 9 vegetable salad was unique and imaginative. Loved their fish . Dessert topped a wonderful meal."

  • "We had a mixture of things, gnocchi Bolognese, salad of local spring vegetables, the fish stew (which is always fabulous), and softshell crab with a beurre blanc which was the star of the evening. The bar scene is great for couples of all ages to grab dinner and have a conversation (the noise level is perfect), and the bar tenders are very knowledgeable and talented. I wish they would bring back the salted caramel budino. We will be back!"

  • "It is obvious that Fig tries hard. For the most part, they succeed. However, two aspects fell short. One, the menu is too limited. Two, the hostesses walking around with a clipboard and taking notes as they walk by is annoying. Good food, service, and excellent, well selected wine list. "

  • "FIG lives up to its well deserved reputation. The Yellowbird cocktail was amazing - fresh yet mysterious made with French Chartreuse that left a taste of a garden air. My date and I shared an appetizer of fresh, briny oysters. We don't usually eat swordfish but chef's nuanced layered flavors on the mustard crusted swordfish were delicious and the fish was moist. The pork schnitzel was as good as I've had in Berlin. A great meal was topped off with the best ever Meyer lemon pudding with a compote made with Italian cherries. I haven't tasted that sublime flavor in 35 years when my parents would bring preserved cherries from Italy. This chef takes great care in his creations. Try it if you appreciate that. "

  • "FIG is more like a NYC restaurant than lowcountry dining. It was innovative and a haven for "foodies." Staff was very knowledgeable and attentive, and noise level was moderate away from the bar. When you go, and you will, don't miss the melt-in-your-mouth ricotta gnocchi. Too yummy."

  • "FIG is a smart, friendly and sophisticated restaurant that is a great choice for a casual dining experience with great locally sourced cuisine, friendly considerate service and comfortable atmosphere. My wife and dined late and the staff was as attentive as they might be for an earlier seating. The food was wonderful, including an interesting side called Farrotto, which consisted of carrots and Farrotto done in a risotto style, and which was delicious. Our server Emily was outgoing, knowledgeable and attentive. FIG is one of Charleston's finer dining choices for cuisine, service and value."

  • "Just a fantastic meal all around. Wonderful service and staff, delicious starters and mains, great dessert. Menu changes often, but the veggies are the star of any plate. Not to take away from whatever else is there, but the fresh, seasonal veggies are really the show stopper."

  • "So FISG doesn't have a great ring, but F.I.G. doesn't say enough. You must dine here. The menu choices and descriptions actually didn't seem very appetizing but everyone's meals were excellent. The best meal and desserts we had in Charleston, hands down. Make your reservations early so you don't miss the opportunity to eat here."
