Diner Reviews
  • "We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation. I had requested the sunroom but it was going to be awhile before we could get a table so we sat in the main lobby/ bar area which turned out to be great and less noisy. Excellent salads and very good service although towards the end our waitress sort of neglected us when we asked for bowls of berries and more tea. Took forever for that! The decor is beautiful a at and it's definitely a special occasion place!"

  • " We were a group of five, celebrating my sons 33rd Birthday. Everything went well. Service, suggestions by our waitress, and the fish was cooked well. The salads were fine but not special. My complaint is that when I was scooting out of our round table my new St John slacks snagged on both of my thighs. I am not heavy, I weigh135 pounds. The table had a protruding piece. I told the manager and she took my contact info. That was 2 days ago. Watch out for the tables!"

  • "Our second visit in a week. Food and Service as good as the first visit. Table we were offered was very cramped though and we asked to be moved. 5 other couples did the same afterwards. I doubt we were the first. So perhaps be a little less greedy on the seat count.....otherwise great."

  • "A bit noisy and the amount of pillows in the curved booths made it difficult to sit but our waiter (who apparently was brought down from the LA location) was absolutely terrific and did a wonderful job of guiding us through the menu and making our girls' night out for the holidays a fantastic experience!"

  • "Service was neither good nor professional. Olive Garden waitress did better for lunch..."

  • "I love this restaurant & find the food to be outstanding! The restaurant itself is beautiful. My recent visit was consistent with prior experiences but I felt something was lacking and a little sub-par. My party of 4 was there for brunch to celebrate one retirement and one birthday. I requested the White Room but was told when I arrived the room was booked for a bridal shower....had I been told this ahead of time, I would have scheduled a different date. I was also told there would be dessert of some kind, complimentary. This did not happen...we ended up ordering 2 desserts anyway. I did not want to make a big deal out of this therefore I did not bring it up with the server. My guests enjoyed the brunch, that's all that really mattered. "

  • "When on Sunday with my family first impressions of the restaurant beautiful. Unfortunately we sat at our table 6 of our eight glasses were dirty. Food was good will not order the crab again, as for service was like you would find at the Olive Garden. The waiter said that we should not come on Sundays because everyone is hung over from Saturday night. This is the second time I've have eating at the restaurant pretty much with the same service, think I'll wait until they get new managers and waiters before I return."

  • "Good food, attentive staff, great atmosphere in a large venue that didn't overpower. Enjoyed it enough to go back for our last night at Newport Beach."

  • "The food is worth the price, so delicious! I ordered the chops cooked med rare as suggested by the chef, they were perfect very tender and flavorful. Our group was 8 women, we sat in the gorgeous patio, loved the round table we were easily able to see & talk with each other which made our night very special! The only funny thing was we were celebrating a birthday and the birthday "dessert" was literally two blueberry and one raspberry with a candle in the raspberry, we got a good laugh though! Took a trip to sprinkles only 5 min away to finish off our night!"

  • "Fashion Island place that's overrated. I was shocked to see coat hanging for men who didn't wear them as it doesn't feel that dressy to me nor does the menu deserve that type of attire.it has a nice outside but a lot of restaurants have nice outside with ocean view or mountain views so you just get a view of outside in the middle of Fashion Island.the service was exceptional the server was exceptional everything. I just didn't think the food was that great. The crostini was soggy. The lobster salad bland. Steak little well done."

  • "We sat "outside" which is actually enclosed by glass walls and a retractable ceiling. The setting was beautiful, like being in the Med . Food was excellent and quite artistic and was a fusion of many flavors. Be sure to try the crostini samples. We went for brunch, the service was excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion for an elegant relaxed setting."

  • "Bad service. Waited one hour even with a reservation."

  • "Sat at our table for 20 minutes while waiters just walked by not one asking if we had been helped yet, even why I would look at them like are you our waiter. I had to walk up to the hostess desk to ask if maybe a waiter did not know they were assigned. Then finally they sent someone. We had two friends join us, this time the waiter quickly came over and took their entire order, then failed by letting their food come out before their drinks! I worked in restaurants through college and taking initiative when seeing a table sitting for more than 5 minutes with out being greeted is service 101, was surprised that a restaurant of this caliber would have missed that. We tipped him 20% but he didn't deserve it."

  • "This is what OC needs more of- professional kitchen and staff!! If you are visiting from Europe or East Coast and looking for a place to go - this is it!!!"
    Dined on 4/11/2014
  • "Loved the food at this new hot spot. The restaurant is gorgeous too. The service was great. Only issue for us was that it was really noisy because it was mobbed. We would recommend it anyhow."
    Dined on 4/11/2014
  • "I figured the service needed to go through the opening jitters but it hasn't improved. With as many people as they have working there, there is no excuse for inattentiveness. The food is really good but this time they forgot to add the hazelnuts in my salad. How does that happen? It is a beautiful restaurant and I really hope it does well but please train your staff."
    Dined on 4/9/2014
  • "The service was excellent, but the food was mediocre and too expensive. There is so much hard scape in the restaurant that the noise level was horrible. Having a conversation was difficult. I doubt I will ever return."

  • "This was my second time going here. The food was great but the waiter was very slow to refill our drinks. Other than that, wonderful experience."

  • "Third time at fig and Olive. food was exceptional. Still very noisy in main and central dining room. Lighting a bit too bright for fine dining, Beautiful restaurant"

  • "Loved everything about it... service, atmosphere, food and wine. I live in the LA area and will definitely check out the local F&O."

  • "This is an amazing restaurant with great food and a lovely atmosphere. It's perfect for a girlfriends gathering or an intimate date. I highly recommend it."

  • "Beautiful restaurant...Great dinner service, EXCELLENT bar service! Great Sirloin steak...One of the best steaks around...Better than a Filet at the neighboring restaurants...Appetizers and salads are top notch."

  • "When you plan a night out of good food, good wine and special friends, and spend a lot of $, the last thing you want is to be in and out in an hour! That's what happened when we went to Fig & Olive. We were pushed to order each course, and the food literally came out in 3 minutes each time. They seemed only concerned about moving the tables. It's a shame because the place is beautiful and the food was pretty good."

  • "best looking restautant in the OC, most interesting variable room/ambiance choices, amazing food acorss the board, servers are a joke other than the female "greeters"... 10 on food 1 on service Only the waiters are halfway professional and knowledgeable, food deliverers are clusless (mistaking a ahi carpaccio for a beef , really ?) and if you want some table side entertainement order the dover sole and watch them debone it...."

  • "orange county is so small. There's always the new little hot spot that all of orange county hangs at. For now Fig and Olive is that. A reservation is definitely needed to even get in the door. Food is amazing! Unfortunately the rumors are true... the service is horrible!"

  • "great ambiance and a good time, the food took a long time to come out but the staff was sincerely apologetic and took care of our desert."

  • "My fiance and I had a gift card to this restaurant. From the valet attendant to the bus boy refilling my water glass, every person we came in contact with was very friendly. This was a welcome surprise after being escorted to our table and seeing the clientele surrounding the bar. We are in our late 20's, this bar is definitely a hang out for the older, single crowd. The food was delicious and when I could not decide on a wine, our server brought me tasters of his favorites. He was also entertaining and very cordial which I never expect in an upscale Newporty restaurant. Although it has limited menu options we both enjoyed our meal and the people watching."

  • "The ambience was beautiful and my guest loved the restaurant . The food and service was excellent."

  • "This was our first time here; we were very impressed with the atmosphere, food and service. We have dined at many 5 star restaurants; this is bar far one of the best."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Was not seated until 45 minutes after our reservation time. Only seated after a complaint to the manager about the excessive wait time. Horrible service. Kitchen closed only minutes after we sat down. Were only able to order appetizers, which came out wrong."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Good food, service is spotty but the real draw to this place is all the people watching and the crowded nightclub like scene. Not sure why people, it's a mall......"
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "This relatively new restaurant exudes energy that emanates from the trendy bar scene into the well designed dining areas. I had heard that the service was spotty but that was during the opening weeks when the restaurant was finding its legs. Our server, Matt, was knowledgeable and attentive. My Chilean Sea Bass was cooked perfectly. Extensive and affordable wine list offered great choices for pairing Manager was highly visible and touched our table twice to check on our experience. Highly recommend"

  • "Heard a lot about the restaurant. It was definitely a scene. Service seemed to be hurried. Food was ok but not particularly notable."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Beautiful place, very lively. Difficult to get drinks, too crowded. Hard to get a table for large group, waited an hour for our table for 8 even though we had reservations. Food was decent. My lobster risotto was under cooked. Definitely not for large groups."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "Next time I'll just go for drinks and appys. The crostinis and yellow fin carpaccio were the highlights of my meal. I had the sea bass as an entree, it was nice and prepared perfectly, but nothing that extraordinary."
    Dined on 4/1/2014
  • "I had dinner at Fig and Olive this week and it was great. Our server, Laurent, was very attentive and helpful. The food was great. We will definitely be coming back."
    Dined on 4/1/2014
  • "This is a place where you get everything you could want in a dining experience--great modern Mediterranean farm to table food, beautiful ambience and the highest level of service. It is a large restaurant and can get a bit loud, but eating on the gorgeous outdoor covered patio might help with that. I would eat there all the time but for the cost, which is definitely on the high side, but worth every penny. You cannot eat, drink or be treated any better."
    Dined on 3/31/2014
  • "Fig & Olive, much like its LA counterpart has amazing food, and great service, and a fun atmosphere. The crowd at the newport outpost seems to be a bit older, but the overall experience is fantastic. The bar area is vibrant, yet the dining room is quite and intimate."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "Great restaurant with amazing Med food. Glad to find this huge and beautifully designed restaurant at Fashion Island. Extensive menu. Everything we ordered was well plated and executed. Flavor was right on. Even coffee was done well."
    Dined on 3/30/2014
  • "I've dined at many fabulous places and heard about this new hot spot in OC. Definitely the hot spot but service was horrible. Food was okay. I think you're just paying for the scenery where people dressed up like they are going to a club. BUT it is OC and there's probably nothing else to do. If you're look for a hot spot this is the place. If you're looking for service and excellent food, definitely not this place. Oh and did I mention you have to wait in line (even with reservations) out front for a manager to come and get you like it was a club? LOL hilarious."
