Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed a wonderful dinner of fresh crab and tomato, lobster salad and a whole sole. Delicious Mediterranean cuisine minus the ocean. To do it right, this restaurant is expensive, special occasion, but totally worth it."

  • "Back again! We love Fig and Olive, it's our new favorite! We always have a great time!"

  • "Came in for brunch with a friend, and wow were we impressed! The service was on point, the food was to die for, and the restaurant itself is stunning!! Thank you so much for your kind hospitality!"

  • "Last minute reservation with my daughters for brunch while shopping. The restaurant is gorgeous and the food was amazing. One of my daughters recommended it because she has been for dinner and she said today was just as good. Everyone on staff there was so kind and the manager, (Hugo I think) was extremely sweet and helpful as well. He took time to chat with us and convinced me to come in with my husband for dinner. I am so glad we did not skimp on the crostinis! They made the meal!"

  • "I have been here for dinner and the food was delicious, however brunch was horrible. My quiche came out cold. The eggs we ordered had no salt. The pizza my son ordered was made with nasty dough. It was disappointing as I was celebrating my birthday and was not happy about the food."

  • "I love this place but last time the place was just dead!! Took some friends there to show them how great this place was, but of course that night had to be dead. Music was just not good and there were too many unoccupied tables. Hopefully next time will be better."

  • "Great food and drinks. Definitely a place to be seen."

  • "Phenomenal experience! Everything was delicious! We had the seafood tower appetizer. Yum! Crostinis are yummy! Especially the crab one and the mushroom! I had bouillabaisse. It was like lobster bisque with amazing seafood in it."

  • "Great location but food not that good. All 4 diners in my party agreed."

  • "My wife and I dined at Fig & Olive for the first time this week. The food was fantastic (I had the best lamb chops I have ever tasted). The wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive. I am going to use this place for an important business dinner next week."

  • "Food was okay to good, not great... for most of our dishes. Services was terrific. The restaurant is very nicely decorated. The noise level was very high and made it very difficult to communicate. Not a place you want to be to have a quiet conversation. Good experiance."

  • "A beautiful restaurant with gorgeous decor and ambiance. Four ladies ordered the prix fixe lunch. Delicious. Signature salad was a stand out. Service was a bit slow and soup had to be returned as it was served lukewarm. Highly recommended for a leisurely, special occasion lunch."

  • "The first time we were there it was GREAT so anxious to go again and bring friends. However, I was embarrassed because the food was just OK and we were never offered their breads of olive oils---why??????"

  • "Dramatically appointed, each room elegantly designed and warmly received. Excellent service, main room the best, have tried patio as well, great for lunch. Amy was our waitress and very attentive. Wait staff is holding back trying to take your plates away, much better timing. Only negative is $6.00 to valet. Way too expensive, park at Fashion Island for free!"

  • "Decided to come on a Monday night, the Restaurant is usually really busy on Fridays or Saturdays when I usually go. This quieter crowd was a nice change. Got a table outside which was great. Our server was very nice and he did realize we wanted to take our time. Unfortunately when we were ready to order drinks, then food, it took what seemed like forever to get someone's attention. It also took a very long time to get our drinks which was a bit frustrating. The cristinis were spot on as usual. The pastas we got were both incredibly al dente, a bit too al dente even. Overall I've had many other positive dining experiences here. Just slow on a Monday night maybe."

  • "Three of us went for lunch. We shared 6 different crostini to start. They were not memorable. One of us ordered salmon requesting medium rare. It was well done. They did offer to bring another but we didn't want to wait. The scallops were way too salty. The steak salad was okay. On the plus side, the service was excellent & the restaurant itself is beautiful. I would not go back for lunch but I understand dinner is better. Might give that a try."

  • "Eclectic modern menu. The tastes were new and fresh. We tried lots of different things and shared. The wait staff was attentive and numerous. Maybe it was a little pricey for some of the dishes but overall a great experience."

  • "Excellent Branzini for 2 and goat cheese ravioli. All 6 crostini we tried were delicious. The waiter didn't return to explain the dipping oils - he said he would be walking us through them so this was disappointing. Also we all wish he had been more attentive to our table: drinks - lost out on a round because he didn't come back until it was too far in the meal; appetizer - would have ordered another for table since it takes a while for Branzini to cook; steak - ordered medium by the diner but was medium rare. By the time he came back to check on things, she didn't want to send it back since others were far into the meal. Wondering if less attentive b/c we're young? Maybe, but we like fine dining, have $, and tip well when deserved."

  • "Came to fig & olive on Saturday night. It was really busy and the night scene was really happening. Bobby was our server and he was awesome. Although the patio was really busy he was able to take great care of us and spend time explaining the menu in detail. He is very personable and really knows how to make people feel special. Definitely one of the reasons why I will be coming back. I ate the the chicken tajine one of his recommendations and it was one of the best chicken dishes I have ever had. The dj which I was not aware of is there 3 days a week was playing great new music which my girls and I love. Thanks Fig & Olive for a great night we will see you soon!"

  • "We drive by this restaurant all the time as we live in Newport Beach and always see the fanciest cars outside of it. One day we decided to have a date night without our child and to try it out. Firstly, do NOT bring your children here. The food was amazing and delicious but the price is quite high. For 2 people we spent $150 (4 drinks, 1 app, 2 entrees, 1 dessert). This place is very hip and trendy and all of the rich and fabulous are here to see and be seen on week nights. Cougar central... women on the prowl for rich men EVERYWHERE. That part was a little overwhelming. The restaurant is pretty loud and it was hard to have an intimate romantic dinner here. Glad I tried it but definitely will NOT be returning here with my husband."

  • "It was our first time dining in Fig & Olive and it was a very good one. We've loved the food the most but everything else was very good too. We will definitely recommend it to our friends and we are looking forward going there again."

  • "Having dined at Fig and Olive in Melrose, we looked forward to trying the Newport location with friends, and were delighted. For and service were excellent. Be aware, however, that the club scene descends at 8pm, which a noticeable shift in ambience and decibels. Plan accordingly."

  • "Lovely garden atmosphere on the patio.... Crostini appetizer sampler and spinach with figs were especially delicious. Service was prompt and attentive. Would definitely recommend."

  • "First time trying it. Great menu and overall very good food-particularly all the choices to complement our wine-crostinis and the cheese plate in particular. Our waitress was very good and she made all the difference. Definitely try it. On the downside, the reception as we walked in was poor-the receptionist acted like she could barely be bothered. The table for two was ridiculously small and the servers kept working to try to reorganize everything to fit. The noise level was way too loud and it did interfere with our ability to have a private conversation. We will go back and try again, but I would avoid it on Saturday evening if you are looking for conversation. Great if all you want is good food."

  • "Went there first time for lunch. Like the decor and ambiance. Service was below average. My server was kind of day dreaming. Missing sugar for my cappuccino and missing a pen for the credit card payment. Appetizer were great! We had a lobster bisque and octopus. Main course: sea bass and lamb chop were just ok. Dessert was a disappointment. Chocolate souffle, it was more like a warm chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream from a regular restaurant."

  • "Everything was excellent, food, service, ambiance, etc... The staff was good to accommodate a surprise little person add-on. I didn't realize our guests were bringing their toddler but it was no problem. We had a very enjoyable and leisurely lunch although I wouldn't suggest this as a place to bring toddlers, it happened to work out in this instance."

  • "This is my third meal at Fig and Olive. I recommended it on Saturday for a reunion with some old work friends that were from out of town. They enjoyed it very much as it was near where we used to work and go to lunch. And as always the food was outstanding. And I thought the service was exceptionally good. Our waitress was so attentive to our needs!"

  • "This was the second time we went to F&O. Both times the food was mediocre. The melon and burrata salad and lobster risotto were particularly good. The Chilean sea bass and chicken tajine particularly bad. It's probably the noisiest restaurant I've ever been to. The first time we went the service was good. We had a great waiter. The second time was so terrible I doubt I will return. She was so slow that by the time we ordered, waited, ate and waited for cleanup of our starters she still hadn't been back to take our main course order. There was about an hour between courses. I was not in a rush, but there's a big difference between a leisurely meal /waiter and a negligent one. She also didnt offer us the olive oil sampling you usually get."

  • "The ambience was amazing, the appetizer was very delicious, but the main course was not as good as I expected to be."

  • "The five members of our family went to Fig & Olive for our son's 17th birthday. Legitimately, they wouldn't seat all of until we had all arrived. The setting is very clean/modern, with extremely high ceilings, which seem to exacerbate the noise level, along with trendy music that seemed unnecessarily loud. We were seated at a larger table than was necessary for five... it could have seated seven or eight, and as the evening went on, I grew tired of trying to make myself heard. Food was exceptional. We started with the crostini and were very impressed. The truffled risotto was incredible. Highly recommend if you want a "cool" place, good food, can get a small table, and have no one in your party that is hearing impaired."

  • "Beautiful people, nice ambience, great service but the noise level was too high. The food was well prepared except the lobster in the lobster pot pie which was a little too tough. The chilian sea bass was delicious and the crostini were tasty. Would definitely come back on special occasion"

  • "Frequented by pretentious type clientele. A little too stuffy for my taste."
    Dined on 8/5/2014
  • "We ate one evening and were seated in one of the ancillary sections of the restaurant. The main area was vibrant and very welcoming. The area where we were seated was crisp with white seating. The ambience improved when the lights were dimmed as the evening progressed. The food was very good - a good standard. It was however let down by disappointing service. The wine which was ordered at the start of the meal had not arrived by the time our appetisers arrived. We had to remind the waiter who seemed to have forgotten the order. This was then promptly rectified. I (and a neighbouring diner) was surprised when the bill arrived and the suggested gratuity ranged from 18% (minimum) to nearly 25%. We did not choose the upper limit suggested"

  • "The patio is the BEST in OC and the food combined with great ambiance make for a wonderful dining experience. The menu is unique and varied to suit every member of one's group. We loved sharing several entrées and a decadent chocolate dessert. I really like the use of figs in many dishes as it's a favorite of mine."

  • " Fig n Olive is excellent. The food was tasty and eclectic. Waiters are a little slow, and frequently forget things. Waiting 20+ minutes every time to get a another bottle of water, $195 bottle of wine was great, the Chateaubriand waitress was excellent. Recommending it!! Dessert also out of this world."

  • "Recently went to Fig & Olive at Fashion Island for brunch. While the design is nice and the service is good, the food is average. It is what it is. A spinoff of a great NYC restaurant in a OC mall parking lot. The Melrose location has better ambience and higher quality food. The Fashion Island location feels like a mall version of that. There's nothing really bad about this location, but there are better restaurants in Newport Beach. Maybe because it's so big, the food seems like it's made by a line cook, not a chef. Eggs are fine, mimosas are good, but you can get that anywhere. If you've never been to other Fig & Olive's, you'll like this location. If you have been to the Melrose or NYC locations, you'll be disappointed."
