  • "I'm a regular at the fig and olive in Newport and I have to say that the Melrose location is trash. The service was horrible; slow, unaccomodating, and rude. The food was cold and I swear the portions were smaller and at the least tasty. The food wasn't even plated as nice as they do at the other location. The ambiance was okay but I prefer the crowd at Newport. I'll never go here again. Also the two top tables are wayyyy to small and mine was wobbling the whole night"

  • "Very nice room. And at $28 for prix fixe lunch, a great deal. Only problem was our waitress took at least 20 minutes to even get us water, and the restaurant wasn't that busy. We had to ask another waiter three times to please get our waitress. But would definitely go back. Every place has an off day. Food just fabulous."

  • "Took a group of 6 for dinner and everyone was happy with their meals. The portions are not big, probably to encourage diners to order appetizers. The white bass in papliotte was flaky and moist. The shrimp and pasta was filling and delicious. The rack of lamb was served under a smokey dome and unveiled at the table for a little ooh and ahh. The folks who ordered the chicken said it was delicious. Would definitely go back."

  • "I took my Mother-in-Law for Mother's Day and was pretty put off by our waiter who was very disinterested and somewhat insulting. He disappeared and we waited over and hour for our food. The staff tried bringing us other people's food as well as dessert before we ever got our meals. Yesterday, I brought a client with me and let the server know we were on a time crunch and had to be out by 1:45. This was after waiting 10 minutes for him to even approach the table. It wasn't busy and there were only three of us. At 1:45, when our meals still had not arrived (after many requests) the server did not apologize and asked if we'd like to cancel our order. Pretty embarrassing. You cannot justify the cost for the service delivered. I won't be back."

  • "Lunch for two ... it was lovely. Had a great server - quite charming and good at his job. Loved the food ... went for the crostini, gazpacho and an appetizer and then (barely) had room for dessert. The crostini is not to be missed; you can choose any combination ... loved the goat cheese with carmelized onion and the fig, cheese and prosciutto. It's a lovely setting and fairly quiet at lunch because it was only about a third full but our server said it's VERY lively on Thur, Fri and Sat evenings as there's a DJ."

Our Waitress was great and took care of our needs and never seemed to be intruding on our conversation. Would recommend this restaurant without hesitation."

  • "Fig & olive really delivers on many levels. The selection of food is enough that there are many reasons to return & try more menu options but not so many as to overwhelm when making a decision. Quality of service was attentive but not hovering. Our service was very helpful in making food choices based on our tastes & was also able to suggest wonderful pre dinner cocktails & meal wine pairings. Empty plates were not left long on the table but we never felt rushed through our entire experience. Decor was fresh & simple & in keeping with the Mediterranean theme. Really glad to have found this great restsurant & it's within walking distance from our hotel The Elan on Bev Blvd."

  • "We started with some great cocktails at the bar, all of them were fantastic. Started our dinner with 6 different crostini (3 each), simply divine ... The olive oil with bread on the side is soft and delicious, we had the fig and olive salad and crab as starter, the Yellowfin Tuna and Paella as main and dessert crostini and chocolate pot de creme to round it up. All were very balanced and every flavour was spot on. The food is worth every penny and more. But most of all, besides the nice atmosphere and decor, our waitress was the most friendly, helpfull and pretty of all LA ... Will surely repeat this great experience."

  • "My husband and I have been lucky enough to eat here a few times in the last month and have enjoyed ourselves tremendously each time. The space is beautifully designed, clean and bright but warm and inviting. The menu has something to please everyone and the mid week prix fixe is such a deal. I loved both the Chicken Tajine and the Salmon, my husband the Tuna and the Goat Cheese Ravioli. The service brings it over the top. No matter who you are you feel like you are the most important person in the room, without being cloying or overly attentive. I like going to a place where everyone seems to be happy to be working there and happy to be taking care of you. I shows a well run restaurant. It has become our go to place in Los Angeles."

He arranged a special dessert for a birthday we were celebrating. The food is fresh, interesting and delicious. The room is gorgeous in a very understated way. This will continue to be our go-to special occasion place."

  • "I absolutely love this place. Everything about it is perfect. Great ambience - the bar is open & the bar lounge area SO comfy & inviting. They have about a 30' ceiling, and the restaurant section is completely open to a courtyard - the whole thing is just lovely. The food? Every single thing I have had has been wonderful! They serve the MOST fabulous oil oil tasting tray with yummy bread cubes, and if you love an olive oil - you can buy a bottle! I am very picky about my wine lists and this is a really good one. This is a great place for lingering, but I must say the other day they got me in and out in 20 minutes for lunch, I was in such a rush I shouldn't really have stopped but I can't resist this place! They always treat me like a VIP!"

Decided to revisit for lunch prix fixe and as hoped had a much better experience. The dinning room is more beautiful in the light, and I thought the food was better- more accessible, plentiful and strikes the right balance between nicely presented but not fussy."

  • "Conversation, even at elevated voice, was nearly impossible. The waiter offered up information on specials standing mid-table and I could not hear a word he said. That's ridiculous. In addition tables are so close together I stood a better chance of hearing the diner next to me at a different table than the person across the table with me. The food was quite good, service was mostly well done. Oddly my silverware was taken prior to my bouillabaisse arriving, leaving only a spoon to tuck into large chunks of fish, including shrimp. When I got our waiter's attention, she promptly offered a fork and life, but brusquely. Odd. The restaurant has a lot going for it, food wise. However, no romantic dinner here. It felt more like a sports bar."

  • "It's really unfortunate how bad service was, because the food is quite good. I would have put it all on a badly run kitchen if we hadn't arrived early and been completely ignored for over half an hour. Granted it was Father's Day; I take holidays into account. But what we experienced was really quite ridiculous. The graduation ceremony ended early so we arrived an hour before our reservation. We decided to hang out in the bar and have drinks and appetizers while we waited for our table. From the time we sat down, it was nearly an hour before our drinks arrived. The appetizers didn't get to us until we were seated at our table. Another hour after we placed our order for lunch to arrive. Food was well-prepared, but not quite hot."

  • "the surprise bday dinner for my mom couldn't have gone off any better, thanks to fig & olive's cooperation. the front of the house didn't betray a thing & seated my guests before my mom & i arrived. our waiter couldn't have been more genuinely sweet & solicitous & seemingly happy to make us happy. i think we all felt totally buffeted, free to enjoy our little bubble of good times at our own pace. all my guests thoroughly enjoyed the evening & were grateful for such a gracious & delicious dining experience."
