Diner Reviews
  • "Nice fancy place to eat at, well dressed customers. Servers were fast and efficient with beverage/drinks orders. Always checking to see if we were doing okay and if we need anything. Stopped by to check how our food taste. Food was very good and tasty."

  • "The food was delicious. The meats we had were top notch and well cooked. Appetizers were phenomenal, especially the lobster bisque. Our waiter was a little slow and inattentive, but he recommended a good wine for us so we can't be too unhappy with him. Overall a great experience."

  • "The food was absolutely amazing and service was great. I came here for dineLA and I am definitely coming back!"

  • "I took my wife to Fig & Olive for her birthday, and...we LOVED it!! The Fig & Olive salad was delicious, and the truffle mushroom croquettes were... beyond scrumptious!! She had the lamb chops...I had the filet mignon. I really loved the ambiance too...not really wild and modern (like BOA), but just "elegantly casual." Service was terrific. We WILL be back there, soon!!"

  • "Food was imaginative, well presented, fresh and interestingly flavored. Service was pleasing. Patrons were better dressed than many places - only a few Hawaiian shirts. Noise can be a problem."

  • "Fig and olive is a large place that manages to produce food of a consistently good standard."

  • "Definitely a cut above most LA restaurants but a step below the finest. Everything enjoyable, no loose ends."

  • "We did dinela and maybe their food was disappointing because of it....? I really wanted to love it but the food was bleh. We got the carpaccio which was typical and too salty. The lobster bisque tasted watered down. My salmon tartar was bland. My husband's mussel arborio tasted fine except they gave very little seafood. We sat upstairs and it seemed that was where they sat all the dinela folks. The downstair is nicer with a ny feel. The dessert was good for both our meals especially my husband's chocolate mousse. The service was good. Overall we were disappointed with the food."

  • "What can I say other than the food was delicious and had great presentation, service was professional and yet friendly, restaurant was beautiful and crowd was lively."

  • "For Dine n LA week we always do something old and something new...well Fig & Olive was our new experience and it wowed us at every turn! We were late for our reservation but was seated immediately. The water Mike (cool hair) was there within minutes and was very helpful! We started with El Matador cocktails and from that moment on our palates were pleasantly pleased!! The prices are reasonable and the portions are plentiful so there's enough to share...I will definitely return to F&O"

  • "We were greeted with a smile by two friendly hosts, who offered to take us immediately to our table but once we mentioned that our entire party hadn't arrived yet, kindly offered to have a bartender take care of us at the bar. Once our group was complete, we made our way to our table which was in the center of the room under the fig tree. Our server was incredibly attentive. Even the manager of the restaurant came to make sure all was well while we enjoyed our meals. From start to finish, we felt incredibly cared for. The food was amazing, which was matched by equally amazing service. The ambience was beautifully perfect for my dinner party. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my family, friends and clients!"

  • "Fig & Olive is a total scene - get dressed up and get ready for lots of people watching in a beautiful venue. The food is okay, I think the cocktails greatly outshine the entrees and apps (with the exception of the Crostinis, especially the strawberry one for dessert). The staff is nice, but they remind me of the stereotypical aspiring actors: Gorgeous but not the smartest around. However, everyone was very attentive and polite. Valet is $8. All street parking have a 2 hour limit until very late at night."

  • "Fig and Olive is one of the few top-tier LA restaurants that haven't left me a bit disappointed at one time or another, and is the ONLY place I've eaten so far for DineLA that didn't give me the vague impression that they reserve their best dishes for their regular menu. Case in point: the generous plate of succulent lamb chops served up last night. They bring them too the table garnished with a still-smoking sprig of rosemary (they were rosemary smoked) that left the whole dining room smelling like incense. My only complaint was that they were a bit salty, possibly from being brined, but the flavor was still fantastic. Service was a bit off, but our server and the manager more than made up for it with wine and dessert on the house."

  • "I''ve been there before for lunch and the atmosphere is totally different. I went to dine this time and the noise level is almost unbearable. You have to shout every time to be listened to, and on top of that you hear endless beat, beat music in the background that makes it even worse. I will never go back to dine for that single reason. Lunch is ok."

  • "We had another Dine L.A. lunch there on a week day, choice was excellent (quinoa salad, salmon tartar, chocolat pot de creme, wich was heavenly!). We had a six piece sample of their bruschetta first: yummy little toasts, just a mouthful of surprising taste combinations, loved the one with Marcona almonds & cheese and one with super tender bacon... Wine list is good, service friendly and not pushing. Room was full, but I could hear every single word my friends were saying, which - in L.A. these days! - is one of the strongest arguments for this lovely place. Great food AND not deaf the next day from yelling and music and something that sounds like a departing Airbus in the kitchen?! Come on, "Fig & Olive" really is an oasis of feel good!"

  • "I love the light and comfortable seating, the live rosemary bushes and the buzzy ambiance. As a food lover I enjoyed the olive oil samplers on the table and the bread is wonderful. The service was of much higher quality than one usually finds in LA, the wait staff unobstrusive but very responsive, they made us feel well taken care of while managing not to interfere with our dining experience. The crostini are my favorite, I will definitely be back to try more. The salads are amazing, perfectly dressed and with slightly unexpected but wonderful combinations of ingredients exciting to the palate. My lunch guest was a British author who has had many excellent culinary adventures and even he loved the food. We'll be back!"

  • "Opted for the Dine L.A. Menu. But added the crostini which I wanted my guest to try. The appetizers and desserts were excellent, especially the truffle croquettes. The entrees did not live up to our expectations.....fish in the paella was over cooked. Wines by the glass are very overpriced. Lovely ambience and friendly service, but be prepared for a very pricey bill! Enjoyed the olive oil/bread sampler!"

  • "Love the food and love how the place is set up. Nice comfy lounging area while waiting for your table and can have drinks while waiting. Great ambience, dim lit which sets up the mood and love the athmosphere."

  • "Went for dineLA, first visit, for lunch. Will definitely return! Lovely, airy space. Started with housemade rosemary bread and olive oil tasting. Wanted to do crostini tasting, but lunch looked pretty substantial - 3 courses, so will try next time. We ordered the beef carpaccio and gazpacho for appetizers, both delicious. Entree- paella and filet mignon salad, also very good. Mom thought the paella a little too salty, but she still liked very much. Dessert - pot de creme and the Harry's Berry's shortbread crostini. The pot de creme was very nice, the berry dessert was amazing!!! The dineLA menu and also the regular menu has lots of choices. Service was very good, attentive, despite the restaurant being busy. A new favorite!"

  • "i will keep it short.... I have been here several times mainly for special occasions. Food is reasonably priced and relative to that of the classy setting. The portions are just right and food is very good. If I had to choose Between this restaurant and a Providence ($$$$) I would choose Fig and Olive every time, it is that good and just as classy."

  • "Fabulous food great service, very trendy but you have to be ready for incredible noise level, definitely not for intimate conversation. One of the few places I will tolerate that noise level as food is so outstanding. Back patio a little quiter"

  • "I was introduced to Fig & Olive via DineLA several years ago. Our party was quite impressed with the food and service and I have been back for dinner on other occasions. Lunch this year on Dine LA was a little more rushed and inattentive. e.g. We ordered a second glass of wine and waited then reminded our server. We enjoyed the truffle mushroom croquette and beef carpaccio, both of us ordered the salmon tartar and the dessert crostini with Harry's berries strawberries was delightful. The chocolate pot DCreme was disappointing. Overall the restaurant is beautiful and we sat in the enclosed patio area which was quiet as per our request on OT."

  • "I'm a regular at the fig and olive in Newport and I have to say that the Melrose location is trash. The service was horrible; slow, unaccomodating, and rude. The food was cold and I swear the portions were smaller and at the least tasty. The food wasn't even plated as nice as they do at the other location. The ambiance was okay but I prefer the crowd at Newport. I'll never go here again. Also the two top tables are wayyyy to small and mine was wobbling the whole night"

  • "Very nice room. And at $28 for prix fixe lunch, a great deal. Only problem was our waitress took at least 20 minutes to even get us water, and the restaurant wasn't that busy. We had to ask another waiter three times to please get our waitress. But would definitely go back. Every place has an off day. Food just fabulous."

  • "Horrible service and food was nothing special...we tried a lot of different items"

  • "Took a group of 6 for dinner and everyone was happy with their meals. The portions are not big, probably to encourage diners to order appetizers. The white bass in papliotte was flaky and moist. The shrimp and pasta was filling and delicious. The rack of lamb was served under a smokey dome and unveiled at the table for a little ooh and ahh. The folks who ordered the chicken said it was delicious. Would definitely go back."

  • "I took my Mother-in-Law for Mother's Day and was pretty put off by our waiter who was very disinterested and somewhat insulting. He disappeared and we waited over and hour for our food. The staff tried bringing us other people's food as well as dessert before we ever got our meals. Yesterday, I brought a client with me and let the server know we were on a time crunch and had to be out by 1:45. This was after waiting 10 minutes for him to even approach the table. It wasn't busy and there were only three of us. At 1:45, when our meals still had not arrived (after many requests) the server did not apologize and asked if we'd like to cancel our order. Pretty embarrassing. You cannot justify the cost for the service delivered. I won't be back."

  • "Lunch for two ... it was lovely. Had a great server - quite charming and good at his job. Loved the food ... went for the crostini, gazpacho and an appetizer and then (barely) had room for dessert. The crostini is not to be missed; you can choose any combination ... loved the goat cheese with carmelized onion and the fig, cheese and prosciutto. It's a lovely setting and fairly quiet at lunch because it was only about a third full but our server said it's VERY lively on Thur, Fri and Sat evenings as there's a DJ."
    Dined on 7/8/2014
  • "It's not what I expected it to be. We were very disappointed by the food... Felt more like a home cooked meal then restaurant quality food. And our waiter was simply rude. Not a place I would go to again or even recommend to anyone I know."

  • "The ambience and food was fantastic! I definitely recommend the lamb chops; my only complaint is the portion sizes. I think they could be a bit more generous, as I was still hungry after my meal"

  • "An upscale, Hollywood-meets-SoHo experience, brought off with aplomb and earnest courtesy. Good food, beautiful room, good looking people splendidly dressed, all delivered without attitude. A very nice place to spend Saturday night!"

  • "My friend was in town who wanted to go someplace nice will look up a restaurant and found this place, i picked it because they used truffle oil in everything. I'm a chef who was in aww. I'll be back."

  • "We had a quiet table in the bar area, where we could talk quietly. The service was terrific and the food was very good. I was with a new date and we spent 3 hours that seemed to fly by. Our Waitress was great and took care of our needs and never seemed to be intruding on our conversation. Would recommend this restaurant without hesitation."
