First of all we had a very pleasant and knowledgable waitress, she was very attentive which was lovely. We shared the Carne Crudo for an appetizer, super fresh filet mignon with delicious focaccia crackers. We then all ordered entrees, my mother and I had the Branzino entree which was super delicious and not too sweet even with all the figs. the Gents enjoyed their various pastas. Our food took a little while to come out but our waitress kept us posted, and considering there was a huge table of women (16) it was understandable. Overall a wonderful experience. We each ordered the fixed price menu for $45 and split a bottle of wine. I had truffles for an appetizer, salmon for entree, and chocolate mousse for dessert; each course was at least as good as the previous one!. Our servers (5 of them?) were all wonderful in their roles; the food was excellent; water glasses were always refilled; our every need was met.
Highly recommended. We could easily chat, but had no time, as we were constantly eating each new great-tasting morsel!

I never went back to this place since then. However, recently in May, had a friend visiting and needed somewhere to go in meatpacking and made a booking here to give it a 2nd try and I was not only amazed, but have become a fan for f&o. The service was just outstanding, which is the it has always been and the food was outstanding. Everything was prepared like a fine art and presented beautifully, the oils and different dishes were explained very succinctly by the waitress (Australian). She was just amazing.

This is saying a lot because I am a finicky (aka critical) person when it comes to eating out, Being a highly accomplished and creative cook I am often disappointed with trendy places. The Fig and Olive is an inspiration; solidly fresh and top grade ingredients, good wine selection, and simple but elegant ambience. The floor manager, Diane, is amazing and orchestrates the seating of walk-ins, reservation holders and late-comers with great ease, professionalism and energy. I will warn that the portions will not stuff you, but that is - for the attractive, well heeled clientele (lots of young slender woman although not as many as the upper east side incarnation of this mediterranean standby) - part of the 'quality.'
We had the lunch prix fixe, but the spacious high ceiling space is excellent however large or luxurious your meal is.

I had the lamp chops and my friend had the filet mignon, and we both practically licked our plates!
