Diner Reviews
  • "I ordered the filet mignon steak salad and the steak was completely over done. I sent it back and the new steak was also quite over done. I have been here for lunch many times and the salads are usually very good. Unfortunately, I had a client with me and I didn't want to focus on my awful meal. I won't be going back anytime soon."

  • "I had been to fig and olive in the meatpacking district and now I was going to give the midtown location a try. Service was great, our waitress was very attentive and polite. This location is a lot smaller however than it's sister location in the meatpacking district. The food and drinks were pretty good. I ordered the salmon, which wasn't dry at all and my financee ordered the lamb chops which were very tender and seasoned perfectly. No complaints there, I also order a red pepper martini was really good. Overall, it was a nice dinner, but in terms of ambiance...I would prefer the meatpacking district, it's larger...and swanky."

  • "Food was fantastic. Server was amazing. Great service and enjoyable atmosphere. Would definitely go there again and will recommend to any friends that live or plan on traveling to Mid-Town NYC."

  • "The food was ok, but nothing that really stood out. And I'm sure I would have given the place a higher rating were it not for the awful service. It was amazingly bad -- I think we were left unattended for an hour after the appetizer arrived and before the waiter reappeared to take our order for the main course. The wait staff had to be told to wipe the table, bring new cutlery and didn't have the sense not to reach in directly in front and across to serve / clear. It just seemed like a bunch of rank amateurs who didn't want to be there."

  • "We were meeting our daughter's future in-laws for the first time, so she wanted a special restaurant. The service was friendly and attentive but not overbearing. We were given several samples of wine to taste before having to commit to a bottle, which resulted in a perfect choice. We split a number of the crostini as well as the cheese. Each item was enjoyed with relish. The one challenge was deciding what to order as everything on the menu sounded so good. We ordered a variety of seafood and pasta dishes and everyone was very happy with their selection. The portions were just right, leaving us pleasantly full but not stuffed. Overall, the perfect dining experience in all ways."

  • "I love fig and olive. The restaurant is a bit noisy and tight - I can't help but compare it to the meatpacking location which is much more open. The food was excellent as always though and the waiter accommodated all of our questions and requests."

  • "I came during NYC Restaurant Week and had an amazing meal! I had the burrata and melon salad to start, the melon was sweet, the mozzarella was soft and delectable, and the basil olive oil was fantastic! The waiter brought over the bread and olive oil, there were 3 types that night, all of them were great! For my entree, I had the filet, it was cooked perfectly! For dessert there were 2 options, so we split them. The strawberry crostini was so good! The shortbread used for the crostini was delicious! The other option, the chocolate panna cotta, was also quite delicious! The service was great, I never felt rushed. It was nice to have a leisurely meal in order to catch up with someone who I hadn't seen in a while. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "The food and atmos were excellent. Very popular place so expect vibrant crowd. Service was a little slow starting. Bread arrived at table a few minutes beford main course. Servicer should have been more attentive to ask if we needed drinks refilled. But afterwards the attention to our table was as expected."

  • "We had a reservation and were disappointed when we arrived on time that we had to wait in line for about 10 minutes along with other people with reservations to be seated. Seems like the host wasn't prepared for the amount of reservations."

  • "We arrived at the restaurant at 7:40 for our 7:45 reservation. We were not seated until 8:20. The food took two hours to arrive. No one explained why it was taking so long and what was wrong except they did bring over the same appetizer we ordered twice. The waiter said the second one was due to the fact they could not get the food out and was completely backed up in the kitchen. All the tables around us were not being served. When the food came out, the lamb chops were very small and overcooked. We did not send back because it was already 10:30 when they arrived. Will not recommend this restaurant! Sadly, last year we loved the meat packing district location and I recommended it to everyone I knew. Now I will not!"

  • "The starting bread is very dry and salty, definitely not fresh. The food is OK overall but the waiting time between courses are too long."

  • "We love the food and atmosphere of this place. We had restaurant week dinner menu. The salmon taetre was awesome! And truffle risotto was amazing too. My friend had steak and salmon, both great too. The customer service is great, too. This is a must eat restaurant during restaurant week :)!!!"

  • "Food was average, pretty bland. I ordered the Paella and the texture was very soggy, a friend of mine got another seafood entree but the portion seemed more appropriate for an appetizer. Also, we were charged for two extra wines and when we pointed it out, our server did not even apologize. Glad I tried it, but I won't be back."

  • "We sat upstairs. They have round tables for larger groups which makes it easy to talk. There were four of us and it was Summer Restaurant Week. The food was very good and our drinks were good too. All our meals were great. I had the salmon, the others had steak and chicken. We all liked the meal except the chicken dish did not have a lot of chicken on the bone."

  • "I discovered Fig & Olive several years ago during Restaurant Week and have returned many times. The food is great, the wait staff attentive without being intrusive, and the management has always been accommodating with special needs. Most recently, I had the Filet Mignon Salad for the first time and it was delicious! Hearty yet healthy, filling and guilt-free. I am a big fan of the Pot de Creme and the little cookies that accompany. Heaven on a spoon! Ahhhh! Thank you, Fig & Olive! I'll be back - again and again."

  • "The quality of the food is outstanding. Portions are perfect. Presentation is appealing. The wait staff during this visit was extraordinarily helpful in presenting the menu and offering selection advice. Another satisfying visit to the mid-town location."

  • "Went for Restaurant Week dinner. The portion was unexpectedly generous. Appetizer - Salmon tartar was quite filling, very fresh and well flavoured Entree - Chicken Tajine was so flavourful and the combination of sides and other elements was thoughtful. Chicken was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Very delicious! Dessert - Chocolate pot de creme was very rich and tasty, perfect end to a perfect meal. The service was great other than having to wait a few minutes to be seated."

  • "Had a porcini risotto delicious. Initially service a little slow, then it improved. Food was wonderful This location could have you near the kitchen. Wicked loud. Hearing the kitchen staff shouting to each other. Very noisy in general wouldn't go back to this location but would certainly try another."

  • "I had a fun, memorable lunch at Fig & Olive, although the food was mediocre. The restaurant was packed and having a reservation was key to quick seating and service--I also didn't expect it to be perfect during busy Restaurant Week. My disappointment was in the food, which all sounded delish--lobster bisque, filet mignon salad, and strawberry-something-sweet on a cookie dessert, but none of it was worth recommending or ordering again. The soup was bland and all puréed (no lobster pieces) and the steak was dry and overcooked. I would give this restaurant one more try for lunch only because the location is convenient and perhaps it's better when it's not Restaurant Week?"

  • "All of the food was fantastic. Great deal for restaurant week."

  • "Yes it's expensive but the appetizers were well portioned and tasted amazing. The combinations are SO creative. And, the staff was extremely helpful in finding the hidden gems on the menu. Possibly the best lamb chops I've had in years! It was all so good that by the time we got to dessert, we were kind of under impressed with what was offered. I guess that's both a plus and minus. Will definitely recommend Fig & Olive to all my friends!"

  • "The food was fantastic, and we sat down in a comfortable spot at the top. I hate it when meats aren't cooked to my specification, but EVERY dish was cooked perfectly. Medium rare was actually medium rare. Our server was also really attentive. The lambchops were, in particular, out of this world."

  • "Everytime we dine here it never disappoints. The food is wonderful every bite is a treasure. We usually ask for the 2nd floor with Stephan. He was not there on our last visit but our server was outstanding as well!!! They are helpful with the seasonal menu with suggestions. I would highly recommend a stop here if you are from out of town you will not be disappointed. We love the location to take a walk after a beautiful meal."

  • "Food was good and menu had something for everyone. Slightly on the pricier side so fair warned. Great central location and easy to walk too. Dessert was slightly burnt but the good wine, good food, and excellent service made up for it. Would recommend the goat cheese ravioli."

  • "We went for restaurant week lunch and were sat on the entrance floor. Our reservation was for 1:00 and we had to wait for about 20 minutes to be seated. Not the greatest when you're on your one hour lunch break. Way too noisy on the entrance floor. We could barely hear ourselves talk. Almost had to scream. The service was good, the food was delicious. I would go back but request upstairs seating. I understand it's a lot quieter up there."

  • "We picked this restaurant based on its ratings and we weren't disappointed! How amazing! The only complaint would be the noise level is a little loud which we didn't mind too much. But I can see how it would take away from a date. We started out with the cheese platter which was very tasty. For dinner we had the sea bass and mushroom truffle risotto. Yummy! Absolutely amazing and flavorful. Can't wait to go back. Staff was very accommodating and friendly."

  • "Great place if you can stand the noise. Seems every table had people shouting to be heard."

  • "I went for Restaurant Week dinner and it was overall a very pleasing experience . The food was delicious and the portion sizes were adequate considering it is their restaurant week pre-fixe menu. The place has a great vibe and would make for a good date spot if you want to impress your date , as well as good for a special location. The Fig&Olive salad was perfect ! They prepared my steak as I ordered it , which is a big plus in my book. I do wish our server had been a little friendlier but she provided adequate service so no complaints although her attitude could have been more cheerful . I would go back !"

  • "Early dinner at 5:30pm, nice table near the window, overall service & ambience great. I don't eat meat very often, but decided to try and old favorite, lamb chops-medium rare. Well presented and flavorfull, but cooekd medium to well. Server gave me an option to re-do the order. I wanted to enjoy this the way (i belive & they reccommended) is ideal. Round 2 came out mostly cooked correctly, one was piece was pretty rare, and all barely had any of the flavor (hardly bothered seasoning it) as the first order. Almost bland, with the exception of the beautiful rosemary twig. Wasn't memorable enough for me to crave the food-which usually makes people return to a restaurant. May be a one-off, it's too bad. My friend said her meal was good."

  • "We loved Fig & Olive because the food is both interesting and delicious and the atmosphere is that of a popular local restaurant - energetic and an attractive modern interior. A good selection of interesting cocktails and great crostini appetizers - order an assortment of 3 or 6 and share! Several great entrees but the simple chicken with roasted potatoes and ratatouille was amazing."
