A word from Fickle
A neighborhood farm to table to table restaurant in the heart of Little Tokyo, with a fickle menu that changes with throughout the seasons. Infusing not only flavor, but heart and compassion into every dish we make. Each dish served at Fickle has the promise of the freshest ingredients made with the utmost technique and care. It is our sincere hope that you enjoy each bite you take.

We share the same location as The Sandwich Smith in Little Tokyo but offer a completely different menu and experience. After The Sandwich Smith closes at 4:30 pm, Fickle opens at 5:30 pm offering a full service menu with delicious seasonal menus created by Chef Ta. Happy Hour begins at 5:00 pm Mon - Fri. The menu changes often, so come back and see us soon!

  • "First visit here, but it made a favorable impression for the most part. We tried the black cod with miso couscous and edamame and pearl onion salad, roasted salmon with corn, bacon, and arugula risotto, and the molasses pork belly with a charred wedge of savoy cabbage (nothing special), kabocha puree and lime pepitas (didn't add much to the dish). The fish was perfectly cooked. It was tender, moist, and honestly the best fish I have had in so Cal. The pork belly was good too, but eat fast because cold pork belly fat just isn't pleasant. The kabocha was good, but its sweetness overpowered the pork belly, I felt. The portions are on the small side, but not too bad."

  • "This is one over several occasions that we have visited Fickle. The one common thread is that the food is always delicious and the service is always attentive. The opening popcorn (instead of bread) is a nice touch as the it is cooked with some sweet and spicy spices, a nice dichotomy of flavors. The seafood is unrivaled each time we eat here. Unfortunately, the portions are quite small and NO, I am not a fat American who practices Gluttony. I appreciate the fact that we need to eat smaller portions but the plates at Fickle go a little too far. Aside from that, the food is fantastic with very fresh ingredients and very flavor mastery of cooking! The service is very attentive and it is right in the heart of Little Tokyo!"

  • "I tried Fickle based on the amazing-sounding menu. I chose a dish called Clam Oxen: clams and oxtails served in a kim chi broth that my waiter said was popular. For me, it was better on paper than in the bowl: the clams were just cockles, and the kim chi broth cut all of the fatty, meaty unctiousness of oxtails. Still, the service and chef are friendly, my companion's flat iron steak over creamy farro was good, and the gratis spiced popcorn and $1.75 Happy Hour oysters were a great start to dinner. Not crowded on a Tuesday evening, making it easy to get in and out for a concert at nearby Disney Hall. I'd try Fickle again and go for the black cod. I'd be pleased to have a more satisfying experience next time."

  • "I booked this restaurant through OpenTable for Valentine's Day after seeing that they had a special His/Hers six-course prix fixe menu for Valentine's Day. Fickle's Website mentioned that the normal menu would not be served that night. Note, I would probably not have chosen to dine at Fickle otherwise, as we were pressed for time getting over to downtown, but the special menu seemed too good to pass up. Upon arriving, we were given normal menus and were told only upon asking that the chef had 'cancelled' the prix fixe because "no one mentioned it upon making a reservation." Again, myself and several other couples we talked to did not mention it upon reservation as we were told it was the only option. Food was decent but bad experience."

  • "I really enjoyed my evening at Fickle. It was my first time dining there as well as my friends. We ordered the avocado fries and they were very good. The Black Cod with Miso Cous Cous, Edamame and Pearl Onion Salad, Dashi Broth was delicious. Definitely want to come back and try other items in the menu."

  • "You may think Little Tokyo just has Japanese restaurants. Not! fickle is real California cuisine - small plates, well-prepared, great presentation. The crispy brussel sprouts and cauliflower is excellent, as is the beet salad. Salmon was crunchy on the outside, moist on the inside. The quail was also very nice, with the exception of the risotto stuffing which I thought was too cheesy and rich for such a delicate little bird. The wait staff is young, attentive, and pleasant. Parking is available directly across the street or in back. fickle is a lovely restaurant."

  • "You can't go wrong at fickle. 2nd visit was just as scrumptious as the first. Kale salad-amazing. Risotto-stupendous. Avocado fries-melt in your mouth incredible. This is a great dining spot before heading to a show downtown. Don't miss it!"

  • "Fickle totally blew me away. Everything here is so creative and carefully put together. It's such a breath of fresh air. Chef James is brilliant, and a heck of a nice guy to boot. Do not miss the avocado fries, the risotto, the black bod and the porkbelly. Nice wine list too! Everything was truly incredible. Impossible to pick a favorite, all the dishes were all excellent in preparation, fresh, quality ingredients and so innovative. The service was excellent by everyone we encountered. I can't wait to bring my best foodie friends here. Great price point too. Anytime we can get out for dinner for around $100, including wine, we are overjoyed."

  • "What a great menu, and several things were truly delicious. We eat out in DTLA a lot and Fickle will definitely be a "go-back-to" place. Bone marrow, oysters, Yukon Gold potatoes, pork belly, and more....plus great Happy Hour beer and prices. Booze and food for two, including dessert, $88. Can't beat it!"

  • "Fickle is an excellent restaurant with some of the most delicious dishes! The Braised Short Ribs fall off the bone and melts in your mouth. One of the tastiest dishes on the menu. The Halibut is also fresh and tender. The Lamb meatballs are unrivaled and is perhaps the tastiest meatball anywhere! The service is attentive and the location is in the heart of Little Tokyo where the outdoor seating gives the customer a great view of the town. Great food, good service and well worth return visits!!!!"
