A word from Fearrington House Restaurant
This romantic farmhouse restaurant, a member of Relais & Chateaux, is "exquisite from start to finish...indeed sublime...at once cleverly original and intelligently conceived, with a nod to tradition," wrote critic Greg Cox of the News & Observer. Chef Colin Bedford's menu is a symphony of the seasonal, local and exotic, carefully sourced and marvelous to taste. Select from an award-winning wine cellar or let Sommelier Max Kast expertly pair wines for each course. Arrive early for an aperitif in the bar, on the front porch of the white-columned farmhouse, in the chairs overlooking the pastures, or while touring extensive gardens. Intimate rooms with fireplaces and exquisite regional art join with the 2011 Gold Medalist menu (N&O) for an exceptional experience. North Carolina’s only AAA Five Diamond restaurant is just a short drive in the countryside, near to Chapel Hill, Cary, Raleigh or Durham.Continued

  • "Terrific all around. Amazing service without fussiness. Incredible timing and preparation of courses. Wine pairings were terrific and unique. Staff went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. Thank you!"

  • "The restaurant is outstanding, not only for its menu creations, but it has also an utterly outstanding wine list. The prices for its 3 or 4 course dinners are extremely reasonable considering the quality of the food, presentation, and service."

  • "Took my wife for her birthday and I can see why the have the reputation they have. The evening was five stars from start to finish. Thank you Fearrington Inn for a great evening."

  • "My wife and I greatly enjoyed our first meal at Fearrington House Restaurant. We expected it may have been a more "stuffy" atmosphere, but the relaxed, friendly attitude of the waitstaff made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Food was fantastic!"

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the three course dinner, and service was also excellent (thank you Daniel!) The gardens in springtime bloom provided a beautiful view. All in all, a very pleasant evening."

  • "Apparently, on rare occasions, if you dine there often enough and they learn your food and wine preferences, they will create a custom menu with wine pairings to surprise their guests. It was incredible. Tom and Paola teamed up to create my most memorable dining experience to date, and an overly indulgently delicious one at that. Thank you once again, Fearrington!"

  • "We chose this as a special birthday celebration with friends. We all did the tasting menu...two meat and two vegetarian. All was delicious and artfully prepared. The service was excellent. Drinks well done. I had the vegetarian tasting menu and the only less than favorable things I might say about it was that after awhile it seemed like there was a repetition of flavors and perhaps too much fussiness in the preparation without a sense of a core ingredient. Desserts were amazing."

  • "Exactly what I would expect from a R&C property. The food and service were impeccable and the atmosphere is country quiet. The only bad thing I can really say it that the expericence is so good, it will ruin your dining experiences everywhere else. The only 2 meals in my life that MAY have been better - The French Laundry and Ernas Elderberry House."

  • "Extraordinary experience all the way around - food, service, and ambience. Extraordinary without being pretentious, they are warm and friendly while still being absolutely amazing."

  • "This was a gastronomical delight; superb service and food with a price to match. However, one slight disappointment: If I'm paying $300 for a dinner for two, I'd expect the chardonnay my wife enjoyed to be served in a chardonnay glass and not in a generic red wine one you’d find at the Macaroni Grille. I'd also expect the server to change the glass, once the matter was brought to his attention, but he did not. My Cabernet was served in its appropriate glass."

  • "Fantastic! Chose the Chefs Tasting Menu to get the best feel for Chef Bedford's culinary style. Everything was absolutely delicious, perfectly presented and expertly prepared. The food was inventive and complex with surprising and wonderful combinations of ingredients. The style and format of the dining experience was similar to and almost on par with The French Laundry, down to the house made box of candy they send you home with, at half the price and without the 3 month wait. The Sommelier offered a wonderful wine suggestion to compliment the meal. The service was very very good, with just a few small things that could be improved to become impeccable to match the level of the cuisine."

  • "It is one of the best North Carolina restaurants I have ever experienced. It was better than Herons at the Umstead Hotel and Spa."

  • "The environment and wine steward (asst. sommelier?) were faultless. The wait staff were a mixed bag, with our waiter being fine, but the young fellow who delivered our dishes was a mumbling ball of uncertainty: a shame since we relied on him to remind us what we were about to eat. The food, too, was a mixed bag. Some plates were practically licked clean (ok, not really, my would have been quite cross with me) and two were practically untouched: the sweet, scallop foam soup was objectively unpleasant. The cheese plate was bizarre with a huge sheet of Madeira jelly draped over an unidentifiable sphere and at the base was a round of HickoryFarms cheese. The missteps might be more easily forgiven of a $200 dinner, but a $450 tab raises the bar."

  • "No attention left untouched. Definitely a return. My husband and I have visited many relays chateau around the world, this is truly a gem in North Carolina for many to notice. Thank you for a wonderful and memorable evening. Without a special day, you made it our special day. Drs. Carlos and Eneida Valdes-Lora"

  • "My girlfriend and I celebrated our one year anniversary here at the Fearrington House Restaurant and it was all we wanted it to be and more. Obviously, it's expensive, but we were surprised how much food we actually were able to eat. The presentation of each course was phenomenal and our waiter Derek was so knowledgeable. We asked him a bunch of questions because we just wanted to know how things were prepared and he knew everything. I'm so glad we came here. Definitely a bucket list experience for mid-level income earners to say they ate at the nicest restaurant in the state of North Carolina. Pretty cool and it did not disappoint!"

  • "Our dinner at the Fearrington House Restaurant well exceeded my expectations and was well worth the price tag. From the moment we walked in the staff catered to our every want and need. They started us out with canapés, and then the courses began. You can choose from 3 or 4 courses or the chef's tasting menu. We did 4 courses and it was the perfect amount of food. After the first two courses they brought an amuse a bouche and then prior to dessert a pre-dessert. All said and done, although we had the 4 course dinner we ended up eating 8 different "courses". Every bite of food they brought was amazing. Is no surprise this restaurant has received the 5 diamond award. Between the food and the service, this could not be beaten!"

  • "The food is beautifully prepared and presented. The staff kind, funny and efficient. The best wine selection and wine knowledgeable staff any where. A wonderful evening."

  • "Fearrington continues to excel in every way. The staff is knowledgable, unhurried and friendly (without trying to be your best friend), the updated decor is understatedly elegant, but the food is the true star. Chef Colin Bedford is a genius, combining complex flavors in proportions that enhance each ingredient on the plate. The artful presentation of every course showcases his artistic eye and would be a treat in itself, but the unexpected, well-mastered elements of each course surpass the looks and make you wish you could find another reason to come back soon. Fearrington isn't for an every-day event, but if you are looking for a perfect way to celebrate, it is the place to come."

  • "Fearrington House is unmatched in the Triangle, if not the state of North Carolina. Complex flavors marry perfectly, plates presented beautifully, with impeccable service and the best sommelier around. One cannot have anything but an extraordinary meal at this gem."

  • "Dining at Fearrington House Restaurant is nothing less an experience. The chef does amazing things with food - incredible taste and an actual work of art on the plate. The wine executive was incredibly knowledgeable not only in introducing my party to new and delicious wines that paired perfectly with our food but also teaching us about the wineries. No detail is overlooked."

  • "Fearrington House was an amazing restaurant with incredible food but even more an amazing staff. My parents live in NC and I wanted to treat them to a fine dining experience however I had my 8 year old daughter with me and didn't have a babysitting option. From the amuse bouche to the dessert, the staff made my daughter feel like a princess catering to her every whim, from a "special" grill cheese, to the steak dish served with nothing touching, to a repeat of the grill cheese with bordelaise sauce, at each stage her meal was more of a delight. It turned her on to new foods and has actually started her on a foodie path. When she tripped leaving the restaurant, the were so accommodating, even driving us to our car in a golf cart. AMAZING."

  • "Beautiful location, amazing food, very good service. Excellent! We had the 4 course menu and both courses and pre-course dishes were stunning!! We are certainly coming back! This is the first real fine dining place we found around RTP."

  • "We love to splurge on Fearrington House. The food and wine advice are superb. The only reasons I gave it four stars for ambience were (a) they wanted to seat us in a room furthest from the activity hub away from the fire and with four tables, one of which was taken, which would have significantly reduced the chance of a private conversation and (b) so many male patrons were in jeans and collarless shirts. When asked, the maitre d' was quite happy to seat us in the main dining room overlooking the fire on a cold night and what, after all, could FH do about guests whose special-dinner attire was so much more casual than ours? But, everyone behaved, and we had a terrific time and will go back for special occasions often. Not to be missed."

  • "Fearrington House lived up to its usual brilliance. The flavors were so divine that we frequently had to stop talking to fully savor them. Even then the conversation paused for many ohhs, ahhs and umms. My friend and I are still thinking about this meal days later - a rare occurrence for people who eat at wonderful restaurants all the time. Fearrington House is in a category by itself!"

  • "My husband and I dined here for the first time on Valentine's Day. The staff was knowledgable in every aspect of the menu, and gave wonderful suggestions. The food was OUT OF THIS WORLD! If you are adventurous, and like to taste different things such as rabbit, this is your place! They also offer more traditional foods, however prepared in a unique way. The meal was perfection, and we could not have been happier with our choice. You will pay more to dine here, but if you want to wowed, please try this place! We will definitely be back! Upon leaving, we were given a red rose, homemade strawberry preserves, 6 handcrafted sweets, and and extra box of chocolates (for our little one on the way) from their Chocolatier! This is a must try!"

  • "Perfect evening. Excellent food, superb attentiveness.quiet romantic tables. Had pairings course -5 courses and a few lagniappe along the way Each bite was better than last. It was like having winners of top chef each cook a course for you. If had to make any recommendations it would be to the sommelier. They had 1500 bottles of wine so would have appreciated if she approached us as to what we liked and flavor we where trying to achieve vs. letting us know how knowledgeable she was. As it was,one of our favorite wine was on list, Shafer Relentless, so we had perfect wine with perfect dinner."

  • "Expensive is relative when you are consuming a work of art that also tastes good. Portions were just right. Sauces were nicely presented. Amuse-bouches were a nice touch. Venison and lobster main courses perfect. Convenient they had half bottles of some really fine wines, eg Krug Champagne. Flower order arrived in perfect shape. Menu cover for our anniversary announcement a nice touch. Our waitperson and sommelier very well versed."

  • "Had not been back fro 25 years and FH was as great as I remember. Celebrated a 25th birthday and everything was perfect.... the welcome cocktail, the personalized menu, and take home after dinner treats. We had the seven course tasting menu. About 14 courses later, we left with full bellies and lots of photos of the beautiful presentation. A wonderful evening."

  • "What a wonderful experience... the food is wonderful, the service is outstanding and the atmosphere is uber charming. From the moment you enter the door Joris greets you with a smile and you feel at home. The table service is well synchronized and polished with a homey flare. Lisa was our server and was very proficient on the menu and a very warm and lovely woman. Everyone made us feel so special. The food was outstanding... every plate was beautiful, both to look at and to the taste. Cudos to Fearrington!! Chef Colin does it again!!"

  • "Well, I have to say my hubby and I come here about 6 times a year and absolutely LOVE LOVE it! This time we were here for my Birthday and as always, the experience was quite fabulous! My husband and I are are foodies and have NEVER been disappointed in the 8 years we have been visiting! We had a new server, Derrick and he was attentive and delightful! So nice to see some new faces (but we LOVE LOVE the old faces, too, BTW!). This time we got there early enough to sit at the bar and have a great cocktail and conversation with the bartender. It was VERY relaxing and informative. The food, pacing, and amuse-bouche, etc. were all top notch as expected. You rock, Fearrington! Please keep you those super high standards and the awesome work!"

  • "Food at Fearrington is far more than nourishment. It is creative, unique, beautiful and delicious. Even the selection I least liked was redeemed by its presentation. The servers are friendly and very well trained, just enough conversation with no intrusion. The wine list is huge but made easy after talking to the wine steward. This is a place where you want to bring your best behavior, leave your watch at home and work through the expense in your head before you go. After all that, you may want to recall a Kurt Vonnagut quote: " If this is not nice, I don't know what is.""
