A word from Favela Cubana
Favela Cubana is a place where food, music and culture convey. The food is inspired by both Brazilian and Cuban cuisines, with the rich flavors and spices of Latin America. It is not a fusion of both cuisines but rather separate cuisines side-by-side on the same menu.

Diner Reviews
  • "I made a reservation for 16 people on a Saturday night for 9pm. Eleven of us showed up at the restaurant at 8:30 and we were seated right away. The server was very attentive and took our orders right away. The decor was really cute with the drums servicing as bar stools. We ordered the shrimp ceviche, chicken empanadas, spinach and cheese empanadas, all were incredibly delish. For entree, a couple of us has the ropa vieja, it was good but I've had better. A little bit dissapointed that they didn't have churrasco. But all in all, a spot I would go back to. "

  • "Favela Cubana is a gem. My girlfriend and I used to to be regulars a few years ago. I went back recently and fell in love with the place all over again. The food, ambiance and service are all great. During the ambiance is even more magical with the outdoor sitting on the treelined/garden lined street. Really a great spot!"

  • "The staff was very attentive and the food was excellent. Our only complaint was that we felt rushed. Especially when while putting on our coats the busboy was in between us cleaning the table. The place was not full, there were plenty of empty tables and there was no waitng line. If they slow the cleaning process and wait for people to at least get to the door, it would be more appropriate to their customers."

  • "I came here for brunch on recommendation from a friend my husband who is half cuban. I've been meaning to try this place and was excited to see they had brunch. The restaurant is a cute little spot in the west village. Has a nice patio that is probably great in spring/summer. I had the cuban eggs benedict. Its was good, and the flavors were great, but it was a touch on the greasy side for me. I also had a great americano. There is a full bar and they do have a brunch special with drinks. I would like to go back again and try it for lunch/dinner."

  • "The restaurant is a cozy spot to grab the bottomless brunch deal, the drinks were very good and the food was absolutely delicious, the mix of both Cuban and Brazilian fare provided a varied selection so that almost anyone can find something to enjoy. The desert was also delicious."

  • "I went to Favela Cubana for lunch and it was a great meal with attentive service. I ordered the lechon, and my friend ordered the cuban sandwich. Both were delicious and I would certainly eat there again."

  • "I had read many reviews regarding the all you can drink brunch affair, and it seemed positive. There are so many AYCD brunches in NYC that one doesn't have to go far to find one. This place is actually 20 mn walk from my house, and I wouldn't go there again even if you drove me. Food is standard Cuban which can be found anywhere in NYC. Chef wasn't the problem, rather it was the service. We were a party of 8 celebrating two birthdays. Place was practically empty, but more than once, I had get up from my seat and go to the bar for drink refills. Unlike other places w/time limits on brunch, this place starts the clock when they take your order, rather than when you get the drink. Go to Cafe Cortadito for great Cuban food and a warm welcome!"

  • "Wife and I spent a lovely Valentine's evening at Favela Cubana. This was the second time we have eaten there, and both meals have been excellent. The pork dishes are great and so are the assortment of appetizers. A nice selection of wines to pair with the meal. Would definitely return and recommend to others."

  • "Chefs don't know how to cook eggs, 3 of us had overcooked eggs so we sent them back. Again, they came out overcooked, finally a 3rd time worked for the chefs. Unfortunately, since we were a group of 6, we had to pay a mandatory 20% tip, which was def not deserved. The waitress was rude and she did not deserve that much. I will never come back here again."

  • "I had some guests in from out of town this weekend. They requested Cuban cuisine. After consulting with some friends, I decided on Favela Cubana. They easily accommodated our group of 8. We ordered multiple pitchers of sangria, mojito and margarita. They were all delicious. The food was great too. Highly recommended. We hope to return again soon."

  • "we had a big group and everyone was happy with their food and the service. the wine selection isn't great but the menu offers enough choice and is reasonably priced for groups. I don't understand the reviews on poor service because the staff serving us was attentive and nice. We had a lot of fun and the music was great for the ambience."

  • "We actually went To the restaurant for a party. We did reservations because the food is pretty good. Turns out, the food was cold, we wait like 25 minutes for the waitress to take our order, the didn't gave us the drinks we order and the manager was kind of rude. The people sitting next to us had an horrible argument with the same waitress and the restaurant was not even full. Big disappointment!!!"
