We will not be taking reservations. All completed parties will be seated on a First Come, First Serve basis.

COME EARLY TO GET THE BEST SEATS!!!!!

Favela Cubana is a place where food, music and culture convey. The food is inspired by both Brazilian and Cuban cuisines, with the rich flavors and spices of Latin America. It is not a fusion of both cuisines but rather separate cuisines side-by-side on the same menu.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Service was great and food fine. The host should just explain clearer that during the World Cup each one needs to spend 20 usd. Originally I thought it wad in addition to the meal, which would be really absurd. Anyway, this is a nice place and service inside was one of the best things."

  • "I wasn't exactly blown away by this place. Service was rather slow. Meal OK. Silverware dirty."

  • "Staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly. They provided great service and the food is good. We loved that the place turns into a a dance party with a DJ on Thursday nights!"

  • "We and a lovely lunch in Favela Cubana's outdoor patio one recent sunny afternoon. The food was very good and the margaritas with fresh guava were delicious. The wait staff was super friendly and appropriately attentive, too."

  • "From the huge screen over the bar showing old black-and-white Cuban musicals to the large congas used as seats at the bar, the place will transport you right out of NYC to the Caribbean. The service was very fast, and they got my complicated order right (some things to eat there, and some to take away). Both kinds of plantains were great (sweet and not), and the caipirinha was not watered down and just sweet/tangy enough to match the food. My favorite was the fresh ceviche, although we got a lot of the appetizers to go, and all came with great sauces. I was there in the early Spring, so only one person was sitting outside on the porch - would definitely go back and order take-out from them again."

  • "I made a reservation for 16 people on a Saturday night for 9pm. Eleven of us showed up at the restaurant at 8:30 and we were seated right away. The server was very attentive and took our orders right away. The decor was really cute with the drums servicing as bar stools. We ordered the shrimp ceviche, chicken empanadas, spinach and cheese empanadas, all were incredibly delish. For entree, a couple of us has the ropa vieja, it was good but I've had better. A little bit dissapointed that they didn't have churrasco. But all in all, a spot I would go back to. "

  • "Favela Cubana is a gem. My girlfriend and I used to to be regulars a few years ago. I went back recently and fell in love with the place all over again. The food, ambiance and service are all great. During the ambiance is even more magical with the outdoor sitting on the treelined/garden lined street. Really a great spot!"

  • "The staff was very attentive and the food was excellent. Our only complaint was that we felt rushed. Especially when while putting on our coats the busboy was in between us cleaning the table. The place was not full, there were plenty of empty tables and there was no waitng line. If they slow the cleaning process and wait for people to at least get to the door, it would be more appropriate to their customers."

  • "I came here for brunch on recommendation from a friend my husband who is half cuban. I've been meaning to try this place and was excited to see they had brunch. The restaurant is a cute little spot in the west village. Has a nice patio that is probably great in spring/summer. I had the cuban eggs benedict. Its was good, and the flavors were great, but it was a touch on the greasy side for me. I also had a great americano. There is a full bar and they do have a brunch special with drinks. I would like to go back again and try it for lunch/dinner."

  • "The restaurant is a cozy spot to grab the bottomless brunch deal, the drinks were very good and the food was absolutely delicious, the mix of both Cuban and Brazilian fare provided a varied selection so that almost anyone can find something to enjoy. The desert was also delicious."

  • "I had read many reviews regarding the all you can drink brunch affair, and it seemed positive. There are so many AYCD brunches in NYC that one doesn't have to go far to find one. This place is actually 20 mn walk from my house, and I wouldn't go there again even if you drove me. Food is standard Cuban which can be found anywhere in NYC. Chef wasn't the problem, rather it was the service. We were a party of 8 celebrating two birthdays. Place was practically empty, but more than once, I had get up from my seat and go to the bar for drink refills. Unlike other places w/time limits on brunch, this place starts the clock when they take your order, rather than when you get the drink. Go to Cafe Cortadito for great Cuban food and a warm welcome!"

  • "Wife and I spent a lovely Valentine's evening at Favela Cubana. This was the second time we have eaten there, and both meals have been excellent. The pork dishes are great and so are the assortment of appetizers. A nice selection of wines to pair with the meal. Would definitely return and recommend to others."

  • "Chefs don't know how to cook eggs, 3 of us had overcooked eggs so we sent them back. Again, they came out overcooked, finally a 3rd time worked for the chefs. Unfortunately, since we were a group of 6, we had to pay a mandatory 20% tip, which was def not deserved. The waitress was rude and she did not deserve that much. I will never come back here again."

  • "I had some guests in from out of town this weekend. They requested Cuban cuisine. After consulting with some friends, I decided on Favela Cubana. They easily accommodated our group of 8. We ordered multiple pitchers of sangria, mojito and margarita. They were all delicious. The food was great too. Highly recommended. We hope to return again soon."

  • "we had a big group and everyone was happy with their food and the service. the wine selection isn't great but the menu offers enough choice and is reasonably priced for groups. I don't understand the reviews on poor service because the staff serving us was attentive and nice. We had a lot of fun and the music was great for the ambience."

  • "We actually went To the restaurant for a party. We did reservations because the food is pretty good. Turns out, the food was cold, we wait like 25 minutes for the waitress to take our order, the didn't gave us the drinks we order and the manager was kind of rude. The people sitting next to us had an horrible argument with the same waitress and the restaurant was not even full. Big disappointment!!!"

  • "Hi my name is Lionel Edwards, Im not the one to ever complain but my situation I have to vent. I made reservations for Saturday September 28th for 1130 (which was an option on the website). I recieved a phone from a lady that works there around 745pm stating we should get there by 11pm because the kitchen closes at 1130pm. I mentioned i made reservations at 1130 and i would be there by 1115ish because i was at a play. She said with a nasty attitude OK but your going to be rushed? Im like ok way to have a first impression on a customer. She basically steered me to another location, I was very excited to eat there but im going to inform people not eat there because of their nasty attitude!"

  • "Favela Cubana and OpenTable saved my job! Friday night I went onto OpenTable looking for a place in Greenwich Village that would seat 10 people. I saw Favela Cubano and was intrigued, because it is Cuban/Brazilian, which sounded yummalicious. A peek at the menu showed that they had a happy hour till 7, with $6 mojitos, margaritas, and Caiparhinas. WIN WIN! I booked right away, after reading the glowing reviews, and called the restaurant to make sure they could really take 13, they were incredibly gracious and said, "sure, come on in!". Charming, vibrant, bongo stools at the bar, lively, great music... OH, and the food is just perfect. Everyone enjoyed everything. Thanks Favela Cubano (and Open Table), I will definitely be back!!!"

  • "Destination spot? Not for me. Still, really nice service, good bartending skills/pours, some really phenomenal menu items (Lechon), some decent though wouldn't repeat (Fejioada), nice desserts, nice apps, and just nice and pleasant. Ample outdoor seating, and nice open air for indoor dining during nice weather."

  • "Not sure if we chose the wrong items on the menu, but both my friend and I were disappointed with our choices. The soup was very average and not special, the entrée was not appealing either. Only the beer was worth it. We went somewhere else for the dessert. The only good thing is that we had a table outside, which was great because it was very loud inside."

  • "This was our first celebration event (anniversary dinner before a show). Even on a slow night, Mojitos were fine & summer menu was tasty. The salads were crisp, service courteous. Romantic start to good night! (More non- pork & beef choices would help.)"

  • "I found this place early next year and have recommended it to a few people and have had great experiences everytime. I went there on Friday, as family was in town. We ordered drinks before 7 and they tried to charge is full price even though happy hou ends at 7. We did plead out case and the waitress changed her mind. This was the only hiccup. I will continue to come here. The rotisserie chicken with passion fruit glaze is awesome!"

  • "First experience with Cuban cuisine and an overall good experience. We were a company of 4 people where we went there to have a different dinner than usual. So for my point of view the place is very nice, recommended for the summer time also since the restaurant provides space for those that want to sit outside. The menu is very good with a variety of flavors to taste. We had the Ensalada de Palmito, the famous Guacamole and the Maduros. For main dishes we had the Bistec De Rib eye, Ropa Vieja and the Lechon. The meat in all of the dishes was very soft and well cooked and the combination with the sides that were served was excellent and unique. The drinks were also good just remember to ask about spicy or not, even to drinks too. Enjoy!!!"
