My girl got the special, Grouper filet surrounded by shrimp and clams. Very good as well. Service was great. A bit pricey. I think we dropped 2 bills (including tip) and only ordered 1 alcoholic drink. We got the two most expensive entrees and the most expensive app though, 1 appy (lobster mac and cheese), 1 Salad, 2 entrees, 1 desert, 2 ginger ales and 1 fancy pants alcoholic drink. Perfect if you can afford it or a special occasion. Wine prices are very diner friendly with much less markup than most restaurants and a great selection. Our main issue is that if you are a regular customer the menu has not changed very much over the last several years. The oysters were small and slightly gritty and the sauce was a little bland, but they were cooked to perfection. The salads were excellent. And the entrees were top notch. The tenderloin was delicious. We liked some, but not all of the desserts. We would recommend the chocolate mousse. Our waiter was fantastic and switched out a dessert that one member of our party didn't like. Make sure you request a table near the window. The small menu offers an excellent selection of seafood, beef and more.

There were friendly smiles when we entered, our waiter was personable and efficient and the food selections were tasty and innovative. The wine list was especially good, lots of wines like Verdicchio, that you don't find on most restaurant's wine lists and moderately priced. It was our anniversary and they printed a menu for us with the date and our names signed by all the associates there. It's also in a lovely setting in downtown Williamsburg near the college. Great area for walking and the Fat Canary fits in quite well. The reviews were very positive so we decided to try it. I travel a great deal and typically spend two or three nights in New York City every week. Within the past year I have eaten at many of the best places there including Per Se, Jean Georges, Daniel and many, many others. I am delighted to say that the Fat Canary ranks right up their with them for food. Ambiance and service is more relaxed, but certainly good. It was pricy, but I expected it to be. I picked The Fat Canary for the food and atmosphere not the bill. The two appetizers we shared were outstanding, and the special of the day (rockfish) and the dessert were very good. The wine was outstanding. The waiter was prompt, polite and informative without being pushy.
Our only comment is that the seating (both on the chairs and on the banquette) is not all that comfortable, and that the tables are very close to each other. The service was perfect, attentive without being bothersome and they knew the menu very well to include food allergies. The ambiance of the place was great, not loud enough so you cant hear the person you are talking to but not so dim it puts you to sleep, just a lively atmosphere. The food was phenomenal, with a focus on fresh, local, and unique ingredients. The drink menu and wine list are extensive with many different selections.
