Diner Reviews
  • "This was our first time to visit, we were a group of 5 adults. The ambiance/décor was very nice and open, with a large bar and patio as well. This is a Farm to Table type restaurant...so we actually expected unique baked bread....no bread or any such at all! We ordered Chili and Summer Vegetable Soup, while the soup was good but not spectacular, others found the chili not good. Farm salad was ok, but a bit wilted with the dressing. We ordered chicken breast, which was good, rock fish, which I thought was very good, others found it adequate. Desserts were good. Service was spotty, even though the place was not super crowded."

  • "We followed Chef Galen Sampson to Farmstead Grill from Dogwood and were not disappointed. The food was delicious and imaginatively prepared and presented! The service was most pleasant but rather slow. The space is really wonderful - clean lines, fresh, white, spacious, bright. The traffic along Fleet Street getting there was horrendous, so allow extra time if you are driving east to this restaurant."

  • "This place is so pretty inside. The menu is small but contains everything needed. The food was very good but we waiting quite a good length of time waiting for it. Especially considering the restaurant was near empty. Rent can't be cheap so they need to find a way to bring more diners in ASAP. I will go back tho!"

  • "had a great time with a really nice wait staff. We enjoyed our birthday brunch with many options. The birthday boy was happy so it made the day."

  • "Farmstead Grill may seem as a perk as it is a new restaurant in the midst of others. However, the service was absolutely horrific. Our waiter took our order, left us pondering for 40 minutes while we waited for our food, finally came back and apologized for the food taking forever. We asked for refills but didn't even receive those after scarfing down our meals because "the bar was backed up." I should have spoken with the manager regarding the food being lukewarm and the poor service but figured it wasn't worth it as I never plan to come back to this place. Thanks but no thanks."

  • "I am not normally a harsh critic, but the Farmstead pretty much did everything wrong when I was there. They need to remove tables inside. Simply too close, which lead to problems. Service was horrid at all levels - hostesses, waitress, and bar all made major and easily avoidable problems. Who serves a bottled beer with the cap on? Having to ask for menus. Appetizers and sharing food arriving at the same point. This is just a few items that were done wrong. Food was fair to good if you could overlook the service. Watch out for Dusty's sauce, which is string enough to strip paint off the Constellation. A little goes a long way. We saw other people get up and leave. We did not. On the plus side, there is plenty of parking."

  • "Selection was. Limited. The carrot soup did not have the curry oil it was supposed to have because they had run out. This did not stop them from serving the soup which was very bland. The main dish of scallops was very good but the desserts left a lot to be desired. If you decide to go and see for yourself, ask for Jackie for a server. She is first rate. The place hasn't beenbthere long. So we may try again in a month or so in case It's just matter of growing pains."

  • "Last Friday my partner and I were out in Canton for a work happy hour. When we realized the time was after 730 we decided to browse through Open Table to see if we could get in somewhere. We came across the Farmstead Grill and decided to give it a try with another couple. At the restaurant we were quickly seated and greeted by our server. He was fantastic. Friendly, informative, and lacking the typical Baltimore-localvore-food snob-trust fund baby-hipster server thing we tend to find in our neighborhood (Hampden). We really enjoy the appetizers and mango butter. My main course was awesome...our friend's brisket was great. The cocktail list was a little meh...have them make you what you want. Dessert was simple and delicious."

  • "Loved the food and the variety. Will be bring friends back and I thought it was a better experience than the Waterfront Restaurant in Fells Point even though I believe they are owned by the same people"

  • "Like many of the new farm to table options opening in Canton, Farmstead brings new fresh menus to an area of town really needing it. The menu is inventive and fun. It is also more reasonable than many of its competitors. The place just opened, and their are definitely some early kinks. The menu has a few duds. The radish starter was a razor thin radish slice on a piece of unremarkable toast. The brisket main was a little too much like a satisfactory steak with BBQ sauce slathered on it. The food was almost an hour before mains arrived, and the wait staff really didn't do much about it other than apologize once during that time. We'll definitely go back but working out the kinks will make or break this new Canton find."

  • "Farmstead Grill, new on the scene, has put it all together. Innovative menu, food prepared exceptionally well and a great variety. A wonderful addition to a vibrant Baltimore."

  • "The food was good- menu looked amazing. The atmosphere was a little off- in a strip mall in canton. The restaurant had only been open for 3 weeks, so I think they are still working out the kinks."

  • "New restaurant under good management it seems. Food leaves much room for improvement. Hopefully they will work things out. Will try again in the future."

  • "Was excited to visit and was not disappointed! True "farm-to-table" dishes with an elegant flair. Stand outs were the Mac n Blue and Roasted Beets small plates and the huge Liberty Delight burger. But nothing was sub par. We went during lunch and so it was fairly quiet but I would be concerned that beautiful, open-air design could get load with a full house on a weekend night. So be sure to bring a lot of friends and make it party! Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Great dinner, but they were out of many items (vanilla ice cream, two beers on tap)"

  • "Having been long-time fans of Dogwood we were excited to try this new venture. The grilled oysters with cold-smoked crab meat were sensational. I'll probably pop in for those anytime I'm in the area. That said, the rest of our meal was fine, just not good enough to make this a destination. And that's a shame. It's such a beautiful, light-filled space that I wanted the food to be stellar so I would be tempted to drive down there frequently. The grilled trout was okay but the trout was room temperature, the dressing was too sweet, and the squash didn't have any grill marks and didn't look like it had been cooked. The fried chicken was very good with a delicious take on Caesar dressing but something was off with the breading on the chicken."

  • "It's only been open a week and a half but the food was delicious, the service pleasant and the atmosphere delightful. There are some things to be smoothed out but overall this was a great experience. They do need an espresso machine though ;)"

  • "My husband and I ate here on Saturday night-6:45. The restaurant is very large- cavernous is really how I would describe it, with lots of little tables sitting right next to each other and some booths available. Although there was only one other couple sitting at a table, our hostess tried to sit us next to them until I asked if we could just eat outside since it was a beautiful evening. The hostess readily agreed and we chose a table outside- there was a good group out there and several table still available. t! I would go back, but only if we got to sit outside; I am skeptical about the big open space and until they have enough customers to fill it, it feels kind of strange in there to me."

  • "My husband and I were so excited to try farmstead grill last Saturday evening. We ordered the farmhouse salad, the liberty farms cheeseburger, and the rockfish. We shared all three items. We ordered the cheeseburger medium. and when it came it was extremely well done and dry. Since we split it in half, I had my half on my plate. I showed the waitress the burger and she told me that I should have spoken up sooner and she would have replaced it. I guess because we cut it in half she thought I ate half of it? When we were paying the bill she even said, "honey, next time speak up so I can help you," and I responded, "I thought I did," and she walked away. The rockfish was tasty, but she didn't do anything to turn our experience around."

  • "They just opened and there some kinks to be worked out. The servers are excellent, but the food was so-so. I ordered a special and the chicken was way under cooked, the housemade specialty cocktails, of which we ordered 4, weren't mixed well and were bitter or tart when they shouldn't have been per the menu. The food was pretty in presentation, but lacking in flavor. Hopefully adjustments will be made in the upcoming months."

  • "Interior is lovely. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive and friendly. Plenty of staff on hand and all were kind. Pinot crush cocktail was very nice. Wine pours seemed small but that might just be wishful thinking on my part. Kale salad was truly delightful. Chicken wings were good. Petit filet came out slightly overcooked and under-salted. 8-grain Risotto was nice but a little bland (poached egg on top was slightly over but not bad). Chocolate pot du creme was lovely, chocolate cake with salted caramel ice cream was great. Prices make perfect sense for Harbor East - might be a tad high for this location, but all in all a solid experience. A little more attention to food seasoning and this could easily become a neighborhood favorite."

  • "The menu looked creative and I had high hopes. I was disappointed by the execution. I had the rockfish, which was good, but the quinoa base was bland. My husband ordered the "risotto" which was a tasteless bowl of steamed vegetables and multigrain rice. The menu is small, which i like, but that means the expectation of a small menu is that everything is excellent. Several things we wanted to try were not available. Service was slow. I understand its brand new and hopefully they can work out the kinks."

  • "Our dinner at Farmstead Grill exceeded all expectations. From the moment we walked through the door the staff was friendly and welcoming. The food was exceptionally good, from the salad greens that tasted like they were just picked from the garden, all the way through the key lime pie which was the best I have ever tasted. The curried summer vegetables were seasoned just right, and the rockfish couldn't have been more perfectly prepared. We tried an intriguing side dish of macaroni with blue cheese, bacon and something else, and wanted to lick the plate before they took it away. All in all, this was an outstanding dining experience and we will definitely be going back."

  • "We went literally the first weekend that Farmstead opened, so there were a few kinks, and service was very slow. We also were served the food for the table next to us, but had that fixed quickly. The food was delicious. The mac and bleu cheese was definitely a favorite. I had the short-rib, which was tender and had the perfect amount of spice. My fiance's steak was good, but just a tiny bit dry. The lamb appetizer was also very good. I love the ambiance and the decor, very open and light. We will definitely be trying this new restaurant out again!"

  • "there was nothing especially notable about the food, except they like their pickling. it was really what you would expect at a restaurant in the middle of a shopping center. boo. moderately priced, attractive, and attentive, but this place is no Dogwood. sorry."

  • "We had a great meal at Farmstead Grill as well as good service. I felt that the price was a little much for the portions but the food was very good. We will be going back and would recommend it to our friends!"

  • "Dined during lunch on the first Friday opened. The food was amazing! Service was slow but I think it was just our server as other tables were receiving food and drinks before us with no issue. Lunch took longer than I expected. Pretty sure it was just due to being new...I have every expectation that it will improve. Look forward to going again!"
