We had the salmon with creme freche appetizer, arugula with strawberries salad and the special short ribs for an entree. Each dish was spaced perfectly, and service was terrific. Wish we could have had dessert, but the other plates were so satisfying, we just couldn't.
Can't wait to return...love the food, service, and overall atmosphere of the restaurant. We also shared a grilled artichoke (5 stars) and it was outstanding. We also ordered the short ribs (4 stars). The house red wine (5 stars) paired perfectly with the ribs.

I really enjoy this place. You can always count of the food quality and innovative menu. The outdoor bar area is a great place to have a great drink while waiting. The chicken under a brick delighted my wife. This was a lovely place to celebrate her birthday. The outdoor patio, where we enjoyed dessert, is a gem. There are century old trees hanging over the patio. This is a simple and a special place. I don't know if the late reservation effected our service, but our waiter seemed like he did not want to be bothered by us. He took our drink order, but drinks arrived about 15 minutes later. He did not go over specials, nor did he explain anything on the menu. I asked him what he recommended, and he told me the ribs, which were great, but way too heavy for an 8:30 PM dinner. I wish we had arrived earlier so we could have tasted the olive oils. The outside scene was inviting and outside bar looked very comfortable. We had our two kids, 8 & 10, and the staff was very friendly to them providing lots of Wiki sticks for their entertainment. The kids also liked the decor, notably the huge Bison/Buffalo head mounted on the wall. I like the table arrangements too. We only had the 4 of us at our table but the square tables for 8 seemed perfect. The food was creative and fun and we enjoyed reading the story behind Farmstead. We had their LMR wine in the beaker which was fun. The waitress was very accomodating on allowing us to move to a table where it wasn't too close to the doors, as it was a little chilly outside. All of the food were very fresh. Flavors were clean and seasonal. Beef carpaccio was amazing. Best I've had in a long time. Ribs were very tender. The lemon poundcake and cookies for dessert were the perfect way to end the meal. Our server was attentive but the food seem to take a long time. All the entrees we great, burger, steak, ribs except the arberio rice, it had too much olive oil in it. I would not order the rice. There was a wedding going on near where we were sitting. I thought it was quaint and touching. You could see the wedding and hear some of what was going on. I would go back again. I think this would be a great lunch place. It's on the southern outskirts of downtown St. Helena, next to a winery and a small farm. Food was very good, though the roasted artichoke was a bit too burned and dried out. (Wood fires too much all the rage these days!) The desserts, a very fresh and fragrant strawberry sorbet, and a luscious olive oil cake with vanilla gelato were to die for! The only complaint would be with the steaks. They were very chewy and hard to deal with, even Medium rare. There is much better grass fed beef out there, however everything else we had, and the seasoning on the steaks was great.
I would definitely reccomend this place, but not if your looking for a great 'steak place', but more of a

We had to remind our server on 3 separate occasions that we were missing our drink orders. In addition, another server dropped off an appetizer that we didn't order and it took several minutes and the waving of our hands to catch our servers' attention to this. Also, the appetizer that we did order - never came. It's a good thing we each ordered a starter to our main course. The food was outstanding! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal and we didn't let the deficiency in service shadow the quality of the food. The appetzers were good but the mains were outstanding! Several of us had the sole ( myself included) that was an amazing flavour blend. I can't stop thinking about it and am longing to go back!
