Great contemporary barn atmosphere, roomy and interesting. Cobb and vegetable salads were excellent and unusual, but the meatball appetizer was the best. We went back the next day, which says it all. Brick chicken and Pinot Noire can't be beat, and right in the middle of Napa Valley!

Our dining experience was lovely. Most delicious food I've ever had. We loved the $2 corkage fee and the beet salad, meat balls and roasted chicken were the work of a culinary genius. Great outdoor patio and great service. Our waiter wasn't amazing but the rest of the staff that greeted our table took good care of us. It would be hard not to come back to this place every time I visit St. Helena.

We heard about Farmstead through a friend, who raved about the service and the fresh ingredients used in the menu. We couldn't agree more. My wife and I, celebrating our 22nd anniversary, enjoyed the chicken and dumplings, as well as the 'rock-cooked' chicken. The food was fantastic, the server right on top of things. The wine list was extensive and reasonably priced, but we found the bar drinks a disproportionally expensive. All-in-all, we had a wonderful dinner and would recommend Farmstead to anyone.

How lucky were my husband and I that we had reservations for lunch at the Farmstead on Saturday? We sat on the outdoor patio, protected by a canopy, overlooking the freshest looking vegetable garden you ever saw. How could the food not be fresh? We're still talking about the delicious hamburger we shared. How could something so simple be prepared so memorably?? We also shared a yummy cobb salad and the cheddar biscuits. Only wish we had saved room for what sounded like fabulous desserts! This gem won't be undiscovered for long, especially after this month's TEN PAGE article in Food & Wine on the restaurant and garden. Make your reservation NOW!

All four of our meals were quite good and the service from Joy was outstanding. Their corkage charge is a rare treat in the Napa Valley. My only critique is one I have with many restaurants, namely, why do they have to have background music playing all the time? After a while, it just adds to the overall din resulting in the need to talk louder to be heard.

Made a reservation on a Tuesday night, but could have walked in. Sat outside in the early evening, and even with the Napa Valley breeze starting up, it was comfortable. Heatlamps are available. Tried the meatballs as an appetizer and they were amazing. Also had the Wood Roasted Figs - delicious. For dinner it was the cheeseburger and the Brick Chicken. The cheeseburger was what everyone had recommended before we went and it didn't disappoint. The potatoes on the side had wonderful seasoning. The Brick Chicken was the best chicken we've had. Half a chicken, roasted beautifully on cannelini beans and other veggies (carrots, spinach, +). The chicken was incredibly tender and juicy throughout. Our waiter and others were friendly and welcomin

Splended service, relaxed feeling both inside dining room and at the outside seating. The food was excelent; zucchini was loved by all. We ordered three entrees Chicken and Dumplings, Grilled Chicken w/beans, and a Beef Stew. The Grilled Chicken and Beans got the blue ribbon. Chocolate Cream pie was as others have noted lovely. but the Cherry Crisp w/ ice cream was the winner. We also loved the ability to bring our wine. To add a whole grain roll to the bread plate would have been nice, also making the total number larger. It was a lovely day to also enjoy their nursery, garden and spend time rocking on the veranda. The outside fireplace will bring us back to enjoy dinner and an evening at Farmstead.

Farmstead is a fantastic restaurant! The setting, the decor, the service and the food are all incredible. My friend and I wanted to taste as many things on the menu as possible so we ordered several appetizers and a main course. The meatballs were the best I've ever had but everything we tasted was sensational. The Luongo Prato, the special olive oil, is not to be missed and it's served with the most wonderful little rolls with a little salt on top. Sounds simple but it was great. This is a casual spot, very welcoming and friendly. Our waiter was perfect....he paced our meal perfectly especially considering we had many small plates. He timed it so that we were not rushed and not waiting for another incredible dish. Great desserts, too!

    OpenTable Diner Since 2014

The atmosphere of the restaurant is great. The open barn concept creates a lively environment. The adjacent nursery and the outdoor lounge area give customers a space to walk around. The food was a hit and miss. Some of them were excellent but the oven cooked chicken needs some salt and herb to rub before cooking. The service we had was also uneven. At the beginning of the dinner, the server had a good start but the server was disappeared after the appertizer and re-appeared taking the dessert order.

My salad was amazing, but the grass-fed sirloin steak was so tough I thought my steak knife was dull. Instead of offering me a different steak, the server offered to get me a sharper knife!! (not exactly the sympathetic response I was hoping for) My wife had the "brick" chicken, or something like that. It was OK, but the weird mixture of beans, fruit, greens and stuff that accompanied it was really kinda gross. Overall we were quite disappointed. Too bad. We had heard many good reports about this new restaurant... (Tonight we went to "Press" down the street and it was amazing in every way! But it was $290 for the two of us. Yikes!)

We are locals & really enjoy dining out regularly, as there are so many fantastic restaurants to choose from in the Napa Valley. The food here was good & the atmosphere was fun. Although, it is fairly pricy. We'd certainly rather eat elsewhere for the same money & enjoy better food & better service. There are just too many wonderful restaurants this is competing with & we feel they need to step up their game.

I have been here a couple of times now. The location is convenient, parking easy, and the atmosphere is friendly and nice casual. The outdoor bar and seating area next to the fireplace is great, and provides a nice place to meet up before dining. Not so crazy about the tall tables and bar stools outside...uncomfortable if you are 5'4 but its manageable. Inside the restaurant is humming with a pleasant buzz, the servers always friendly and accomodating. Food delish, and I like having some choices of appetizers that can work for a light entree. I love this place, and look forward to my next visit.

This is our second time we have been to this restaurant. Our friends who live near by in walking distance go there quite often. The food was very good every time we went there. We also very much like the fact that there is only a very small corkage fee, $2.00 which is donated I believe to schools. The only wrinkle is the noise, we were six on our table and had difficulties to carry on a conversation.

This place is beautiful...the quintessential Napa area setting. The food was good...not great, as we expected. I had the beet salad, which was excellent, and the chicken with dumplings, which was fine...very little chicken (small amount, and small bits) and the sauce tasted fresh but it was bland. My boyfriend had the chili as an app, which was delicious and the burger, which he thought had too much cheese and but I thought it was very tasty. The service was mediocre. We had to wait a lot and always ask for more water. We would probably return for a cocktail or glass of wine so as to enjoy the setting, but eat dinner somewhere else.

Farmstead is a great combination of comfort, style, and excellent food. The service is impeccable, warm, and helpful. We had a hard time leaving the outdoor patio area- in fact, we were able to sit outside for 20 minutes past our reservation time without a problem. The surrounding gardens, nursery, and chicken coop provide good shopping and entertainment prior to your meal. In addition to fresh, intriguing flavors, each meal is hearty and satisfying. Even the non-wine drinks were delicious (I highly recommend the ginger julep).
